I downloaded Dolphin HD because people have suggested it for those looking for a browser with an AdBlock function. Unfortunately when I go to install it, it seems to not be found in the market.
Any ideas on where to get it the AdBlock addon?
Thanks!
It's called AdFree Android

Anyone else have experience w/ absolute system tools adblocking feature?

If you are rooted just use AdFree, it blocks all ad's in you browser as well as in games, never had any problems with it only in some app's ad's are hardcoded in the app so you can not block them with it.
Dolphin HD had an adblock plugin (called adblocker) - quite usable - but one day they pulled it off the market and said only that "it caused problems with saving images" - they didn't fixed it, just removed it. The problem was that when you long tapped on a picture it showed a dialog allowing you to adblock the image but not save. I don't comprehend why they didn't just fix it (or at least disable the long tap feature of adblock), it shouldn't be hard.
I don't recommend AdFree and similar apps - they make loading pages longer and show 404 bugs in applications.
Ive been using it on my transformer and evo for a few months now, because adfree root adds way too much load time to web pages. Its a really great program it even lets you download and flash boot animations (on the EVO at least)
I'm not rooted, hence why I was looking for an in-browser option.
Since AdBlocker is no longer available for Dolphin, are there any other decent HC browsers that have an ad blocking option/function available?
Only Firefox Mobile from what I gather, but I hate it's interface and the way it renders pages (images especially).

Dolphin Browser Ad-blocking add-on
Lieber Kollegen,
I am new to the Android community. I have been trying to do my utmost to research the Android operating system and my tablet before it arrives. As such I have been looking for ad-blocking solutions and came across this while researching browsers.
freewarelovers (dot) com / android / app / adblock-plus
I hope it helps, I can't test it yet myself as my tablet doesn't arrive for another week and a half, but here's the description:
"General
Developer: Dolphin Browser Add-ons

Hey i use to use this for adblocking on my phone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741435
So i gave it a shot on my tf but no joy, so i was wondering if anyone has got a away of blocking ads in the browser not really fussed about ads in the apps
Thanks
Dolphin Browser has an adblock plugin that doesn't work very well. That's about it.
If you're rooted, just use AdFree, its free on the market. Just be sure to leave the symlink box unchecked and you should be good to go.
I use Ad-free from the market from dev big Tin Can or something on both my phone and now my TF it works well. It only works in portrait mode on the TF but it gets the job done the same, and best of all free on the market!
Thanks i've just had a look on the market but couln't find it anywhere :-\
Edit: just found it going to give it a try now thanks
was it just me or does adblock appear to not work anymore after 3.1 update?

No it still works.
Absolute Systems has this adblock feature too (using hosts). It blocks more sites than adfree, but the program costs some money. You can also manually edit the hosts file to point the site hosting ads to localhost or 127.0.0.1, which is what adfree and Absolute Systems are doing. Google will never add adblock features to the stock browser since they started their business with revenue from ads.
Firefox mobile has adblocker plus and it works amazingly well. Firefox doesn't support flash yet, but if you're doing general web browsing the trade-off with the adblock is well worth it

Rooted and using adfree, works nicely.
Have encountered a few banner locations displaying the couldn't be loaded bit, so either I need to restart to flush the dns cache or if that still happens, locate/edit the "page not found" default bit.
I'm also using Firefox beta 5.0 with Adblock plus. Works just like on the desktop. There was just an update to FF tonight, and I see that they fixed a couple of the little bugs.
Has anyone tried the Maxthon tablet browser yet? Is it me or is this the best browser out there? Let me know if anyone has any problems with this browser. So far i tried DolphinHD, Opera, Miren and the best so far for me is the Maxthon tablet browser.

we should let you know because....your concerned? or did you develop this?
With their statment, "Make no mistake, with over 500 million downloads of its PC web browser Maxthon knows how to make your web sizzle" I would have thought that I'd have heard of this before.
i used maxthon way back in the days before explore had tabbed browsing. i think it used to be a shell for ie and had some extra security and scripts to improve it.
Odd, I always thought it was Chinese spyware.

