New to Charge coming from Fascinate - Verizon Droid Charge

I'm coming from the fascinate and will have a charge this Friday and have a few questions. How close is the charge to getting an aosp rom? My favorite rom on the fascinate was MIUI. Which rom would be my best choice on the charge? I like reliability and customization. Please don't flame me if I did something wrong in this post. Thank you for you replies

Welcome to the Charge forum. OMFGB is in the works. MIUI is probably a longshot as the Chinese Devs don't care about LTE as they don't have it yet. LTE will be the issue.
BTW you can't go wrong with GummyCharged.

Welcome, I, myself did the jump last week. Check the thread below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1107797
So far there is no AOSP rom at all. There are some in the works, like OMFGB, but it is no where near complete. But some of the TW roms listed above are very good. I find myself liking TW roms more and more now.

On the fascinate we had a guy named andmer that gave us MIUI and I don't think he was Chinese. I might be wrong though. And I heard about OMFGB coming to the charge but I wasn't sure how far they were with development. If somebody brought MIUI to the charge i could probably donate like $20 - $50 or more depending on how broke i am at the moment

[Q] Droid Charge Roms

I want to know if I will be able to use a Samsung Fascinate rom (MIUI) on my Droid Charge. I dont live in a 4g area, so if the 4g didn't work, i wouldn't miss anything. Does anyone have any good rom recommendations aside from GummyCharged 1.9 (which i just installed)?

no, you cannot use a fascinate rom on the charge, its not as simple as 4g just wont work
That's what I figured... I really hoped that it would since MIUI isn't out for the charge.
I highly recommend Humble ROM. Wait till Friday though for the update with many good fixes. Humble is the best ROM imo currently for the Charge.

miui on lte phones wont be that easy as the miui developers have said since there is no 4g in china currently they wont be building into miui releases...therefore it has to be built in by devs here, which is i would think a monumental task...so it might be 3g only for awhile...but idk
Well I saw on Miui.us forums that a dev just got the droid charge, so hopefully we will see a miui rom here soon

when the omgb guys get aosp working at some point miui can use that as a starting point...my point was just that official miui will have no lte support for the near future

everyone should try out various roms on their own and find out...i dont have a charge but from what i can gather gummycharged is the most polished and many of the other roms use its frameworks and apks...so that should tell you something
Im using Gummcharged GBE 1.5, and I'm happier with it than I was with CM7 on my OG Droid. Its smooth, fast, and everything works.
I was on the debloated gingerbread leak for a week, but I just can't stand TW. I like the look of AOSP better, even if theres still a little TW mixed in.
I dunno man, I am on the GB leak running Eclipse and the TW experience isn't too bad @ all... Infact, I really like it!

[Q} cyanogenmod?

Does anyone know if cyanogen will ever come to the charge? I've seen rumors and and some threads but nothing concrete
Development is for releases of ROMs/Kernels/Mods/etc not to start threads and ask questions. Also, I'm sure no one would mind if you started working on it yourself...

Since nobody wants to give you a straight up response, having been using a Fascinate from the beginning, based on that cycle, it is probably a year out if I had to guess. That's if people are actively working on it I suppose. We just now got it working well on the Fascinate...look at the Fascinate launch date, make a few assumptions, and do the math. Unless something huge happens I would expect it to be a long time, if ever. The one saving grace for this phone is probably its similarities to many other phones like the GalaxyS line and NexusS. Nobody knows when.
Likes the poster above me said, there's no definitive information. I'd say that's the worst thing about the Charge. Not the low RAM or the lack of official GB it's just not a huge scene. Look @ the Galaxy S2, not even released in the U.S. and it's already got Cyanogen. Kind of sad to see such a beautiful phone not getting the attention it deserves.
I'm not expecting much in the way of Charge development. I kind of knew when i got it as a replacement for the fascinate that it was a holdover till March (my 20 month upgrade eligibility). At least i got a better camera, front camera and LTE for real nice chatting video.

Galaxy S2 got Cyanogen first because Samsung sent a phone to one of the devs a few months back.
I love my Charge! Came from the Fascinate and had plenty of time to try out CM7. The GPS on the charge is lightning fast right out of the box, touchwiz camera and video player are by far the best available. CM7 definitely offers more control, but the TW camera alone is enough to make me stay.

