[Q] Help!!!! With Samsung galaxy s ROM - General Questions and Answers

Hello, i've been looking around the web for information about flashing the Galaxy S, and i've ended up here!
There seems to be a lot of custom ROMs for the Galaxy S, and i have no idea which versions work.
i was wondering how the naming of different firmware works.
my baseband version is i9000HVJP3 and im on froyo 2.2.
Is there a specific rom i can only flash to?
my phone is unlocked and i have a vodafone stuff on it.
i've rooted my GS and am looking for the best ways to make my phone a bit faster.
thanks for any suggestions! i'd be greatly appreciated for any help. if there are already threads answering this question, i'll certainly take a look at them. =)

If you have the Fascinate, there are TONS of ROMs. And alot of good ones too!! Try going to the Fascinate Forums. Are you using Odin to do your flashing with?

just read through the threads before flashing the rom to see what kind of feedback people give the rom... my 2cents

When I decided to flash new roms, I started with stock 2.3x in order to get some point of view of the new features(?) speed etc.
Then started to flash custom roms in order to compare with my previous findings.
Attention: When you start flash... you never stop!

Hello I'm scared to flash because incase I brick but i have pda i9000hvp4 with vodafone and i cant find the firmware so I can flash back to the original can anyone pretty please help me??? I

[Q] Flashing 2.3.5 on galaxy s2

Hey guys! I need some help from the community.
I want to flash 2.3.5 firmware on my s2, but I have a few questions... I live in Austria and I am on Tmobile. I flashed a 2.3.4 on it, so I partially de-branded the phone. However, I would like to flash 2.3.5 but it is not yet released for austria. I see there is a Polish version, but can I flash that to mine? If I do, will I lose network settings? Can someone give me a short guide on how to do this? I am confused on what does the CSC file do? Can I just flash the PDA, and the PHONE, without flashing CSC?
Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Mick
Get yourself the frankenstein version from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Choose one that will be "non-wipe" and follow normal odin flash instructions, flashing pda only.
thank you man I think I'm just gonna wait for android icecream sandwich to come out... this is not worth upgrading...

[Q] Different region releases of "official" Samsung Galaxy S2 ICS firmware?

What are the differences between the different regional versions of ICS? Is it just languages and bloat-ware, or is there more to it than that?
You know, like modem and phone might operate with different tel-co and country specific standards????
I am in Australia but have the stock ROM of the latest international version ICS LPQ flashed to my SGS2 i9100 though Odin.
I was just wanting to know if there was any advantage of flashing the Australian version of ICS LPQ when it is finally released here. (however long that will take?)
I recon my tel-co (Telstra AKA: Hellstra) will take 3-6 months if the last GB update was anything to go by. hehe.
I'm sure there are plenty of others with similar questions.
Appreciate an anwer please, as I have been trawling the forums and can't find anything.
Cheers

Need help flashing ND8 firmware.

I was looking at how-to's for flashing a custom ROM onto my new phone (which I rooted with TowelRoot), and it said you need ND8 firmware to flash an ND8 ROM. However, I can't find this anywhere. Can someone help me out? I'm looking to flash LiquidSmooth, eventually, not for any particular reason other than I don't really like the default and it was recommended to me.

Unless it's a typo, the Sprint Galaxy S5 does not have an ND8 version. Also, AFAIK, there isn't a LiquidSmooth rom for the Sprint S5 either. You posted over on MOAR, so I'm sure with a little more information on what you've done so far (and more reading on your part), we'll get you up and running.

Yeah, I realized after I posted this that I was still in Galaxy S3 mode and that it's probably different for S5. I've done as much reading as I could find, but it didn't really help me too much. A lot of terminology that I didn't understand.
This thread can be closed, if'n that would please the people.

[Q] [S6 Edge] SM-G295W8 root and roms?

Hi, sorry for posting a thread that's likely already been answered, I tried looking through the forums and I'm lost. I used to be really into the custom ROM scene and whatnot back in the galaxy S2, but haven't really been at it in a while.
So I bought my fancy new S6 Edge G295W8, and I'm looking at how I can go about safely rooting it. I checked CF-root but I didn't see my model number, it seems like samsung's adding in more and more model variations every generation. I'm also on a carrier that isn't mentioned specifically under the S6 forums, so that adds to the confusion. So what's a good and safe root to use? I'm still familiar with odin and flashing as pda and whatnot, so I won't need a tutorial on that, just a good starting point at a thread with a root that'll work for me.
And another minor question, any good ROM recommendations? How's the cyanogenmod support for my model? Are there any good clean roms with the edge features still intact?
Thanks in advance for your help, much appreciated.

So I'm rooted with a USCC Galaxy S6... ROM Compatibility?

1. TWRP is up
2. Stock 5.1.1 with baseband G920R4TYU2BOF7/HW version G9020R4.02
3. Kernel name: 3.10.61-V-Kernel+
4. No Mods
5. Rooted
Last time, I did any rooting and flashing was the original Galaxy S Mesmerize for USCC... Been using that trusty phone up until 2 days ago. I finally broke down and upgraded after 5+ years! So I'm a bit rusty on this kind of stuff.
I know when I was flashing with the Mez, I had to make sure that I used carrier-specific ROMs since there were subtleties in hardware and so on. I was wondering which of the Custom ROMs in the pinned thread in the general section of this forum were compatible with a US Cellular Galaxy S6 with the specs I listed. Here is the link to the thread I'm speaking of. Also, any hints, clues, thing to look for etc etc in determining if a ROM is compatible would be awesome.

Once again, thank you guys for all that you do.
Edit: Somewhat off-topic... OTA update keeps wanting to come through. Will OTA update undo root?
