HEY GUYS,
I just picked up a XOOM off of Craigslist. But when I got it, I realized it was Verizon Xoom. Which is fine cause I only plan to use it via WiFi. But I'm trying use Qik to video chat other Sprint friends and it wont connect.
So I was wondering if there was a way to root and load a Sprint rom which will work on the Xoom? Also, has the update been released that enables the Memory card port?
Thanks
No to the sprint rom. You and your friends need to get tango. Or they need to get vtok (while you can use google talk). If you guys want to video chat. 3.2 has microSD support.

Ok. I will try that. . Is there a way to root this Xoom yet?
Yes, Xoom can be rooted. Look in the dev section. However, the VZW 3g model has not had 3.2 release yet.

Has anyone been able to get Sprint TV apk to work on any of the AOSP ROM's? I tried installing Sprint TV apk on Destroyer ROM about a month ago, but had to switch back to my Sense based Rom b/c I wasn't ever able to get Sprint to actually start playing video. (I really need my mobile CNBC on Sprint TV xtra).
If anyone has any advice, it would be greatly appreciated.
BTW - This is for an HTC EVO 4G.
I updated to 2.3.4 on my i9020a Nexus S. My buddy tried to gtalk video chat with me and it says:
'tried to start a video chat with you while you weren't connected to WI-FI.'
Do I HAVE to be connected to WI-FI for video chat to work? I thought Video chat works over 3g?

By default your carrier has to allow it. However, there is a simple workaround for that if you are rooted.

Well I'm on AT&T using the Nexus S. To my knowledge, AT&T doesn't officially support this phone so I'm not sure what they do.

I'm guessing it's a default deny unless authorized by the carrier. If you can't connect via 3G just edit the gservices.db as described above and it should work fine.
seems like it. I edited the file and it works now. Thanks!
FYI: I did it over Sprint's 3G the other day and the quality was good enough.
mine works out of the box, tried it yesterday from car for half an hour video chating with my wife, quality was pretty good A/V.
Thinking about buying a WiFi only Xoom I am Canadian.
If I root it a flash it with a US ROM will there be any issues?
I can not see any problems? Should be the same hardware here or the US WiFi is WiFi. Maybe access the Google Market?
I have done research and there is a easy One Click Root, and US ROMs are at 3.2 but for some unknown reason Motorola Canada Xoom is stuck at 3.0
i did it to mine. i've had no problems with accessing the marketplace. the only problems i've had are with google books, google voice, and google videos. and thats beause we don't get those 'services' in canada
it's all the same hardware. motorola canada hasn't said more than two things about getting 3.1 on our xooms. the last thing they said was it was comming in a 'couple of months'...that was over a couple of months ago
I had a replacement Xoom sent to me after my last Xoom took a nap and never woke up. Anyway I was downloading an app yesterday and I was using the browser and looking at the Market through the browser. When I clicked to download the app it said that I had a Verizon Xoom.
How can I tell? The Xoom I have doesn't say VZW on it. My Xoom is flashed to Moray so I don't know if there's something.
Mine is from Sprint but it is also mentioned as Verizon Xoom in My market account.
I originally purchased a WiFi only Xoom. Could it be they sent me a VZW one by mistake? Does that mean I can also send it in to get the 4G upgrade when available since I have the VZW Xoom? Do I even have a VZW Xoom? Did you confirm you have a Sprint Xoom?

Mine is wi-fi only xoom
Not possible that you will be given 4g lte upgrade.4g lte upgrade is for Verizon 3g customers ONLY.
Mine bought from Sprint that's why I know it is from it(though on box there is no where sprint name/logo)
It seems anroid market classification is at fault.
Oh ok. I see.
OK just observed that while installing apps through PC android market there are two options Motorola Xoom and Verizon Motorola Xoom(VMX) for selecting device.
If you choose VMX then in your account it will be shown as VMX
Guys first thing is, did you root your Xoom:
If yes then if you also flashed one of the custom roms it uses a build.prop file from a VZW tablet. This is a text file which has information about your Xoom which is picked up by the market. Thus making the market think your have a VZW Xoom. My Xoom read Wifi Xoom prior to flashing any of the Tiamat roms
Now if no then I have no clue since if its stock your build.prop would read your exact model in the marketplace. Xoom Wifi, VZW Xoom etc....
Just as a side note some people were changing there build.prop files to try and trick the market into thinking they had Netflix compatible devices...
Hope that helps

Hi, I have a question about my Samsung captivate that is unlocked and running CM9. I have a phone plan with tmobile, and was wondering if I could get the wifi calling feature that is on the vibrant on my captivate. I am comfortable with flashing custom roms and the like, so if I have to make some changes, that is fine.
In short, my question is “Can I get the wifi calling app that is available on the tmobile vibrant on my unlocked captivate running CM9”.
Thanks, Ben Finch
I'm going to assume you have an up to date SIM from T-Mobile. Some older cards that came out just about the time the vibrant did were incompatible with Wi-Fi calling, and required people to get new ones. So, if it doesn't work, that's a possibility.
I work in a phone store, got to see that action first hand.
As for Wi-Fi calling, you shouldn't have to hack unless you're running a stock Rom on the captivate that has unknown source installations (side loading) blocked by default. If that's the case, browse the stickies.
Wi-Fi calling, last I checked, was simply a regular apk. Check out the vibrant and galaxy s 4g forums, I'm sure it's posted there somewhere. I'm out of town and using my phone, otherwise I'd be able to extract it from my wife's g2 and post it. PM me if you don't find it there, I think I can get it from my desktop eventually.

Hi Ben,
I'm having the same exact issue. Did you ever find a solution? If so, please advise. Both Samsung and T-Mobile reps say it's not possible to have Wi-Fi calling with Captivate. Seems there should be a way.
