Just switched to AT&T from Sprint (cause my wife has been bugging the hell out of me for an iPhone 4)
I had originally got an iPhone 4 with her so to see what all of the hype was about....... after feeling constrained for about 2 weeks I had to go back to my first love....."Android"
Needless to say that the Captivate is great phone!! Loving the speed, screen size and crispness!!
Now..... on to rooting it...... LOL.
Just thought I would let you guys know that.

Me too and talk about a smack in the face. OLD School SERO plan holders can now upgrade to a plan that allows the 4G phones for 50 bucks a month.

Hit these forums as soon as I got it. Then Ran SRE. It just works. I currently don't have the lagfix on the phone because I'm a little scared of ext4 on solid state memory. I'm looking for data that shows just how many writes our memory can take before it craps out.

Funny thing is probably most of the confusion was with people who had rooted or flashed roms (at least that was my situation). Cause I've read a lot about people restoring old backups and other roms because they saw they were on 1x.

Yea, that happened to me too.. I had just flashed a new ROM earlier when I noticed it was happening.. wasn't sure what was going on so I called Verizon and didn't tell them I had flashed the ROM when they told me about the outage.

Good call. I almost did a restore then saw the news. Still might do a restore though because I'm using the CM7 pre-alpha and there is a terrible mic echo in calls.

I am pretty happy with the Virus Airborne ROM.. Flashed that this morning, also put adrynalyne kernel on it earlier for an overclock.. now just need the network back up so I can fully enjoy it..

4G back up here in Phoenix, AZ. As of the last 10 minutes. Woo hoo! Was at 1x all day.

Can not confirm 4G back up in Phoenix. Just rebooted and still on 1x.

I noticed on yesterday about 5pm, my Tbolt switched over to 4G for about an hour then went back to 3G I was getting around 15MB down and 3MB up testing it with various speed test. I also tested it with the Netflix app and in less that 5 seconds, the movie was streaming. Anybody else notice this in this HSV area?
Hey Huntsville buddy, I haven't had 4g turned on but you can be for damn sure I will right now. I'll post back if I see anything.

Dang I must have missed it. I guess you have to be looking at your phone at the right time. Although I live in Madison, but 4G should get to me right? But since I work in Huntsville maybe I will be able to at least enjoy 4G during the work hours.
I noticed it yesterday too. I guess they were doing some testing. My guess is perhaps they'll turn it on next week... Thursday? Regardless, at least we know they have 4G towers up in HSV. Now just a question of when they will turn it on permanently.

I live in Huntsville but it's basically Madison and also work in Madison. From what I understand it should extend out here also. I know that Montgomery's 4g supposedly extends to Troy and some other cities so there should be no way we don't see 4g in Madison also.

There hasn't been a press release so who knows when it goes live for real. I think I have my 4G off last night, I hope they flip the switch for a little bit this weekend.

Yeah I stopped by the VZW store on Uni dr. when I saw this yesterday and the REP said that once its turned on permenantly for this area, it will strech past Decatur. Im hoping this is the case since I live in Madison as well. He wouldn't give me a definiate time frame but he said it should be by the end of June.

By the end of June would be amazing. When I bought my Thunderbolt I honestly was thinking Fall at the earliest.

You know....I was thinking the exact same thing. Then I remembered that BHAM doesnt have it yet either. It seems like(at least in AL) that VZW in turning on 4G in reverse order rather than going from largest to smallest of bigger cities.
Yeah it does seem of how the bigger cities don't yet have it while we do. I'm not complaining mind you

So how's CM7? Been thinking about jumping the broom but with 4G so close, I want to be able to use it when its available.
I was on 4g on 565 at about 6:45 today. Did a quick speed check before I lost it, 6444kbps down 13542kbps up.

Battery life is still pretty bad, but over everything is working. Even got 4g today as you can see from my post above.
I thought I read a while back where I65 an us hwy 31 was supposed to get 4G coverage. If so, that would pretty much cover Cullman city. where I live. Any else heard this?

