[Q] Setting Picture as Wallpaper - Picture scaled and centered instead of cropped - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am trying to set a picture I took with my digital camera as my wallpaper but am having a hard time. The preview shows the crop box with the area I want but when I set it as the wallpaper the home screen instead shows the full picture scaled to about 25% and centered on the screen so I end up with a small image surrounded by a large black border.
I have edited the pictures to be 1920x1200 which I know is not the correct resolution but it is more than adequate for all the other images I have used as wallpapers. This is only happening with images I took myself also.
Has any one else seen this happen and possible know a fix?
Thanks

I may have figured it out the images that have the trouble have an extension of .JPG I re-saved one with the extension lowercase, .jpg, and it displayed properly.

Image Resizing

I'm not familiar with how to resize images. I have tried many online websites to change the size of a particular image to fit perfectly on the nexus one as a wallpaper. As you'll see in the picture I would like to keep the entire "TRIGUN" word without it being cutoff when I'm forced to crop for it to be a wallpaper.
Can anyone help me out and resize the image to fit perfectly as a wallpaper. I would be so grateful and so would other Trigun fans.
I am trying to keep the picture as a whole if that is possible
960x800 is the sizing of the wallpapers in Launcer2.apk, so that is what I re-sized this to.

I don't think the image would be in the same quality uploaded to the forum so I uploaded it to photobucket.
Thank you so much. I appreciate your help

[Q] What's a good wallpaper size?

I mean I know the resolution is 1280x800, but as you swipe between the homescreens the wallpaper moves in the background.
That suggests to me that its wider than 1280 pixels to fit over all screens.
So what would be a good resolution?
(I can start looking for pictures now, whilst i wait for the device )
The default_wallpaper.jpg file showing the tree and clouds is 2135 x 1408 pixels.

Thanks, but does that mean it is being squeezed horizontally? Or do it crop it?
Now it suddenly sounds confusing.
I'd assume it should be the same as the default one 2135x1408 as it has to be for both landscape and portrait, as well as scrolling side to side.

Ah yes, good point - it has to work in both modes - it just makes it harder for the end user to get the focus of the picture in picture so to speak.
Oh well, I guess its a minor problem
Is it just me or when I try and take a picture from my Gallery and use it as a Wallpaper no matter how big I make the crop box it still kind of zooms in when its set as the wallpaper?
Also when you go to change the wallpaper you have a Wallpaper section but how do you put new wallpapers into this section as it doesn't come up when connected to the pc?
Depending on how its implemented...i would say its a 2:1 ration that being x:y respectively. so w/e that is with the stock res would be what u want. ... 1600x1200?
You could just do the largest of the screen res for both x and y. 1280 x 1280 would cover the background in either landscape or portrait.

But you also want to scroll between your homescreens. And a 1280x1280 resolution would not make this any beautiful experience
if the app wallpaper set and save works then use that and take a native resolution wallpaper (same as stock). I use this app on my galaxy s and sets the picture perfectly where as the galaxy s makes a right hash of it
I have a picture where I want to show most of the picture as the bit I want to show on the homesecreen is in the middle right of the picture, but no matter how I crop it always zooms in too much and cuts off half the detail I want. I was thinking of adding some black bars to the top and bottom of the pic, as hopefully it would zoom out a bit then and the only time you'd see the black bars is when the wallpaper scrolls 'up' like when you press and hold the desktop to get to the widget menu.

If that works, perhaps you could make a short of template of that and share it with us
Sometimes wallpapers differ on each device due to screen Resolution
So i would suggest that you find your devices resolution by taking a Screenshot and checking the Screenshot.png dimensions
Suppose its 720x1280 , now multiply the width x 3 (depending on number of homescreens) , the new dimensions are2160x1280
So now you can have an idea of what size of wallpaper you should be looking for, for being precise you can calculate the ratio also .

Weird squished thumbnails

Hello! Has anyone experienced this? With the first screeny (messaging quick launch), the photos appear nicely with th black borders on the side. It just looks neat. However, on the second screeny, (full screen messaging app), the thumbnails get stretched to fill the whole thumbnail box. Is there any fix for this? The thumbnail pics btw came from Facebook sync.

Tab 2 Blurry backgrounds with CM 10.1

Okay so I'm not new to rooting and the like but with Cyanogen 10.1 on my S3 and tab 2 10.1 I'm having this annoying issue. When I set an image as a background from the gallery it brings up the blue re-sizing grid thing and with that the height maxes out with a vertical screen rotation and it wont let me size the cropping grid all the way out to the full size and the picture ends up blurry as crap even though is a relatively high res picture. Originally with the tab 5113 and the S3 it would be just the single blue box and i could make it the full size of the pictures. Tips, tricks, suggestions?
Use a bigger picture. It needs to be over 1280 pixels high to look right.

I don't think thats it to be honest. I don't generally bother with a picture unless its fairly large (1600x1200+). In the first screenshot you can see how the height is maxed out before the width reaches the edge and it won't let me crop the entire image as the background compared to the original gallery in the second screen shot where I can set the width and height however I need to.

Black bar on the bottom wallpaper? Here's a easy fix

I recently purchased a Moto X and instantly fell in love with all the phone had to offer. I like to change the wallpaper around and found that when i download a wallpaper and set it, the black bar appears on the bottom of the phone, making the phone's screen appear smaller.
I went to gallery and on the set to wallpaper, I pinched to zoom in just a tad, set, and long behold the blackbar was gone. I was running apex launcher. The tip is pretty simple but i'm sure there are users out there that have no idea.
If this helped you feel free to send a thanks over! :good:

Hi, I'm having this problem. But pinching doesn't seems to work, or maybe I don't know how you did it, could you please explain a little more?
PS. Sorry, english is not my first language
What's the image size of the wallpaper?
Today I Found that if you Download the wallpaper or image size of 1080x1920 There would be no need to pinch to zoom, you just set the wallpaper from gallery with the size of 1080x1920
Here are steps:
1. Download wallpaper/Image (size 1080x1920 )
2. Open gallery and find your downloaded image
3. Click settings button, click "set picture as"
4. Click set wallpaper. (If your size isn't 1080x1920, then you will have to zoom in until the blackbar is gone )
The web site that i use for most my wallpapers is interfacelift. Size is 1080x1920,
Let me know if this helped you out.
Also just cropping it with photos instead of gallery works
Image 2 Wallpaper app in the play store works great for all picture sizes....it's free.

Actually any 720x1280 image will work, notice that i did not say 1280x720.
the minimum height of the image should be 1280 and width of 720 or more, the important thing to make the black bar disappear is to beminimum height of 1280
We are used to seeing images of the shape of our monitors, 720 high and 1280 long
