[Q] Screen responsiveness issues - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I searched and couldn't find anything, so here goes.
I'm not sure what exactly to describe it as, but I'm looking to see if anyone else has this issue or has dealt with it. Most of the time when I'm using my TF the screen freaks out. If I sit at the home screen it will click (I turned on screen selection), sometimes it will open up the widget settings like I'm long pressing the screen, if I try and play Words with Friends it has picked up tiles, dropped them, and then scrolled the screen up and down, in the Market it has selected apps then scrolled through the app page all without me touching it. It honestly acts like it's possessed. I'd had rare issues with my Evo with this, if there was static on my hands or something like that, but the TF is doing it like 75% of the time I use the tablet. I'll try to take and include a video, but if anyone knows what I'm talking about or how to fix it, please let me know.
OTA, non-rooted, completely stock. Just bought yesterday, 7/21. Thanks.

100 % hardware issue.Look like this ips display screen quality not stable.
My one only one vertical line. Now already sent to service centre for checking.
Just bought two weeks only already happen.
Your one look terrible because many line at horizontal.
Better go to ask for replacement new set.

Fuze Display Issue

Has anyone else noticed a flickering issue at the bottom of the screen on the AT&T Fuze? After being turned on for a while, my fuze begins flickering at the bottom, then if I slide out the keyboard, it will not completely redraw at the bottom area, leaving the "phone" and "programs" soft buttons stuck there in a ghost like image.
I have already exchanged this fuze twice, making it my third unit with this issue. The build date it 10/07/08.
As of now I'm planning on keeping it for around two weeks then exchanging it again for a unit with a different build date. Hopefully that unit will not have the same issue.
So has anyone else had similar issues?
I've had a similar issue where the onscreen keyboard will not open, in fact the icon for the keyboard disappeared and pressing in its position on the bottom bar caused the icon to flicker. As I was trying to type at the time I just opened the keyboard and finished however I did not experience the redrawing that you mention. What I was able to do was correct the issue but I don't recall how exactly.
Mine just started it today. It's like burn in almost, I can see the "calender" and "contacts" text behind other programs and it fades out. Any ideas?
Thanks
This is now happening to my Fuze as well. I just returned my first one yesterday because the bluetooth could not pair to any headsets. Now the screen flickers. I really want to love this phone, but what's up with this?
Found that if I turned the device off for an hour that cured it and it hasn't returned. Don't know if I could turn it off for shorter than that and it might work ok.
Cool, I'll try that. The issue did seem to get worse as the screen warmed up. When I left the screen off for a while the problem went away.... but then came back again. I will try shutting the whole phone off overnight and see if that helps.
I'm not seeing those issues on mine at all. I've had it about a week now, and the Build Date is 10/20/08.
This happens to my Fuze as well occasionally, usually itll go away when the screen is turned off for a little bit.
I just looked at the build date and mine is 10/07/08 also. Gonna wait a couple weeks to exchange mine too.
I bought mine at Amazon, and it has a build date of 10-20-08. I am having zero display problems with it, if that helps any.
i noticed this thread has been off since december 2008.
i recently bought mine yesterday and have been having this problem this morning.
my guess is that it's a hardware flaw since if i use MyMobiler to show the screen to my PC it's displaying correctly.
has anyone been able to locate where the problem is?
e.g. changing the LCD totally fixed it but not able to claim warranty for this?
and does the build date really matters? or you guys simply mean a flawed batch of products? how do you check the build date?
another of my finding, my leather case is still very tight, so if i use it quite long, it will develop the problem. if i let it out of the case for about an hour or so, it will heal itself.
i know at this point it's okay coz it's self-healing, but it would be better if i can completely solve this problem.
thanks in advance for any comments and suggestion.

Screen fade to bluey black?

I'm a new convert to the Touch Pro from the Universal. So new, in fact, I'm not allowed to have it until Christmas!
However, I took delivery of my HTC (i.e. non-branded) Touch Pro yesterday, and was allowed to charge it up/switch it on to check that it was ok. While playing with it, just the once, the screen kinda faded out and went a dark blue-black colour. Similar to when you see an LCD screen that's had the power taken from it.
It all came back as normal when I switched off and on again.
I'm wondering whether this might just be a software problem, and a new ROM will sort it, whether it's a hardware problem that I'll need to get RMA'd, or whether it's just one of those unlucky one-off problems that you sometimes get. It's not something daft like I did a swipe that turmed on a key lock or something, is it?
I'd say it worked fine after the initial setup procedure for about 10 minutes until I swiped and it went black, and then didn't show a problem for the other 20 minutes I played with it for.
Cheers,
Steve.

