Charge leads Huntsville, AL 4G! - Verizon Droid Charge

Any Charge owners from Huntsville, AL?
Well, we have 4G now
I realized it was the 21st, being 2am, and decided to switch over to Auto/LTE to check, and it's up!
Curious as to others' speeds in the Huntsville area. I've only done a couple speed tests so far and got 7.88 // 6.20 at best. From what I've noticed, 4G can/should? be quite a bit better. However, I've also read that on the GB 2.3.4 leak there was some issues with 4G speed.. and that doing the speed test via the browser works correctly.. gonna try that.
Anyway, go Huntsville

We’ve actually had it all day on the 20th. It came a day early for some reason. But I looked at my phone at 12:15 AM on the 20th and it showed 4G. We got Netflix support on the Charge on the 20th as well. Netflix and 4G is an awesome combo.

Haha yeah? I can't believe I didn't just go ahead and make the change in my settings..
That, too, huh? Awesome
Have you been getting similar dl/ul speeds?

I originally thought we were supposed to get it on the 16th, so I've had my settings set for it since then and it popped on sometime Tuesday night like 10 or 11 ish. I heard they were turning it on early if it was ready in those cities. Have you guys speed tested it?
the server mine defaults to in Arab hits about 20 MBps crazy great!

What! Haha, where in Huntsville were you to get that speed?
I live on southern pkway near walmart and got an average of 7mb.. Here at UAH I got less XD
Are you rooted or anything?
Sent from my SCH-I510 using Tapatalk

I've tested it 3 times. Each time it gets a little slower. First test when i first saw i had 4G i got about 22mb, the next was 15mb, and the most recent was 8mb.

Update roll outs & locations?

Does anyone know how OTA updates are pushed out with regards to location? It may just be me but it seems like updates on most handsets that I have owned including the Nexus S in NY take significantly longer to hit than the west coast.
I lived in California not long ago also and I would typically get updates quickly.
It seems to me that other people on the west coast or closer to it in forums also post to confirm they have received updates while east coast people are typically left posting their disappointment on not receiving the update yet.

Well, I believe Mountain View (El Goog's HQ) is in California so it might make sense that they roll it out there first.

You can manually push the update by downloading it.
I got it earlier today, after reading about the update on phandroid. I just turned my phone off and on and there it was. I live in so cal too so, who knows...
I got the Android update and market update early about an hour ago. I live in Toronto.
I'm in Florida and update came last night. My friend also in Florida (2 miles away) hasn't received it yet so I'm assuming location has nothing to do with when you receive it.

I always figured it's by IMEI number or Serial # or something similar.
Maybe people who get the update could post the first several digits of their IMEI and serial # so we can see if there's a pattern.
Just post enough to give an idea of the sequence, not the whole thing, so your privacy/security isn't impacted.
I started a poll to see if we can do this, please participate: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=924985
First-come-first-served
Updates are rolled out in batches, the longest gap being between the 1st and the 2nd batch. Google or manufacturers test if the 1st batch of roll-out is bug-free and if there's negative feedback from users. Subsequent roll-outs are more frequent.
People who activate their handsets first get the update first it seems, especially in the case of Nexus S, which is more or less carrier-independent (T-Mobile being an exception).

Bought my phone 12/16, 8:00 AM in the morning, activated immediately. That's about as early an activation as you could have with this phone. I have not been anywhere near the head of the line on the two OTAs from what I can tell.
But the rest of your post makes sense (the small roll-out as a sort of test parts).

Same here, I don't think activation has anything to do with it.
I think the west coast getting them first must just be part of the plan. Test the update by starting west and moving east.

But I'm on the west coast...Los Angeles. People here reported getting it. I might have sooner than later, but once the url to update to 2.3.2 was published, I jumped on it, so I'll never know for sure.
Hey guys, I just got the update on my phone (in SoCal). I received a pop-up message while I was fooling around with speedtest. Swype, of course, has stopped working and needs to be reinstalled.
It has nothing to do with location or activation! I received my Nexus S last tuesday and live ins switzerland. Nevertheless i got an OTA on saturday evening!

