So, I was trying to fix the "all apps force close" problem on my gtablet. (1.2, 4349, now running mountain laurel 1.0.0) and when I went to the apx mode, i noticed there wasnt a button for repartitioning the sdcard, so I hit the power button,(im pretty sure thats the one i hit, wouldnt say 100% sure though). It shutoff so I tried to reboot back into apx mode (power and + button), but it stops at the screen that says "booting recovery kernel image" and doesn't go any farther. All the information I have seen about nvflashing needs the user to be able to get into apx mode. Any suggestions on how to fix this, im up for a full restore if necessary.
Thanks in advance.
To activate apx mode, u need to press power and the "-" button. Power and + button brings you to clockwork mod.
The apx mode looks blank(as if you closed ur gtab), but once you run nvflash, you will see some word appearing on ur gtab.
For more information, go to viewsonic gtab for dummies website or raywaldo gtab (google both of them)
I don't get it. How did you get as far as mountain laurel without knowing the difference between apx and cwm?
Ah, that makes more sense. I was under the impression that cwm WAS the apx mode.
I'll have to give nvflash a whirl that way, thanks fury!
Goodintentions, I've come across some of your posts in other threads that have helped me out, so thanks, (in a roundabout way). As for your question: Multiple choice answer: a. Im Chuck Norris. B. I used magic C. I can follow directions without knowing exact terms. I'll give you a hint, it's not a or b.
Thanks for yall's help! Hopefully I can get this resolved and have a nice tablet!

I had a working Transformer until earlier today when the OTA update came along. Having accepted installation, my device now gets to the Eee Pad / ASUS logo and hangs there (waited for about 45 minutes after the update). Trying to reboot into recovery gives:
Android WW_epad-user bootloader < e> released by "WW_epad-8.2.3.6-20110414".
Checking for android ota recovery
Booting recovery kernel image
It does not give me the Up to recovery, Down to wipe option.
Any thoughts on how I might recover the device?
Many thanks in advance for your help.
Ohh **** that dont sound good
Sorry i cant help with any advice on fixing it, apart from trying a factory reset ?
Did you apply the update with under 50% of the battery available ?
No, full. And connected to the mains.
I cant get any option to do a full wipe, it never asks me.

There are some things you can try in this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1032374
Here a few key combinations for anyone interested:
VOL_DOWN + POWER (continue holding VOL_DOWN when it starts booting until you get a prompt) = Bootloader which offers two prompted options: (1) Recovery if you press VOL_UP within 5 seconds or (2) Data wipe if you press VOL_UP later. None of these seem to offer any USB devices like fastboot etc.
VOL_UP + POWER or VOL_DOWN + VOL_UP + PLUG IN USB = NVFlash mode. It clearly is the NVFlash APX device that we see appearing, but it barfs as soon as we run any sort of nvflash on it (Many Windows and Linux versions have been tried). Please note that in this mode the screen stays completely blank and the only way to get out of it is the following option:
Hold POWER for ~10s = Forced power off. This always helps if you are stuck in some weird mode and nothing on the screen
Dont know if any of these key presses will work on yours, worth a try to get it to recover ?
Yeah I had seen that thread. Unfortunately no joy from either option. I dont get the prompt when I do VOL DOWN+POWER, just seems to go straight into recovery. And as the post says, NVflash doesn't help at the moment.
Can't even seem to get the ADB USB devices to show up, I can only get the APX device which seems to be fairly useless ATM. Looks like I may have to RMA the thing.
What is that small hole next to HDMI port? Did you try that, it may just be button (use paper pin) to reset it to factory default?
Or maybe microphone ? lol i personnaly don't think those tablets would actually have a reset button, would check the manual first before sticking a paper pin into every holes...
My Transformer just came in, I accepted the OTA update and while installing it saw this thread and had a dreadful feeling. Thankfully, it rebooted fine and is working... sounds like something's wrong with yours unfortunately OP .
If you haven't tried the 10 second power button method as mentioned in an earlier post it's definitely worth a try.
stuntdouble:
I thought the 10 sec power button thing just turned the device off. Is there something else I can do that I am missing?
I think it clears cache and/or ram too. I'm not saying it will definitely fix your problem, it may not, but if it was me I'd try everything. It won't damage anything so don't worry.
Have you tried getting into the Clockwork mod recovery? You need to place it on an external microsd and when you do the holding down when switching on thing, it goes into the recovery on the card instead of the stock one. It might allow you to flash a rom to get it running again.
You can find the Clockwork recovery with instructions here
http://android.modaco.com/content/a...od-recovery-for-the-asus-eee-pad-transformer/
Good idea, unfortunately it didnt work. It doesnt appear to be allowing me to get to the point where it will read EP101_SDUPDATE.zip from the SD.
You sure filename is EP101? Shouldnt it be TF?
All the instructions call for EP101, but I tried TF too just in case!

