[Q]I want change my phone's OS - General Questions and Answers

my phone is Moto MT716, most of you may never heard it, it's made for China's 3G called TD-SCDMA, and it's OS is Ophone 2.0, a special OS made by China's Mobile Broadband Carrier based on android 2.1.
But I want my phone running a real android, the phone is just like the milestone, only it‘s not WCDMA, I also know in China HTC has some TD phone running android.
Could I mix the milestone's rom and HTC TD phone's rom together and put in my phone?
I hope someone could give me some advise.

WM6.1 for HTC S720/5800/Fusion/Libra/Boss

I am on Telecom NZ and have a Okta Boss, which is the HTC 5800/Libra/S720 etc. Which is CDMA/EVDO.
It's WM6.0 smartphone
Why is there no dedicated thread to this HTC phone in the smartphone area?
Would I be successful in using the VOX WM6.1 rom on this device?
How can I get into the bootloader to backup the current ROM, I tried using Power+Camera but it still boots into the phone.
I basicly want to know the same thing :-/
How many times it has to be sayed ... ROM for some device is only for this device. It won't work on any other device so ROM for Vox is only for Vox and it won't work on other devices
Man, your topic got me excited there for a second since I'm on VZW with a 5800. I'd love to see somebody out there create a ROM for our phones with 6.1 on it.
to be 100% honest, i dont think many people care about the CDMA versions, its really because CDMA providers are all garbage and lock everything down

Wow, aren't we being just a little harsh? Some of us in the US at least stick to the CDMA carriers since they, ya know, tend to have a lot better coverage area. The whole major aspect of owning a cell phone.
I think its not fair, The members on here are making ROMs for the S710 which is a hell alot older then the S720. Who cares what type of phone it is. All people want (Including ME) is Windows Mobile 6.1. Its not that big of a request.

About that comment, Its funny, Becuase the HTC S720/Libra made it into the top 25 most popuular Smart Phones. And has stayed there since its release. If anything, I think that all the ROM hackers/makers should stop making ROMs for the S710, Which is a much older and crapper phone (No Offence) and start making ROMs for the newer and better ones.
the S710 was replaced by the S730 a long time ago, the S730 blows away the 720, and yes the ppl like CDMA because of coverage not becuase of what phones the provider has.
but im in a major city where coverage with GSM is actaully better than CDMA, and the CDMA phones we have here are all total crap. the rom that comes with the telus S720 is the worst windows OEM rom ive ever seen. its slow, its HIGHLY unreliable, it requires resets near daily also it doesnt even have MMS capability. telus for some stupid reason didnt include the arcsoft client.
this is why i say not very many people care about it, it CHEAPER and easier to get a PDA phone and just throw in a sim card.
also im waiting for a rom for the S720 as well but i know it will never come, i need a super lite rom with no telus crap on it so the phone will actaully function properly. as you can tell i support them at work.

We Need an Unlocker
We need an unlocker for the bootloader, so we can load custom ROMs, and kitchens,
I have a Verizon SMT5800, and I'm stuck on WM 6.0 until someone does.

Any update?
For those still interested, there is an update to 6.1 for Verizon's SMT-5800 available at http://www.pcdphones.com/phone_downloads.aspx?bid=81&cid=1&mid=292&carrier=Verizon Wireless
This is a little bit old, but I'm in a bit of a bind - I have a Telus S720 that I haven't used in ages, and I'd REALLY REALLY REALLY like to use WM6.1 on it. The thing that pains me is that the update exists, and Telus are happy to give it to me - but they link to HTC's site for the download, and HTC (being the most customer-friendly company ever) have removed all their old phones from their website, including support links.
Thanks, HTC!
If someone has a copy of the Telus S270 ROM update to WM6.1, I'd REALLY like to get my hands on it.