I don't know if it is now, but it was a recommended app way back by maximum pc. that along with ie pro... or something like that.
Well I've set the Market to install it once I'm back home so we'll see how it goes...
I've had my Xoom for a couple of weeks now and I've tried the built-in browser, Maxthon and Dolphin HD. To be honest, I think Maxthon pad is the most stable browser I have used so far. In fact, I have gone on to select it as my default browser.

I don't want to sound like an uninformed dummy here, but what is wrong with the default browser? All issues I've had with it have been site specific, which I credit to the site maintainers, not the browser. I simply avoid those sites on the Xoom.
Is the built-in browser more strict on standards-compliance? Is it not feature-rich enough? What exactly is the problem with it?

There is nothing "wrong" with it necessarily, but some browsers render faster, or more cleanly than the stock one.
I use opera, and maxthon

I'v been using MX for several years on my laptop. U konw why?
I could sync my favorates with the server.
Since MyIE2
I used Maxthon way back when it was MyIE2. I like it. I loved the mouse gestures, and it was just easier than IE. I continued using it after it became Maxthon for a while, but then I went Linux only for a few years and used FireFox and Opera. Now I'm strictly Google Chrome, but I think I will give it a look on the Xoom.
Using maxthon on xoom right now - DEFINITELY faster. I'm pleased.
Does anyone use Fire Fox web browser on Sensation? If so do you know if we can get Greasemonkey installed? Or something that can run a user script file?
Thanks
I had Firefox beta 6 I believe (or whatever the latest one is) and I didn't even keep it long enough to figure out if you can run those. I really prefer stock browser over that slow junk.
Just my opinion though

I also use mobile firefox. I have both 5 and 6 Beta installed. AFAIK Greasemoney is currently only available as a Desktop plug in.
I am not sure what others will do the job for you, but you can try searching their mobile plug in library.
To do this in FF:
-Swipe the entire page left
-Tap the gear icon on the bottom right (this will bring up a new screen)
-Tap the puzzle icon on the top to select the plugins page
-On the plugin page there will be a search box below your installed plugins.
Hope this helps.

I find Firefox quite unusable on the Sensation, a couple of open tabs is sufficient to cause Sense to shut down, requiring a restart when you exit the browser. Thats partly the Sensation's fault because of its low free RAM, and partly Firefox's fault for being bloatware. Frustrating, since I like Firefox in my SGSII and Galaxy Tab 10.1, which can cope with it despite its resource-hunger.
i actually havent had any issues with firefox, but i prefer the stock browser...
the best part about firefox on android is saving entire webpages as pdf's!
that, and syncing with your desktop. that was a clever idea
Try to use Dolphin Browser HD.
Would a plug in cound as a .JS file? As the site I'm playing needs this user script to have it more customizable. I've had no problems with FF or the sock browser, I've found that FF loads faster on some pages than the stock, but the stock just seems more simple to use.
Thanks again guys
Or if someoen has worked on a mobile version of "greasemonkey" ?
I recommend dolphin mini

i have firefox... sadly firefox doesnt support alot of things at the moment like flash, etc... i find dolphin hd to be the best browser by far for android... and once firefox catches up i will probably switch back over.... i think firefox has only realised the mass market of android in terms of their browser use as many are firefox desktop users... in time features will be implemented
I got flash to show up on Mobileburn with Firefox but it was kind of unstable and crashed..
Anyway Firefox uses less ram than any other browser (besides stock I think) and runs smoothly on my Sensation 4G. The Sense launcher is getting pushed out of the memory because it stinks. It happens with Dolphin, Opera Mobile and etc.
Well I am using two different browsers right now, the stock honeycomb browser and opera mobile. Opera does seem a bit quicker, but i havent figured out how to disable the mobile mode when doing any search, so thats a bit annoying and i prefer tabs to the method they use for multiple open pages.
Anyway, i was wondering how i can setup a specific site to use mobile or desktop or tablet mode. I only see a master option. Is it possible to do this?
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using xda premium
would love this feature too
The newest version of the stock browser in Prime! v1.9 has an option for "Website settings", allowing advanced settings for individual websites. However, there is no way to manually add new websites to the list, nor is there a way to view or change the settings for websites that do populate the list, and so far I've only seen Google-specific services like Gmail getting their own individual entries.
Sleipnir browser may be what you are looking for

It appears that the Sleipnir browser has this capability to set user strings per the actual website. I just downloaded it today to give it a try. I have been trying to find a way to create custom user strings (spoofing??) to truly force the desktop environment, I have been selecting the included "desktop" settings on both the stock browser and Dolphin for Pad browsers and it works ok for some sites, but others it doesn't work worth a crap. I have also been STFA to find the actual text/scripts for adding into the stock and Dolphin browsers under their "custom user agent string" settings. Trying to find the user agent strings that I can copy or type in and implement, has not been very fruitful so far (If anyone knows where I can find the information it would be appreciated)
Since I just downloaded the Sleipnir browser today I can't offer any feedback but it may be worth a try.