While true, that should make everyone feel even worse about the dev scene for our phone (that the manufacturer cares enough to get dev for one of their phones but not the one we have).
That said, I've never had a phone with CM. I'm completely happy with the stuff put out by Danalo, Nitro, and I'm sure I'll like kejar's stuff whenever I try it out.

I can tell you when CM7 for the Fascinate got stable and MMS finally got fixed, o tried it out, and compared to all the other Touchwiz based roms, its ridiculously fast. The BML/MTD implementation is above and beyond any TW deodexed, debloated, voodoo ext4 type of rom. That's not to discredit those roms, but a stable CM build with a good kernel literally turned my Fascinate into a whole new device more than a year into its life.

Well gummycharged 2.0 is currently in the works and from the previews we've seen it looks pretty good. I don't know much about the other froyo ROMs and I haven't messed with GB yet. But development is still going strong for the charge.
The developer community for the Charge is likely smaller, so the number of available ROMs is lower compared to the Inc2. However, what is available is pretty good for being all based on the stock software. AOSP based ROMs will come in due time, but again, given the small developer community, it may take some time.
Darkslide charged is suppose to be coming soon! it will be GB.
Appreciate guys. I almost assumed it was a smaller Dev. community but that doesnt make it any less good to everyone, Everyone on the DINC2 forums were great, and im hoping to join this. Im no Dev, but i still would like to give something back to help anyone out there as best as i can

Yeah the gummycharged roms are very solid. 2.0 will be amazing. 1.9rc2.3 is a gingy build and is already rock solid.
AOSP will be great once we get it. I heard it is partially samsung's fault for making their phones so hard to port from one to another or we would have had it a long time ago with the dev community on the fascinate.
As long as kejar doesn't go anywhere, we will be good lol. He is a mastermind.

[Q] coming from Nexus S... what rom to flash?

What's up? I just switched from Tmobile to Verzion. While on Tmobile, i was using a Nexus S. While i like Verizon more than t mobile coming from the nexus to a charge must be hard to get used to. I'm not saying the charge is a bad phone at all but it damn sure isn't a nexus.
That being said...
A. Wrong forum
B. Don't worry. We should have cm7/omfgb in the coming month or so(hopefully)
C. Go with humblecomb or the new ep1w humble. Haven't tested it yet but i have loved all 3 or 4 humble roms i have tried. Currently running the newest humblecomb and it is smooth, has great battery, and looks real purty.

Basically the current choices you have for the latest GB (EP1W-based) ROMs are:
1) TW4 Themed EP1W
2) Humble 3.1 Gingerbread
3) GummyCharged GBE 2.0RC1.5
4) DarkCharge TQ
in no particular order. They each have their positives/negatives. Do the research and keep in mind YMMV..
You can find the latest stock GB here

If you are wanting a feel like your Nexus S then you definitely want to go with GummyCharged GBE 2.0 RC1.3. It has little issues(actually none that I have seen since flashing it) and is blazing fast. It is stock Android Gingerbread with a few touches of TW in certain apps. Give it a try, you'll like it.

A recommendation from me to try it.

[Q] Help choosing ICS ROM for Skyrocket

Hello all,
Wondering if you guys can help me decide whether to flash an ICS ROM or not?
I have my Skyrocket tweaked and set up perfectly. It contains...
Version: 2.3.5 (refuse to upgrade to 2.3.6 due to many issues I see some are having)
Kernel: 2.6.35.11+ (excellent "stock-ish" ROM from romracer)
Launcher: Go Launcher EX
Phone is rooted and like to use CWM.
With that said, I'm wondering what is the best option to try? My main concern is obviously performance and battery life. I have spectacular battery life right now and don't want to lose it by flashing an ICS ROM.
Perhaps something that will work with the romracer kernel? For example, something that would still allow me to use CWM and MUST also support boot animations and BLN support. That is a must for me, as I use it to tweak my battery life quite a bit.
Anyways,
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

If you decide that you can live without the BLN and overclocking then make a nandroid and give smooth ice a try, skyics is also good I hear.
I've tried smooth ice for like a month almost and it is really stable and the battery was good too.