Newly produced G2x Today

Well, I've been cringing thinking about getting the G2x due to the large post with all the flaws etc. But after getting over it and going to the T-Mobile store in my area i just received a phone with a manufacture date of 4/29/11 and so far;
No LCD bleeding
No random reboots (as of yet)
No auto shut downs
No wifi issues
No reception issues
Battery life is great (first booted the phone, charged to 100%, then immediately did a factory reset)
So basically if you're interested in getting this phone, don't listen to all the hype (which almost got me to not get it)
Just make sure you're asking for the latest manufactured date.
(either the date has something to do with it, or i'm just 1 lucky son of a...)

i didnt have a problem with mine until a week i had it, i wish you best of luck and keep updating because i didnt notice those "bugs" till later.
Well this certainly sounds promising to me, as I'm on the waiting list for a replacement and the issues I've had occurred right off the bat. The backlight bleeding is getting worse though :/
Actually i live in gilbert, i picked the phone up in mesa

Which store? I have to referee out at the Field of Dreams tomorrow and I would not mind swinging by to see if they have any more of these pristine phones
It is at the fiesta mall area around alma school
Not to doubt you, but there's no physical way the phone could leave the production line in Korea, get to a shipping depot, make the trans-pacific trip, get to a T-Mobile distribution center in the U.S., and to a T-Mobile outlet in Arizona in four days.

It'd be interesting to see the dates of phones with bad LCD bleeding and issues.
Mine was made on 4/5/2011, going to exchange it before the 30 days for a newer one.

[Q] 4G in Huntsville, AL

I noticed on yesterday about 5pm, my Tbolt switched over to 4G for about an hour then went back to 3G I was getting around 15MB down and 3MB up testing it with various speed test. I also tested it with the Netflix app and in less that 5 seconds, the movie was streaming. Anybody else notice this in this HSV area?
Hey Huntsville buddy, I haven't had 4g turned on but you can be for damn sure I will right now. I'll post back if I see anything.

Alrighty....Just trying to spread some GOOD news for a change. Be sure to post again if I happen to get another glimpse of the "White Unicorn". LOL!!!
Dang I must have missed it. I guess you have to be looking at your phone at the right time. Although I live in Madison, but 4G should get to me right? But since I work in Huntsville maybe I will be able to at least enjoy 4G during the work hours.
I noticed it yesterday too. I guess they were doing some testing. My guess is perhaps they'll turn it on next week... Thursday? Regardless, at least we know they have 4G towers up in HSV. Now just a question of when they will turn it on permanently.

I live in Huntsville but it's basically Madison and also work in Madison. From what I understand it should extend out here also. I know that Montgomery's 4g supposedly extends to Troy and some other cities so there should be no way we don't see 4g in Madison also.

Yeah I stopped by the VZW store on Uni dr. when I saw this yesterday and the REP said that once its turned on permenantly for this area, it will strech past Decatur. Im hoping this is the case since I live in Madison as well. He wouldn't give me a definiate time frame but he said it should be by the end of June.

Lighting up Toledo officially July 21!
I feel bad for you guys I am in Fremont (We are part of the Toldeo Upgrade) and I have had 4g for two weeks now. Be prepared to call in for a replacement TB. As soon as the 4g turned on I was only getting 2 hours idle time before the phone died. Thats with minimal usage. They seem to be having a problem with some of the TBs and 4G. But you will love it. Here we are getting around 10Mb/5Mb. I noticed it was on in Toledo when I was near the amtrack station Saturday at 3am. Wasn't on at 4 though between 75 and 280 though on the turnpike.
I was in a verizon store in BG today and one of the sales reps told me 4G will be reaching there by the end of this month. Don't want to believe here as as that seem way way way to good to be true, but would sure be nice. Also found out the small town south of me, Fostoria, has 4G already and it wasn't even listed to get it yet. WTF!

no 4g love?

Had this phone about a week. Rooted with coredroid rom. I'm doing regular speed tests and im getting 1.2-2 mbps on average. Tonight i tried the 2nd apn and after a while i hit around 3. Am i missing something? Is att that lame? I'm coming from a captivate and i was getting those kind of speeds on it. I live in the philadelphia area so its not like i'm out in the woods.
thanks
