Cut down on notification alerts? - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Is there a setting or modification available that can make the phone only alert you that you have a notification every, say... 5 minutes? I don't mean that it'll keep reminding you every 5 minutes for the same notification, I mean that if there are more notifications within 5 minutes of the "first" one, the phone will not alert again.
This would be great for all the scenarios that I can't respond immediately but a friend is messaging me in multiple messages (as is typical behavior in instant messaging). The repeating and sometimes overlapping alerts are bothersome. I still want to know if I got something so I'm not going to just turn off alerts either.
So, is there anything that can help me out?

Anyone?

'Wake Up' on Notification

Is there an app or setting to force the phone to "wake up" when a new notification comes in (gmail, sms, calendar, etc...). I find it easy to miss notifications when the phone is locked and it would be nice for the screen to turn on when a new notification is received on my Captivate.
ChompSMS has a setting that will repeat notifications. I have it set to repeat every 2 mins. That way, my Samsung Vibrant at least has an audio and vibrate notification until I get it. I don't remember if it lights up too...I'll have to check.
edit: it does in fact light up the display for each repeat. The repeat can be set as low as every minute.
ChompSMS is in the google marketplace.

Isn't that just for SMS though? I want something that can handle all notifications especially Google Voice and GMail.

[Q] Notification Screen Flash App?

Seeing as that the Captivate does not have a notification LED, it sometimes becomes a problem noticing new notifications. I just want to know if there is some kind of application that would flash the screen for a few seconds or so when the phone receives a new notification. I remember my iPhone doing that and it would be cool to see Android phones doing the same.
Look in the development forum for captivate, there is a thread doing this exact thing
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
No, I know about the red dot on the screen thing. I dont really need that and besides, I believe it kills battery. I just want some app to turn the screen on for a few seconds when I get a notification.
Maybe go to the noled thread and see if he'll add that feature
my screen does flash when I get a message. It pops up in the notification bar and shows two lines of the message then shuts off.

It does this when it is sleeping?
I just tested it. When its locked and the screen is off it revives itself when I get and MMS or SMS. For emails it does not.
handcent sms will do it when you adjust the settings for the popup menu
Oh, maybe it only works for SMS and MMS notifications only. I would like the screen to flash on for every notification (Gmail, Feedr, AIM, etc). Kind of like how the iPhone worked with push notifications.

Facebook Messenger notifications

Hello guys,
I own a Vodafone Smart 2 (rooted, Stock ROM). I usually have the Internet turned off and I only turn it on (WiFi) on the night at home. When I turn on the Internet, my phone starts receiving lots of notifications from Facebook Messenger. It receives one notification per message, even if I've already read it before on another device. The phone keeps ringing for like 30 seconds and then it stops. If there are unread conversations, the notification stays on the bar; otherwise if I have read it before, it rings but then disappears from the bar.
Any idea on how to stop notifications of messages that I've read before? Any suggestion is welcome! Thank you.

Constant notifications

Not sure if anyone else is having this issue but I'm getting constant notifications on my A9. Doesn't matter if it's an email, text, twitter, missed call, voicemail, snapchat, etc. I'll get the initial notification and every ten seconds later I'll get it again until I clear it from the notification bar. It's getting to the point where I'm about to just turn off all notifications and just physically check every so often or just go back to my M8.
Anyone else have this issue or know how to stop the re occuring notifications?

Nevermind, I'm an idiot. :embarrased:
- goto settings
- Accessibity
-scroll down to 'Notification reminder'
- Press this so that it is OFF
Life is always more complicated than you want
This is true, I seem to do that alot lol.
I was having the same problem, thanks for posting the fix as it is not obvious to go into accessibility to turn off these notifications and PS I did turn off all notifications and that did not stop them.

Multiple notifications

Probably not the first to ask this - anyone know why I get multiple notifications? Sometimes I get 3-4 notifications for one text or appointment. When I look at my phone there's only one thing showing so its just the notification. Curious...
depend if the app on your phone (re)send notification regularly ? some app like tasker send for example "no active profil" every few minutes but you just see ONE notification on the phone.

Thanks. I only use stock apps for text, email, and calendar. The dupes are usually for text and I can get up to three sometimes.