LCD Screen Defect or Software/Driver Problem?

Hey guys,
I am going crazy here, searching forums did not help me at all.
The lower section of the screen keeps flicking, and not always, what do i mean by flicking, its like the screen at the lower section keeps doing like a strange low refresh rate, and has an old imprint of some old menus. Happens especially when there is the color of gray.
Made a screenshot of the phone, no problems, there, so its not a software rendering problem, might be a drivers problem though, or a defec tin the screen itself.
Frequency is high but not always, and am unable to determine when does that happen exactly. going crazy here, is this a defect? or all touch pro's have this?
Exact explanation summary:
1CM from the bottom of the LCD sometimes flickers as if that 1CM is having an extremely low refresh rate. Mostly happens when there is light gray, but not necessarily, and a soft reset for the phone does not remove it. It happens on random!
Hey,
Yeah it happens to me too! You don't need to do a soft reset, it actually fades away if you watch it closely! I don't know what it is either, and yes it is random as you have stated! I initially thought it was an application I installed as it only started happening after that, so I did a full hard reset and its still happening! Not sure what or how, but hoping next firmware version stops it!
Cheers,
mpls-te
As it happens, that's exactly why I've logged on here today! Any ideas whta the cause might be?
OK, good to see that others have this, so am not alone here, experts here, any ideas? other touch pro users, can you please leave your statements?
I hope its a driver issue.
But from what i noticed, its like, the screen is OFF, as in blank and no back light, but somehow, the application working on the screen before you turned off the device is somehow printing something on the LCD, something that we don't see, and when we actually start the phone and its back light, that OFF LINE imprint pops on screen. Something like that.
Its completely illogical, but dunno, can't find any sense here and am going crazy
Same thing happened to me and a few others as well.
See my thread here.
What rom is everyone using?
I've noticed a similar issue with mine, except rather than something software it seems like it's the backlight for the bottom 1cm of the screen flickering slightly. I don't see any weird pixels or inappropriate screen information, just a dimming/high speed flickering of the backlight in that same regionas yours. It comes and goes. Sometimes weeks without it, then maybe 3 times in a day for a minute or two at a time. Everything else works fine and whatever screen I go to displays fine.
I'm assuming it's a hardware problem with the LED(s) that light up the bottom portion of the screen, and I'm going to use it as an excuse to get a warranty replacement somewhere near the end of the warranty when the phone's getting a little old and worn.

Lool, evil, lets just hope that this problem DOES occur when you go to their shop for your replacement
Good idea though, might do the same thing except that i have to travel abroad to where i got the phone from to actually get the warranty working. Don't forget to re-enable stock SPL and stock ROM
It happens frequently enough I'll be able to get it on video just in case they need proof, but typically they just exchange by mail.
I just posted in another thread about this issue. I have run into the same thing a few times. The bottom portion of the screen flickers, and when i do things that have a dark gray or black screen I can see a ghost image of the left and right soft keys from my TFL3D home screen. It seems to be most noticeable when the screen brightness is set to max. To get it to go away I usually do a few soft resets, and then, if needed, i will turn off the phone and take the battery out for a while. I have never tried waiting it out to see if it will just go away on its own.

I see that everyone posting in this thread, that has their signature filled in, is using the Energy ROM. I find that very interesting.
i am having the same problems, sometimes touchflo3d will flicker at the bottom, near the edges. I also get text that can be read through other screens. Like on pocketshield i can see the left and right softkey words still at the bottom. its so odd !
P.S im on energyrom
I'm on NATF v2.2, not an energy rom. But then again, mine looks more like a hardware issue, as I've never seen any ghost images of text or softkeys, just flickering.
can somebody post screens?
maybe the same problem here...
hardreset, other roms > problem still there:-(
Same problem here and I am using stock rom!
here are 3 screens of my xda diamond pro, using latest official o2 rom and newest romeOS eng
hope you can see this prob?! same like yours?

