Hello, fellas...
I can't understand why I took so long to get in my hands, a handset like Leo (US ver.)! I always had it in my plans to buy it, but I was keep canceling the purchase...
Now, for the last two months, I'm a very happy Leo owner.
I'm using "ENERGY-Dinik" rom, which is fine for my flavor...
But... I don't need a great deal of WinMo apps cooked-in the rom - and I believe, in most of Leo's roms. Is there any possible way to get rid of them?
And, most important... Is there any BATTERY LIFE TWEAKS for the Leo? The battery life of "Energy-Dinik" isn't too bad, but I'm sure must be available some tweaks to increase the battery...
Any help, fellas?
I dont like Eneryrom .Too much apps what we dont need . and battery is really bad.
let use Omega rom or Artemis

Good for you; I did (used OMEGA), I HAD issues and I found "Energy" without them.
(And far-far more better good looking - in visuals - for my flavor).
So, any idea to increase battery life? Tweaks, I mean...
Turn off 3g mode.
Using taskmanager to turn off all apps is running . that's all :] I think so...

how rude!!! Do you know who MrBeOTP2 is?? You should be thankful he took time out of his very busy time to answer such an inane question
ah very good ROM I used for a very long time is the Elegancia Rom from Steve. Might be worth the shot.
rickyjune is right. If you stay polite we stay polite and nobody wants to give answers to someone that behaves rude.
A possible way of saving Battery life is BSB Tweaks, if you dont already use it. the 3G mode deactivation is necessary too. Furthermore you should reduce the brightness of the screen. That should give you a good deal of battery life.
But well I am a very heavy user of my phone and when I had winmo on it the battery was down to 10 or 20 percent when I went to bed. And if you arent using your phone as hard as I did , even then 2 days are tops.

I don't give a damn, even if he was... Queen Elizabeth!
I wasn't "RUDE".
I asked a SIMPLE question ("Tweaks for battery"?) and he answered me... with the typical 2-3 things EVERYBODY does when he's flashing a new rom!
(And, maybe I'm "new" here - actually, I'm very old member, but I LOST my account here and I re-created a new one, but in WinMo devices and in Modaco.com, I'm... "dinosaur"!)
Btw... are you HIS LAWYER or something? He can reply to me if he was offended by me, can he?

You should check out my threads. I release an osKitchen built for the HD2. As far as I am aware it works fine with a US version as long as you have the correct radio. If you are a beginner and never cooked a rom before use my beginner guide. If you are advanced chief use my advanced kitchen, some cool options to choose from!
Nice thing is you can build the rom the way you like it and it is stock look so you can customise it the way you want! Links in my sig below!

Yes I have a euro HD2 with O2 but my kitchen is designed to work against any Euro/US HD2 no matter what provider your using!
Pitty, nobody reply me about the first question...
The only thing to do, if I want to get rid some (many) apps in a rom,... is it to cook one rom of my own? Is there any simplest solution for that?
And if, eventually, I have to cook myself one rom,... can I "edit" another finished rom (with the developer's permission, of course)?
To me, "Energy" roms are FINE! They're absolutely great; but, they are SO FULL of applications I never used or using, since the first time I took a WinMo device.
There are so many of them, "useless" to me, and they're draining unnecessary memory - which isn't bad to have this memory FREE, for the rest of the apps I'm using.
Can someone reply me, about the above questions/issues?
Thxs in advance...

"Energy" roms are fine for my use - but they're FULL of applications I don't need.
I asked many lads in many fora and they told me, there are specific "tools" to "open" an rom and locate (and remove) which application you don't need.
And they told me to ask... here, in XDA!
Any idea which "tools" are talking about?

If there aren't such "tools", can you guide me which "kitchen" should I download and what's the proper proccess to import/open a rom in a "kitchen" and what I'm doing next?
Thxs.
Hi Andrew.mazlim,
Just an idea, do a search for Rom-Extractor App.
Also you could ask for help in the Energy's thread

I'll check that app you mention.
I already did it, via PM (with "Energy" developer, a US mate of yours); but he doesn't have time right now to help me, too bad.
I just need a good "kitchen" (and every other utilities I may need) and a guide step-by-step method, to do so - rip and modify a rom.

