Stock ROM is basically one that comes straight from HTC with no amendments and probably the one that your phone came with out of the box!

a stock rom is what initially came on your phone with no tweaks or changes to the files in it. so if you see a rom that says stock and it is a rom from here or somewhere else chances are it's the samething that came on the phone but it may have been rooted for you when you install it and they may have taken out bloatware like apps made just for that company or trials things like that hope i was of help.

Definitely helped me!

[Q] Where to get Original Stock Rom?

I recently change to Cyanogedmon 7 and di not like it. I will like to go back to my old sense interface that came with the phone . Do you have any idea where can I find the Stock Rom for my Inspire 4G? I bought it from EBay unlocked.

You haven't done much reading or searching yet huh...
Are you looking to unroot and go back to stock unrooted?
Or are you wanting to stay rooted and flash a sense rom?
Either way SEARCH the inspire development section and you can find your options.
Searching and reading is the xda way.

Ok...ummm....wow...I...wow...
Did you root this yourself or buy it this way? Sounds like you don't know much about it yet...no offense.
Those numbers you list are the radio you have. As far as rom no one can tell you the best. Its up to you. Everyone has their own preference. Try them out. But please....please read some more in these threads before doing so.

ok guys.. this is what I need Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) ROM version: 2.47.502.7 rooted or nor. I just need the stock rom
The Inspire stock roms were moved out of the developement section and are buried somewheres here in the general section. I think there was a plan to sticky them, but it never happened. Do a search of this general section.

Here is the rooted updated ATT Gingerbread ROM. Just place PD98 in root of SD card then go into bootloader and let it do its thing. When it ask to install volume up for yes. AGAIN AS ADVICED ABOVE " RESEARCH" before anything. Back up apps before you intall it will wipe phone and bring it to like if it were out of the box but rooted.

S4 (4.2.2) is it leaked to S3 ??

Hi All:
This is my first time here, I've been looking for a Rom for my S3 which can make it more similar to S4 with all its featuers.
I flashed many Rom and most of them has the 4.2.2 update but it has the nexus touch which I didnt like on my S3.
Any recommendations for a good Rom which is stable and have no issues..
Thanks in advance

The only answer I can give you is: Take a look in the developers forum. If you see something you like, try it. Maybe go for a rom with a stock (Samsung/TouchWiz) look, since that's what you're used to from the stock ROM. Actually, I'd start off by rooting your phone(you've already done that, since you've flashed a lot of ROMs), and remove all the bloatware you never use from stock ROM. Maybe replace a few of the stock apps with better alternatives. This makes the phone faster, and frees up memory.
You can also freeze apps, if you're not comfortable with removing them from the stock ROM. This thread discusses which apps are safe to freeze/remove. The OP links to this document showing a spreadsheet of apps that are safe/not safe to freeze/remove.
If you're not familiar with the term "freezing apps", you should do a forum search(or just Google) Titanium Backup. It's a feature LOADED (you guessed it...) backup-app, which allows you to freeze apps if you don't want to uninstall them completely. In short, it "disables" the app, removing it from the drawer, but keeping it installed. You can easily unfreeze the apps if you need them to work for you again.
Hope this helped you on you way. The world of custom ROMs is huge, so you're guaranteed to find somehing you like.

Kombian

Thanks a lot for all the information that you've shared with me, I am still not familiar with many things in rooting which I might need your help with that.
The first thing, what you guys mean by Stock Rom? does it mean the original android framework that was not modified yet?
2nd: how to remove all the bloatware? and what do you mean by bloatware?
3rd: is it bad for the handset to be flashed again and again with many different ROMs? I always follow the steps which the developers mention in flashing any new ROM, so is there any right ways to do that without damaging my phone?
for now these are all the doubts that I have about rooting, but I might come up with many points in the future,
I hope you guys can help me in getting more knowledge about it, and thanks a lot for your precious time that you are giving me
Thanks again

[Q] Bricked GS3 - Avoid Reccurence

Hello all!
This is my first post here and I thank all for comments in advance - they are very appreciated!
So I was very new to the aspect of rooting when I first got my Sprint GS3, but I read posts here and watched many tutorials on youtube and successfully rooted my device using Odin, then using Goomanager flashed CM 10.1 without a hitch. I had a custom kernel as well ( do not remember the name ), so when I updated my ROM I went hunting for new kernels as well. On an XDA (forgot the name/link) thread I found kernels compatible for CM 10.1, but when I flashed it my phone got bricked. No drivers found, won't boot into recovery or download, taking out and replacing battery wont work - not even an LED light. I said that I lost it and received a new one, but I was wondering why it got bricked (I have a bad gut feeling I did something as dumb as getting an international version kernel as I heard they would not be compatible?) And if there are links for a kernel for a stock firmware rooted GS3 - I have not seen one and I am nervous on finding more seeing as how I already bricked one phone. Thanks for the help!!! I just want to be more educated on this so I do not have to spend another 150$ in replacements. Thanks!

