Im not a newbie ive been using odin for almost 2 years regular. This is different. Im not getting the com on the odin
have you tried different usb ports? have you tried a different pc? have you installed the samsung drivers? Ask again when you have a little more information to provide.
Ive tried using win7 laptop and Vista laptop. Every usb port on both computers. All the proper drivers are installed. I used my win7 for fascinate alot. I rooted the phone using odin on a friends computer. This was the first try on my win7 with the charge. The phone goes to download mode fine. Odin never brings it up in the com port part. Ive tried several different odin downloads with no luck on both computers previously mentioned.
Hmmm, if ODIN worked on your friends machine then it has to be isolated to your laptops. I would uninstall the samsung drivers and perhaps find a different download source and install again? You could also try Samsung PST lite to see if that sees your phone on the com port.
Not sure what else to try besides those 2 things.
EDIT: Also, you are making sure you open ODIN before you put the phone in download mode? im sure you probably are just want to eliminate all possibilities.
Tried your first option several times. I'm not sure how to use pst. I downloaded it and its a rar. I dont know what to do with that. I also read that I need a dll to use it. I dont know what a dll is. You or anyone else doesnt happen to know anything on this pst by any chance.
Also if you flashed a different Ron or anything else, your charge may not have copied everything properly, essentially a corrupt program. Try using heimdall if you can't get Odin to work. In fascinate general is a sticky with instructions and a link for the program dl. You will also need 7zip or something similar to open up the tar(Odin) file and get what you need out of it. Don't worry if you are not familiar with heimdall, if you need to use it, my walk-through is step by step so even the not so techie can follow it with no problem. Hope this helps.

There are also some Sammy generic x86 and x64 drivers on that thread, they work fro all the other Sammy phones to use Odin, might work for the charge too.

Here is the download location I used for the Samsung PST lite program
http://www.mydroidfiles.com/downloads/TBH/SamsungFlashingUtility.7z
use 7zip to extract the contents and then install everything that is extracted (it includes the dll you were mentioning)
I just called samsung. The charge does not support pst at all. They are allegedly not aware of odin.
EDIT: I just read youy post about pst. I will give that a shot.

The charge worked fine with that version of PST lite i linked you to a post back. I used it to restore my phone to stock when i was in a pickle.
Ive downloaded and extracted whats next? I have no clue how to work it. Can i stick my humble 1.35 file in it or is there something special? How do I use it at all?

install everything you can install from the extracted stuff, then click your start menu and launch samsungPSTLite and then click on the picture of your phone to the left then at the bottom right I believe is where it shows if you phone is connected or not.
EDIT: also the only time I had to use this was to restore to a stock ED1 state from a download located here http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/...harge-full-factory-tar-flashing-software.html
Just for everyones reference odin will not work unless debug is enabled. WOW!!! I feel like an idiot! The pst is working now though thats how i figured that out.

Haha, well i guess in one way or another I sorta helped. Glad you got it sorted out. The first 2 things I always check on my phone after I install a ROM is debugging enabled and the unknown sources checkbox.

1. Power down phone, take out battery
2. Fire up odin (btw, what version are you using?)
3. connect phone to computer
4. Hold volume down button till Downloading appears.
Hopefully that works.

Rom manager is not compatible with our phones. You will likely need to revert back to an older version of cwm.

I too would also like to know where I can get this older version of cwm.

There should be a link to a cwm.tar file (not the exact name) on this page. Flash it via odin and there you go.

Thats my problem I cant use my USB right now and I can only zip at the moment but barely can do that do to the Recovery messing up
Can't use USB right now...? I think you might be confusing transferring files to the USB card while the phone is booted, with flashing a TAR file via Odin.
Remember--when you're flashing via Odin, your battery is pulled, the phone is off, and then--while you do plug in your USB cable--it's only receiving power through that USB connection.
Use BDE's "How to customize.." guide here, and go directly to step 2. If you don't already have it, grab the "Red" Recovery from this thread (also linked to in BDE's guide); grab the TAR file listed there. Then go back to the guide and follow the instructions for Step 2.
That should get your recovery back to Red recovery, and I think from there I'd make sure everything else is working and the phone boots before doing anything else. Once it's up and running, then maybe give the kernel another shot.
EDIT: Thought of what else you might mean; if you're unable to get Odin to recognize when your phone is plugged in, hit up the Samsung website to get the Samsung USB drivers. Then, when you hold the volume down key as described in the guide, you should see one cell of Odin turn yellow, which tells you your phone has been recognized. Assuming you have a Windows PC, at least.

