[ROM][July 20][WIP] MIUI Android Desire S - HTC Desire S

I'm new to this but here we go This is a port of the Desire HD Miui rom 1.7.15 with english patch. I'm using parts of superkids excellent Cyanogen rom to fix the hardware issues. It's a work in progress so don't get upset if things don't work.
So far from my testing these things work (your mileage may vary):
Camera (face camera not quite yet but main camera works nicely)
WIFI
GPS
Phone
Audio
Volume Keys
etc.
Not working:
Bluetooth
Sim contacts
Video playback
probably other stuff too
Installation instructions
Full wipe, install from recovery and then flash the excellent Unity V2 kernel from here. If overclocking is your thing, I use setcpu set to 245760 min, 1209600 max with smartass scaling.
The default kernel included won't enable WIFI so if you want it, flash the Unity kernel.
Try it out and see what you think. I'll try to look at fixing things as and when i get to them but bluetooth isn't going to be high on my priority list as I don't use it (but you're welcome to pull the rom apart and give it a whirl yourself!) I don't have a lot of time so if you want to try fixing things, please do as we'll all benefit

wifi can be worked if using MDJ V2 kernel
How about battery cost?
Can the phone sleep correctly?
Now all the MIUI roms have a battery drain because the phone sleeps incorrectly.

Is camera quailty good?
Edit : I looked in the forum for the MDJ v2 kernel couldn't find it can you post a link please

still wait'n for perfect MIUI rom...

No probs. Wifi not working is a ROM issue, I have that kernel flashed to my own custom ROM, wifi is fine.
Looking forward to seeing more MIUI development ... and some screenshots too

Thanks for letting us know. I was concerned that you might try this one and be unhappy with it. On a more serious note, this kind of post does not help anyone! Did you even download this rom to try it or are you just informing us that you won't be happy until a 100% working Miui rom falls into your lap. We'd all love a perfectly working Miui rom but it won't happen overnight!
You're in a development forum, by it's very nature, you're not going to ever see many 100% working roms, hence the development in the forum name.

+1
@belantara
you need to understand that the devs are doing this in their free time & are not asking for anything in return other than a little support
so if you have a negative comment why do you want to post it & discourage them??it isnt always easy finding the bugs & correcting them

Great
I find it great that there is a seperate thread for miui development now. Due to the fact that all the other miui roms are developed on extern sites.
I hope that more developers will start helping here.
I am not sure but why aren't working let's say miui-developers together to make a more stable, faster, and more complete rom. I meen we are a community here. Nobody has to fight against the others.
I've seen it for a long time in the HTC Hero forums, that developers try to beat each other instead of working together to make something great.
Like i can see here it's the same, yes sure it's difficult that someone works together with the chinese developers but it would be possilbe to work together with the guy from the english miui forum, who made a great version too?
After that it would be possilbe to ask some devs from other roms for help. i am sure no one will say oh no i fight this rom-war on my own. stop asking for help.
In fact the main idea of forums was the easy way to exchange information between persons from different countries, even with different languages. So they can work together and so they will be able to make better things. Like you can see it over at stackoverflow, someone has a question the other will help him.
why so much devs forget this fact?
--------------------
Oh and i am happy to see someone who tries his luck with cooking a rom
--------------------
If i had more time and some idea of cooking roms i would help you, but i think with my java knowledge i can't help that much.
Keep up your work it's great.

If anyone wants a detailed process of how to go about porting one rom from another I'd be happy to post it in here so more people can get on board and experimenting. My android hacking experience isn't great but I'm learning as I go (I have many years of linux experience which helps immensely). superkids work on the cyanogenmod rom is the reason I was able to bring a somewhat working Miui rom to the forum so big slaps on the back to him
I'll keep nibbling away at the issues and see what I can do but if anyone else wants to get involved, I'd be overjoyed. The more the merrier
Also, I've been in touch with superkid and he's happy with elements of his cyanogenmod rom being used to make Miui work. I've also been in contact with fusingblackrose on the Miuiandroid forums and his rom was my first port of call when starting off on this port so it's all good

