I recently purchased a Moto X and instantly fell in love with all the phone had to offer. I like to change the wallpaper around and found that when i download a wallpaper and set it, the black bar appears on the bottom of the phone, making the phone's screen appear smaller.
I went to gallery and on the set to wallpaper, I pinched to zoom in just a tad, set, and long behold the blackbar was gone. I was running apex launcher. The tip is pretty simple but i'm sure there are users out there that have no idea.
If this helped you feel free to send a thanks over! :good:

Hi, I'm having this problem. But pinching doesn't seems to work, or maybe I don't know how you did it, could you please explain a little more?
PS. Sorry, english is not my first language
What's the image size of the wallpaper?
Today I Found that if you Download the wallpaper or image size of 1080x1920 There would be no need to pinch to zoom, you just set the wallpaper from gallery with the size of 1080x1920
Here are steps:
1. Download wallpaper/Image (size 1080x1920 )
2. Open gallery and find your downloaded image
3. Click settings button, click "set picture as"
4. Click set wallpaper. (If your size isn't 1080x1920, then you will have to zoom in until the blackbar is gone )
The web site that i use for most my wallpapers is interfacelift. Size is 1080x1920,
Let me know if this helped you out.
Also just cropping it with photos instead of gallery works
Image 2 Wallpaper app in the play store works great for all picture sizes....it's free.

Actually any 720x1280 image will work, notice that i did not say 1280x720.
the minimum height of the image should be 1280 and width of 720 or more, the important thing to make the black bar disappear is to beminimum height of 1280
We are used to seeing images of the shape of our monitors, 720 high and 1280 long

I mean I know the resolution is 1280x800, but as you swipe between the homescreens the wallpaper moves in the background.
That suggests to me that its wider than 1280 pixels to fit over all screens.
So what would be a good resolution?
(I can start looking for pictures now, whilst i wait for the device )

Thanks, but does that mean it is being squeezed horizontally? Or do it crop it?
Now it suddenly sounds confusing.
I'd assume it should be the same as the default one 2135x1408 as it has to be for both landscape and portrait, as well as scrolling side to side.

Ah yes, good point - it has to work in both modes - it just makes it harder for the end user to get the focus of the picture in picture so to speak.
Oh well, I guess its a minor problem
Is it just me or when I try and take a picture from my Gallery and use it as a Wallpaper no matter how big I make the crop box it still kind of zooms in when its set as the wallpaper?
Also when you go to change the wallpaper you have a Wallpaper section but how do you put new wallpapers into this section as it doesn't come up when connected to the pc?
Depending on how its implemented...i would say its a 2:1 ration that being x:y respectively. so w/e that is with the stock res would be what u want. ... 1600x1200?
You could just do the largest of the screen res for both x and y. 1280 x 1280 would cover the background in either landscape or portrait.

But you also want to scroll between your homescreens. And a 1280x1280 resolution would not make this any beautiful experience
if the app wallpaper set and save works then use that and take a native resolution wallpaper (same as stock). I use this app on my galaxy s and sets the picture perfectly where as the galaxy s makes a right hash of it
I have a picture where I want to show most of the picture as the bit I want to show on the homesecreen is in the middle right of the picture, but no matter how I crop it always zooms in too much and cuts off half the detail I want. I was thinking of adding some black bars to the top and bottom of the pic, as hopefully it would zoom out a bit then and the only time you'd see the black bars is when the wallpaper scrolls 'up' like when you press and hold the desktop to get to the widget menu.