Yea I even put in another post about my USB issues and can't seem to find a solution. I may just purchase another phone. My girls works perfect and no connection problems but I may of damaged it or something but it only charges doesn't work other wise. ADB, USB file transfer, nothing.
ChromDog's post was a mess. I'm ignoring it.
So you're saying you can't even get the phone to work in Download mode? Will the phone actually boot up into Download mode?

Yea I get the yellow screen with the android saying downloading. I have tried 3 cables and 5 diff computers. I even went to cellular south and got a new cable. When I figured it was my phone was when my girls phone worked with the same equipment. Also sometimes when I plug it up to the PC doing download mode it will say USB Not Recognized and I have the drivers installed I even tried to select the specific driver but didnt know which one to do out the that folder of many LOL
Have you tried opening ODIN in Download Mode anyway just to see if it'll recognize the phone?

Rare is the occasion that wiser words than these have been uttered. XD
While I was getting pretty wordy with my answer, Add's more or less on the same track as me: Even with the USB not working when the phone's booted normally, does Odin recognize it even so, or is Odin what you've been trying and not getting to work?

The different computers you tried wouldn't really matter unless each one had the Samsung USB driver installed. Also, does your girlfriend have the same model phone as you? If not, it's not necessarily a fair test.
It does sound like you've tried using Odin, and it just hasn't worked (based on the bolded part). So, try this:
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/SCH-I500RKAXAR
Go to the above link. Underneath where it says "Download Center for SCH-I500RKAXAR", look for "Manuals | Software". Software should be a blue link; click on that.
You should see a list of four items you can download. Look all the way to the right, under the "File" column; there should be four little icons. Click on the first of the four, and Agree to their user agreement. Save the file somewhere easy to remember, and run that file. I'd suggest doing this on any home computer you might connect your Showcase to.
Then, try putting the phone in Download mode and connecting to Odin once again.
Does it work after that?
I dont know how or why but I was able to get odin to work on a XP machine and I flashed the odin files for pick and pack and the odin files for cwm recovery all and was able to get both the recovery and 2.2 but I have more problems LOL. My internal memory is 0. I factory wiped and wiped cache via red recovery but to no avail. Still getting 0
If you can get into your phone and do stuff in Android, I'd run a Titanium Backup of your apps and stuff. If not, you may be SOL.
I'd start by just finding a stock ROM for 2.1 or 2.2.1 and Odin'ing that over to the phone. Start completely clean, no custom ROMs. Then load up CWM Red again.

I have been looking for 2.1 Stock Rom for CS but I have not been able to. I have my apps backed up but unfortunately I can't install them in this Rom yet but I will keep trying to get it.
Ouchie! I just had a look throughout the Mes Dev thread, and the one post I saw for EB11 for Showcase had the link removed. Couldn't find any other reference for an actual stock 2.1 or 2.2.1 specifically for the showcase; the guys *may* tell you the Mesmerize ones work for Showcase, but DO NOT use them until one of them says so. I would guess not, but don't know for sure.
I'd see about hitting the IRC channel and asking for a clean stock ROM from there, and/or maybe getting some "in-person" advice that way. ...or hope Phidelt82 or Elijahblake come across this thread to get it to you/help you out otherwise. XD
LOL IKR but I have already asked them for a Stock 2.1 Rom for CS and I was pointed to someone but they haven't responded to me so idk. And thanks for some of the info and I am happy I was able to get the files b4 he removed his comments. I had them already saved on the computer.

Some individuals were trying to put together a 2.1 stock image but weren't able to get one working, the one they have is stock 2.2 and that is the only pure stock ROM they have, but there is no reason to go back to 2.1 unless you planned on using it and staying with it, so a clean flash to 2.2 should fix any issues you may be experiencing.