I'm on this rom since yesterday night, what I can say for now is that it's a lil' bit slower than the 7.1.8 from fengbao wich I used for about a week.
I did not test the GPS yet, but there is an improvement in compatibility since the last release : the softkeys are now backlighted correctly.
I think all the issues we have are only about drivers, I am totally new at Android (only since AlpharevX release for Desire S) but as I'm intereested on it, I already know a lot about it, made tweaks and tested many roms, learned about the way it works in the inside.
I'd really appreciate you to post the process you are talking about, I still don't know how to edit roms, compile it and package it for a flash from recovery.
I'm sure I can help

Another release which bring absolutely no support from me because i don't have the phone atm and it's lewa...lol. Now, if any you guys are feeling like your bank accounts are just too full then hit the donate button to help me fund the remaining money to get the replacement phone lol
Download is on 2nd post, 3rd post will be for screenies/ whatever i want lol.
It's based on cm7-9b released by our awesome team acid and it's an i9000 port.
Thanks to:
Team Acid(Fb, m4xm4n, bhund)- they provided our cm7
Everyone helping on CM
Google - they bought out android and made it big
Lewa for OS lol
Instructions on how to flash, read or ill hit u lol
First place rom in root of sdcard.
The follow CM's instructions to flash their cm7
When you get to the point of flashing their CM flash lewa instead
and you'll be golden.
You will need to flash gapps with this as with cm
WARNING:
THIS IS AN MTD ROM WHICH MEANS FOLLOW THE CM INSTRUCTIONS
And..i ain't responsible for your ish, lol translation flash at your own risk. Damage to device is not my responsibility it's T-Mobile's lol -- this is a joke, as we all know (if ur new then you will know now lol) anything outside of the stock firmware we do to our phone is at one's own risk and failure to device will be your responsibility thank you for your time.
bugs:
adb not working.
bluetooth not working.
camcorder crapping out.
idk can't test lol
#2
First Build
Download:
Download from here....lol
and #3
This is LEWA
Again this is a WIP. It's gonna be a hard one too cause I can't figure out why ADB will not work with it. So if you like what you see and can deal with some things not working and know how to get on to MTD have fun. If you don't stay away. Oh and that first shot is a theme not what comes with the ROM. So yeah themes work. lol
[/COLOR]So is this a stable build as in an alpha or is it like a rc10 build of cm7
Oh no, another WIP... I'm sure some other member posted in General Section that he was going to port this after MiUI or CM were finished, maybe you should be working together? Anyway, I'm looking forward for screenies, I have never seen LewaOS and their page is in Chinese or something. Although, it seems to be like MiUI.
Keep up the development rolling. Thanks!

(ROM-AOSP) JoyOS Port- Joyous_EVOness_1.2 [Updated As Of 5/27/2012]

Hello all!
First and foremost thanks to blindndumb, kushdeck, and the creators of JoyOS. It's because of them that I was able to follow a guide and get this sucker started...
So thanks to blindndumb's awesome guide a noob like me was able to port JoyOS to our beloved EVO4G. This will be my first time performing any sort of port as I'm still in the beginner stages of it all... Given that any and all help (Knowledge) is welcomed and greatly appreciated!!
The base rom used is EVODecks 1.3 Stable (My daily driver and all time favorite)
It's sporting the stock cyanogen kernel 2.6.37.6-cyanogenmod-01509-g8913be8
So what works after 24hrs of testing:
Everything!!... Well sort of: Except 4g (Unable To Test) & some users are finding that 3g is unreliable
What doesn't work:
4g & 3g (case by case)....
Download the file from the link below...
Joyous_EVOness_1.1 (Flashable):
http://www.mediafire.com/?2v3esqu12t3xbn6
Joyous_EVOness_1.1 Changelog As Of 5/24/2012:
Using dsixda's android kitchen I zipaligned the apk's.
Joyous_EVOness_1.2 (Flashable):