If you do not have the heart for glitches, ICS may not serve you well. There is no real benefit that I can see unless you are a hardcore phone tweaker. I am always debating whether to just go back to stock GB myself !!!
BUT if you really have the itch, the safest is mhx's full bloat stock. I used that for a long time, and it is very - relatively- stable.
here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1570498&highlight=full+bloat
My 4 cents....
Close eyes. Now say eni mini miny Moe! Just flash them all. U could use the experience and see everyone's roms instead of asking.... hrllo

you gotta wait till kernel source is released before you'll have bln and oc but maybe try smooth ice if you want touchwiz but id try cm7 if you haven't or cm9 its all alpha buy lots have used it as a daily driver... I just hate touchwiz
CM9 Skyrocket
Thanks...
Thank you all for the feedback.
This is what I though! lol
I will stick with GB for now. I get amazing battery life, is extremely stable and love all the extra features after tweaking.
Was just curious....
Thanks again,

Battery Life & Stability
Thanks to the OP for this thread. I'm in a similar boat, but am just looking for the most stable custom ROM with the longest battery life. Coming from rooted Gingerbread, I've setup my ICS exactly the same (debloated and lean), and my time between charges was cut by 1/3 at least.
From my limited research, the CM9 Beta 1 ROM sounds to have excellent battery life and great stability. However, I'm open to suggestions! One question I have though, is I keep hearing folks talk about "nightlies". That that mean it requires nightly updating? Thanks in advance.
I've been using PTSD's AOKP ICS ROM and I love it. I've mixed that with InstigatorX's Kernel and my battery life is amazing. I'm an Android noob, but I'm digging this setup.

the word nightly means that it's scheduled to auto build a new version with any fixes made during the day... It wont auto update your Rom though you have to manually install it
It is a very easy process though. you download the new nightly and reboot to recovery: wipe system and wipe cache then install, wipe dalvik and fix permissions and reboot if you installed any mods like inverted apps or gps fix or dpi changes they need to also be addresses after the first boot
Because i don't like setting it up all the time i just install the new nightly weekly
CM9 Skyrocket
I actually *just* restored to Gingerbread today, after months of using Cyanogenmod 9's official and nightly releases, as well as the InstigatorX kernels.
My battery life was okay, but for all the extra bells and whistles, they seem to get the basics wrong, unfortunately :/ I still couldn't send texts larger than 160 characters without splitting them up, and they'd always arrive out of order, or not at all. Other apps wouldn't behave properly either, and my mobile network connection seemed to change/drop just from looking at it.
So CM9 looked promising, but still has a ways to go, and it's rated as one of the better ROMs for this phone. I didn't even want to try CM10, because their bug list is still bigger than CM9.
Can I ask where you got your romracer kernel? I'll have to give that a try. Also I'm looking to replace the current radio with something better.
I had to rebuild from scratch because somehow my gingerbread backup was corrupted. I used Bonestocketeer's ROM ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357274 ) and the only issue I've had with it is I can't change the LTE/HSPA/GSM setting in Mobile Networks to just HSPA/GSM. I was able to with my original ROM, and that seemed to help battery life.
Thanks again for your post!

At least tell him why. You report hounds are all the same.
To OP, james has reported you because the title and nature of this thread suggests asking which rom is the best, which is prohibited in this forum because "which x is best" threads can usually promote flaming and whatnot. It's like asking who likes the Yankees, and then fans of other teams riot about how their team is the best.
This comes as a surprise as I see you've been a member for a while. Assuming that other forums have similar rules to the SR forum.

My recommendation would be NexusMod, then. It features the proprietary performance tweaks available in the TouchWiz ROMs, so it's faster than Cyanogenmod, but it has a lot of theming that makes it look and feel closer to AOSP. There are still some ugly elements of TouchWiz that exist, but it's a big improvement over a lot of the other TouchWiz-based ROMs.
For sure, CM9 has more features and tweaking options, and a more consistent AOSP look to it, but it's slower than NexusMod and still has some very minor bugs. It does, perhaps, offer you a few more options in how to save battery, though.
I have to say, though ICS is a massive improvement over GB and we have stable, mature ICS ROMs available. I would strongly advise upgrading, but if you're concerned about bugs, stick with a light TW-based rom like NexusMod.