If you are talking about hermes ROMs, then, you may be right, but, if you are talking about universal, then, there are not more than 10-15 ROMs(for wm6)
Lets me re-frase my question: which room would you say is with least errors?
here is your answer, set aside a few hours, install the latest ones and decide which one you like the most.
there is no 'best' rom, only those that suit your tastes/needs more.

best rom is PDAVIET 2.10.11 ROM, with Radio 1.18 ... and it is the only ROM I've tried ;-)
Best WM5 ROM is the official WM5 ROM.
Best WM6 ROM depends on your preference. No ROM has the "least Errors/Bugs". They have the same amount of Errors/bugs. If you don't believe me, try them all.
Once you're done, you are no longer a n00b. And you are no longer new in this "Business". You are now out of what you thought was xda-noobies. Welcome to xda-developers.

this is the best rom in my experience! I had installed all WM6 Rom. like hermes, PDA VIET... event with some rom of Ivan! But this rom is very stable, ram recovering well after using some software, especially when log in internet through wifi! May be with my device is the best but I think you should try it first to save your time!

For sure...Read and try the differents roms avalaible and you could make your own choice : you'll find the better rom ...
It's not because your noob that you don't have to read : quite to the contrary ... you should read more than everyone...Being a noob is not a good excuse !!
I've tried certainly all wm6 released on universal. Each rom have advantage and inconvenient...
The best way is to test it yourself !
In my case i've stopped on leo's Rom because i like his kitchen base !

Wow, I can see you have that British sense of humor, well known in WHOLE WORLD.....
Do you find it hard to comprehend, these ROMs are home brew, the people using them are techie people that like messing with these things, and different tastes suit different people.
Why do you think so much variety exists in everything in life? It's because different people come to different conclusions.
It's why there are so many damn versions of linux.

We were all "noobs" once, the best way to deal with your issues is read the damn threads, and when you still don't find any answers ask "POLITELY" for assistance.
We are all here to help each other, and we will help, but please abide by the rules (You may have failed to read those too!!) and try to be polite.

Cingular doesn't offer WM6 for the Wizard. Your best bet is to just try a few out and see what you like best. Asking which one is the best is very subjective and has been asked about 100 times already with about 1000 different answers.
Good luck!
ok...let me try to rephrase, would u happen to know of any WM6 roms for the wizard that are as close to the wm6 for the 8525 as possible. Without a ton of addons or anything. I want to have something that runs as smooth as possible. Something that is as close to the "stock" 8525 if you will...

If you think "a ton of addons or anything" makes a rom slow, you are mistaken. I think you will find most of the custom roms here faster than stock Wizard (8125) roms and they have lots more functionality. Having addons does not take away from your phone's storage space or memory. Only if you turn on the addons will it take away from your phone memory (but just like it would if you installed it yourself). Remember that the ROM has a dedicated area of around 60MB of space. If you put a 40MB rom in that space, you don't gain the 20MB, its just lost on the Wizard. So personally, I pack my roms to fill that space and give the most options built in for people to use.
But there can be a price with having a packed rom. Some have seen slower boot times and slower access to the \Windows folder when you try to use a file manager. But I've never seen it impact overall phone performance itself.
Just had to point that out, as it seems to be a common misconception that people have.

but to set everything straight, i have searched. Faria is by far the best working ROM that i've used thus far, and i've spent hours searching for ROMs and i'm already on my 5th one. You stated you're on your 5th flash.....there's over 70 Roms out there and new ones coming every week. You've done nothing! Faria's Rom was released about 3.5 months ago or longer. There has been alot of changes since then....but if you did some real research....you'd know this.
If you feel Faria's Rom is the best....stick with it, modify it & make it your own.

1. I agree with dwny. This is a developers forum. This is not a forum for developers to help nubes flash new ROMS. I'm pretty tired of the "If I flash this ROM, will I lose my programs?" questions. I must see that at least a few times in every new ROM announcement thread. Most of the dumb questions come from people who don't contribute anything but "Works great. But can you add [insert freeware software request here] in the next one?"
2. If you're going to be a wise-ass, please spell all of your words correctly and use the correct context. It may not help you be more correct, but it will at least save you the humiliation of not knowing and understanding your native language. The correct phrase is "Duly Noted." And as a sidenote, dualy isn't even an actual word.

Hi guys,
I'm finally getting around to flashing my stock Vario III after loads of hemming and hawing, but before I do; I have a question or two for you.
1) If I go to WM6.1, can I use my Sprite Backup files to restore my installed apps? I've heard I can't, but would like to confirm.
2) As there are so many ROMs to choose from, are there any for WM6.1 that are as close as possibly to the official T-Mobile ROM my phone shipped with? My primary requirement in a new ROM is stability and usability, but I'd like it to be as fast as possible too.
3) Which pagepool size renders the best performance?
My thanks to those that may answer, and a big wet raspberry to anyone that tell me to search the forum! (I did!)

