Want extra battery life? Simple answer is to buy a spare battery!

I spent days, even months trying to make my battery last longer and looking for portable chargers to carry around with me just incase I needed it.
I then realised I should just buy another battery, I have no idea why I had never thought of this before.
So a few months ago I purchased a refurbished genuine battery from eBay for only £4. The only problem now was the trouble of keeping one battery charged while using another. I then found a desktop charger which can charge the battery without the phone (link below)

It will automatically stop charging the battery when full, but will still consume alot of electricity if left plugged in.
I've been using this method for about 6 months now with no problems whatsoever.
Now whenever my battery goes dead whilst I'm out, I just simple switch batteries and I have full charge again. It takes 2 minutes to swap batteries, no trouble at all, and a battery isn't too big to carry around, I keep mine in my back pocket or in my wallet.

People want to have ONE piece.
They want to be able to charge the phone when it needs to be charged, but they don't want to look at the percentage every five minutes and fear that the battery will be dead after a day.
Thus they want a battery with more juice.
A lot of people have skins for their phones to protect it and keep the resell value high. Those people might even consider to buy a powerskin which would give them an extra 1500mAh (at a price of course, but that's price vs. convenience).
Others know how to preserve their preciously mAhs.
Normally the phone should drain your battery by 1% to 1.5% every hour. That means it can run in standby and wait for calls and texts for up to 4 days.
Since you normally use the phone at least a bit, you should be able to keep it running on one charge for two days.
The last resort is to keep multiple batteries.
It can happen that you forget the spare. It can happen that you forget to charge the spare. It can happen that it's just not possible to swap batteries because you are standing outside in the dark.

I prefer to carry a spare. Takes only a couple of hours to charge, and I always put it in my wallet straight after its charged. It's the cheapest option and imo its the best option. Better than a big bulky cover with a battery inside it that also costs a bomb.

I want one battery too.
I bought mugen power 1500 mAh. It's better, but still not for all day heavy use...
So i order htc Evo 3d with 3600 extended mugen power battery with spare cover.

The external charger thing is awesome. I always have a fresh battery available. Super cheap too. I have 4 batteries, enough to leave one at work, in the car, and at home.

It does seem the easiest and the cheapest option. I tried larger batteries and portable chargers, but none of them would make the battery last as long as I needed it to.
But now having a spare battery with a desktop charger is the best option for me, it cost me less than £10 for the genuine battery and desktop charger, and all I have to do when my battery is dying, is simply replace the battery. Less than 2 minutes later I have full charge. It's not hard, and it's not expensive, I just don't understand why people chose very expensive, and less effective options when this seems the most effective as it's twice as much juice, and it's the cheapest option too, extremely cheap.
The only downside is if you forget to take the spare battery out with you, but I got used to putting it in my wallet or my jeans pocket straight after it has charged. Some people say it's a stupid option because you may forget to take it out with you, but I could argue saying people with portable chargers could forget to take them out with them too. The way I see it is, you get so used to not forgetting to take your phone out with you, everyone checks to make sure they have their phone with them before they go out, and after a week or 2 you finally get used to taking the battery out too. When I first got the spare battery I did sometimes forget to take it out with me, but after a week I got use to checking I had the battery with me, as well as the phone.

I bought a portable charger for £24 from Amazon, and it's proved really handy for me. It's a 7000mah Tecknet and can charge two devices at once as comes with loads of adapters. Although the spare battery is a good solution it's only a solution for that one device. A portable charger will also charge your back up or 2nd phone, mp3 player, and any other phone you buy in the future. It is as big as the phone so it's easily pocketable. I've considered carrying it in my boxers just to see the look on peoples faces when I unzip my jeans and plug my phone into my crotch. I've also been meaning to test exactly how many charges it does but it's at least 3.

Yes, they are brilliant, I must admit. But spare battery is good for cheaper option. I did buy one of those portable chargers but it stopped working within 2 weeks so I didn't bother with another.
P.S. The thing about your crotch is kinda weird

I've got a NewTrent 5000mAh power pack, and it's good for - about - 3 charges. Not easy to be precise about that, since no accumulator maintains and returns 100% of its capacity, but 5000mAh is more than enough.
I use it for mountainbiking when I want to record a track and also communicate my position for 4-7 hours, without having to stop, lose a few minutes and change batteries.
Different solutions will be valid for different needs, but this is easy to charge and easy to use.
And it cost me about €20 off Amazon, which is a lot less than an OEM/Mugen battery.

The only battery that will increase capacity is the Mugen 1500mAh battery. There are a couple of threads already in this forum on this battery.
All the ebay batteries offering the world are, let's say, misleading the consumers.

The Mugen battery are less reliable, also even if its 1500mAh, it may discharge much quicker than our original battery.

How can it have more mAh than the original if it discharges quicker?
Maybe you should think about that for a bit.

Mugen battery has higher capacity!
and for my case, it lasts longer then stock batt.

Has anybody found a battery case that works?

