[Q] ??dualboot wp7/Android??? - Verizon Droid Charge

what are the chances that we will be able to dual boot these two? I was really in the mood to try out a windows phone 7 device but the only one available was the trophy and that phone was too small, and i was not going to switch a carrier just to get a new phone. i thought maybe it would be possible to dual boot them on the charge seeing how it is becoming possible on a few other devices now.
Or at least start of by being able to boot into two different roms for android without having to re-flash each one separately?

dont know if thats possible, doubt it though since WP7 isn't open source so developers just can't go grab code and just start with that.
however, if you want to try WP7, you can download the WP7 launcher. its called launcher 7 i believe

yeah i already have that and i like the way it looks it would be nice
if someone could make a windows look alike rom with that.

For those of you who want winmo on your G1 try this.

I looked up an article about a smartphone that runs on both windows mobile and andriod using a special bootloader called U-boot it is an open-source boot loader try getting this on the G1 then try to get windows mobile image or something on the g1 via this bootloader. the phone I am referencing this from is the Compulab exeda their article can be found here: http://i.gizmodo.com/5131507/compulab-exeda-a-stocky-phone-stuffed-full-of-features-and-oss
Use this bootloader then tell me how you will get windows mobile
wattt!!! so basically u saying hey i dnt know if this will work but kill your fone then tell me how it work out. Btw first the bootloader have to be ported to g1 hardware
ya that guy says here do this and let me know if it works . but if im reading this right a dual boot g1?
That's what it seems like. That could mean anything really... but it has an ethernet port! Can we say insta-router/modem? How odd and cool at the same time! But if it's truly a duel mode phone, WM on Android is just a tiny step away But then again... Since the phone itself is entirely different than the G1, how will it be ported? Just a bootloader isn't gonna do it. It will have to be modified completely. It's still better than trying to port from a TyTn or something else. U boot will have to support the G1's hardware or something extremely similar (a least a HTC phone). And the WM image could be gotten from anywhere but preferably from this phone, the exeda (may be the .nbf will leak sometime or it will get a downloadable update for WM).
LOL i meant dual boot as in the "linux" flavor for nokia i was thinking... sorry but as fast as android is advancing im ready to kiss WM goodbye. But sure people will either want to throw WM or possibly a dualboot on there g1's if it is possible
I've used u-boot on many different platforms... You guys have no idea what you're talking about. This isn't something you just "put" onto the G1... it would need to be written(ported) for the G1, bring up all the hardware, initialise RAM, etc... this would replace the SPL, not the OS, so you would also have to find a way to get u-boot to load wince (I've only used u-boot to boot linux, redboot is for wince).... this thread is like all the comments on the google apps store asking app developers to write flash for the browser...
I would love to get something like this, even wondered when they will come out with it. But I do think it will be something that will have to come on the phone, not as a 3rd party app. But I do hope HTC will bring out a hybrid like this. And a Ethernet port. Holy crap, I love that!!
i have a dream...
I have a dream that one day HTC will offer the drivers to the devices they sell.. that would make every developers live easier. If they released the drivers for all the hardware u could run any OS on the dream.
I would acctually pay for that

The problem is, HTC may or may not have the rights to release the code for those drivers, even if they wanted to. Many drivers come from hardware manufacturers (like Qualcomm, for example) and don't give clients like HTC the rights to distribute them except in binary form.
One day everything will be open-source. One day a carrier who advertises a phone as "open" will actually sell it as open, too.
I had my laptop dual boot with Slax and Win XP for about a week. I can't tell you how much I regret wasting the time to even set that up. Lets say you get the bootloader to work on the G1... Now tell me... what exactly are you going to use to control the capacitive touch screen and why? Can't we all just admit that Windows time is near its end and its only saving grace is to mimic what the open source communities are doing, or Apple if you want to refer to Windows 7... ick i say, ick.
True i am going to hijack this and wonder also why has no one looked into why we are only using 384mhz of the 528mhz that the processor can run at it was in another thread that no one commented on?

That's actually pretty slick. I wonder if a version will support tmo-usa's 3G band?