1. No. Only if you use the same rom. Use UC to install your apps. Its real easy.
2. Cant tell you that. It's a personal preference thing. Only you can answer that.
3. I like 18.
Thanks. I know 2 is mainly a personal preference thing, but I'd rather find one that's as similar to the shipped rom as I can, without all the extra trimmings that people add. Hence I was asking if there were any like that, beyond that NoFrills one.
Oh, BTW.. What's UC? Could you expand the abbreviation please?

UC us User Customization. It was developed on this site to allow people to 1-tap install all of their applications after flashing a new ROM. It works the same way as carrier customization after a hard reset.
The NoThrills ROM floating around here is quite good for someone looking for a very basic ROM so there are no unused/wasted applications on your phone. Until the Apr 09 Dutty ROM came around, I was running NoThrills since the day it came out, and was very satisfied with it.

I really do think the Wiki's and FAQ's have a lot to offer. That is how I learned to flash and customize. It seems like the hardest part(insert joke) is the first time set up stuff like Hard SPL, Jump SPL, etc. But after that you start to tweak your device more, it gets easier. Sprinkle in a little UC(User Customizations) and then your hooked. You'll start looking for and trying any and every ROM out there. I know people get annoyed when all of us say to read but it's the only way to learn and understand the stuff. It's all laid out for you, you just have to use it and soak it all in. And if you have really read and made an honest effort to learn on your own(and we can tell) lots of people here are more than willing to help, we've all been there. It's just when we read all the redundant questions that have already been answered that some get their blow torches out.

also read the first sticky, everything in it, in the Kaiser rom development form it should clear up alot of hesitations.

No, my reason for hesitation is that I'm basically a lazy bugger and the thought of reinstalling all my apps is irritating. Besides.. With so many ROMs, it's hard to choose the one I want!
@futbolkeeper, thesire and tubaking182,
Thank you very much for the advice and support, appreciated. My idea of first-time flashing is:
Step 1. HardSPL (after data backup)
Step 2. Flash new ROM
Step 3. Flash new Radio.
Step 4. Restore data
Step 5. Install any new apps, if necessary...
Am I right here? I may do this in a short while!
ahahah.
I would be a trifle peery of your 4th bullet. You do not mean to restore data from a preexisting backup, do you? Even if you partially succeed, you can make one big mess of your "new" Kaiser. Nothing an HR could not put straight, but that defeats the purpose of restoring data in the first place, now doesn't it. (and yes, I went through that myself. Lost an hour or so for exactly zero gain)
If, however, you only mean things that PIM Backup can store, go ahead by all means! Contacts, agenda, tasks, texts - NP here.
And yes, you will end up (re)installing extra apps - if only because no-one but you can judge what is key for you. And because if you use your Kaiser as a gaming platform or a mobile library, no-one has quite the same taste as you.
Ah, and yes, your suggested order is quite correct
Thank you wyrm. That's absolutely clear, and by 'restore data' I meant PIM backup, so no problems here.
As I am typing this, I have already done the first three steps above, everything is perfect and am restoring with PIMbackup now... It has been a great experience, and am very excited...
EDIT: PIM data restored and all's well. Hope all my previous programs work well with this ROM too.
BTW, This ROM (Dutty's WM6.1_5.2.19700_Hybrid_V2) has a radio also inbuilt, so step 3 was redundant
Entire process took about 20 minutes flat...
I've flash so many times already, reading all about ROMs out there really convincing. So I flash and flashed on my Hermes, HP and Kaiser then only realize bugs one after another. No big deal. And it's not going to stop too.

ALWAYS HARD RESET AFTER YOU FLASH!!
i know it seems like a waste of time but you need to do it in order to make sure that everything from the last ROM is deleted

Thanks! Fortunately, I remembered immediately after flashing and did it... otherwise, I would have had to do so now and lose all the newly installed apps
I admit it! Im overwhelmed with all the information on this site. I would really appreciate the technical expertice of this helpful community. So far Ive installed HardSPL and im downloading roms from alex, faria, and thinkin about dutty's roms. Im researching on which radio version is the best for me and so far it looks like 1.47.30.10 from DR Puttingham's experience. Im also starting to understand that the best way is really to cook up your own rom but id rather start with a lite or clean version with great looks, speed, functionablitly. Im curious as to why I only see a few people cooking up roms when i know there are better chef's out there like...molski? again...what do i know..im just a noob.
so here i am asking the vast community their opinions of best of...
best chef? (not just for quantity but for quality)
best lite/clean rom?
best full rom?
most useful radio along with your location?
top useful programs?