I am with Cellular South and I don't believe there is a stock for us just yet. I was also able to put the SDcard in a card reader and put Superclean 2.9.2 on it for Showcase. Pray I get internal storage and my phone works.
YES!!!!!!!! Internal Storage w/ Superclean and a working recovery. Well I have more issues to attend to but that's wonderful to me.
So it seems like the first time stuck so it restarted, now it's stuck at partition. I selected the PIT and the PDA stock file, but it's just sitting there ... I'm on the phone + PC logo.

not sure. let it sit for a while. h8rift or somebody said it took his like 20 minutes(if i remember right) which seems weird. also you should be logged in windows as admin and the usb plugged into a port that connects to the mother board not a expansion card or hub.
honestly though i have only used heimdall on the infuse. and never repartitioned because heimdall requires bootloaders for repartition. im not sure i trust lost1's bootloaders and if there is an issue with them there are no others to use.
it might be a driver issue. maybe samsung needs some updated drivers for the infuse.
also are you sure you have your .net framework up to date on windows? i cant think of everything odin depends on but i think having .netframework4 helps with some things on the phone, cant remember ifodin depends on it though

cant hurt to leave it there a little longer. the captivate never took that long but we also had a true factory flash oneclick odin that they use to reset refurbished phones. no such luck on the infuse unless someone wants to see if designgears has some sort of connection at samsung who can get it like he somehow was able to get it for the captivate. the significance of odin oneclick is that is has all the files. param.ifs, boot.bin, sbl.bin, and all the first boot scripts. our stock roms have come from rom dumps. the captivate stock roms came from samsung.
i would leave it for a good 20 minutes. then try something else. you may need to try files from lost1's stock rom you can use 7zip to manipulate the .tar files and magic ISO to manipulate the .rfs files within the .tar files, but atleast one ofthe files from lost1 doesnt work. if i had 2 infuses id experiment with you to be able to post what works and what doesnt. with only one phone im hesitant to try anything that is not tested

I'm using H8rift's restore... and both of the two (rooted and non) have the same issue for me.
It just sits... I've used the rooted and non-rooted.... ugh.
It goes to firmware update start then has a little greenness in the progress bar on the computer, and a little blueness in the progress bar on the phone, but I let it sit for 30 minutes and it never progresses any further, so there's something going on.
I've tried other usb ports, updated drivers, every method of compatibility and admin mode, even reinstalled windows basic version, haha.... ugh, this is hopeless.
I think it's time to chalk this up to a very very expensive lesson learned and go out and buy a replacement... not happy about that :-(

Why did you use a .pit? Did I not state in the OP of the Odin thread not to use one? take out the .pit, uncheck re-partition and flash the package as it was originally attended. you will NEVER need to re-partition your phone until we actually start CHANGING your partitions sizes (i.e. CM7, MIUI, possibly Samsung's gingerbread, etc.)

I've been trying to figure this out for hours...
I recently got a Charge (I also have an old Fascinate). and I'm trying to root it. It came out of the box with EE4. I primarily use a macbook pro, but have learned that I can't root EE4 with it. So, I booted up my old school desktop PC.
I can't get Odin 1.82 (or 1.3 for that matter) to recognize my Charge or my Fascinate. I've tried 4 different Samsung driver files, and the computer recognizes the phones in USB Storage mode just fine (telling me that the usb cable is working fine). I can transfer files and everything. And yes, the phones have the yellow road sign looking thing and say "Downloading..."
But when I put either in download mode:
USB device not Recognized.
One of the USB devices attached to this conputer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it. For assistance click this message.
Basically, acts as though no driver is installed. and when I click the message and go to Update the driver (while still in download mode), I went to C:\Program Files\Samsung\USB Drivers\, but there's tons of folders and non of them contain a working driver for download mode (I tried them all).
I don't care about the Fascinate. I only mentioned it because I thought there was something to neither phone working. And this is the first (and only) time I've tried to get Odin to work (ie. it hasn't worked ever).
I've searched all over the forums, internet, and soul trying to figure this out. I can't be the only one this has happened to. Or I'm missing something really fking obvious.
I'm on an old custom made desktop with an AMD 1700+ processor running Windows XP (not 64 bit).

the pc itself doesn't sound like the problem, at least not directly... the only things I can suggest would be to either try different USB ports, a different cable, uninstalling and reinstalling the driver: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/34782489/SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_I510_v1.3.1900.0.exe (which is made specifically for the Charge), disabling any antivirus that may be installed (or running Odin as administrator), and making sure USB debugging is ticked off under 'development' in applications settings
thanks for the quick response, but unfortunately, i've tried all of those except for disabling debugging. and, sadly, that didn't do the trick.
i've tried all of the usb cables i own (about 7). i've uninstalled and reinstalled divers from every link posted, and rebooted after each time. i've tried all of my usb ports on my computer. i've even cleared out the usb history in regedit.

well if it was just the Charge I would say there may be a problem with the phone or somethings not being done right, I have heard of some people having phones (Fascinate mostly) that won't go into download mode for Odin but will work perfectly with everything else... however both phones not working seems to be some kind of issue with the pc or cable, but I couldn't say for sure as I'm not knowledgable on the hardware of android phones

is there any way to go back to eb01 or whatever without root or Odin?
or can someone post the Download Mode driver?