Well, i doubt EnergyROM has anything to do with that problem, since my Stock ROMz had same problem, never got fixed with any updates HTC used to release. MAYBE some Cooked ROMs out there have this solved, if any, please let us know And my problem is nothing close to screenshots above :S

Dude, those photos are awful, after seeing them am happy with my phone flickering, its nothing close to this.
You see, in your photos, all three of em, you some kind of shadow effect, where text of a button for example has that same text beneath it 3x6mm, that is not my case at all.
My case is as follows, IF i am on the home screen for example all looks ok, except that the bottom 1CM of the screen is flickering. If i go to another window, either a total black one or any other screen, i would still see a ghost of the old home screen, for example, and only at the bottom 1CM.
Will post photos once i get my cam back. Cheers
similar issue
my issue is kinda similar, instead of getting the bottom 1cm or so discoloration or stuck pixels, I get streaks of red or blue on my screen. I have had this happen on each version of NATF I have tried, but don't remember it happening on the stock version (which I am tempted to try again to see if that's the issue).
Could this be a driver issue?
mind is even worse than all you guys, the touch screnn dose not response, and i have the energy rom on it, before it goes wrong. it just suddenly dose not response, than i send it to HTC, they ask for 425.00 for fix.... I will just send this to Asia and get some one to fix it.
But I hope before i send it out, some one can help me here.... anyway can fix it easy!!!!
Hi all, i have the same problem, here's another topic about it

[Q] TF101 Screen won't turn on

Hi everyone, this is my first post here. Thanks in advance for any help that you folks can provide.
I've had the TF101 for about six months now, and it's been fine. I was using it yesterday on the train and all was good, but when I got home and took it out of my bag it didn't seem to start up. I thought it might have been a battery issue, so I let it charge overnight. Tried starting it up this morning and I got the same results. So I started looking in to other issues.
The tablet is definitely starting, adb will recognize it in its list of devices, and if I plug it in to my tv or desktop monitor w/ HDMI, I can see and interact w/ the Transformer UI (of course this is kind of painful since I have to do some guessing about where to put my fingers).
I had rooted it using rebound821's scripts and directions here, so tried an unroot to see if that was the problem. I ended up with the same results.
Does anyone here have any insights as to what the problem may be? I'm hoping to avoid sending it back to ASUS, so I'm fine w/ opening it up to look for loose cables.
So I thought that brightness might be the problem. Maybe it was set to 0 and I just wasn't seeing anything on my screen. Sadly, that doesn't seem to be the case.
I tried setting brightness at the path below to to 0, 50, 100.
/sys/devices/platform/pwm-backlight/backlight/pwm-backlight/brightness
Still no luck.
Has anyone encountered anything remotely similar to this (even if similar is just a dead screen)?
There have been others with dead screens reporting what you are, at least I have read a few reports, I think they just had to get them RMA'd, I don't recall anyone 'fixing' a dead screen, especially if you still have adb and touch working then the screen itself and backlight seem to have broken completely- some have reported the backlight dying and thinking the screen was broken, but it was just the backlight (I guess in bright light they could see pixels working, but couldn't make out what was on the screen without the backlight). I still think they had to get it repaired either by Asus or by someone who was capable of doing internal repairs with replacement parts..sorry for your luck
Looks like I'll have to send it back. I took it into the brightest light I could find and couldn't see anything at all. Guess it's the screen and maybe the backlight too. I'm pretty disappointed this happened, the only thing I can think of is that the bag I had it in was hanging from the chair in front of me on the train and it was swaying a little, and that shouldn't be enough to dislodge a connection. Either that or just some freak hardware failure. Still, I guess it's not that common of an occurrence. Thanks for the reply, I'll slink off and try to get in touch w/ Asus now.
I have experience same
My TF101 broke in the same way, screen blank. Conected to tv I`ve got image digital touch work. I shut down my TF101 normaly and screen never go back to live again. Tablet was in a protective bag (when I trave by car), just no reason for not working ( no problem at screen, previously, screen perfect - no dead pixels)
Did you guys get this resolved? I had the EXACT same thing happen yesterday. Was working just fine. Put it in its sleeve, into a protective case, into a briefcase, got home and dead.
HDMI works. I tried to call Asus but they say i'm out of warranty.
Thanks in advance.
Must be something wrong with the connections that it decays over time. I've had mine since October last year and its been fine except for today when I brought it home it wouldn't work.
I was able to fix it though. I held it vertically with the bottom edge down and tapped it firmly on my desk a couple of times. The screen came back on. There is a strong possibility that this will happen again and my tap fix won't work, but it's working at the moment

I had exactly the same problem discussed in this thread. I was also able to bring the screen of my TF101G to life by tapping it firmly on my desk with the bottom edge. It works for now. But it is certainly disconcerting to know that some connection in this rather expensive gadget are loose and all this can happen again. I guess I will not carry my transformer around any more - just leave it at home...