You know you're never going to get a proper answer to these as everyone has their own preference not mention they aren't gonna say one is better than the other... Why not just try them all and see what you like?
And I think most people don't cook their own ROMs cause:
1) They don't want to learn how to, or
2) They don't have the time, or
3) Somebody else is already doing the hard work (and doing it well..), so why bother?
Personally, I think I'm a combination of the 2nd and 3rd, which therefore makes #1 redundant (for me)..
if i were u i'd go to my closet and put my flamesuit on ....or hope that we're all in a good mood

okay ... first of all you should really think about what you post before you post.
You can't compare the chefs because each one invests there precious time into our community here (WITHOUT COMPENSATION) and does the hardwork for us of making a rom that is better than the piece of **** our carrier shipped us. So in my eyes they are all the greatest and bestest. Choosing a radio is a trial experience you have to find the one you like that best suites your location.
And if you don't like what other chefs are doing get the dumped rom for your carrier and work on it your self.
this by the way is the nicest reply you'll probably get (not unless someone just won the lotto or got laid or is stoned .. .in which case they won't be able to reply ...)
peace,
sire

You are not the first, and wont be the last to ask these kind of questions "Best, top, most"
Here are 3 outcomes:
OMG WTF BBQ stupid question
MY IS TEH LEETEST ( ego boost )
There is no best, only what you think is best.
but most of people have their brains working will either go 1 or 3. So, put on your flame suit and start flashing.

Oh **** , LOL , didnt notice
You da man , I award you with the title "XDA chief detective "
guys this is not a question, this is a "plea" for some help...
if one of the great dev's out there would be kind enough to enable multitouch on this rom http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/1701190/kb7sqi-magic-full-V2.7.2.zip
i, and many others who use this rom, would really appreciate it
ps: i did pm the dev who cooked it, but he didn't answer, so i thought i take my chances elsewhere..
what ROM is this??
my bad..
its a rogers rom that comes with a flash player enabled browser and other sweets that come with a rogers rom, such as the smart dialer, apart of course from being lightweight, which makes it run smoothly on my 32b G1
more details can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=567371
come on guys..is this really too much to ask?

patience. devs do this voluntarily at their own time. demanding for features won't really get you anywhere. Especially with 2.1 AOSP being out there now, i'm sure there's a lot already going for them.
Try this: http://lukehutch.wordpress.com/2009/01/25/get-multi-touch-support-on-your-t-mobile-g1-today/
Don't know if it works for your rom since it's originaly made for 1.1, lol.
Thanks for the tips guys..
Unfortunately the above link suggests installing a different rom to get a mt enabled kernel.
Sorry if i sounded pushy. Didn't mean to...
I was just wondering what it takes to apply the mt patch to the kernel thats all
I think you can't just install multitouch on a rom because it needs to be in the kernel. So or you wait the rom builder of your rom includes it in his rom, or you need to try another rom.
what base firmware is this ROM using?
i dont have time to research it
Its cupcake 1.5
kingklick,
just wanted to say that its really nice of you to show interest in helping others.. you must be a really nice guy
thank you
just checking..
i feel like a little kid askin' for candy here...but i don't care
kingclick, was you inquiring about the base firmware here an indication that you'll help out? i really hope so...
You wont find someone to do this. You've cluttered the developers thread with your groveling. You should read up on the methods and do it yourself. Plus, then you could do a lot of extra goodies. If you want something done, do it.
well..

you mean learn java and android programming, and in a few months, or maybe a year, i'll be able to do it all myself... sounds like a great idea..
but here's a better one,
in this world we live in, there are specialized and professional people, each in their own field, so when someone "like you or me" need something that is not in our ability or specialty, we seek a professional...
i don't mean to be rude, but this could easily be compared to learning dentistry to do your own tooth...
haven't you asked for any help from anyone in your life?
If you really want MT in browser why not use dolphin or one of the alternate browsers in the market?
mt is missing in the rom itself, the patches were not applied..

no, i'm circassian, and "no doubt" you you have no idea what that means, but here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circassians . do a little reading, it might widen your horizon, and maybe you'd be capable of viewing this world differently..
