I want to exchange my asia phone to T-Mobile one,is there a way to? - HTC Sensation

Sorry for poor English.
I bought my asia phone in Singapore and i take it with me to US.My plan is prepaid $70, it has 5GB 4G data. But actually my phone didn't support 4G,even HSPA+,so i can't enjoy high speed.
I want to exchange my phone to T-Mobile Sensation 4G, and pay more $ 150 is ok, because i don't want to buy a second sensation. Is there a way to exchange it? If no, i won't go to T-Mobile's store because it is far away from my house..
I think some of you may ask me why not call to customer service, because my english is bad and they speak too fast for me to understand..
Thanks for your answer!
EDIT:
If there is a way to enable HSPA+ on my Asia Sensation,I won't go to T-Mobile to exchange one

probably.. not u will have to open a new 2 year contract with them if u want it and thats $200.

I will leave US in Sep.
So it is impossible to make a 2-year contract with them.I just want to give my Asia phone to T-Mobile and pay less money to get T-Mobile Sensation

I'm almost 99% sure your phone supports it. It has the AWS band. Just pop in the T-Mobile sim card and you're good to go.
Edit: it has the AWS band, so I'm 100% it will work: http://www.htc.com/asia/product/sensation/specification.html

Never goes to HSPA+ just HSPA.And i noticed that 1.28.707.2's RADIO is 10.43.9007.00P_10.11.9007.19_M and in the newest 1.35.707.1 RADIO is 10.43a.9007.00U_10.51.9007.27_M3.
U is HSPA+ disabled. So may be htc disable it?And T-Mobile's Sensation has one more antenna. I don't know what's it used for.

How do you know U means HSPA+ is disabled? And those pictures don't mean much because the Asian HTC page says it's capable of up to 14.4 Mbps down, the same as the US Sensation. There's also people in the US who have European/Asian Sensation's and I don't think they have a problem getting those speeds. What speeds are you getting?

You're allowed to breach contract if you go somewhere which won't have connection. So if you move in sept you can terminate plan. Not sure if you have to pay off the phone though

Weird...is that one test or an average of a couple? That's really perplexing and I don't know why HTC would put that limitation on the Asian Sensation.

Jerry, my research shows your phone was manufactured for use in Southeast Asia. Unfortunately it does not support HSPA+.

If you get 3G you're good to go on the high speed front.. you just aren't getting up as high as the 4G enabled Sensation. You are probably capped at 7.2HSPA which is still quick.

Hardware-wise the phones are basically the same. HTC customer-service doesn't know anything beside the information listed on the web, don't trust them. A year ago I had a Canadian version of HTC Hero with 850/1900 3G bands. The HTC Canada website said that at that time the phone also support 900/2100 3G bands, but that wasn't the case as I have tested it. I emailed HTC Canada and was told that it supported, because the spec on the website said so. After a few email exchanges, the dude finally went to get information from the technical team and confirmed that the phone didn't support those band and modify the spec on the website.
In America, HSPA+ is called "4G", which is not the case in the rest of the world. So only in America the Sensation has "4G" in its name. But as a matter of fact, the hardware of the phone is the same as the Asian version. It wasn't listed as HSPA+ device on Singapore probably because HSPA+ wasn't as wide spread there or it wasn't launched with a carrier with HSPA+ network? I don't know. However, it more likely has to do with the fact that HSPA is sometimes mis-branded as HSPA+ in the US. See this article:
http://thisismynext.com/2011/05/04/att-t-mobile-dipping-hspa-4g-branding/
But don't waste time trying to get the US version, you won't see any practically difference in speed between HSPA and HSPA+. If in fact you do, it's probably have to do with t-mobile limiting your prepaid account rather than the hardware. I know AT&T does this. If you get a "4G" phone from AT&T, you have to tell them otherwise they won't let your account to get HSPA+ speed.
And btw, practically I haven't seen anyone with a supposedly HSPA+ device can even reach the speed of HSPA theoretical speed limit. Download a speedtest app and run some tests. Worry only if you see your speed is throttled at 14.4Mbps

Ok, I didn't read this post of yours. In any case, it's more likely that it's t-mobile doing something to limit the speed rather than HTC. It doesn't make sense for HTC to cripple the unlocked devices themselves. T-mobile may have restricted HSPA+ access to those phones that they sold (by recognizing their IMEIs).
Btw, where (physically) did you perform those tests? I'm a tmobile user, and my Sensation is having full bar with 4G, yet I'm only getting around 4-5Mbps.