Telstra TP2 questions

Hey guys,
I recently got a Telstra TP2 on a new contract, but I can't stand what they've done to the ROM. For those who don't know, Telstra have added 4 extra tabs on TF3D (downloads, telstra applications, tv, news and sport) which can't be removed or turned off, and they've put 12 locked (unremovable) program shortcuts on the start menu.
As I'm in a rural area, I need the 850 band the Telstra version of the phone supplies, and I'm worried that flashing a new cooked rom will lose this functionality (I'm very new to this). As it is, the shipped version of the Telstra rom isn't found on this site through the wiki (version 1.19.841.3 (51489) wwe), so I'm scared that I'll lose it forever and won't be able to put it back on if something goes squirly.
Is there anyway I can get around this besides flashing a cooked rom, and possibly losing the shipped rom forever?
Also, have any other telstra users been able to use HDWall on the phone to replace the crappy blue telstra background throughout the device?
Many thanks,
Tim
Welcome to forums
Have a look on Rhodium ROM development and choose another ROM!
Good luck,
Thanks for the welcome
I've had a look around, making some heads and tails of it, but I really need to know if I'm going to lose my 850 band with Telstra if I flash another cooked rom without all this Telstra garbage on it.
No you wont
850 is a hardware stuff related and you cant change it with any ROM, so you can install
Just have a deep read on the how to section in rhodium rom development
Enjoy,
Hi there, me again.
I was at the Windows 7/Windows Phone pre-launch in Melbourne on Tuesday, and picked the brains of the Microsoft employees manning the Windows Phone booth showing off Winmo 6.5 on the TP2 and D2. One of the first things I was asked during the conversation was if I had already flashed 6.5 on my phone, which I was surprised about. I mentioned my reservations about losing the 850mhz band with Telstra NextG, and the employee told me that the support for the band is built into Telstra's crappy ROM, and would be lost if flashed with anything else.
Are they yanking my chain or what?
I would like to know this too.
I`ve changed my ROM twice, saved my original one.. and I`ve finally encountered a connectivity issue...
Perhaps it`s my using a Telstra, Unlocked HTC Touch Pro 2 with an Athine ROM (though it really doesn`t make any difference what ROM I use... Maybe) on my Rogers BlackBerry Internet plan.
But I`ve used the Sony Ericsson Xperia on it and a few weeks prior to this date, have had no problem surfing the internet.
It MAY be the fact that Rogers is having problems with their network in downtown Toronto, so I`m hoping it`s not my TP2...
In any case, I`m using HDWalls on my phone.. but I`m just (un)installing the individual walls as I go along.
There`s something wrong with my computer that I have to fix because I cannot install the items necessary to use HDsWalls on the phone, and on the computer.
But so far, it`s been the best.
Although, I just have to say.. if you don`t have anything like "background for all" sort of cab files on the phone, I believe;
1) The phone runs faster
2) The background quality is crisper/better
Took me 2 weeks for me to get my Telstra Touch Pro 2 from Australia to Canada, and it was worth it.
I BELIEVE just changing the ROM will do nothing to the radio.
Moving into radio talk, I was wondering if I updated my Telstra phone with the latest AT&T radio build, because the hardware is for 850mhz and so is the build...
Will it enhance my connectivity?
Does anyone have any expertise on this and help shed some light?

What's the difference between CMDA and GSM?

I am confused on why there is an entirely different section for the TP2 CDMA versions. It's especially confusing considering that it is a global phone that can run on both CDMA and GSM. So what's the difference?
Does a CDMA version of the phone have a different OS somehow, which is why there aren't any CDMA roms out yet? Would it screw up my phone to install a GSM ROM to my TP2 (Verizon)?
Any help would be appreciated.
cdma and gsm are 2 different cell phone technologies. kind of like vhs and betamax. 2 different ways to provide cell phone service. normally your phone uses one or the other. sprint and vzw use cdma while att and tmobile use gsm. this is all related to the built in hardware not the os. the att version only has gsm built in and can only use gsm's network. to compete with with gsm providers bragging about world wide coverage vzw and sprint have world phone version that have both cdma and gsm radio's built in. they are locked to use the cdma radio in the usa but can roam on gsm networks while traveling abroad. they have similar os's but are different enough that you can not use the gsm version on a cdma phone unless it has been modified for it. the cooked roms you see in the cdma section i believe are gsm roms that have been modified and tweaked to work on the cdma phones. since the gsm version has been out longer the 6.5 os has already been release officially. sprint and vzw will eventually get a 6.5 os from htc which they will tweak and cripple to their liking and then they will each release their own version. also remember these roms contain both new os versions and radio software. the main danger of loading the wrong version is probably with the radio. the gsm version will not have the information to run with sprint or vzw's cdma radio hardware. if you want to load a new rom you need to use the tweaked ones here in the cdma section or until vzw releases a new rom.
It's coming together..
Alright, so I am beginning to understand about the differences, thank-you so much for your information. But I am wondering if there is someplace that I could go and read up and the specific differences and how to start helping tweak roms, write them, or such. I am interested in actually coding, or however the people here make their programs for cell phones. Any websites that you could refer me to or anyone here who is looking to take on a student?
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=difference+between+CDMA+and+GSM
Nice.
Alright, I get the picture. From now on I shall not ask questions to which I can find answers on Google.
That link was very cool by the way, I have no idea how you made it so I could then interact with that search query.
They're just two different types of technologies.
The main difference is what frequencies they operate on.
On the TP2 the difference is deeper then just the radio technology that you can Google.
Externally it means you have a headphone jack on the CDMA version.
Internally there is an FM radio on the GSM versions. And the CDMA version as noted has a GSM radio secondary to it. And some GSM versions have a front facing camera.
That helps a bit, but not all the way
Alright, so I can understand the differences in technology that comes with the two diffferent carriers. But why are the ROMs so different between CDMA and GSM? If there are only a couple of technology differences, shouldn't it be easy to change that and make them work? Or does have it to do more with the radio frequencies and coming out with a working ROM that makes them still be able to connect? If so, I thought the different Radio installers came in different packages and were installed after the ROM.
Thanks for all the info.