Joyous_EVOness_1.2 Changelog As Of 5/27/2012:
Translated JOYClock app from chinese to english
Got rid of the chinese text on the JOYCalendar
Future Changes:
None. Rom will remain "as is" and everyone is more than welcomed to take it further, tweak it and fix anything that is bothering you. Just give proper credit where credit is due.
Mods:
I created a theme using UOT Kitchen that changes the status bar and notification dropdown. You can try it below:

Unable to test 4G as I live in the boondocks and sprints promises never materialized... And yes the base rom used is kushdecks EVODECKS 1.3 stable... on blindndumb's guide he recommends cyanogenmod7 but I opted for kushdecks...
Could you post up some screenshots?
See post #4.. I just uploaded them... Thanks for even taking a peek here... I'm humbled!

MIUIeD UP!
Anyone wanna give some feedback on this rom before I flash it?
Running good so far. Had issues with no data but enabled and disabled airplane mode and it seemed to clear it up. Flashed Mason G 0.14 and it is going smooth. Haven't had a hiccup. Music, Camera and messaging apps seem to be working good. Love how it has the iOS feel to it. Reminds me of when I had my iPod touch, but with the awesomeness of AOSP. I will keep messing with this for the remainder of the night and in to tomorrow to test out battery life. Gonna setup my CoD tweaks now.
Update: Sent MMS just fine. No issues so far except for the data not working after the phone boots up. Had it happen again after I restarted my phone. Also when a text is received, the screen does come on so its kinda cool. Never messed with JoyOS or heard of it so this is all new to me. Will try 4G later when I am in coverage area. Only 3G for me right now, but data speeds are fairly decent.
thanks for the update!!!

In OP it states that its based off Decks 1.3, so that's Gingerbread.
I'm liking the feel of this rom so far. Running v1.1 with Mason G v.14 kernel. Only problem I seem to be having is the data. I've tried enabling/disabling Airplane Mode, but a no go. Anyone else find a solution to this?

All is quiet on the development scene

I still don't have a development box to start developing so that first before the WIP since I would need to pull the whole CM build and compile it just to make this recovery. I don't think my good old vps is enough to do this kind of job and I'm not also considering to reformat my windows PC just for this.
I think it has been a pretty good summer for development on our MT4GS. We've got a nice crop of ICS roms to choose from, either AOSP or CM or several Sense flavors. It's a smorgasbord! :highfive:

Well Sun_Dream has worked on our phone with a bit of Sense roms if you dig that.
"HTC Doublshot ICS Bliss" sporting Sense 3.6: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1896643
and
"Doubleshot Android 4.0.4 Sense4.1+4A Base Ville_U_ICS_40_S_2.31.401.5": http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1832805
Both seem solid, didn't quite test them out as I'm digging XMC's Jellybean.
Should be a lot of development when Sense 4.5 comes out though I sense ports coming.

Still won't be that helpful to me since we got a crappy internet in our country. Pulling a whole CM build would take me like almost a day of non stop downloading to do that
Unlike on a vps I could just pull both cm7 & cm9 in 30minutes

I still don't have a development box to start developing so that first before the WIP since I would need to pull the whole CM build and compile it just to make this recovery. I don't think my good old vps is enough to do this kind of job and I'm not also considering to reformat my windows PC just for this.

Still won't be that helpful to me since we got a crappy internet in our country. Pulling a whole CM build would take me like almost a day of non stop downloading to do that

If it helps I could give you teamviewer access on a virtual machine on my PC to access its resources when I'm not using it. Its not the best available but I'm sure it can help.

Ok so where I'm at now. I have figured out I didn't need to use anything from the EVO Shift to get this LG launcher up and running. So its not a port anymore ( so it lost andromaus settings which were cool but caused wakelocks ), its more so a launcher replacement, all other cm9 functions work like they should. So right now I'm trying to figure out how to post it, and here are my posting options I can either
1. Just package all the launcher and widgets as a flash over for any CLEAN INSTALL OF AOSP/AOKP ( will need testers for AOKP ). And a certain set of gapps so the gallery don't get broken
Or
2. I can just pre package everything into a CM build ( gapps and all ) so nothing gets broken. Its your call here is a couple screen shots. And if anyone wants to give it a try just pm me ill get you a dropbox link

I don't know about other people, but personally I'd go with option 2. You will have a lot less bugs to deal with and give yourself more time to focus on improving it and adding features. I don't know what you think about that but that's what I'd go with

[Q] Why flash custom ROM on SK4G?

