Okay so obviously there is a lot of hype about the new CM7 update and about how many downloads it had and it gained my interest and I now want CM7 on my phone. So how do I find CM7 for my Inspire? I can't seem to find it anywhere...anyones help would definitely be appreciated.

I don't know how you couldn't find it, a Google search for CM rom inspire xda brought me to the above thread.

I've been using various Cyanogen and Hero ROMs since June and have now reverted back to the stock Vodafone UK ROM. In general the stock stuff is fine, it's quick and bluetooth audio works for phone and media. I need root access though to use Bluex for bluetooth file send/receive and pushing the HTC_IME keyboard
What I'd like to know is does anyone know how to root the new Donut release?
I've tried the Haykuro's rootmesigned but get a FC and constant reboot...it was worth a try
there is already a full solution for you.

I used it on mine and works perfectly, no flaws. Install that and you are done.
yeah there is a way. but im not going to answer because this is in the wrong section. read the stickies up top, search around, then post in the right section and maybe you will get more answers.

Aw gee thanks...NOT
If you don't have anything contructive to add then don't.
I spent hours searching and read through countless threads. For your info I have been installing ROMS since they came out in May (before the Wiki was in place), have contributed and would you believe it I have even been thanked for my help, I am comfortable with using ADB, Fastboot etc, am familiar with linux and have read the stickies.
Is asking about a rooted ROM not developement? Have YOU read the stickies because from what I have read, surprise surprise, in this section there is a sticky up above here about hacking and rooting. As far as I'm aware any developement focused questions would be posted in the developement section not general.
If I'm wrong them I'm quite happy to follow the MODS rules and their directions.
Are you going to repeat your post with questions about OTA updates being in the wrong section too?
P.S. the very helpful 'htcmagic' had already spoiled it for you
@BigRD: no problem mate, glad i could help. I installed the rom above and i am extremely happy with it. I have also installed busybox on it too.
Its much faster that vodafones original.
Hey mate, try Amon_Ra's Donut Rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=538645
Very fast and stable with Root and others. I'm using it on my vodafone magic. Works really nice.
Or alternatively just go back to Cyanogen. Its Donut and it has more features than any other rom on this site so...its all up to you
@widezu69 & @htcmagic Cool, thanks guys.
I spent a lot of time with Cyanogen's ROMs up until the Google thing happened and was running eViL's Hero ROMs up to v3.0. I wanted to get back to a smoothish stock ROM issued by my network supplier but rooted by one of the great developers on XDA. I keep finding that other than the Vodafone original and the Google ION ROM bluetooth audio for phone and multi media working at the same time is very hit or miss. Am going to give both versions posted here a try over the next few days
Another one who wants a Rooted Vodafone Donut
I am also searching for a method to root a stock Vodafone Magic 32B that has had an OTA Donut update.
The answers on the thread so far involve flashing a new Donut Rom - my issue is that I have Donut already, and have never rooted - I am assuming the Root instructions included in the Wiki and Relentless Rooter are only aimed at Cupcake.....or am I wrong?
Any help/advice appreciated....
rooting the magic 1.6
Hi folks, dito as above. I've been up half the night trying to work this out. Have recently bought an htc magic from vodafone, and been 'updated' to doughnut 1.6. Not bad, but I'm really keen to get root on this, and eventually install the latest rom from cyanogen...
Seems there are now a few issues for people like me wanting to root their handsets... so far I've managed to erase my user settings, but keep getting errors trying to flash a rom. Followed the link above to nk02's thread, and no luck. Same issue, update aborts. There must be an easier way...
nk02 says his ROM works with 'wipe + flash'. How the heck do I do that? Seems this latest update to 1.6 has made all the other methods of gaining root obsolete... I'm far from a linux novice, and would love some advice here. And please don't tell me to keep searching, solid help would be appreciated. Cheers.
Does anyone have an easy root or universal root for Cellular South htc hero if not can one be done? Would really appreciate it very much if possible. Thanks in advance.
First off you are in the wrong section as there is a Q&A section for things such as this.
Second, there is a nice thread that explains everything as well as linking you to all the necessary files that you need to download. That thread can be found here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=581869 . If you have any questions feel free to pm me as I check them frequently. Good luck to you, I have been on froyo 2.2 cyanogenmod 6 nightlies with my cell south hero, and i love it. So fast and none of the lag issues found on our stock 2.1 rom
Thanks for leading me in the right direction

