Can't boot into CWR - HTC Inspire 4G

Just rooted my buddies phone. Trying to put honeysense and such on. I go into CWR and "reboot into recovery" and it just goes to a black screen. If I hit power it reboots. I put the newest version of CWR on.
Hoping for a quick fix. Thanks for any help

What root method did you use? Was it bubby323's method? If it was it was a common problem in the past. Read the FAQ. There should be a fix for it. You may also want to try attn1's hack kit to redo it as a last resort. Less problems running that kit.

yes I used bubbys. I'll check it out. He's just tired and gotta work tomorrow. Thanks
Edit:
I like at the FaQ didn't see anything about Clockwork, then I searched inspire forums for Clock work and Rom manager and neither found anything.

Don't mess with eng s-off
Boot into the rom, run the clockwork app and look for the update option. After cwr is updated, you will no longer get the black screen.

A search would have helped as there are over 30 threads with this topic.
or go to the guide, in the general section which has a link to a thread I posted for fixes.
or click on the link.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1019868

Nevermind. Got distracted.

Make sure fastboot is unchecked in the settings>applications menu

If you read I did do a search, clearly not for the right words.
Fastboot is unchecked. I did update CWR and still get the screen.
I'll check that link you just gave me though.

The Samsung Captivate Guide: FROYO 2.2

This guide is for if you are on Android 2.1 and want to get 2.2. If you are fine with 2.1 use this guide. If you already have Cognition you can use this just skip the install cognition step. If you are on a different version of 2.2 you need to do an ODIN reset (second to last page of guide)

No problem! If your still thinking about upgrading I would say its worth it. DesignGear(s?) makes great ROMS. However it does erase your userdata (although for something the files still remain on the SD card (like music). In addition in you want the official Froyo release you will have to use ODIN to flash back.
So, I just want to clear things up for myself.
Right now, I am running Eugene's ROM.
I will flash back to stock JF6
I can download the Cog 2.2 BETA6.zip file. Put it on my SD card and flash it using Clockwork.
If I want to flash back to JF6, I can use Odin to that.
Does all that seem right or is there more to it?
I did read the guide and it is excellent. I am just hesistant here, so just wanted some confirmation.
Thank you for your awesome work.

You use ODIN to get back to stock 2.1. Then follow the guide to the beginning. A summary of the steps to get cognition is:
Flash to 2.1 Eclar
Root the 2.1
Flash the zip file with clockwork

That is what my understanding. I did this with an un modded captivate. I am pretty sure that was JH6. If you have a PC you can always just use his ODIN flash to install it and that is that. But I have a Mac so I made my guide Mac friendly.
pretty decent guide
Great Guide, Works Awesome!
Samsung Captivate
AT&T
Install went smooth as can be. I had to install the drivers, as told by the guide, but I think you may have missed a step?
Under "Installing Froyo --> Prepare" you may want to add a note that the phone has to be in Mass Storage mode to transfer the ZIP. Not sure if this is always true, but I did have to do that on my own (it was not showing the phone when it was sitting in debugging mode.)
I will be sending you a $5 donation. Really wish I could send more, but simply cannot. I am hoping others are doing the same, as this guide is awesome...
I did have one question about the 2.2 update. I heard somewhere that this would fix the GPS issue, however, I am experiencing the same issues with connectivity. Does anybody know if Samsung/AT&T plan on fixing this?
Again, thanks!

I think asking for a donation for copy & pasting postings into a PDF is cheap.
But I suppose you can't blame a guy for trying to skim some money off what should be going to the actual cooks.

One click odin????

Is it possible to make a one click odin for our phones???
the story.....
my friend gave my his samsung captivate to unlock and root. I had all of that done. Then he asked me to put a ROM on there. Thats where i FU**** up and i bricked it bad. screen blacked out wouldnt boot into recovery NOTHING. i was searching around and found a one click odin for the captivate...long story short i have the phone back up and running.
This would be VERY helpful
THANKS
The thread where i found it
http://androidforums.com/samsung-captivate/140190-whats-odin.html#post1527154
I must be missing something, cause that thread looks like it's using the exact same steps as our normal method for Odin. I see no One Click link or instructions anywhere there.
Also, this belongs in the General section.
sorry for wrong section...
scrool down till you find a post by james 27007 September 5th, 2010, thats everything i did it has the link to download the program
but basically all it is you have you phone booted into recovery plugged into to recovery the program says device found then all u do is let it run when the device resets your back bone stock
That's basically all we have to do now... the only added step is putting in the pit and PDA...
yea but with this program all you do is click start and it does everything for you
You still have to install the drivers, and get your phone into download mode, that's the hard part for most users. I'm not sure how he made that.
okay well i just thought id see because i see alot of people asking questions about where to put the files and stuff like this just thought it would help
Odin is already so easy to use... a child could use it no reason to make it more simple

Ok... so I'm more tech savvy than the average bear but I'm not a hacker or even a programmer. And I don't know what these terms mean!
Is there somewhere in the forum (or elsewhere) I can go to learn how to turn off fastboot and what it means to place an IMG on the root of the SD?
I am sure this is a super-noob question for this level of forum but I'm a bit lost and NEED to root my phone so I can tether it with T-Mobile service which will end up being my only internet access which I desperately need for my business. I found "bubby's" one-click method to root with this YouTube video as a walkthrough (S0sQFoS_m_8) and following a link there, I found this to downgrade my OS first.
I know it is a pain when noobs ask questions that seem to be answerable with a simple Google search but the more I search the more I go down the rabbit hole and I'm hoping someone can help me out. Thanks!