Just on a lark, can you try going into the bootloader to see if it says S-OFF or S-ON? I think you have to disable Fast Boot, shut it down, then hold down the Vol-Down button while pressing power, until you get the white screen with Androids on skateboards.
If by some chance you got an S-OFF model you may be able to flash the T-Mo radio. Otherwise you'll have to wait for the bootloader to be unlocked before you can try tinkering with it.
If you feel the need to get a T-Mo Sensation, you may be willing to find someone to swap so they can get the added benefit of a phone that doesn't have an unsightly T-Mo logo on it. Also you could sell your version to a CDN WIND or Mobilicity customer (since the AWS carriers here don't have HSPA+ speeds yet) and use the proceeds to buy someone else's used T-Mo version.

AT&T 3G VS T-Mobile 3G (Funny/True story)!

I was at the mall earlier with my buddy and he wanted to go to the T-Mobile store and ask a few questions.... I ended up talking to the store owner about random Android/Cell phone bs.
He pulled out a Nexus S (Unrooted/No ROM) and was explaining how T-Mobile 3G was so amazing. So he showed me his SpeedTest app results and they were around 1.44 down and he had one test that hit 2.15 I think.
So I downloaded the Speedtest app on my AT&T Samsung Captivate (Rooted/Serendipity 2.0) and tested. I got 2.23 and my upload annihilated his (don't remember number but it was high.)
He was speechless. Lol!
Yeah.....as long as you live in one of the locations deemed worthy of 3g by at&t. Sadly their promise of 3g here by the end of the year was yet another empty one.

You try hitting them up for a microcell? I have heard if some getting them to give them one due to poor service.
I'm actually sick of people complaining about att speeds since everyone is talking about 4G this 4G that. I know topic says 3G but still lol...
ATT gets 4.2-5Mbps down in my area and 1.7Mbps up. No other carrier I've seen here has been close sprint vzw etc get 100KBps... tops no higher.
Look at sprint's 4G its as fast as ATT's 3G. Vzw laptops only atm. TMo who has even heard of them in my area... they r big in Texas I know but nation wide??? I give props to tmo for using gsm like att so I know their speeds got to be up to par but I look at coverage maps and say really??
But anyway that's just my 2cents I pay for 10Mbps cable and my phone beats my computers speed tests... its sad that att wireless speeds are faster then our cable provider in my area...

Is there a specific AT&T group where I can request a femtocell? I tried at the local store and with the marketing dept, and they both said no. I have 6 AT&T phones -- 4 on a family plan and 2 more on corporate contracts. There is no signal at my house -- in a low area with only 1 tower in town. I can get 3G if I drive about 1.5 miles, but cannot keep a call connected at home. Seems like I would be a perfect customer for a femtocell, but I must not be talking to the right people. Without a signal solution, I am definitely going to try another carrier.

Has AT&T Crippled Upload speed?

It sure looks like it. Why? Who knows? Help avoid network congestion? Not once have I seen above 0.5Mbs up. Forget about down. That's terrible too. I feel deceived. Nowhere in the settings will u find HSPA+. Only HSDPA. Go to settings, scroll all the way down. I think its phone info or something. System should day HSPA+ (4G) not HSDPA.

And I see you're in Brooklyn, so you just answered your own question as to why you're not getting 4G. As suggested earlier, Rooting your phone and flashing a new ROM should give you HSUPA (look through the forum, people are reporting between 1-3mbps up)
It is easy to fix so while it would be nice out of the box the user can fix it.

This is upsetting. Upload speeds are definitely crippled.

Crippled unless they remove the limitation with a firmware update. No prob getting 1700 up on a captivate on my home tower; never break 500 with inspire. Has NOTHING to do with any switch getting flipped with regard to upload speeds.
If you want higher upload speeds, root and flash.

This is definitely false advertisement on AT&T's part. Miami does not have 4g turned on, it's not even on the AT&T map for current 4g areas, but yesterday a rep. in my friendly neighborhood AT&T store, told me that if I had the "+" next to the "H" I'm getting 4g. So, I did a speed test in front of him and I got 1.8 down and 0.3 up. He seemed baffled and walked away. I just don't want to be stuck for another 2 years for a service that it is not true 4g. Maybe T-mobile 4g or Verizon LTE are better.

When you see the H+, this could mean you're connected to 3G, HSDPA, or, if available, HSPA+ (there's not multiple icons for these networks). HSPA+ (which isn't really "4G" - this is a marketing ploy developed by T-Mobile which AT&T decided to latch on to, I think they should be sued for this) is currently being rolled out, but it's not available in most areas.

Does 4g hspa+ work on custom roms and radios from other regions/carriers?