Just stick with the kernel provided in the rom you are using. The developer picked or made that kernel for a reason.

The reason that I wanted another kernel is since Cyanogemods stock one does not let me OC/UV and those are options that I would like to have

Only flash kernels that are in your device threads. Next time leave out what you did to get it replaced as that is fraud and not looked at well here.

Ok that is just dumb. Make sure you understand what your doing before you do. Remember the min you flashed a custom rom. You no longer have any warranty.

[Q] Going from Gingerbread 2.3.6 back to stock Froyo

First of all let me apologize in advance if this is a repeat thread or something which has been asked before.
Please help me with my query...
I have a samsung infuse and few months back i had updated it to Gingerbread 2.3.6 using Kies. I have never installed any custom ROM ever on this. I think GB has lots of issues and battery life is also not great. I know for a fact that this thing worked fine in Froyo so i want to go back to Froyo and then later sell off the phone. I still do not want to do any custom ROM and want to go back to Froyo only.
Can anyone please suggest me what all i will need to get and how to do it ? (ODIN ?)
I know this wonderful forum has all information but segregating what i want exactly is getting bit difficult and hence i am opening this thread.
Would sincerely appreciate any help i can get in this regard.

It is pretty safe. If you are worried, wait for other people to try it first
I had a Gnex for two years, running mostly AOKP. You can trust all of the recognized developers here at XDA. If you don't want to risk it, ALWAYS make an nandroid backup.
About the only time you may damage a device is by installing a ROM for a different device. As @justmpm mentioned, if you're having doubts about a particular ROM wait for someone else to post their findings to see then if you wish to try it or not.
Take your time and READ, READ, READ... That is the biggest mistake made around here. People see something they want and just jump in to it without doing any research or doing minimal research. There's in nothing wrong with being cautious.
make a nice backup and go on the safe side!

Hi there.
Yes it is safe as long as
1- You make complete backup
2- Follow proper guide to root and install your rom
3- If you are rookie. Try those roms that have already been tested and running smoothly by others.
Hope that will help you out
Of course bad things could happen also don't forget those same problems could occur with a factory OTA update.
Besides that you could end up with features on your device either gone or broken which I imagine could also happen with a factory rom.
None of them are 100% perfect and safe it is just something you have to accept and take measures before hand to be sure you have backups and/or find knowledge you need to bring your device back from the dead.
These are also all reasons NO ONE should EVER blindly start flashing things to their device without doing some reasearch which is where most problems come from.
Just inform yourself about what you are doing and a lot of things are pretty safe to do or try.
This is about the best advice that could be given I just realized I kinda took the long way around of saying mostly the same thing haha.

Well , If you flash a compatible ROM with your device correctly , nothing will go wrong !
but always take a nandroid backup just in case
the things that can harm your phone most of the time are just kernel related just don't overclock the CPU too much and do your best to avoid kernel tweaks
and every ROM on here has a list of bugs ! so using a custom ROM is totally safe BUT you need to check the bugs list before

No, there's no problem if you flash it properly.....
I have bricked my Gionee GN 100 with a custom rom from another brand but it was the same model. So, take extreme care. I'm also not sure how to fix it. I have some backups but I used only cat. Screen is totally black the phone is technically dead.

Sorry to scare you just giving you realistic info.
Basically flash nothing without researching what you are doing is the biggest point to be taken.
Pretty much what's already been said about making sure the rom is for your specific advice. Usually it's just a soft brick if you flash the wrong rom. The real damage comes using custom kernels the wrong way. i.e. overclocking the cpu/gpu too much. That can cause permanent hardware failure...
I hard briocked my galaxy s3 and had to send it out to to be Jtaged. It was my bad though, just be careful and double check your files prior to flashing. Have ODIN on your computer and be ready to reflash as stock image if you mess somehting up too
I have messed up flashing loads of times and even when I thought my phone(s) was gone for good, I always found a way to bring it back...even if it takes a few hours/days haha...

Odin doesn't work for all devices. Some OMAP devices like Galaxy Tab, your S3, and a few others.

you will be fine as long as you read and follow directions exactly as they are posted. There is always a possibility damage, but if you are careful, you will be fine.