[Q] Tweaked v2 ROM update

I have a Droid Charge and two days ago I used ODIN 1.82 to install "[email protected]" (Tweaked v2 ROM); however, I just noticed there is an update "[email protected]" which has a couple of folders and not md5 (META -INF and system).
I am a newbie but it was not difficult to used ODIN to install the original md5 file; however, I am stuck trying to install the update. Any tips what tools to use of where I can have the instructions to install the update "[email protected]"?
Thanks.
BTW I have not had any problem so far using the original ROM.

You can flash it in CWM. Also you can get the same update by installing the black and blue theme in tweaktools.

There is a lot of information in the first 3 posts in the Tweaked 2.0 thread that you should read. 3rd post is where you'll find how to use tweaktools. A lot of android phones use CWM and something you should learn. There are a lot of youtube videos that maybe better to watch then trying to read about it.

It took me a while but this is what I have unsuccessfully done:
Downloaded the upgrade for CWM “[email protected]” then I checked its MD5 was correct A2B101E9556BB2BD59F226E25E87D1F6
Placed the above file on my SD card
On my Droid Charge I pressed the POWER button and from the choices I selected RECOVERY
My phone rebooted into:
Android system Recovery (3e)
enter: OK Key. Select: Vol UP / Vol Down
reboot system now
apply update from sdcard
wipe data/factory reset
wipe catch partition
checking confirmation -> check (0)
Not need checksum confirmation
already executed!!...
--movi_checking done!...
# MANUAL MODE #
From the above choices I use Vol UP / Vol Down to select “apply update from sdcard”, then pressed the HOME key
Screen changed to:
Android system Recovery (3e)
Choose a package to install:
/mnt/sdcard
../
'[email protected]'
I used the Vol UP / Vol Down, selected the zip file and pressed the HOME key A yellow triangle with an exclamation mark and a green droid icon appeared on the screen. A few seconds later the screen flashed up
I pressed the MENU key and underneath the same caption showed in step (4) above, it was displayed:
-- Install /mnt/sdcard …
Finding update package …
Opening update package
Verifying update package …
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted
Therefore, I had no other choice to reboot my phone and to come back to the original Tweaked 2.0 release (4.10), which I continue using.
Did I do anything wrong? Please advise.
Thanks

Kind of harsh but I have to agree. No matter how much people say not to use a theme for a different ROM, some idiot says that it works and then people start asking if X theme will work on Y ROM... JUST DON'T DO IT MOST LIKELY IT WILL CAUSE OTHER PROBLEMS...

You do realize that on the left-side of the page it shows how many times a user has posted...right?
So let's analyze the situation. That person had posted 1 time. And since you were responding to one of his posts, logic would suggest that that was his first post on here. So "do you make posts like this on purpose?" yes. I'm guessing that he purposefully made his first post on purpose.
Now I know that you have a whopping 37 posts to your name, but you should be a little nicer to the new guys b/c chances are they 1) haven't read every post on here and 2) they came to a forum thinking they could ask questions (I know, such a radical concept isn't it). and 3) they probably didn't realize that the theme was the same from 1.4 to 2.0 hence why they asked the question. </rant>

Did your install of Tweaked2.0 go well?
If not, I was having problems (it would get stuck on the SAMSUNG screen) until I used ODIN to put CWM on there (like you did) but before I flashed the Tweaked2.0 zip file, I had to go to Mounts (in CWM) and tell it to mount /system (after you do that it should then say "unmount /system" where before it simply said "mount system").
Good luck and enjoy!

I only pop back over to these forums every now and again but I wanted to see what fun stuff was posted here. And anyways, there are nicer ways of telling the newbs how to browse the forums.

Actually I did. These are the steps I went through:
I used ODIN to go back to the original Verizon ROM my phone had (stock) and then let the phone to update itself (OTA).
Once I got my phone back to "original" I use ODIN to install the latest CWM (Clockwork Recovery Mod) 0302_charge_recovery.tar.md5 which gave me version v5.0.1.7 ( I do not understand why different numbers under the same version).
Once I installed CWM, I did not know what to do with it. I just read somewhere else that I had to have that installed, so I did.
Then as a final step I use again ODIN to install the latest Tweaked v2 ROM “[email protected]”
As of now I am testing the new built. One thing that annoyed me was that there were 22 applications under the Applications menu; they were disorganized in four panes (or windows) so I had to manually rearranged them in alphabetical order, and after that I got rid off two panes, fitting 16 apps per pane/window.
Other than that, I'll continue using the new ROM.

