Thanks to a lead from soccer_dad, I have found that the Adam_GPS_fix can be installed MANUALLY and with a huge improvement in GPS.
The original files are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=959671
I have been obsessed with the GPS on Captivate and my old post tested GPS on a large variety of Froyo custom ROMs. IN MY OPINION, this fix gave me the best results on Froyo ever....but GB never came even close.
I USE NAVIGON, IGO8 and CoPilot 8 TO VERIFY THE GPS "QUALITY", and driving in NYC (a perfect test city !!!). So this is no Google Maps thing.
1. You need to use a Froyo based modem. True Gingerbread modems do not appear to work in my hands. I am using T959TLJL3. Again, Aries bases modems work much better in NYC, USA, ATT for me. See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=876391
This is a guess: I think GB modems look for the files elsewhere, while the file structure in the fix is a Froyo one and so Froyo modems can find it
2. Extract Adam_GPS_Fix to wherever you like. Open the folder and you should have these files.

}
3. I used RootExplorer. Change mount from R/o to R/W (read/write).
4. MAKE A COPY OF FILES IN THE FOLDERS BELOW FROM the GB ROM:
*** Copy and save and folder "gpsd" in system:bin:
*** Same with any files with names "gps.conf" and "jupiter.xml" in :system:etc
*** Same with file "libgps.so" in :system:lib:
5. Copy files as follows: (all files in respective folders). If folder does not exist just recreate by copying entire folder.
bin/gpsd ---->SYSTEM:bin:gpsd
etc/(2 files) ---->SYSTEM:etc: (copy and replace)
lib ---->SYSTEM:lib
5. Do not worry about META_INF.
6. Flash the Froyo modem.
7. reboot and check GPS. ( I have AngryGps).
RESULTS: From 4-5 satellites to 8 satellites with 6 constant lock.
** Navigon which would constantly drop GPS and 'recalculate' over a 30 mile route now stays fixed.
** CoPilot runs very smoothly and recalulates nicely.
** Interestingly, in Froyo Navigon was a super good gps lock, but in GB it is still not absolutely perfect. CoPilot with this fix is wotking much better. So clearly the GPS ability depends not just on what kind of "satellite locks" you get but also on the software that interprets this data. Please try one or two other GPS software programs before giving up on your GPS in any scenario !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope this helps someone, and input is welcome !!!!!!
My current config:
&& Apex 8.2
&& Talon 0.4.1
Thanks. I have been trying to do something like this, and I think this will help.

Hi All,
Having some issues with GPS fix and tried almost every app supposedly helping with it I decided to S-Off my DS and try different ROMs.
First flashed it with GB 2.3.5, went out, GPS Essentials was showing 2 max 3 satellites and no fix.
Tried latest MIUI - although there were some reported PGS issues with custom ROMs - mine seems to be working fine!
Has anyone experienced similar situation?
Just started to look into the problems with GPS with the DS from my girl. Where I have a fix with my Desire (root access) within seconds, the DS takes a lot of time (think in 10 minutes or more). Considering root accessing the DS to load a custom ROM. What ROM are you using?
Have you tried editing the gps.conf file found in /etc?
You will need a file editor that can edit system files such as this one and change the first line to:
NTP_SERVER=uk.pool.ntp.org
This solved my problems getting a decent GPS fix.
Peace
i have the same problem with gps
changing the ntp server doesn't help at all
tried updating a-gps data, also didn't help
any ideas?
Hi,
with this tweak : gps antenna tweak here is the result :
[edit]*The rom is the last miui from superKid