WTF? There are plenty of CDMA Roms, check out forum.PPCGeeks.com it's the main CDMA Windows Mobile forum. smh
I guess I was looking in the wrong place...
Alright, I will go check out over there. I was looking around here for a CDMA ROM, and I just didn't see any. Thanks for the point out.
my fault re-readin what I wrote I see that I'm coming off rude I really wasn't trying to be. Here's some Rom tips once you unlock for Sense 2.1 (with weather clock and fullscreen weather animations) go with MightyRom, it's by far the fastest most stable with great battery life that I've tried. For Sense 2.5 you can try JuicyRom or EnergyRom I found Juicy's to be very fast but 2.5 just doesn't compare to the stability and speed of 2.1. Good luck.
No worries
No problem, I thought it was just becuase I was a new user asking obvious questions. Thanks for the help.

7 Pro on US Cellular

I have the 7 Pro on a smaller regional carrier in the US. Generally the dev community behind the devices they carry is non-existent.
With WP7 are the unlocks/jailbreaks fairly universal? I see lots of references to 1st gen vs. 2nd gen HTC devices and understand the difference to be drivers.
I am on the base OS build yet, 7004. I read through the jailbreaking instructions I believe should work (http://wiki.windowsphonehacker.com/wiki/Jailbreaking:HTC_1st_Generation). It does not mention the 7 Pro/Gold at all, should I assume it will work on this device for this small regional carrier?
Very new to this community (have had the device for a day), not tech inept at all, programming experience and rom building experience for Android. Just looking for a good place to start with this device that has no real community backing on this specific carrier.

Help
I'd actually like to hear an answer for that, I also have U.S. Cellular (updated to Mango - 7740) but I want Internet Sharing so that I can use the net on the go. Is there a way to put a custom ROM on our carriers phone. And what about the Chevron Labs unlock tool, what does that do in terms of putting ROMs on your phone?
My understanding is that the 7 Pro has some jailbreak / unlock capability in the pre-NoDo days (so the OP might be able to do them). The Chevron unlock tool only lets you side-load applications without going through the marketplace and doesn't help you with custom ROMs (AFAIK). The Arrive (Sprint's 7 Pro version) is still stuck in the unfortunate mode of locked for hacking.

I'm with US Cell AND their official answer is if you want any kind of teathering, it'll cost you $30 / month and THEY control turning it on.
From everything I've been reading, ICS is actually built into WP7 BUT the crew has yet to figure an easy way to enable it without unlocking the phone AND, from what I've read, it's still uncertain as to if the proceedure is only for GSM phones or will work with US Cell's CDMA phones.. I was reading a thread here yesterday, sorry, no link, where a group is working hard on figureing out which reg keys need to be corrected to enable ICS..
HOPEFULLY someone will figure a way that will work with all phones and NOT have to get a DEV key to unlock.. I love my 7 Pro phone but I really miss my Touch Pro and WinMobile WiFi Router. <sigh>
Actually, they do support tethering by default on their data plans now. I haven't seen a plan since the change to Belief that doesn't have it. The problem, the HTC 7 Pro does not support tethering AT ALL. This is most likely due to changes in the OS platform that prevents it or simply does not make it available to be used as a modem.

FWIW, I called and talked to the US Cell tech support last week and was told that YES, tethering IS available BUT it is a charge service AND it has to be "turned on" by the company..
Just saying,
The USB port settings in the phone would have to be changed from its default mode that allows Zune connections to the modem mode that allows tethering.
Samsung and LG phones have Engineering menu codes that allow changing the USB port mode. As far as I know, the HTC 7 Pro/HTC Arrive does not...

Moto g7 Lineage OS modem flashing

So I recently rooted and did the Unofficial Lineage OS 16 rom on my phone. My question is if there are flashable modems to improve my cellular service due to me being on Metro PCS and getting spotty service at my job and certain places around where I live. I do understand that I live in the country and I won't get perfect signal service but I am wondering if there is a way to make it better. This is a GSM phone. If anyone has any tricks or something I can do to make it better let me know. I have done different stuff in the past to other phones(QPST) and plenty of flashing(I used to flash CDMA based phones to cricket long ago.) I know what can fully brick a phone too. Anything helpful would be appreciated.