First, I am very new at rooting and customizing Android and appreciate any help understanding. Please don't take my questions wrong, the screenshots on these ROMS look amazing and I know more than a few tons of hours went into developing and testing, it really is that I am not comprehending the differences I'm finding.
Thanks to the help of the great tutorials here, my SK4G is now successfully rooted! I've been looking at ROMS now for a very long time and found I am really leaning towards Glorious Overdose v5 or neXus JB.
What I'm wondering though, is why would I go through the trouble and risk of flashing if it is essentially still running froyo? Since it's rooted, could I simply uninstall the junkware and use Holo or ADW for a similar effect and virtually no risk? Of course I do see the difference in the kernal version, but as I said I am new to this and it's just my guess that kernal is even a big difference maker.
I am very obviously missing something here, and though I am searching I'm not quite finding what it is I'm not understanding. Otherwise as the video stated when I signed up... I'm a noob...

Flashing a rom gives you more space / faster an more reliable
Glorious overdoes v5 is a bit buggy here an there an over all is the largest "rom" due to the aroma
I use nexus jb is slim fast reliable its really good the creator ric has made many roms each better then the last (theming wise) demkantor is really great dev only a few people here anymore an these two still make this phone amazing

Thanks for pointing out Overdose is buggy, I have that and nexus JB downloaded so perhaps I'll go with JB. Admittedly I'm a bit nervous to take that next step and flash. If I brick I have no backup phone, but it looks like the instructions here on this website are pretty clear and easy to follow. Plus, I'm a risk taker lol!
There are many reasons to flash a custom ROM, in addition to what Immortality said: you can flash one that looks and feels more like GingerBread, IceCreamSandwich, JellyBean, etc. You can pick one that isn't so bloated (although once you're rooted, you can pretty easily remove the bloat). I've tried a few, and here are my notes:
GOV33+LEAN-PERFORMANCE-RELEASE - Started out good, but over time SU stopped working, battery life degraded. Liked LauncherPro. Maybe it just needs to be reinstalled
neXus_JB_v1.2 - Colors hard to read (white on gray). Seems like too many unnecessary apps (live wallpapers, etc).
MeMoRy - Based on GOV3.3 Lean. Uses Lightning Launcher, which I didn't like at first, but it's very simple and presumably lightweight. However, the supplied Jelly Bean keyboard keeps crashing. I installed the ICS keyboard and removed the JB keyboard, and this is now the ROM I use.
Windxixi just posted about a new ROM that he says is based on GB and works: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42562471#post42562471. Might be worth following.

Thanks for your insight, very much appreciate it. I did see that GB post, looks really interesting. Once someone determines if it's actually upside down as in his pic or not I may just go with that one. Unless it really is upside down, that would seriously drive me nuts!

Sweet, definitely keeping my eyes open on that thread because I know for certain I cannot fix it! I haven't even had the guts to flash a new ROM yet or even delete bloatware, only froze it so far...
i like both gov2 and nexus jb.
both of them smooth like a charm

But I still wouldn't use it if this is your only phone. Keyboard does not work so you are stranded with a virtual keyboard. Battery life does not seem to be all that great. No buttons work on the actual phone except the power button, trackpad button, and the volume down button. The gyroscope does not work and I have not even set up my SIM on this so I don't know how it works with actual use.