Which build are you trying to boot? is your device CDMA or GSM, make sure your using the proper build for your phone model e.g raph100,raph800,raph110 etc, tell us your device model and will help you from there.

hey~
i've been considering trying android on my fuze.....outta curiosity: how do i know what raphael version i have [100,800 etc.?]?
also can anyone tell me some about its functionality? would i always launch android from within windows mobile? is it stable?
~j
if you have a fuze then you have a raph110. you can see it behind the battery. its the same as the raph100 but the 110 has a radio capable of 3g in america. the 300 is verizon and the 800 is for all other cdma like sprint. they also remove the front camera on all carrier branded phones. as for android you can use the 100 or 110 builds it doesnt matter. it runs like crap. nothing but graphics work. so you can swoosh around on the home screen but not really anything else. no sound, bluetooth, phone, interenet, wifi or anything of any use. maybe in the future there will be a proper port. and it will always have to start it from wm since the boot loader wont boot to something else. i still find it amazing you can boot like that. i think in the future this could be one of the coolest phones since it will dual boot both os's.
jack o' clubs~
thanks for the info! ill probably just wait till they have a fully functional port then probably give it a whirl

[Q] Getting a samsung focus. How I do I get started with ROM'ing and homebrew?

Hi, a friend of mine upgraded his phone today (Samsung Focus) and got a Lumia 920. I've never used windows phone before and have always been an android user, but I'm getting frustrated to say the least with it, and there are alot of features on android that I simply don't need, and I need a smooth and stable new OS to tinker with. So my friend recommended I atleast give WP7 a try and I'm buying it from him tommorow. I'm extremely excited to try out this beautiful OS, and being the tinkering kind of person, I want to start messing with it as soon as I get my hands on it.
My question is, how do I get started? The phone is already on 7.8 and jailbroken, atleast according to my friend. I want to know what are the advantages of a ROM on windows phone, how do I install the ROM, how do I recover from any mishaps (bricks, etc.) and the sort.
Also, I eventually wanted to test out homebrew and all, but maybe it's just me, but WP7 doesn't seem to be very Mac friendly (and my only computer, a macbook can't upgrade to 10.7, which Zune is available for...). So anyway to install home-brew without the use of a computer?
Thanks for the help, guys! I can't wait!
For the homebrew thing, you could just dualboot windows and OS X? Than you can just use windows for windows phone. As for the other thing I don't think there are roms for the focus (it's a us version of the international omnia w right?)

It's the at&t one, unlocked, jailbroken and on 7.8...
So all the roms in the development section of the Focus are for the Omnia W??
as for dual booting, I guess I could, but I'd rather keep that as a last resort. Do I have no other option?
Don't know anything about macs so I don't know, just threw it out there as an option. And the focus has it's own section? Didn't know that, guess they should work then.

How do I go about flashing it...on a mac? Or do I need a windows? If so, how do I flash on windows?
Also, for the apps, I guess this Xap Handler program seems to do the trick without requiring a computer, how do I get that on my phone?
I'm sorry you'll have to wait for someone else for that. The only windows phone device that I have is the omnia W which doesn't have any custom roms as far as I know of (and I haven't felt the need either since 7.8 stock is good enough for me)
By the way on Linux my omnia W is recognized as any other USB device so I can just drag and drop files there. On windows you are forced to use zune. Maybe it works the same on mac as on Linux? Than that problem would be solved I guess.

Don't quote me on this but the only way I think you can fully brick a phone is by installing the wrong rev version rom..
Install CleanRom 3.10a here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1528984
If you have a Rom installed which supports apps to be installed from inside the browser you should be able to install apps without a PC.
I have to say Im 17 and I have bricked my phone atleast 3 times by messing with the registry and I UNBRICKED IT EVERYTIME AND IS STILL FULLY FUNCTIONAL up to this day. All you have to do is backup and reflash the ROM if the phone is bricked. THERE ARE 2 VERSIONS OF SAMSUNG FOCUS.. 1.3 AND 1.4 . FLASHING THE ROM FOR THE WRONG VERSION WILL CAUSE A PERMANENT BRICK FOR WHICH IT CANT BE RECOVERED..
Some Tips:
1. Before reflashing always have atleast 60% battery
2. Check your version of focus under the battery

My Atrix 2 is slowing way down lately.

