[Q] Is this set up correctly for sync of Gmail? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm starting to wonder if I have my Gmail set up correctly.
I've been getting "double notices" when getting email....and now I realized that in my "Accounts and Sync" I have both Gmail and Asus mail set to sync...
can someone who has Gmail look at their settings and tell me what's supposed to be in that sync list and what notification settings I should have set to on?

You need the goggle account anyway to be able to use the market and stuff so you can delete the mail account (the one with the yellow envelop).

Ghost,
But that is tied to the widget....without setting up Asus email up...the widget doesn't fetch email..right?

I only have Google account on there. No ASUS Mail or E-Mail. Only one e-mail account is being sync'd on my part.

so are you using the Asus Email Widget?
I'm using the Asus Email Widget and up until just today, everything has been fine..1 notification, the widget works...
But now...I'm getting double notifications, I know it's something that I've set up wrong.

No. I don't need to check other emails so I don't have the widget.
If you ONLY have Gmail and don't need to check other emails. Then take it off.
You have Gmail looking on two different apps. The only one you should have it under is the Gmail app under Google accounts.

I'm not being very clear, I can tell.
let me start over.
I like using the Asus Email widget.
Up until today, I set it up and it would show me how many Gmails I've not read, and give me one notification for each time an email came in.
I've done something wrong, and now though I see only 1 new email on the widget (that I like to use and have been using with just Gmail) ...I get duplicated notifications in the notification bar.
I'd just like to stop the double notifications and keep using the widget for gmail..I like it.
I hope that's more clear.

Go into the Gmail app -> Top right -> Settings -> [email protected] -> Notifications -> Email notifications.
Uncheck that. This shouldn't alter your ability to sync with Google, should only be the notification bars. Look in the ASUS Email widget settings and see if there's something like that, I've never used it so I wouldn't know. But that should fix your double notifications.
And yeah that clarified things for me. I thought it was Accounts & Sync problem.

[Q] K-9 email questions

Hey guys,
I am trying this app as Samsung is apparently never going to update the Captivate to 2.2. and therefor we will never get the newer Gmail app that has font size adjustment, and other new features. Sorry but my eyes are a bit sick of looking at tiny text in the 2.1 Gmail app. So I installed K-9.
K-9 is pretty nice! Very customizable but I have a few questions:
1. There are so many settings in this app. Does anybody know of a good help site for this app? I just want to make sure that it pushes new emails to the device like the Gmail app does. What do I need to do to make sure this happens? It is showing 3 separate Sent folders. Not sure why I have that many.
2. Lots of images in emails are showing up as little blue question marks. (similar to flash sites on Safari on iPhone). What is happening here? These images show up fine on the iPhone Email app.
Thanks guys!
So it is pushing messages to K-9, but when I delete a message from K-9 inbox, the gmail inbox (webmail or Gmail app) does not reflect these changes.
Can anybody explain this behaviour?
Thanks!
I've also noticed that but it doesn't really bother me too much considering how much space Gmail gives me. So I don't really bother to delete anything anyway.
I just like my inboxes to match. Maybe there is some setting I am missing. I really want to keep using K-9 as it is really a pleasure to read email with.
not sure if i am right but pretty sure 2.2 is coming out mid-late Nov (next month)....

Unfortunately the Samsung press release is from Samsung UK, and is a little vague about 2.2 for carriers outside the UK getting 2.2.
I am not holding my breath.

Dude, thanks!
Upon some more playing around, I have determined this is really a nice email app and I am shocked it is free. Hopefully it is secure. Amazing how customizable it is.
Do you use it instead of Gmail or Email on your device?

I use it for my non-Gmail email accounts. Really like it. I set it to auto download emails only when Active sync is on my phone which gives me an easy way to control this function without going into settings. I don't like my email to get downloaded while I am sitting at my computer at work, but all other times. Use Tasker then to turn this setting on and off at appropriate times of day and week. Never could get this to work exactly like this in WM. I love Android!!!