Kernel Development

Development has begun! Find the new thread here!
Hey P9 users,
I see that you guys don't have much development going for you guys. How would y'all like it if I cooked up a kernel? Things I will need:
Patience because I don't have the device:
I will not add anything that could possibly brick your phone. All of my kernels are not like most that you see out there in the forums. It's more of an optimized kernel rather than a custom kernel.
Testers (follows suite with not actually having the device):
Self explanatory from above. There shouldn't be any problems, but if one does arise, I will need logs.
Hype and honesty:
Just kidding about the hype part, but the second part is what is really important. If you feel no difference after flashing the kernel, then let me know! I'd much rather you guys tell me it sucks instead of riding a bandwagon.
i would be pleased to test a optimized kernel!

Alrighty, got something fresh out the oven. Doesn't have much changed, except for the fact that it's compiled with Linaro 4.9 and has a lot of compiler optimizations. If this boots and runs fine, I will create a development thread.

If it does not boot, flash the stock kernel image or @paulobrien's updated kernel
Installation is the same as any other kernel:

You now have a new boot image (abyss-caf-huawei-p9-nightly-20160822.img). All that's left is to flash it to your device! Reboot to bootloader (either using 'adb reboot bootloader' or by powering on with volume down held).
Flash using 'fastboot flash boot abyss-caf-huawei-p9-nightly-20160822.img'
Then reboot using 'fastboot reboot'. Job done! In the About screen of settings you should see the date of the abyss-caf kernel and details of your my build machine.

Lovely, let's get stuff going! Would love to see more active development for the P9 (which agreed really are quite stagnant).
I working on something too, but it takes too much time.

Have to agree. It took a lot longer for me to set up this kernel for building. Very interesting, but I've got it under my control
I just need to know if this boots. If it does, I will start to overhaul it with more advanced changes
Care to tease us with some of your more Advanced stuff?
the problem is, what works with biglittle and what not. some snapdragon optimizing is not same as kirin. Im still in contact with zz for zzmove.
Maybe its easy to test and give u logcat?
Ty for taking your time, i really hope more developers will come. Im waiting on Cyanogenmod and a good kernel i hope yours will turn out great.
I miss having my HTC One X with root but for now i live with a stock huawei experience with Nova launcher and theme and i disabled many things with debloater.
I wish more developers would get their hands on it since the phone is cheap, i bought it for 2300kr = 275 dollars here in Denmark, and for 275 dollars you get a lot.

Depends what people are looking for . I am limited and slowed because I don't own the device, but it is possible to add hotplugs and governors easily. Features like KCAL control, double tap to wake, etc. can eventually be implemented with the help of you guys and logs.

Whether it is Kirin or Qualcomm really does not affect the what can go into the kernel as much as it would affect ROM optimizing. Certain CAF kernel patches that are supposedly specific for Snapdragon devices can also be implemented into kernels for other devices as well. The Snapdragon 652 is the closest non-kirin relative to Kirin 955, so porting patches from a 652 kernel would be best.

It is a hard device to get in North America. I think the Honor 8 is the first one to break grounds over here in the states (Canada is even more limited than the US so not even sure if I can find one here).
I think whole community would be thankful even for this topic. This is a fairly new device and would be lovely to see some development for it...

I think that is the easy part. Since the q&a part is the skipped part among other parts, it would be easier to find once you post in the development section
If I wouldn't buy the phone TODAY (yes I bought it today ) I would be gladly test it out but it is like a principle for me that I use the phone as it is for a couple of months.

That's a very good principle that I USE to have as well ! Enjoy your device while it still feels foreign to you! I hate how after I use the phone for a couple of months it feels old to me.
My current principle is to make sure things are stable before I post in development, so I will wait until I have confirmation that this boots first :fingers-crossed:

It's my first phone with 2.5 D display and it is blazing fast right now However I am addicted to flashing things and I am afraid I will touch my phone's virginity with this old addiction I will hold on to that principle as long as I can
However, it breaks my heart when I have a look to development section since ,as I told before, my rom addiction. I believe it can be (I mean your kernel) a little push for other developers to cook some roms
And for the last, It would be beyond perfect if you could port stockish android like CM or other roms

I will definitely need the device in order to build any AOSP roms, it's a nightmare without it. Also, I am a Linux developer (C based), and have limited knowledge in device tree bring up.