Yes Huntsville, AL will be getting 4G in about 30-45 days. So will decatur. Mobile and Montgomery already have it turned on. They have been testing the network in the are. My TB has been switching back and forth from 3-4g. I have customers come in the store asking this all week. It just around the corner!!!
Dang I keep missing the temporary 4G. Oh well I will be driving though Nashville soon, so I will get at for a little bit.

Well since both the G2x and the Optimus 2X suffer from reboots, we can only assume that it is hardware and not software. The LCD panel is generally crap, the phone randomly freezes for multiple seconds...
And its sad that an overclocked Nook Color gets better benches than our G2x's.
My Sensation should be here today (Tuesday) or Wednesday at the latest... We'll see how it performs... You know there is something wrong with a high end phone when you call T-Mobile retention and tell them your phone is rebooting and they say it must be a G2x and immediately ask what other model you would like to replace it with...

Ok, not wanting you to suffer any more than necessary....I reached over and grabbed my Sensation off the nightstand. I do have both. After reading all the hype, again, about the Sensation, I put my sim back in...fired that baby up.
I started reading comparisons about how great the qHD screen is. Processing speed....how you can play, almost every game. How internet was great...blazing speed, etc...
Ok....I really need to give this another shot...after all, I paid for it.
So...turned it on....No Wifi....reboot...No Wifi and no bars...hmmm...checking to make sure I removed the cone of silence....switched over to the LG....no wifi...duh...its off...but...2 bars 4g. Ok..maybe I'm holding it wrong...you know..Death Grip...so I grab a pencial and hold the the LG with just a pencil...4g 2 bars....Sensation....0 bars.
I'm sorry...how can I run a comparison when I can't get reception where I need it to get reception?

I have a Optimus 2X the AWS 1700 version which was released here in Canada on Wind Mobile and it suffers absolutely none if the issues which I have experienced with my G2X...one thing different I have seen while comparing the version info is my baseband version is dated Jun-05-2011 where as all the g2x's ive been through have a baseband date of March-27-2011
this phone is a beast when it works the way it should!
And holy cow. I have TimeWarner Wideband at home and LTE puts it to shame.
I thank myself every time i use my phone now that I got the Skyrocket over the regular GS2.
Holy speed batman.
Side note- Tethering... I had an iphone and about 6 months ago I got yelled at for tethering, threatening to turn off my unlimited data and put me on a tethering plan. Havnt done it since. I want to try it again... Is tethering on Android any different than on the iphone? I guess they were easily able to tell on the iphone, but is it the same case on android?? I drives me crazy I cant use my internet to the fullest extent! haha.

BTW, I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that you can tether if you are rooted. From what I was reading it seemed that the people that were doing this were not being charged by AT&T. Although I only read a few posts and don't know the details.
I'm sure someone here can clarify further.

Yeah about month ago i saw in chapel hill area and tried to do few quick speed test inside a building and speeds were just ok. I think AT&T is building it first in akron and then cleveland. Bc still have to see LTE show up on phone in cleveland area.

What radio are you using with SKY ICS? I'm using Seanz ICS in SE Florida where I was getting LTE with stock GB. I'm not getting LTE with this ROM and I know it has to do with the radio. I need to flash a modem and don't know which one to flash!

in regards to tethering, they can tell. When you tether they can tell by looking at the data packets. I'm not sure about the specifics, but the type of data packets or the signature or something changes so they can tell.
That's how they could tell with the iPhones, I'm sure its the same thing regardless of which phone you have because its more of a network thing.
I tether, with my old iPhone and this phone. But I'm not a heavy user (almost never even get close to 1gb of data). Never been yelled at.
If you do get called out on it, just play dumb. Just be like oh I didn't know I was doing that. I run Ubuntu from my phone, that might be it. You know, stuff that the representative won't know how to deal with / can't deal with it.

Im on UCLC5 from the note. Actually had that installed before i installed SKY ICS and it stuck. I've had no problems with it.