Same problem here had my unlocked bootloader tf101 for awhile now, one of the first ones out... had a great life gave it to my girl when i got the transformer prime and the screen just went out yesterday, still goes in apx mode and still recognized by computer, screen just straight up died, think it's too late for a manufacture warranty, maybe ill look but think it's gonna be no dice... sucks obviously something in the design to make this happen to so many of them...
My TF101 appears to have a dead screen. I am rooted and running Revolver Custom Rom. When connected to my pc, I am able to recognize my device. My screen will not turn on so I cannot use recovery to go back to stock. I am set up to use ADB, however, I am not very knowledgable with ADB. I am convinced I have a bad screen and I am still under warranty. Is there a way to return the TF101 back to stock using ADB? If anyone can point me in the right direction, I can probably figure it out. Otherwise, I may just try and replace my screen and see how that works out. Thanks for the help.
My backlight died on Tuesday. Similar situation of working in the morning, headed into work with it in my bag, no brutal knocks or anything but one jolt just must of finished it off after a year and 2 weeks abuse (yes 2 weeks out of warrenty).
Going to attempt to take it apart this afternoon and play with the ribbon cable as reseating it has solved quite a few peoples problems.
Woo! It worked! Very happy chappy.

Same thing happened too me, first time i sent it to service, but last time i opened it myself and pushed the connector for the screen thightly in place.. worked nicely

Screen goes derp
I don't know if I have the same problem or not.
Backstory: I own a Transformer TF101 that I got for my birthday from my girlfriend. It was meant for travel and bs'ing around at home. Took it into work and quickly realized that I could use this for work. That went over so well that the rest of the office became intrigued. Once these came on sale on groupon, the office manager went all in on 10. These are all refurbished transformers with docks.
They have all been handed out and I now have a transformer for home and work. Kind of nice...but I do a lot of site observation so using my personal transformer was a risk that I had to take all on my own (survived a 5' fall off of a parapet wall already).
The problem: From the first 5 minutes that I had the thing, the transformer screen went blank. I opened up google play to download a few apps that I could use for work. Scrolling down I saw some choppyness which I considered the processor/memory having issues loading everything on the screen. Before I knew it - boom blank screen. Rebooted and the loading screen stays on for 2 seconds before the screen goes blank. I can tell it's working because it plays a sound at start up. I can also tell the screen is lit up (it's like it's showing a grey screen because it can't show true black colors). If I hit the power button again it goes completely black. I hit the power button again and the screen flashes to the lock screen and immediately goes blank again. I could do this over and over and over again.
Anybody having the same problem? It's refurbished....I'm guessing apparently I got the dud.
I ran into pretty much the same problem. One morning, the tablet screen would just not turn on. Sometimes, it came on and immediately shutdown, but it is still on the "On" mode. Hit the power button again will bring it to the off mode. Toggle it one more time, sometimes, will turn on the screen a off again. I was able to get it back to work with a factory restore. However, it has the following problems.
1) As soon as I adjust the brightness, the screen will go off again. And there is nothing I can do to bring it back except another factory restore.
2) The screen will flicker (and sometimes produces some clicking sound) when charging with the screen on.
Looks like my TF101 is having same issue, screen gone off suddenly (hdmi shows up in TV fine)...I am going give a try on reseating the cable hoping it resolves the issue.
leonpr, is there some tips/things I have to make sure before attempting this. I found a guide here and another youtube video on this issue as a reference...
Thanks..
Screen won't turn on unless factory reset "fix"
My girlfriend has an ASUS TF101. If the brightness goes up to 60%, the screen is blanked (no backlight either) and the only way to get it to turn back on again is to hard reset. This coincidentally happened at the same time as an update from ASUS. After lots of Googling it does not appear to be related. I was hoping it was and installed several custom ROMS which all experienced the same issue.
As a temporary work around, until I get the guts & the money to be able to replace her tablet if I break it, I found and installed AutomateIt. I set a trigger so that when the screen is turned off, the brightness is set to 50%.
Why trigger when the screen is off instead of when the screen hits above 59%? If you have this same problem, hold the brightness and go all the way until the screen blanks and then still holding your finger on the screen, move it all the way to the left and you will notice that the screen did not come back on. Press the power button once to turn it off and then again to turn it on and you will see the screen at the lowest brightness setting.
So, with the trigger in place, if you accidentally (or one of your rotten kids intentionally:angel raises the brightness above the threshold, simply press the power once to turn off the screen and then press it again to turn the screen on.
Just a note, I ended up installing AutomateIt Pro, Available for $1.60 from the Play Market. The free version works fine, but my girlfriend has been struggling with this issue for a couple of months and after so many hard resets, the little app is more than worth the money.
Have you tried Power + Volume Down for 15 seconds, and then leaving it alone for one minute? It will cold boot. Try that and it may work. Just saying; Hope it will help
Sorry for the necro-bump but here's the actual solution.
Problem: The video cable inside the Transformer comes loose and just needs to be pushed back in.
I can't post a link since I don't have 10 posts yet so just search youtube for the following key words:
blank or no display issue on the asus transformer - fix