If anyone is an ADB guru here they may know how to do it with that, like pushing CWM to the phone and then you can probably flash to stock... I only know how to do basic things like install apk's and logcat
I know with most phones, you can't go back without root because the system doesn't let you. I'm used to the Droid incredible and incredible 2, where rooting and flashing roms is easy as pie with some knowledge of adb and cwm. none of the ed01, ee4, fu69 stuff to worry about. Odin seems very easy, and its damn near impossible to permanently brick your phone if you have it. BUT I can't get it to work.
is there an adb / non-Odin root method for ee4?
if I understand correctly, the gingerbreak method and one click method don't work with ee4. (I've tried both of those too)

Your on Mac? Have u tried using heimdall?
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
I've tried using heimdall on my Mac and can't get it figured out. heimdall 1.3 (older heimdalls like 1.1.1 wont open) requires a framework.XML file which Odin roms don't have. I can create one but the only way I can do that is by using a .pit file (which creates a partition) which I'd have to take from other rom files. the only way can see it working is by Frankensteining it together to get it to flash which does doesn't seem right.
I could be completely misunderstanding how to get it to work. I could just use heimdall in terminal, but I don't understand it enough yet to attempt. heimdall 1.3 looks nothing like the way I thought it would (where I select all the recovery, bootloader, etc files individually)
grr...

You know we DO have a PIT file right?

which should I use? depending on the rom I use, does it matter which PIT file I use?

there's only one PIT file and its for getting to stock 2.2 Froyo
so, I should only use it for flashing back to stock 2.2?
can I use it for flashing a 2.2 rom like gummy charged 1.9.1?
does it matter which stock 2.2 I use? ed01? ee4?

yes only for stock 2.2 because it is what reformats your partitions after they've been converted to ext4 with lagfix/voodoo
as for stock roms EE4 is the latest and hasn't given me any problems when Odining but I suppose the others like ED1 or ED2 would be fine
just bricked it.
I was trying to revert back to ed1 so that I could root from there with gingersnap / gingerbreak through adb
I downloaded the Verizon stock ed1 file and pit file, inserted all of the files in the correct place (param = parameters.rfs etc.) it got to uploading kernel and failed. now my phone boots into a picture of a cellphone then an arrow pointing at a computer with a yellow triangle with a !
and I have no way of unbricking it.
I'm going to borrow someone's windows laptop and Odin it back to health (hopefully)
then I'm returning it for a thunderbolt. this phone has driven me mad.

soft brick, you need to odin EE4 stock with the PIT file and it'll be back to normal.. its almost impossible to permabrick this phone through user error, only if the boot.bin files are corrupted afaik
blazing through on my 4G Droid Charge