Sent from my HTC Desire S
try latest radio you can find like this one
then wipe cache and dalvik cache from recovery and check again with gps status
Here's what I did to fix my DS GPS
I also had GPS problems till couple of days ago. It took me a long time to get the first satellites (even after gps.conf changes), and after I got the satellites, I used to get very bad accuracy no matter what. Nothing like GPS Doctors & GPS Status helped, it was a bummer.
It got solved in two steps:
Step 1 - Update to the leaked modem + VoidU1.1a
Not sure if it was the new modem or the ROM, but I started getting the satellites really fast, but still had bad accuracy.
Step 2 - Removed my barely-there phone cover! The Barely there cover by Case Mate causes GPS issues. After removing it, I get more satellites (up to 9/10 instead of 5/6) and accuracy went back to normal of ~10m.
Enjoy,
gb
I have no GPS problems with GB 2.3.5.... did you made Full wipe before install??
By now, some you have seen reports about the latest bit of under-the-covers eavesdropping, this time by HtcLoggers.apk. In case you haven't, this post on Android Police details the whole thing pretty well.
One thing that really caught my attention was the graphic showing all the different ways various bits of Android snoop on you:

Those of us not running HTC software don't have to worry about most of these. The one that remains for all of us, at least according to the research so far, is Google Checkin, part of GoogleServicesFramework.apk. You can see in the graphic what kind of information Checkin collects and where it puts it. I've seen /data/system/dropbox before, occasionally I clear it out because it collects a huge number of files. I hadn't really paid much attention to /data/system/usagestats.
Using Root Explorer, I see that the permissions on both these directories is rwx------. As an experiment, to see if I can block whatever Checkin is collecting, I deleted their contents and then removed all permissions on these directories (and rebooted for good measure). I did this about an hour ago. So far, the directories have remained empty.
My G2 (running ILWT CM7 build 216) appears to be functioning normally, including the Market. If anything malfunctions, I'll report here.
Update. More directories to block: /data/anr, /data/tombstones, /data/dontpanic. File to block: /data/system/userbehavior.db (I first used SQLite Editor to empty the file).
Do not attempt this procedure on /data/system/throttle -- this caused my phone to enter a boot loop, which I had to repair by booting into recovery and then reverting my permissions change through ADB.
Quick follow-up... Looks like removing all permissions on the two directories has no effect on the phone's behavior. I've seen no breakage and the directories remain empty. So if you want to thwart some data collection, this looks like a decent approach.
So now that some time has passed, what is veridict? Were there any averse affects on the phone? Does everything still work?
Still seeing no problems. I did the same thing to my Nook Color, and it's also behaving normally.
This is very interesting, I'll try changing the permissions too.
Updated original post: added a few more directories to block based on additional information reported by the Carrier IQ Logging Test App.
I also gave this a try...
And so far so good! Thanks!
Hi all. Was wondering if anyone out there is having GPS issues on 4.0.3?
I did the update just before I left home to go to Indonesia and now I'm here the GPS won't get a lock particularly when using google maps. Says it has sattelites in range but even with 4 or 6 won't get a lock. However did manage to get a lock a couple of nights ago using SkEye astronomy program.
Any feedback appreciated.
I experienced the sameproblem with Nexus S locking on GPS days ago. Usually when I'm in Italy, I'm always connected to internet and GPS lock very fast, helped by the network.
But days Iago I went to London, with pre-cached map of the city and in 3 days the phone NEVER locked on the GPS system unless a wireless connection. All it said was "Trying to get current position..." and after a few seconds "Impossible to get the current position. Retry later".
While trying to get the position on googlemap in the status bar I noticed the empty GPS-circle never started to blink...
Exactly the same thing happened to my brother device (also a 4.0.3 Nexus S).
What worked for me.
So Im using the Galaxy s2.
Leaked ics.
Gps bug.
http://www.appbrain.com/app/gps-doctor/com.epekware.gpsdoctor
It said it worked and now maps finds me as does 'places'.
Facebook now gives me places nearby but still says not found.
I zoomed in on maps and its pretty much got me to within a few feet. So it has to be gps. Towers gets you w/in a few states. (jk)
I have the same issue. With ICS my phone can't get a GPS lock.
I'm back on GB though.
Ive been meaning to come and debunk my own thread.
False alert everyone. It doesnt work. When I was on wifi it took my info from there and 'injected' it. For whatever reason maps etc took that as well enough.
On 3g it would seem to only triangulate my position and get it right to within hundreds of yards.
However I hope that the thread helps developers develop a bug fix. I saw qbking post a new ics vid today so maybe the latest leak is gps corrected. Well see.
flash a stock GB rom, Pete's for instance. Lock on to GPS in Maps. I use GPS test from Market also and Clear and update GPS with app. Reboot, then Flash ICS rom and benefit
GPS Test worked for me
Thanks for that. I had the same issue after updating to ICS - Glympse couldn't find where I was, Maps wouldn't use GPS, etc.
I installed GPS Test by Chartcross Limited (I haven't posted enough to post links, so I've replaced the forward slashes with back slashes "https:\\play.google.com\store\apps\details?id=com.chartcross.gpstest&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5jaGFydGNyb3NzLmdwc3Rlc3QiXQ..").