Sorry the title was so annoying.
I've used my Atrix 2 quite a bit, has been in a Otter Box defender since the day I got it and worked fine. Now it seems to lag quite a bit, when typing I can type really fast but the feedback and characters appearing is lagged by a second or so, if that makes sense.
I sent a request to ATT to get it unlocked as I'm going to Brazil and don't want to get a new phone to go there on (don't want a good new phone stolen) but I was wondering if there was anyway to speed it up. If I turn it off and back on it seems to speed up for a while but the funny thing is after it has been on a while, no matter if I open apps or not, it slows down. Is it just dying?
Also, I run Linux Mint 15, is there any way to root my phone on my computer or do I just need to get a friend to do it on their PC/Mac?
EDIT: Wow, 74 views and no reply. Anyway, got my unlock code, I'll have to wait until I see my nephew next time though, he has a sim card from another carier that will fit my phone and I have to have a another carriers card in it to unlock it. Does anyone know if once it is unlocked if I can put my old ATT sim card in and be able to use it again or does 'unlocked' mean just configured for another carrier?

First - if you wanna quick reply when you'll need litle respect for others & not name thread dummish name like ,,Heeeelp I brikz foneeeee''. How I about showing little respect to others? PS. More letters in thread name will not lead to quicker answer it'll lead to thread be locked/deleted or abandomed.
Second - If your A2 slowed down, when I'll understand you, because it laggy stock motorola rom - which I always hate... It also LITLE lags on Razr. (You now that this roms was maded by motorola - which software performance is bad...)
Third - If you wanna get better performance - when you'll need to root it in Windows machine (search tutorial yourself), choose best custom rom like PAC, Paranoid, Mokee & etc. (it can also be from 5 try)...

I'll change the name right now, I wasn't doing it to add letters I was trying to sound like I was saying it slow, my bad.
I thought that was it. I don't have access to Windows as I don't use it but know a few people that do, more macs than windows for me but I guess I'll just use their computer. I'll look into those custom roms, my phone is on the point of not being usable right now. I'm still studying all this stuff really but I'm sure after I do this I'll catch up.

You can totally root using Linux. I do not own a windows machine either, and I have always used my ubuntu install to root my phone just fine. If you run linux, you should know how to connect your phone and use the SDK to connect to the phone via command line and know how to run a script I assume.... that is all you need to do to root your phone via linux, there is no one click, or exe, just a script and there are a few, and if you can't find one, then just run the same command that the windows batch files uses... that is how I rooted my first android phone, was by using the equivalent linux command and did it in the same order as the windows batch file... before I got here on the a2 form, no one used linux, now there are a number of us that do on here. just dig around there are plenty of ways to root your a2 with linux. If you really get stuck PM with all ther pertinent information and I will help you via PM, but ONLY after you have at least tried and failed a few times.

HTC W8 port for M8 possible?

http://www.theverge.com/2014/8/1/5960077/verizon-leaks-htc-one-m8-running-windows-phone
Now that the HTC W8 is pretty much confirmed for VZW and it looks to be the exact hardware as the M8 what do you think the chances of porting Windows Phone 8.1 over to the M8 for some awesome dual boot action?
Just saw the headline and was wondering this myself.. I can't imagine hardware differences just to run Windows Phone 8.1 ... Only time will tell!!

That would be cool. Im sure one of the great devs here will get that uo and running soon as a ruu is out for that phone
sent from my thumbs
I'd like to see it happen but I'm not sure they're compatible file systems. You can flash Android ROMs because they're mostly made up of the same stuff. Windows Phone would be completely different. I'm not sure though, but it seems like that's the first hurdle.
Followed closely by people realizing the only browser is Internet Explorer, your apps are only sorted alphabetically, you can't change the keyboard, there's nothing like root... I'm not knocking it and I'm even willing to try it, but I think it'll be about as popular with the root/ROM crowd as the iPhone, for the same reasons. But it is exciting that we might get to try it at all.
I would be interested to see this.
And now it's official with the exact same hardware - I would love to see this happen.
Can't wait for one of the devs to port it over. It is highly possible for it to work as the hardware is the same. S-off will probably be required for different firmware
Probably need to do a lot in order to get it running through an RUU. And bootloader will probably pose a problem, even if s-off'd.