I have to use Heimdall if I'm to flash my phone. At home I only have access to Mac. I used a PC at work to root my phone (superoneclick was waaay easy), but I don't want to push my luck with IT and my boss at work.
Is there a list of Heimdall packages for the SGS4G anywhere? I've been searching and can't find them anywhere. Maybe Heimdall 1.3 is too new??
I am hoping to use Audiophile because it just chaps my a$$ that I can't play a stock music player (TMOUS) without it skipping out (paucity of cpu cycles I imagine). I very much appreciate the post RaverX3X put up about Audiophile recently. However he focused on Odin and I can't use Odin.
Any ideas anyone?
No one has made any firmware packages for it.
You'd only use Heimdall for flashing a stock rom base with a custom kernel and then you'd have to flash audiophile through CWM anyway.
I'd make a firmware package for you if I wasn't on my way out soon though. Maybe if no one else has done it when I get back I'll set something up for you.
Alright I made the heimdall package for you, I haven't tested it though, so proceed at your own risk.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/tea..._kh2_with_kg4_kernel_heimdall.tar.gz/download
Did it work? I want to know so I can post it on the original thread.
You gave some qualifications about using CWM before putting up the Heimdall package. Since this is my first time flashing and I only have my SGS4G so I am going slowly. I got CWM installed and backed up. I downloaded your file and have it on my Mac. Before I try to use, I want to be sure I know what I'm doing. So I'm reading a lot of XDA first.
You will be the second to know I got it installed and working (with me being the first obviously. )
Thanks for the help.
You actually don't need CWM at all. You'll wind up with CWM after flashing this.
Okay, I'll give this one a try. In a previous message you said that after using Heimdall, I still need to flash Audiophile using CWM. Is that still true? Is there any other software I need to flash with CWM?
You might need to flash my busybox_installer.zip but I think Raver may have included that in the audiophile ftw installer.
Well I tried but Heimdall could never see my phone. I can connect USB storage using the phone, but Heimdall can't detect the device at all.
I've searched XDA trying to find MAC drivers for the phone that might be better than mine, but I've not found anything yet.
http://www.glassechidna.com.au/products/heimdall/
Scroll down and find the OSX version (Heimdall suite 1.3.0). It comes with Codeless kext (aka driver). It should install libusb for you.
Hmmm, I installed that package. I do not know why kext didn't work. I know I have a system reboot since then.
Maybe I'll uninstall and try to re-install.
Thanks A Lot

Awesome, I'm glad it worked for you. I'll be making the Froyo portion of the heimdall package available soon in order to update my GB Starter Pack guide for mac/linux.
How straightforward was the install by the way? I'm still trying to get feedback from users.
I am very happy heimdall is working for you and you got the ROM flashed.
Very frustrated that I can't get heimdall to see my phone. I have CWM installed and I have the RootExplorer app working and I can see my SD card as a USB drive on my Mac. Is it possible to flash with just those three tools?
All the guides I see seem to focus on Odin or Heimdall. Do they do some magic that I can't accomplish on my own?

Sadly there's no safe way to flash bootloaders using CWM, which is the only reason we're using Odin/Heimdall. I can't diagnose the problems on a mac since I don't own one, but have you tried removing heimdall, restarting, reinstalling, restarting and trying again? Might make it work.
Thanks A Lot

Well I mess up with the bootloaders cuz Im coming from trigger rom froyo. But luckily for me I able to put the phone on Download Mode and the Heimdall just detected it. I just follow the read me files on the Heimdall then put your files on it. Press start and it work like magic... I have Gingerbread Phone

Just try to put your Phone on Download Mode and pray that Heimdall can detect it. Then your good!!!!
i tried flashing my sgs4g with odin and now all i get is the samsung galaxy s 4g from tmobile screen and it just keeps loading like that in a loop.
at first when I tried odin, i was not able to reboot and my screen displayed all sorts of colors and just did not work. I unplugged and tried odin again and came up to this point. now i'm trying to just get my phone working again. help anyone?
hey guys, need some help from the guru's here. trying some of the newer latest roms and kinda got stuck here. for some reason im not able to use odin(1.7 or 1.81) to go back to stock. i am able to use the heimdall one click versions (stock froyo, uclb3, and entropy DD kernel) but thats it. im on gb bootloaders and heimdall did ask to download some new drivers, wondering if that was why?
been having problems with this touch screen on several roms and was going to call about warranty. if they want it back, it needs to be stock stock.
thanks in advance for any help
brad
How are you entering download mode, manually or through extended power menu/toggles? Powermenu/toggles never worked for me I always had to go manually for it to be detected
Have you tried different USB ports? For me only one USB port works with Odin...even though the rest work out of download mode for transferring files
You probably do, but do you have drivers installed?
Sent from my SGH-I997 using XDA
doesnt matter if i enter download mode manually with the button/data cable method or through extended power menu.
im using the same usb port i've always used that has always worked for me. i'll try a different one.
also, i do have drivers installed because i have used odin in the past.
i honestly think it has something to do with the drivers that were installed when i used heimdall one click, they were a different set of drivers. i just dont know how to reinstall odin drivers or put it back the way it was beforehand.
i do have a replacement device on the way and i would like to have uckh1 installed before i ship it back to them.
Reload drivers. Heimdall drivers aren't used with Odin. Adam O just posted some comments on this in another thread recently.