Title says it all. I searched but didn't find my answer. I am running core droid and the m3 radio. I don't want to go back to stock radio bc I got crappy signal everywhere with it. In network info it only ever says I am connected to hdspa. I am still trying to figure out all these terms but my main concern is, if I flash a radio like the m3 from another carrier and country and also have a custom rom installed will the phone still be able to connect to and receive the 4g hspa+ speeds if I am on a back-hauled tower? I just wonder because it seems to me since the roms are based on the Desire and the radios are from another country it would not work right? Can someone clarify?
Nobody has any comments?
It will only work on carriers that use 850/1900 for 3g, which is only rogers in Canada and ATT. It won't work anywhere in Europe 3g or anywhere else.
Thanks for replying but I actually was asking if the fact we are using roms and radios based of the desire HD hardware would prevent us from connecting to hSPA+ service on ATT. I mainly ask because I was in Los Angeles today and I am pretty sure they should have hspa+ backhauled already and the best speeds I could get with full bars and using a server 2.6 miles away was a ping of about 194 and speeds of 3.03 Mbps down and 1.27 up
Okay I am beginning to think we can't access 4g with our rooted inspire. I am on att and running core droid rom with m2 radio. I just looked on the ATT site and it says LA,Ca is one of the cities that has had the complete backhual. Yet I only saw the above speeds and the only think my phone said was hsdpa never hspa+ in the network information section of the settings.
I definitely can access so called ATT 4g with the M2 radio which is NOT the stock ATT radio.

Are you in one of the listed areas that has the 100% live 4g? What speeds do you get in a 4g area on a speed test? Does it show hspa+ in network info in phone settings menu? Also what rom are you on? Just trying to narrow down some stuff.Just because it shows H in the status bar doesn't mean you are actually on 4g.

I'm getting anywhere from 500 to 2500 down and usually around 1000-1500 up.
The menu is meaningless from what I understand. The only thing that matters is speed and I clearly am getting so called "4g" speeds. Using the stock rooted rom.

First off MODS I think it would be best if you can move this to the DEV section as it's better suited there I would think?
Yeah those speeds are for sure not 4g. The reason I am bringing up all of this is the fastest speed that the Desire HD specs say it supports is 3g 14.4 megabits/s and hspa+ is rated at a maximum of up to 42megabits/s and even faster down the road. Now if the radios (maybe even roms) for the desire were not meant to ever support hspa+ (it doesn't say in the specs it even supports hspa+) will this mean that if we are using those radios and roms we are not going to see the speeds we should?
I know this does not seem like a big deal right now with 4g access being limited, but ATT is fastly expanding the coverage area with it's backhaul. So figureing this out before hand would be a good idea. The Iphone for example is capped at like 7.2 download because it does not support hspa+. If the radios and roms form the DHD are the same way we will be greatly reducing our data speeds.

Typically we should be able to in theory edit the build.prop to enable compatible speeds.
In theory.
This is actually a great thread and point to be brought up.
Most of us aren't on an unlimited data plan so having the fastest speed is the only perk we have vs. Using edge and dumb phones.
Um coming from an unlocked Android phone which was only compatible with at&ts edge connection and that experience was less than stellar.
Hoping the Devs here in the Inspire 4G section have this in mind, and if not we can be sure to remind them.
Talking about speed, my phone is jumping from 3g to 3.5g which is a bad thing.
Will test it more thoroughly as maybe the phone is in need to be exchanged before the 30 days.

Yeah basically. My contract has been up for years but I'm happy enough with them. But ATT is just horrible in terms of being a leader in the industry. All they do is react and follow. They had the golden chance to roll out hspa first and blow the competition away. Instead they sit back and let t-mobile do that, then copy them and play catch up "me too." For years they've done this, copy every single thing Verizon does, never once thinking of doing it first.
Especially when hspa is a rather easy software upgrade to the tower base station. Such good bang for buck and easy to implement and boost speeds to 21Mbps. No instead they let t-mobile, the network that yesterday didn't even have 3g come in and make them look silly. Sigh.
I couldn't agree more with you lol. I guess my biggest concern is the simple fact that the desire HD says nothing about supporting hspa+. Yet all our roms and radios we are using are from that phone. I just have a hard time understanding how hspa+ will actually still work I guess.

I didn;t see anything at all actually for hspa+ in build.prop. Are you thinking about hsudpa?
From what I understand about how all this works, as long as you are on the right frequency, and have the correct setting in build prop, the radio version won't matter, unlike the Captivate, which supports more frequencies and only using a radio from the European SGS will give you "correct" HSUPA.

No. Setting ro.ril.hsdpa to 10 or 14 and up enables it. That is all it takes.

U Need To Sign Zizo79s Petition...