All I had to do was to use the menu to get to Settings, and use the buttons at the top of the settings to Clear AGPS and Update AGPS (I don't know whether both of these were necessary), and everything started working. I didn't need to reboot.

Several days ago I was playing around with my gps.conf due to very very slow satellite locking issues. In doing so I mistakenly deleted my stock gps.conf. I then tried the numerous tweaked gps.conf out there, none worked. I then posted a request for a stock gps.conf so I could start at square one. I finally got one from Glevitan who pulled it out of his Inspire. The rest is (as they say) history.
Now, not only do I get sat. lock I get it in no less than 8 seconds. Plus I'm able to get locks in side certain houses which I could never get before! This should have been the same "stock" gps.conf that I deleted, but I never got 8 second locks. In fact I rarely got any locks. And I don't have to remove my case anymore!
Im not saying it will fix your issues, but it sure did it for me.
- Copy, paste, and save as "all files" gps.conf
- Place in folder: System/etc/
gps.conf:
NTP_SERVER=north-america.pool.ntp.org

Wow I tried this and it worked! It locked within seconds. Before I only got 1 or 2 Satellites, now I get 8.

Hello ladies and gents!
This is my first thread I've opened on here and it's the thread I've been looking for lol. Instead I figured this out myself. For the longest time I was straight bugged how crappy the graphics looked in Asphalt 7 for our phone, I mean it's got a pretty legit graphics chip and cpu in it!
So after about 8 hours of meddling, searching, editing, getting irked, getting not irked, meddling some more, I FINALLY got this config to work. Now what SHOULD work is the following:
Shadows on everything
Reflections on cars
Blur when full Nitro
Hi-Res Maps
High Quality Car Shaders (I think lol I put true so I dunno)
I Just ripped this from my game so it works as long as you bought it from the play store.
any questions, comments, concerns I'll be happy to assist anyone!

[EDIT] I ended up enabling the hi res maps because the game is so ugly without them. I've been playing the game constantly for a week now and I feel like my phone is adapting to the visual demand and it's a little smoother now. I dunno but it first was pretty bad. I know there are other settings I could disable to make it perfect, because i know without any of these settings enabled it runs 60fps
[DUBBLE EDDIT] Here are some instructions in case you need help!
"Here is what i did.
Copied the obb file to my desktop.
Then changed the file from .obb to .zip
Opened the zip file, file navigate until you find the device config folder
Open the device config folder and you will see the .xml file. Delete it.
Now copy the XML I put on here (unzip it) and put in the folder where you deleted the old XML file.
Save and apply. Close the zip file. Go back to the asphalt folder on your phone and delete the obb file and put the one you modified in its place.
Asphalt will want a 1MB download and you know it worked when you see your car reflection at the selection screen"
Can we get a picture comparison? I can provide you the stock if you need.
Shh! maybe I'm just paranoid, but I think people are listening....
Good point! lol I I'll post the pictures in my op. If you have any stock that'd be great, though I have no problem modifying my device config I have a pseudo one that I have notes on so I know what i edited and what I didn't.
i believe we should replace the xml file and not flash the zip, if so, can you give us the location of the xml file on the device?
Yes do not flash the zip!
The location is (under internal phone storage) android\obb\ (the folder with A7 in the name). Then look for the .obb file. Then change the .obb to .zip or open using 7zip. Then browse the folders for device config folder, open it and delete or overwrite the .XML file.
Impressive!

Bump for the great justice! This really makes this game not just look great but really stresses the gs3 to its limit.