can u please explain the nightlies to me or point me in the best direction to understand them. ive heard of them before and never know what they are. thanks in advanced
the nightlies are all of the updates to cm6 that are made throughout the day. To me these are more stable than the CM6.0.0 stable as lots of changes have been made between it's release and the latest nightlies. I take about fifteen mins every night hopping on and downloading the newest nightly. Sometimes the newest nightly is just a repeat of the night before but sometimes there are changes. All of these can be flashed over the last ones without wiping due to the same build. That way you can actually make settings one time and never have to worry about them after flashing a new nightly. I would also suggest downloading Decad3nce's BFS kernel and keep it updated as new releases are out. It must be flashed after each new nightly in order to remain in place.
Hardware is identical except that NS4G has the NFC and no flip keyboard.
I bet if you flash one of their ROMs and then Netarchy's kernel it'll work just fine.
What do you think?
No... dear lord... just no
I posted over at the Epic forum and they got ours to work on the Epic. But it doesn't just work out of the box. There are some things which need to be moded.

oh you guys are so smart with those comments
Can u post the rom for epic 4g. Ill do it
Uncle Jimmy says hello
No, it's not a matter of doing it. This was a question to someone who could answer it. Obviously the two you've seen were not technically oriented to be able to even have a guess.
The answer to this, if you follow the link I posted from the epic forum, is that some minor adjustments need to be made to the ROM it'self before it can be successfully flashed following with a kernel. If you don't, you'll get an error in the recovery or at best the phone will boot but not have all the functions.
So the guys from the Epic forum answered my question and they are happy I brought it up because they'll have a pure GB ROM on their phone with all the new stuff included.
Makes me wish I got the Epic. At least there, my questions would have been answered better.

wow first, they can boot a stock aosp rom because they have a .35 cm7 kernel, we on the other hand dont have a .32 kernel, or a .35 touchwiz kernel. and yes most of the rom.. should work (save for anything to do with radio) on the epic (again with the correct kernel) and most of the people there are happy because any thoughts of gingerbread give them giggles. they have a gb rom already, its cm7 and its halfway working, but it wont be because of teh nexus s 4g. its because they have some of teh best devs working on it. the reason why their rom wont work is because touchwiz is heavily integrated into it, we dont have the support for that (yet, who knows what someone may try to port over) prime example look at the sense rom and tell me how many of those things are working? the epic is as close to the nexus s 4g as it is to the motorola razr. they share the same radio and chipset and a few other random parts and pieces how the ril is used is completely different, how the gps is run is totally different.
how's that for an answer? if you wanna swap to the epic i know plenty of guys that are in the epic irc channel that would gladly trade with you.
Thank you. That was better than the other post.

i do what i can
Hey i have a few questions about buiilding your own rom for the Nexus S. I googled around and got directed to the hero forum for roms and stuff. I was wondering, where do i start if i want to get into rom development for the Nexus S? is their like a guide to start off with? im currently googling around right now, and posted here to see if any devs would point me to the right direction! thanks
There's some info on the epic 4g forums about building cm7 from source, some of that info may help. I know for sure you'll need alot of Java knowledge.

The Rom that i would like to learn to port is the Rom from Neobuddy, which is an ICS port to the vibrant! Can I get a Dev, or two or three to help me to learn to do this please? (RaverX3X, Whitehawkx, Krylon.......The Super Devs! lol)
Thank you in advance!

They're not going to use their time to teach you how to port if you don't already know the basics, they're all working on their own projects. My advice would be to learn how to do it yourself using Google. There are plenty of ROM porting guides out there, but porting ICS to this phone might be a little out of your league for now.
Wouldnt it be easier to port from an epic 4g aswell ?? i think its a more similar phone id start by just looking at any piece of info on porting thats out there
Check out this link and google the hell out of porting and find many guides like this one.. This one is well written from what i have read. http://www.freeyourandroid.com/guide/porting-android

This will help you with porting a vibrant ROM to the SGS4G, but I don't think it will be useful for ICS. From what I have read, we don't have a true ICS ROM (support) yet.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1099454&highlight=porting
Does the epic 4g have the 16gb internel sdcard like Cappy and Vibrant? Or is it formatted like the SGS4G and use the externel sdcard?
Im pretty sure its the closest thing to a SGS4g right now.. also for porting vibrant this was posted in our forums a long long time ago.. i don't think anyone has successfully used it yet.
