SD Card help - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All
Finally had enough waiting for UK 3g 3.1 update so I followed the AU 3.1 thread. All worked Well GSM with Orange works just fine. However the SD card worked fine untill i pushed the frankron build prop now no SD card is seen. I edited the build prop and removed notablets from a line that was mentioned in same thread but still no SD card.
Anybody got any ideas.
Thanks in advance

[Q] Xoom Micro SD Issues

Hi All,
I searched the Xoom Q&A and could not find any thread on anyine having issues with their Wifi Xoom recognizing a Micro SD card. I cannot work out how to get it to recogixe it.
Anyone got any suggestions or experienced the same issue?
have you unlocked, rooted, or installed custom kernel? that is where you need to start. the tiamat kernel has support for SD card. make sure you read the threads very well about the tiamat or cybertronix kernels to understand the type of SD support they provide.
see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=978013 for the kernel. look in the dev section of the xoom forums for a guide on how to root.
Thanks!
I have not rooted the Xoom yet, do i assume that the Micro SD card will nt work straight out of the box? (if so that is very frustrating!!!)

Yeah, unfortunately that's the case - there is no Micro SD support out of the box, but will be enabled "in a future Motorola update"... Of course, who knows when that will be.
I am only guessing, but I assume there will be a new kernel (tiamat?) supporting the SD card based on 3.1 relatively soon, but again that will take rooting, etc.
I got the xoom going into the fact that the Micro SD Card wasn't going to be working. I think (and I'm just guessing here) that Motorola is waiting until they released the 4G update before allowing for the Micro SD Card to work.
Now, if you root and install Tiamat then you'll need to make sure you have a sdcard2 in your /sdcard/ directory. You'll get a directory of /external/ which is where your Micro SD Card is located (at least, last time I checked anyways) and the SD Card does work with the Tiamat kernal.

[Q] SD Card is now working in Xoom with 3.1?

Ok got a little bit of a suprise tonight after I finaly took the plunge and rooted and then updated my uk xoom to 3.1, the SD card is now working? (in some way)
If a card is present during boot then it apears mounted to the external folder, I can also access this via usb, only thing I cant do is change a card on the fly?
Am I right? has this 3.1 update got the sd card working (at least in some way)?
No... you might still be root somewhere. I try it twice with my 8gb sdcard and my 32gb sdcard
No, Tried it in my US Wifi Xoom that just got the update and no luck. Mine is stock, barring the OTA update.
This is a function of bigrushdog's 3.1 which is not OTA. Stock sdcard has not been implemented.

Ah thanks that explains it then even more glad I've done this now
And for your second question, no it is not hot swappable yet, you must reboot to see the card.

Rooting and/or updating to 3.1 does NOT get you a working SD card.
You will have to install a kernel (Tiamat 1.4.4) + a new boot image.
To avoid serious issues I suggest you thoroughly READ the instructions for installing the Kernel and the boot image.
Double check to ensure you are using the right kernel/boot image for your xoom (3g or not, etc). Flashing the wrong thing in the wrong place can brick your xoom.
Note that an .img file is NOT the same as a .zip file. Check your work before you press [Enter].
Good Luck.
Terry
Also once you do have the right files, the /sdcard will still be the internal memory. You will find the external memory card in /sdcard/external.
Thanks bwcorvus, the only thing I missed was were to look for the external sd card!

Ok I loaded a new boot image and loaded the Tiamat 1.4.4 following the Tiamat instructions
My kernel is now 2.6.36.4 Tiamat_Xoom-v1.4.4-Full_Throttle
However still no joy to access the SD Card. /sdcard/external remains empty when i open it with rootexplorer. It should have the Tiamat kernal zip and wifi_light_ON_Speed.zip on it because these are the files i put onto the sd card and flashed it with CMW.
Any idea what i did wrong ?
hj
After you flash the kernal, you have to restart xoom again for it to read sd card at startup. T least when I did it I had to restart the device one more time.
ok it looks like a SD Card Problem compatibility problem.
I'm using a imation 32 GB card (i-Express 2 microSDHC) class 10
I tried a SD card 8GB from my HTC HD2 and it works.
Strange that I can do the kernal and boot image flash from the card but not read it later. The SD Card also works on my HD2
Live is a mystery

Try formatting the card in your hd2.

update on my issue.
I found another thread with someone having a similar problem he used
Panasonic SD Formatter to reformat the SD Card. It resolved his
problem and indeed my problem. After reformatting it with the SD Formater 3.0
the memory card was finally recognised.
I did a erase and rewrite - takes an hour but was worth it.
I can now report that Imation 32GB SD card Class 10 is working on a Xoom with HC 3.1 and Kernal Tiamat 1.4.4
thanks to everyone

Maybe you could edit the title of your thread to say (RESOLVED) so others with that problem can see your solution.

[Q] Tiamat 1.4.4 HELP!!

Ok guys so I wasn't sure where to post this so here it goes.
I've recently rooted my xoom (3.1) because I was just sick of not being able to use the usb hosting or the sd card. So I went a head and rooted, everything went just fine. I can use flash drives through the micro usb port so that seems to be working smoothly. But I cannot for the life of me get sd card going.
I've read nearly all the threads out here about this but still no go. I've tried rebooting, and of course reformatting with sd formatter. I have created the sdcard/external folder and the sdcard2 (just in case). Any other suggestions??
I used the Tiamat 1.4.4 Full throttle version and like I said everything flashed smoothly. I just can't get to my sd files. PLEASE HELP!!! I've been at this for two days now and i can't seem to do anything with it!!

[Q] Honeycomb 3.2 upgrade on Xoom and SD card anymore

I have Xoom which was rooted on 3.1. yesterday, I decided to upgrade it version 3.2 by following the instructions on this site.
This is how I did it:
First of all I flashed it ClockworkMod Recovery (Recovery Zip (solarnz-R4c-100611-1150)
Then performed update with Recovery Zip (solarnz-R4c-100611-1150).
It got upgraded to version 3.2 and everything seems to be working fine except for SD card. It was enabled in my previous root upgrade 3.1 but now it does not work. If I go in recovery mode, I still see files on SD card but not in Xoom any more. I will appreciate any help to resolve the issue.
I just upgraded mine this morning to 3.2 and the SD card works. shows up as External1