It's a microphone. If you go poking a paperclip in there, good luck claiming under warranty.
Same thing just happened to me... reboot for update, stuck at boot screen.
Not sure if we can find a EP101_SDUPDATE.zip for higher than 20110414 if that'd be a fix or what... or even a PC restore process.

Root doesnt work on the US devices, also, OP hadnt rooted.
so i wanted to do a full factory reset did that from the setting's menu on the tablet now i am just getting a boot loop at least that is what is looks like and i can't go into recovery to doing a nand restore so at this point i am a little confused on what do do i rooted on 3.1 and i used the nvflash tool to root and don't remember what rom i am on i am thinking prime 1.5 my boot img looks like a lhoneycomb bee with a bios looking menu i am hoping someone can help me to move into the right direction thanks guys in advance!!
Tried to turn the device off, and boot into recovery?
if that does not work you should try to go into APX mode and use nvflash to flash a stock or cooked rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133014&highlight=nvflash
It appears you already got nvflash+Prime. Worst case, just nvflash again. I just did that for a couple of friend @work, quick and easy.
so just run the same file that i used to root it in the first place?? is there a link for that i can't find it
link in second post nvflash+ stock rom.
bricked transformer
so the problem i see now is that i can't get the t.f. off how would i enter apx mode if i can't it to turn off or should i just follow dirrections as stated with out it being off/

Hold Vol+ and then press the powerbutton until screen turnes black. You should hold it down a few more second to make shure APX mode is activated.
This works for me when I stuck at a bootloop.
Your problem is caused by prime's shutdown menu mods (recovery or reboot mod), you just need to flash http://www.sdx-downloads.com/devs/roach2010/Mods/Remove_Power_Button_Mod.zip with CWM.
My Tf got stuck at the logo Eee Pad boot after I tried to restore the old rom, and now it can't do anything except boot and stuck at the logo.
I tried the nvflash unbricking technique from rayman84 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1123429
, but my TF only listed as unknown device when I tried to get to APX mode and it also said,
"This device is disabled because the firmware of the device did not give it the required resources. (Code 29)"
Now I don't know what else to do. Please help! I hope I am not completely bricked the device yet.
Have you tried the button combo to get into recovery?
Press and hold the Vol down + power button.
When prompt, you'll see lines of words at the top left of the screen, push the Vol up button immediately within 5 sec to get into recovery.
Apparently, I didn't know the button combo. Anyways you save my niece's TF. Thanks a bunch
Edit: although the tablet is working now, it still got the message usb unknown device. Do you know how to fix it?
Hi, i don't know if i should post a new thread but my problem is almost the same as bengob3t's one.
I have a brand new TF101 with a B70 Serial number, but i successfully rooted it using the RazorClaw Tool. Then i tried to install clockwork mod followin this topic : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1106587
I directly applied the instructions from step 8 (download hashmyfiles etc...) and i rebooted my Eee pad manually step 13
I didn't see any progress bar, but my device is stuck on the Asus screen, and the speakers make stange noises at regular intervals.
I am able to go into recovery though (power + vol down then vol up) but the factory reset doesn't work, and i cant really do anything (at least not anything that i know what it is).
Is my tablet definitely bricked ? If not, how can i bring it back to life ?
I wasn't able to use NVFlash, as i can't seem to go in APX mode. I press power+vol up, i hear the sound usb device connected and immediately after i hear the sound "usb device disconncted"
Nvflash says
"Nvflash started
rcm version 0X4
Command send failed (usb write failed)"
Thanks in advance for your help.
EDIT : When i put the micro sdcard from my phone into the tablet, i am able to mount it. So i will probably be able to flash something from it, but what ? Do i have to flash a recovery ? Directly a custom rom ?
I'm a little lost, but i'll try to give you guys as mush info as i can find.
EDIT2 : I flashed the PRIME rom, everything seems to be back to normal... if you got info on my situation, don't hesitate to fill me in ^^ i'd like to understand what i did wrong, even though i dodged the bullet.