I keep switching between Boat, ICS+, Dolphin, Maxthon...
They all work and they all kind of suck too.
Maybe web browsing on android is just a pain in the butt.
It's the same on my wife's tablet...
Pick one...all the browsers freak out in varying degrees.
I realize this is a non-answer.
Good luck finding a smooth non crashing browser.
Sent from somewhere...
I use the stock browser and it is pretty much faster after I install (Browser2ram) (( need root ))
I use boat that it's perfect and chrome only for Facebook full site.

I've tried Chrome, Firefox Beta, Dolphin and ICS+ and went back to stock. As was previously said each one has its issues. Even on my HOX none of them works perfectly. When I set my CPU governor to Performance then the stock browser is as good if not better than the rest.
+1 for Boat - very fast, and very stable (I don't have *any* crashing issues with Boat). Still get the occasional web site that just doesn't work right, even with Boat, but it's the best I've found. Dolphin seems pretty good as well.

Dolphin because of the Lastpass plugin. Can't live without Lastpass, but I am sure Dolphin as a browser isnt the best, I wish other browsers would add it.

I like ICS+. The quick controls are convenient, but the main reason i stick with it is when Google imported my hundreds of bookmarks into it, all of them were still organized into all the folders and subfolders i spent HOURS on reorganizing. All the other browsers i have tried so far, just dump them all in with no organization at all. Just 200 something bookmarks plopped at your feet.
FireFox seems to be getting better, too. It's out of beta stage now.
I'm using Chrome for syncing bookmarks / open tabs with my PC, but it can be done with FF as well now, I believe.
I like Dolphin. It had everything i need. Boat is great, but i keep going back to Dolphin.
I don't like apps spying on me, so I don't like these two, but we had a discussion on that already in the best apps sticky thread a while ago, and jtrosky will beat the hell out of me for spoiling browsing fun by saying this, so I need to keep quiet.

Firefox does have sync ability.
Chrome and Stock browser both sync to your desktop bookmarks.
Browsing on Infinity is one of the weakness and hope to be improved aspect. Some one in this thread mentioned possibility of all browser sucks on android, which is NOT true. I had different tablet and its browsing experience was superior to iPad 2 for its speed, stability.
Also there is this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.h.chromemarks&hl=en, which allows you to launch any browser using chrome's bookmark.

Everything looked rather tiny on the Infinity last time I checked.
Mibile Firefox
I like to:good::laugh: work with Firefox on my Asus Tf700T. It works great and fast
Actually, I got my Infinity in july and right now the web experience is the main drawback experience so far. The lag and crash of the launcher is far less annoying that the slowness and lag of the web browsing. I have tested nearly all browsers and none is giving me good experience :
- stock browser : miss some functionalities, slow and laggy
- chrome : my prefered as i'm sharing my bookmarks with my personal computer, work computer and iphone but too slow and laggy
- firefox : looks nice and is doing bookmarks sync (but firefox does not exist for my iPhone), still beta version that deals very badly with plugins. For example when a page needs a flash player then it will display an ugly inside-window with "click here to activate the plugin" and that inside-window prevent any fast web browsing.
- others (boat, dolphin, opera ...) : not impressed, all miss the sync of chrome bookmarks (needed to have my bookmarks sync on all my platforms)
My hope is that Jelly Bean/next version of chrome will improve the stability and swiftness of that browser as this is the only one that contains all the functionnalities i need.
hmm, I might wait for the asus vivo tab. I'm traveling before it gets released, so I'm gonna be pretty gutted not using it overseas

Agreed..., sadly.
Though, if NoScript finally becomes available for FF then this will be a prime reason for me to stick to FF (beta or not,
not that much difference these days).