Yes, I do. I use it for a work account and a second personal account but keep gmail on it's own app. There are some options that make it very nice for multiple accounts and easy access. Color coding individual accounts, alternating sync times and setting "time of day" sync schedules are just some of them.
I have tried a few email apps now and K-9 slaps them all. I am having trouble finding issues or a lack of options in this free app. Almost doesn't make since. It's worth contributing to for sure.

Gmail Query

I hope this isn't a really silly question.. does anyone know how to empty the recycle bin in the GMail app on the transformer?? I have the dustbin icon available on other folders but can't find one here (or an empty option).

Because when you "Delete" emails from the Gmail app they aren't deleted, they are archived. At least that's my guess.
If you mean the 'trash' label, it does not appear there is a function to delete all. Across the board in the app, there's no 'check all' option to delete multiple messages under a label.
I would guess if you want to empty it, you'd have to do it from a PC, or at least in the desktop version of the website.
Thanks all.. yeah looks like it's not an option on the Gmail App then.

Rushed job
I dont know. I find the gmail for tablet a little disturbing. There certainly stuff lacking. The amount of emails downloade is only few. And when you scroll down, there's a "download more" button. That's pretty damn annoying. When you're offline you can't go back very far.
On my EVO4G, there's a setting to download weeks worth, months worth, whatever you specify. There's none of that settings on the asus mail or the gmail for tablet. But at least you can set exchange limits.
Also you can't select a range of emails. But you can select multiple and move it to another folder by putting check marks by the ones you select then hold down a couple of seconds...then drag it to trash can...the trash can will empty itself when you exit the email.
I use the stock email app for my gmail instead of the actual gmail app. Seems to work better and have more options.

The setting is under Settings > Your Gmail Account > Labels to Sync.
Lets you set the number of days, and then you can either set each label to 'Sync all' or the amount of days you set in the top setting option.
Works fine for me. I don't have but maybe 10 emails in my inbox, and they stay synced just fine.
If you've already set the above to 'Sync all', then likely it's the data-phobic behavior built into the app. Notice there's no setting to automatically display images? Likely because they don't want the application to suck down a ton of data while you're on 3G or 4G (which costs you money).
IIRC, I think Honeycomb 3.1 has some advanced settings to differentiate between being on WiFi (where you probably don't care about data limits) and 3G/4G.

I'm not getting that setting for gmail. My exchange account has amount of days to sync, but the gmail does not. How are you setting up the gmail with number of days to sync? I don't have "labels to sync" nor do I have "sync all" in my settings. Are we talking about the transformer here?
EDIT: OK nevermind...you are talking about the GMAIL app, not the email app set up with gmail account. Yeah, I guess there's more options in the original gmail app than the one from asus.

[Q] Asus email widget

Anyone have one similar for gmail or know of a way to get this one to work with gmail?
It looks nice but I only use gmail and not an external mail...
Mine works just fine with gmail. I have two gmail accounts and an exchange work account on mine for which all are working great together.

The TF has one already...At least mine does.
It looks nice but i can't use it. 0 mails? You've gotta be kidding XD
The email icon that shows unread count?
Mine al was shows 0 and when I click on it asks me to setup email but I use the gmail email app....
The email widget had a bug. It was fixed in firmware update1. If you have that firmware and it's still not working then just remove the widget from the homescreen, reboot, and re-add the widget.
I think the OP means "Gmail" app (not gmail account). It only works on the "email" app, with your "gmail account".
And yes, it doesn't work for the "Gmail" app. It would be great if it works on the "Gmail" app as it has push notification (not delayed like the "email app"). I really like this widget, so I am forced to use the "email" app instead. I set up my gmail account on the "email" app for this to work.
I also wish that this works on the "gMail" app.
I updated and removed/readded and still doesn't show gmail count... do I have to setup gmail in the email setup or can it be just through the gmail app?