Do you have the correct driver installed? Do you have Asus sync install on your PC?
hmm.. I'm not sure. I downloaded the unbricked tool nvflash file, and the tool already had usb driver inside it. Is that the driver you were talking about? I never were able to get to the point where I need to point the APX to where the driver located because it always said unknown driver the whole time.
My transformer suffered what appears to be a hardware failure today. My screen won't turn on at all. I can hear the tablet click on and off, I can see it in windows, but the screen won't turn on. Second screen issue I've had with it, there may have been a loose cable from the last time or something. I need to send it back.
I don't want to send it back with a custom rom unless I have to. I want to NVFlash back to stock. Unfortunately, I can't seem to get into APX mode, and I can't see why I'm having problems.
I can hold the power off button till I hear the click that it has turned off, and it is no longer seen by windows. Power + Volume Up, and nothing happens, or it boots normally. No idea why.
I do have a version of CWM on there that has been intercepting normal booting, so that may be causing the problems? I don't know, can someone confirm that they can get to APX mode with a bad CWM? Is there any way to fix CWM without looking? Better yet, is there a different way to boot to APX mode? Maybe through command line or something. Windows or linux. Any help would really be appreciated. The last thing I need is for them to refuse repairs, or try and charge me $100 for repairs/shipping on this tablet. At that point, the investment to fix it may not be worth it.
Finally, although I'm 99% certain it's a hardware problem due to the symptoms and the fact I haven't flashed anything for a while, I would like to be 100% sure. I don't feel any particular need for Asus to repair my device for free if I screwed it up. An NVflash to completely reset the thing would be a good way to know for sure.
Edit: Not sure if it matters, but this is a B30K serial number.

The screen stays off in apx mode. If you can see the tab in windows, then my understanding is that you're in apx mode.
You then need to do the nvflash commands. See unbrick guides on xda for that.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1123429
Did a little hunting and there doesn't seem to be a command to get into apx mode.
If your computer can detect it I'm not sure why it won't go into apx mode.. is the vol-up key working?
To get into APX Mode it's Vol up + power button. The screen will be black and blank (there's nothing telling you is in APX mode).
If you have the correct APX driver installed, you'll get the "ping"sound on the PC.
Your B30 should be nvflash compatible

I understand that. My screen won't turn on in any mode. As is, I can't see the recovery, can't see the main OS. Anything. That is why I'm RMAing it in the first place. As for seeing the tab in windows, I see it mounting like it does on a normal boot, not in APX mode. I did try running download.bat anyway, just in case. Did not see anything mounted.

Yes, the volume up key was working. I appreciate looking for a command though. Is there perhaps an easy way to reflash the recovery to stock at least?

I do have the APX driver, it's simply not going into APX mode. I'm holding volume and power. I'm aware there's nothing to tell me I'm in APX mode. However, there's currently nothing on screen at all in any mode. That's my problem. The screen isn't working at all, so it's very difficult for me to tell if I've gone into some mode besides APX. I'm hoping there is another way to get into APX I can try, or at least a way to flash stock recovery easily.
alright, can you get into normal cwm recovery?
If you memorized the screens very carefully you could wipe data and flash a stockrom/recovery.
Sorry that's about all I can think of at this point.
Does the HDMI-out port work? you could cable out and use that to navigate easily.
If you can get into adb in recovery then you can flash anything you want through the staging partition. It sounds like you have the recovery bootloops, so you'll have to clear out the reboot command in the /misc partition. Search for the troubleshooting thread for cwm 5.5.0.4 in the dev section(I think?) to fix the bootloops. Then search for how to flash blobs through the staging partition. viola! easy as pie!
Of course, you might get APX mode back after you fix the bootloops, then you can skip the blob and flash via nvflash.

I have been trying along these lines. It is very confusing though. If someone was able to guide me through the button presses of getting to factor reset, and getting to the filesystem when choosing what to flash. I imagine I could just name whatever I needed to flash zzzzzzz.zip and simply pressing up at the top of the lest would get me too it. Oh, and how many times I need to press down to get to yes I want to flash.
I don't believe the HDMI out is active that early on. Worth a shot I guess.

Not sure how, but I managed to get it to boot to APX. Everythings good now, minus the hardware problems. Time for a second screen-related RMA.
Hello I'm having some trouble. I tryed to flash cm9 and cwm told me that the zip file was bad, so I tryed to restore and my phone gets stuck at the start screen '' galaxy s 4g'' screen. I removed the battery and got it into download mode and replaced the files ive forgot what buttons to hold down to get it into cwm any ideas
First confirm you have a good download by checking the md5. Then try flashing, making sure you have "skip verifying zip files" to checked, or whatever the CWR option is.

if you can get to download mode then it means your semi brick....
if you want to go back to recovery mode, hold power and volume up+down for like 4 second and release the buttons.
if you can get to recovery, you can always mount the phone and download the cm9 in your computer and transfer it to your phone again.
if you can't, use download mode and use 1-click heimdall or gremlin remover and go back to stock GB and redo flash back to cm9
The combo is hold vol up and down, then power... Thing is that phone can't be plugged to computer or it will keep getting on download mode.
*You can just hold vol up and down, then connect usb from computer to phone and it will go to download mode.
*Obviously, phone must be off in order to do this.