If u bought an Inspire,u need to sign his petition. Forget what all these AT&T apologizers/employees/stockholders/morons say. What AT&T is doing WRONG. How anyone with a whit of common sense could look at ATTs adverts about 4G and upgrades to the system like the completion of "backhaul" & other nonsence, and not see the false advertising,is an ignorant loser. I know I'm furious over ATT crippling the DesireHD,now that its finally on ATT!
Like I said, all u Inspire owners need to go sign.
NOBODY wants to hear from ANY of u ATT sympathizers. U probably have iphones w/pink Otterboxes!
That is messed up how at&t mutilates their phones. However, I find it ironic all the fuss about at&t's "fake 4g" when the other carriers made the same claims and labelled their stuff 3g when at&t was the one that actually had the closest thing. The tables are turned now is all. I would however sign a petition about mutilation of their phone's in general, not that it would matter. Switching carriers and stating that reason would come closer to getting their attention.

and to those that said i getting 4.5MB or higher on htc inspire! but it' so funny no-one able to prove it with youtube! haha
i hope someone complain to FCC about this ATT 4G BS!!
Way to take a post out of context. Read the whole post. You cut that quote off right before it showed I was clearly comparing 3g between carriers. If you're that unhappy, switch. All 4 of the main carriers finally all have decent android phones.

and really, there isn't any were yet that i've heard of confirmed "4G" actually working.
And just what do you expect this petition to do? Will AT&T all the sudden move up their 4g roll out? lol
Or do you want them to put out an apology add? lol
Or do you think you've been had by purchasing the phone? You have 30 days to return it.
Meh... AT&T has certainly taken liberties with their 4G advertising (as have others), but anyone who does any research knows this. As for the handicapping of speed, they are within their rights. It's all in the contract. Personally, I have been pretty happy with the speed. If you're not, there are other companies that will happily take your money.
Im not worried about it. I knew. Buying the phone that i wasn getting 4G anytime soon. Especially living where i do.

I agree with the OP said, we all know that their "4G" isnt delpoyed but why asell phones with the 4G sign on them. That isnt the main issue here, the big issue is the fact that if you don't have an iPhone, your chances are that AT&T crippled your upload speeds. This petition is getting a lot of attention (Just google it),
There's a thread on the ATT site that was started a long time ago. "Why is AT&T capping uploads on all non-iphones?" I didn't pay it no mind. Until I bought an Inspire! This is corporate favoritism in the worst way. This is WRONG. It may not be worth squat. But we should ALL sign it. Now.

[Q] Straight Talk and 3g for Sensation Help!

Hi all, I did a search and didn't get very far. Here's the deal I learned after buying my girlfriend and Tmobile Sensation 4G and putting it on a ST SIM(uses att service) that it doesn't have the 850mhz band that att uses for 3g. Is there any way possible to change the frequency to pick up atts 3g wether it be a radio/RILEY or a ROM that changes this. I don't think it is a hardware issue seeing as the galaxy s is able to change this setting easily. What I need to know is has anyone addressed this issue or found a work around? I am even willing to replace hardware if necessary. Maybe a Bell Canada radio/ril?? Currently we have Insert Coin ICS installed. Any help is appreciated! Thanks
Nope,
Maybe someone else will prove me wrong, but I don't believe there is any way to make a T-Mobile branded Sensation work on AT&T's 3G network. There were some rumors early on that this might be possible, but I don't think anyone has been able to make it happen.
There must be some way to access these network options to edit the frequency. If they can do it on some other phones maybe a Dev can get his hands on an RUU from the Canada Bell files and possibly find where this is hidden? There must be some way haha!
Plus 1 I want to know too just dropped tmob for changing contract and btw there changing everyone's April 5 th

Not great, not bad at all actually. Especially for the price.
People over on howardforums swear there are 100/mb/day or 2gb/month limits on data though. At which point they claim they either turn off your data or close your account altogether.
I use wifi most of the day so I don't care but your situation might be different. Tmobile prepaid is what I had before though. $60/month for 2gb @ 4G speed isn't bad.

LOL noob here
Looks ok I guess. I'm still a noob at reading those speed charts but I'll just take your word for it. The only problem I might have with them is , I'm scared they might just cancel my number completely or that i loose data completely. So would you recommend this or the t-mobile monthly $50? I'm paying 50 for my metro atm so I really don't want to pay more, I'll be glad with the same or a little bit less.

The thing is that on the $50 TMO plan you'll get 100mb of 4G and the rest will be 2G speed. Meaning that you'll struggle to play video like YouTube. That's why I recommended the $60 plan.

They have sims for TMO or ATT network.
Thanks guys! I ordered her a SIM from straight Talk for TMO. Should be here Tuesday. Anybody know how their voice/data service is in Michigan? I am spoiled by having excellent data with VZW but definitely pay for it.... Will she have worse service than with her current ST ATT SIM? Hope it goes well and they let me swap SIMS and keep her number!