I looked all over eBay and all I see are cases for the international HOX and I really want to be able to have one that works for our phone. I remember mugen mentioning that they would have one out already, but they said that over a month ago. Are companies not making it because HTC's sales in the recent quarter was extremely low compared to the projected numbers? If anybody has found one please let me know I love everything about this phone but I hate lugging around a charger, and I don't always have access or the time to plug it in.
PS I don't want to hear anybody come in and say they get 4 hours of screen time blah blah blah on whatever mods they do. That's great, but 4 hours of screen time equals about 6 hours of total usage which is only half the day for me. I'm a college student and I do a lot on my phone whether it be in class taking notes, or on conference calls.
And I'm not complaining about the phone, just lack of this particular accessory. I believe this is a damn near perfect phone I just want the juice to make it even more perfect!

There's no battery cases that are either good or work for the S4 variant as the pins are placed differently.
There are however external battery packs that are relatively small and provide a punch. Had one for the Sammy Vibrant and was super easy to hide in back pack, as you are a college student.

Haven't fully tested, but judging by the MaH, I would expect to be able to charge it two or three times over at least.

Actually judging by the mah I'd say it would charge it around 4 times.
10,000/1,800 is a little more than 5 so its safe to assume 4 times over.

These external chargers actually lose quite a bit of power in translation... I think I remember reading it's a 35% loss but don't remember exactly, so that 10000 mah is really more like 6500 for the phone (somewhere along those lines, anyways).

well, it all depends on what your after. are you looking to charge your phone by using this thing in the sun? in which case forget it. while the capacity is there, the PV panel that is on there wont charge the battery it's attached to for about 4 days in bright sunshine, it's simply not big enough.
if you're looking for just a portable battery to plug your phone into, then ok, it should do something like 3 full charges of an empty phone battery, before you have to plug it into usb to charge it up again
if you're looking to charge your phone only by using the sun (like going camping or something) have a look at this instead

Very nice!

I got a Primo portabable charger....it can charge the phone up from almost flat to full charge in 1.5hrs....which is the same as a wall output...and it can charge the DHD up to almost 7x before I need to recharge the charger.

is there a link for that primo battery?

Got a similar pack as relation gift. It is stated to be fully recharged on sunlight in 6-hours with full (summer) sunlight. In reality, it will probably be closer to 2 days to get a proper refill. Anyway, with some 3000-4000maH on board is is a nice emergency battery solution to have in your bag. Mine can be charged by normal electricity as well.

I have a quick question that google coudln't solve.
1. what does the information inside the battery compartment mean? (Wattage, rating, etc.)
2. If 2 phones have the same rating and use the same charger, why does one charge significantly faster than the other?
3. |EXTRA CREDIT| Is there anyway to hack a phone/battery to stay powered on beyond the default voltage?

1. They're the ratings of the power supply (battery) the phone needs to operate. It needs that voltage to operate and the phone will draw that amount of current.
2. It could be anything from different battery capacities (if you're talking two different phone models, look for mAh on the batteries) to one phone doing more in the background than the other to minor manufacturing variations.
3. I don't understand what you mean by this question. I guess you're talking about how to get more battery life out of the phone? Google should help with that, you're probably just not wording the question properly.

@vincom @member thanks for the responses. and the 3rd was about the modding a phone/battery/kernel to utilize virtually the whole battery instead of shutting off at the usual voltage rating for the phone model.

Volt and mAh. You're probably talking about mAh.
I can't say I know, but, I think that roms such as CM will usually eat up all of the battery if you let it.
Also it's bad for these kind of batteries to be fully emptied. It decreases their volume so that every time you fully empty this battery it will charge a little bit less energy when recharged. It's better to leave a little bit of energy (like 5%). :good:

Honestly at the rate most people switch phones and being the owner of a phone with a removable battery, As long as I'm getting the longest battery life that all that matter's thanks to companies like anker. also I understand your point though.

I don't get your point.
Do you mean that these phones are just throwaway devices like those red plastic liquor cups so you might as well squeeze all the juice out of it whil you're at it?
I've had my Skyrocket for a year now and I bought it used too. I'm going to keep it until it f**king dies from natural causes.
Not because I have to, but because I realized that I don't need a phone with an ultra HD display, an octa-core CPU and 8 gigs of ram.
It's past ridiculous now, now it's just redundant. The peak of the smartphone as we know it has come an end, see how the difference between the S3 and the S4 is not as big as it was between the S2 and the S3? Same thing with Iphone5 and 5S.
It's because there's no point. We don't need that much power in our phones. We don't even notice the difference in performance.
They have to come up with totally new stuff for the hype to rise again. They're going to drag it out though. Because you know, money.
There are some interesting ideas that are being held back on purpose, like the smartphone-dock that turns it into a PC. Do you see Apple / Samsung selling these docks? Of cource not. Because without it they can sell the same thing twice: as two separate devices.
Or how the software is made in a specifc manner that it makes your phone seem slow.. and it makes you want to buy an new and "better" phone. Really, software nowadays is like there's no such thing as optimization.

yeah i know about the mAh but voltage determines the cut off when the shut down happens.

what about any charger? I want one that is gonna fill my battery as fast as possible! Can't be waitin' 3+ hours to charge my phone. My current charger is rated at 5 volts .7 mAh. I NEED a faster charger in my life.