It has to be with the "email" app.
Boo---someone want to make an equivalent one for gmail?
Is there a plus to the email app for gmail over the gmail app?
there is already one for gmail?
at least it comes with my tf.....look your widget screen..the gmail widget is just next to the email widget..
Failing that, get an app free from the market called 'Elixir'. It has that as a widget now, along with tons of others.

mine said that for days then i restarted it, and it has worked perfect after that with 3 accounts. 1 gmail, 1 yahoo, 1 military account.
I just signed in with my gmail information into the Asus widget and it works fine for me. Then I turned off the Gmail notification in the Gmail App so I only get 1 notification from the Asus Email widget everytime I get new mail.

I think he means the small one that is just a new mail indicator.
You can set up GMail as an exchange account from within the device and set the GMail account in the GMail application not to sync and to sync with GMail through the EMail program instead.
Google setup up GMail as an Exchange account.

All nice workarounds, but it kind of defeats the purpose of a seperate and pre-installed gmail-app. I find that the gmail app works better then the stock @-app so the Asus widget would be extremely cool to display my number of new emails and with a click get me to the gmail-app...
On my Nexus, I have a really nice Gmail Unread Count widget. One for my primary account, same widget with a different colour signifies my secondary account.
Easy. Tapping either opens the correct account.
Simples.
Unfortunately, it doesn't currently work for Honeycomb. But it should be really easy to do... :/
Aside from elixir, there aren't any other Widgets that do this that I can see.. I left a honeycomb compatibility request on the review page for gmail unread count, but that was a few weeks ago and there's been no movement
**EDIT** Have emailed the developer on the off chance.. also, tried elixir and the unread count widget doesn't seem to work despite there being unread emails in my inbox..

mmm how are you able to set up 3 different account with the Asus widget account? I would love a way to add my gmail to it. right now I only have my yahoo account but love to add gmail account too. thanks

[Q] anyone get gmail in messaging app?

I don't see my gmail accounts in the messaging app. When i try to add them through the messaging app I get a message that the account already exists. I've tried deleting them and reinstall them through the messaging app but the gmail account still isn't there.
Anyone have any ideas?
Havn't ever used the mesaging app, but sorta seems like extra steps if you could just use the Gmail app itself?
Yeah, I would agree. The Gmail app was made to be used for just Gmail.
I know it seems counter intuitive to use two different apps, if you have several mail accounts like I do, but I actually like having my Gmail on it's own.
Hopefully i am not interpreting the OP incorrectly.
But for me to see my gmail account in the messaging app, I had to add it as an "Email" type account and not a "Google" account.
Menu > Accounts > Add Account > Email > Enter Gmail email address and leave automatically configure account checked. Follow the on screen prompts to complete setup.

It is kinda redundant, but it does work for the messaging app and Universal inbox.
kirkgbr - thanks for the info, that worked.
JRW 28 and jimbridgman - while I don't dislike the gmail app, I like having an universal inbox where I can see all my accounts (gmail and non-gmail) in one place.

Calendar

A search has not fully answered my question. After having to factory reset today, I noticed my calendar (I input from the phone itself) did not sync with google calendar and back things up. I lost prior three weeks and next two weeks of appts. After looking through settings of the calendar app and the phone itself and messing with it, it still doesn't sync. Is there something missing? I noticed some others in the search had similar problems, but couldn't tell if they were the same as mine or not. Thanks!
stupid question but under your Gmail account you have calendar set to sync right? What happens when you tap the sync icon, does it sync or error out?

Yes the calendar is set to sync, when I sync it says it does. But again, if I check google calendar elsewhere, it hasn't changed.
Make sure you have your google calendar selected when adding events. The phone has its own calendar as well as all your google candidates that you have permission to write with. Perhaps you were writing to the phone's calendar instead of your google one?

Thanks, yeah I unchecked every car account excpet my google calendar and it still doesn't sync. Will see if replacement devcie does the same.