If that works, perhaps you could make a short of template of that and share it with us
Sometimes wallpapers differ on each device due to screen Resolution
So i would suggest that you find your devices resolution by taking a Screenshot and checking the Screenshot.png dimensions
Suppose its 720x1280 , now multiply the width x 3 (depending on number of homescreens) , the new dimensions are2160x1280
So now you can have an idea of what size of wallpaper you should be looking for, for being precise you can calculate the ratio also .
Hi, I'm making my own custom wallpaper. I know that the single screen size for the Galaxy S 4g is 480x800. A full desktop is 960x800. The 960x800 wallpaper works just fine on my phone. I'm running ICBINB GB KH1 rom. Now I don't care for scrolling wallpaper, so I made my wallpaper 480x800. When I chose the wallpaper, it gives me the option to crop at 480x800 or 960x800. I chose the 480x800 option, size it up to make sure the whole picture is in the crop and save. Choosing this crop option when prompted on the phone, stops the scrolling. So again, the phone gives you two options to crop. They are 960x800 (multiple home pages that scroll) or 480x800 (single home page that will not scroll, just like a lockscreen.) Now I know this method works, as it works perfectly fine on my brothers stock Galaxy S 4G, as well as my second brother's Galaxy S2. I'm wondering if it is just an issue with this rom. Anyone else running this rom have this issue?
Your absolutely right. It should work just as you described. I am running the same rom and it doesn't work for me either. Some say you can get an app to set wallpaper, but I thought getting an app to do something so basic as setting wallpaper was a not an option I wanted to take. I only use 2 home screens. So basically what I did was make a side by side image of my 480x800 image so that it ends up being one 960x800 image. Then it fits just fine. So when I scroll to the second homepage I still get the full 480x800 image for both home screens. Of course this only works for 2 home screens. Take a look at what I mean with having to make my image side by side to make a full 960x800 image:
you could take you image into photoshop or another image editing program and rescale the image down to the size you want
Hopefully someone can answer this for me.
Why is it that no matter what size I save an image as that the wallpaper setter always wants me to crop it? I just ran an image through Gimp to re-size it to fit the dimensions of the boot image for the boot image app, bit even at 255x320 the wallpaper tool wants to crop most of the image away. What size image does the darn thing want? Maybe I'm a tech-tard, but I thought I should be able to figure this out on my own.
Thanks for any help you can give me on this, it's been bugging me for a while now.
Can't remember exactly what the wallpaper size is, but I do know I could never get it to work.
Here's what I learnt off another post here.
Download Wallpaper Slide show (Birbeck) from the Market and download any size wallpaper and point the app to that folder, usually downloads. Then select wallpaper slide show under live wallpapers, have it set randomn or whatever you want.
Then you have nice pictures with no need to mess about cropping or downloading exact sizes.
You can change wallpapers on the fly just by tapping on the screen.
Thanks Xoom68,
I'll give it a try.
Try 1920 x 1408
Okay so I'm not new to rooting and the like but with Cyanogen 10.1 on my S3 and tab 2 10.1 I'm having this annoying issue. When I set an image as a background from the gallery it brings up the blue re-sizing grid thing and with that the height maxes out with a vertical screen rotation and it wont let me size the cropping grid all the way out to the full size and the picture ends up blurry as crap even though is a relatively high res picture. Originally with the tab 5113 and the S3 it would be just the single blue box and i could make it the full size of the pictures. Tips, tricks, suggestions?
Use a bigger picture. It needs to be over 1280 pixels high to look right.

I don't think thats it to be honest. I don't generally bother with a picture unless its fairly large (1600x1200+). In the first screenshot you can see how the height is maxed out before the width reaches the edge and it won't let me crop the entire image as the background compared to the original gallery in the second screen shot where I can set the width and height however I need to.
Hello,
I want to set a 1080x1920 picture as wallpaper but I can't make it to fit my screen perfectly - there are either black bars at some sides of the screen or the wallpaper is messed up. I've tried to use Wizardrii and Image2Wallpaper in many ways and this is the closest of what I was able to do: http://i.imgur.com/RuMWRNu.jpg
Any suggestions? I'm using Action Launcher Pro without any additional screens so I don't want my wallpaper to scroll. I would like it to be something like if you set a wallpaper on Windows PC. Plain and simple
Out of interest, are higher res wallpapers better?

Not sure what do you mean but I always like to choose high resolution wallpapers, they simply look nicer for me. Also I prefer static wallpapers over the scrolled ones.

Screen is 1080x1920 in portrait mode. Not.1920x1080 so make sure you're getting wallpapers then right shape.
If you get a higher resolution than that, it cannot look better. It will either crop or compress (which could look worse) but if you do get a higher resolution than that, do you still get the bars?

I'm aware about differences, that's why I'm looking for 1080x1920 wallpapers instead of reversal Also when I look for higher resolution wallpapers, I usually look for those who are exactly 1.5x or 2x bigger than the native resolution and for those with the same aspect ratio (16:9/9:16 in that case). I'll look for a bigger wallpapers and then let you know.
EDIT: Found a wallpaper which is two (...or four?) times bigger: http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2013/313/d/2/bad_boy_by_p0nystark-d6tnf8n.jpg
Trying to set it as wallpaper resulted in a black bar on top of the screen: http://i.imgur.com/RpFoBGB.jpg
I'm still messing with all the possible options in both of those apps. How come that Android itself is not able to properly set such a wallpaper? For me it is actually ridiculous...