Don't know, I know that it charges faster when turned off.

That charger most likely will cause a wakelock. I've had similiar charges and they all caused wakelocks. Best bet....use the original charger the phone came with.

Just speaking from expierience. I've had alot of similiar chargers..just all of them did cause wakelocks. I can't say this one will for sure...but i'd rather test a proven product than flip a coin. The original charger the Skyrocket comes with works good. A duel usb At&t branded also works good for me.

thanks but the original charger charges super slow! if you read above it takes a really long time for me. also wakelock would be worth faster charging. plus I can remove those easy

External Battery Charger (High Capacity) - Info Needed!

Hey one and all,
Now I know there are already a few threads with some external battery chargers but a few are quite outdated and it's quite a pain looking through them all so I've been a little lazy and started this new thread.
Basically im currently using the ZeroLemon 7500 extended battery, which with my heavy usage lasts 2 days which is fine by me. I am now starting to get bored with my mini brick and would like to downsize to a 3000mAh battery so as to be able to use stock sized cases, but invest in a high capacity external battery charger. Something in the range of 12000mAh or thereabouts.
Ive searched amazon and google and seen countless brands and sizes and some with extra functions like wifi file transfer / wifi hotspot / sdcard reader etc. My main interest is for the charging, optional extras are just a bonus. Ive had my fair share of fakes from china / hong kong which although super cheap do tend to lack staying power.
I want something that will keep its charge, that has a high capacity to enable me to charge a 3000mAh battery 3-4 or more times and that i can charge fully overnight between 12-16 hours.
Any help in this matter is greatly appreciated, I dont want speculation on products that are out there as i have searched loads and read reviews on what i can. I would just like to hear from people who have similar wants and needs to myself that have used certain products and can give any recommendations.

There are no higher capacity stock sized batteries, its usually fake or over rated. If it exists, Samsung should have produced it already. Better get a power bank to extend your usage.

Looks pretty good. I worry about the prixe being too low sometimes but lots of good reviews it seems. I'll give it a look

Don't worry about price per se. I have this and I charges my S4 three times to full. Apparently uses Samsung batteries.

That's pretty good. Only need it to give a few charges anyway. Does it hold charge properly too? So say if you didn't use it for a week and then used it to charge your phone, does it still have the same charge left on it?

You mistitled the thread. It's external battery pack, power pack, etc. Not charger. Battery packs do charge the phone but "external battery charger" mostly refers to those wall-chargers on which you put the battery to charge directly out of the phone.

Again ... I appreciate your input and willingness to make a point however if you had read what the guy put, regardless of my thread title, he was talking about extended stock size batteries, whereas the title is still pretty accurate for what I want .... An "external" pack to "charge" the "battery". And secondly the title I feel is pretty relevant, but even if it wasn't all you need to do is read my post to understand exactly what i wanted.
Please don't feel the need to take time out of your day to say I did something wrong when in fact you have done exactly the same as the first guy and countless other people by just not reading.

I have a 10000 mAh EasyAcc. Purchased from Amazon, 28 euros.
It is quite slim (similar size as S4, double the thickness) and not very heavy.
I have already used it a couple of times and I am very happy with it. I can charge 2 phones at once, and the charging seems similar like from a normal power cord (got from 10 to 50 in about 30mins).

Four times.
But I am usually using in different combinations... so hard to say. But then I did the test it charged the S4 four times.

To be honest, power bank is pretty handy at times but please note that it takes time to charge your phone thus you need to carry your phone with the powerbank on the move which will be even heavier than your zerolemon battery alone. :good:

I've been using the PowerGen 9000mAh since August last year. It is a good size to carry in your pocket.
It has dual USB outputs plus an attached Micro USB cable that shares the 2 amp output. I like the dual output because I can charge it fast with a 2 amp port that will charge my phone a good 60% in an hour or so, or leave it on the .6 amp port over night and only have the battery pack drop 25%, or charge 2 or even 3 devices at the same time. I really like that it has an attached cable.
I can get a good 3 full charges of my S4 from it.
I mainly use it when traveling. If I am not going to be using it for a while, I discharge it to about 50% and it will stay there for months at a time. This is good practice for any LiPo battery not being used. They basically last forever at that charge level.
I also carry a spare OEM battery with me all the time, which is why I don't carry the battery pack often.

Ah, sorry about that. I was thinking about the internal battery.
Anyways, I'm using a Yoobao 7800MAh Power Bank. Its quite well known in the Asia region (like in the PH), can charge my S4 2-3 times, and quite handy (not that heavy).