Just fixed my blank display problem on a TF101 which is well out of warranty. Here is the link. I found the connector loose after dropping my TF101.
Thanks!
Fix lasted for a few days, now backlight dead, tried all cables again. No joy . I hate intermittent faults so ordered a Samsung Galaxy TabPRO 10.1.

[Q] Screen Issue? (XT926)

I received my XT926 as a refurb and I have been experiencing a strange screen issue.
I will often have my phone on a dock, charging and sometimes I will notice the screen is black like it's off, but the touchscreen is responsive. Hitting the power button does nothing but it makes the sound as if I had locked the phone. Hitting the power button a second time will turn the screen on like normal operation.
Very rarely I have noticed the screen will turn off while I'm actually using the phone and it's a weird effect. The easiest way to describe it is that it looks like entire lines disappearing randomly over a period of 1-2 seconds, going from all visible, then to all black, kind of like slatted blinds being closed, but at random. After this, it displays the same symptoms as if I had found the screen off while in a dock/charging.
Now, I don't want to say it's related, but I first started experiencing this on the Stock KitKat update from Verizon. I am currently using Cyanogenmod 12 nightlies and I am experiencing the same issue. It seems to be happening with greater frequency.
I have also experienced the blue screen effect when certain animations/elements/apps are up on my screen, but I think they are unrelated.
Also, there is a faint discoloration bar about 2/5ths of an inch thick uniformly vertically from top to bottom of my phone on the righthand side (just under where the notification bar would be if turned horizontal).
I've tried to find more information about this but my search results have been relatively lackluster (90% of the results are trying to sell me the phone or specification pages)
So I'm breaking down and turning to here. Does anyone know what's going on here? My current theory is that my screen is going bad. I have no intention of replacing the screen on this phone (would rather just buy a new one), so any suggestions that don't involve physical hardware repairs would be appreciated.
I thought i was the only one experiencing it.
The screen turning off with a weird effect happens rarely but yeah it happens. And the blue screen effect, i noticed it only happens when im on the youtube app when the video stops working because of my connectivity issues.
Im not rooted nor is my bootloader unlocked. On the latest system version. Sounds like a software problem but hey im no expert.

i also have this with my referb i made moto give me my money back and they let me keep the phone for me it was very rare but my new phone also had a really bad screen all yellowish and bad white balance in low light if you are unhappy with it call them and say you are unhappy with the replacement here is the white glove number 800-653-7185 they are more understanding and nice but you may lose you ability to unlock your bootloader on the new phone if it comes with the latest software just a warning
I have that screen off with lines slowly disappearing thing, too And, yeah, it's also a refurbished one, bought from one of the sellers on aliexpress... I thought Lollipop was the culprit or something like that. Oh, well... It rarely happens. And luckily I only have that, not the second issue you mentioned
I am having this exact same issue. The weird lines-to-black screen thing, and the flickering blue screen when watching video. Are you saying the solution is to call Motorola and ask for a new phone?
The blue flickering can be prevented by going into Developer Options and checking "Disable HW Overlays".
The discolored stripe on the screen sounds like burn-in; these AMOLED screens are much more susceptible to burn-in than the LCD screens used in older phones. Whomever owned the phone before it was returned to Motorola probably had something running on their screen continuously with a bright-colored bar at the top, likely in a car or desk dock. The screen is very easy to replace yourself with an eBay part, if you're inclined; it involves 2 screws and 2 connectors.
I've seen the lines-to-black thing exactly twice since I got this phone refurb two months ago. Sorry, I don't know what causes it or how to avoid it, but the workaround is quick and simple enough that I'm not worried about it, yet.