Question about physical buttons not lighting up
In order to limit thread creation I'm hijacking this one due to the general title.
After flashing TWO Charge's with Tweaked 2.0 the row of physical buttons no longer light up. I flashed one back to EP4D (which made them light up again) and then back to Tweaked (which borked them again) already to see what would happen.
Is this part of the tweaks to disable them lighting up? Is there somewhere I can go modify a script and have them light up again?
Thanks
(I'm a Chemical Engineer, I can do anything with cars but when it comes to anything past Odin and CWM, my nerdiness is superceded by this forum. )

This is due to the BLN mod that is included in the rom. See the link below for more info on what BLN does.
It can be disabled through tweaktools if you'd rather have the key backlights act normally (CWM Modifications->BLNModOff)

But my god finding what TweakTools is and how to enter it was difficult. But then again that's not as satisfying as searching on your own.

To be fair - there is a link to all of that in the OP - well, it's the second post, but I figured most would look there as that outlines all the changes that had gone down. Sorry for the confusion - here is the link from that post. Check it out, it ought to be pretty helpful.

[Q] i am beyond 'newbie dot com', & so totally lost... :(

So I rooted my at&t infuse. I now owned it for just over a year, so the warranty on it is out. Here's what I'm so unsure of...
Googling til the cows came home, I thought I discovered that the official gingerbread update brought me to uclb3 2.3.6 or some such thing. I had the ulk2 or something? The unofficial leak back in Feb. Anyhow, found a way to root .6 on youtube. Followed along the whole way, pausing, rewinding, playing and pausing again. The guy on the video was using 'odin'. Finally, (long story short and after my heart started beating again), my screen said 'pass' just like his did and my phone rebooted. (thats when my heart started beating again, lol). So I was googling again, just to see what 'flashing roms' meant. I even had to look up 'rom'. All I wanted a rooted phone for was to get rid of those apps that at&t installed on my phone and I can't uninstall. Which I accomplished. But googling flashing a rom, somehow I stumbled upon another youtube video. This one was of some guy saying if you're not a rogers infuse owner, turn the video off now. So I watched. And he used 'odin'.
Did I root it right?
The only "problems" I'm having with my phone is with the wifi. When I click on fb, it says connection lost. I have to turn on data to use it. But if I click on the web icon, or play store, I can connect. Is it a root issue, or facebook update issue?
Baby steps with me now! I need the 'rosetta stone' version of your reply, haha! This is totally foreign territory for me!
Whether you are rooted or not really depends on what package you flashed with Odin.
On 2.3.6, to root you need to flash a custom kernel, such as entropy's dd kernel.
I suggest you take a look at the super iset thread stickied on the dev thread. You will find everything you need there.
also search on the q&a and general sections.. You should find many threads with detailed instructions
It may be helpful if you go back to the beginning of the Q/A section and read up on the earlier thread and work your way forward. It will familiarize you with the "lingo"
You can also start at the, "How To" thread for some basic info. That thread is pack with lots of info. You may need to read it several times to understand.

It may be helpful if you go back to the beginning of the Q/A section and read up on the earlier thread and work your way forward. It will familiarize you with the "lingo"
You can also start at the, "How To" thread for some basic info. That thread is pack with lots of info. You may need to read it several times to understand.

Thanks for the reply, but if I read it for the next YEAR, I won't understand. All I needed, which you and the previous poster gave to me, was a straight answer - "No, you didn't do it right". I really appreciate that you took the time, and hopefully after Christmas and New Years, I'll have time to skim through!
Thanks for your time!
(is there anyway to delete this thread now?)
It's super easy. With a pc install kies...then run qkster's one click. Directions here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524081
Then run entropys the same way. From same post.
Once you have recovery flash anything you want...
If you flash cm9, and it boots up in rainbows , start these directions over but flash qkster's oneclick twice. Second time have bootloaders checked.
Always flash cm10 only after cm9 or cm10 is on. (never cm7 to cm10)Follow instructions and ask questions in step form. Say "ok so I flashed this here, how do I flash this"
And always flash gaps after you flash your custom rom. (even just upgrades reflash gapps)
Newbie flashing
If I can add a little, you could use Odin. After you install Kies (for the drivers) look for GTG's Unbrick. Flash it. Boot it up.
Go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1613523
Then load that into Odin. Flash it. You can connect your phone, turn on usb, then look in my computer. You will find your phone "drives" there. Add a rom you downloaded, Boot into recovery, do a reset/dalvik/clean and install zip from sd card. Choose the new zip, and hit the power button to start the rom installation. Check out Youtube. They all basically install the same way.Hope it helps. Learn to use the unbricking stuff they have made, and thank them.
