[Q]: Tried to install 3.2 OTA update on rooted xoom - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Wifi Xoom that had an OTA update to 3.1 then was rooted.
Now, I tried to OTA update to 3.2 while being rooted and now I'm stuck at the exclamation point screen. Is there any fix for this?
Any help or guidance would be appreciated! In the mean time, I'll keep searching...

Device does not update through OTA

This doesn't seem like a common problem, but I found a few people who got this issue.
My TF700 have been on 4.0.1 and it does not upgrade to 4.1 JB even though it has been released for a week. I have then used the custom method to force update to 10.4.4.16 - JB. However, I know 4.4.18 just came out and I am afraid it still would not update OTA.
Anyone has a solution for this??

Have to try to go into settings->about tablet-> check for update?? I assumed that your device is locked/rooted with pure stock JB, no modification, no system app freezing?

Yup checking for update has nothing
Before I upgraded to 10.4.4.16 the device was totally stock, and it just does not update for the longest time.
Since I had updated to 10.4.4.16, I have then unlocked, rooted. No mod, no system app freeze.
Still no update notice for 10.4.4.18

I didn't realized it was that and now I went back to read the All-In-One Guide For Asus Infinity thread detail; I do see that in the note. I am fine with doing manual updates but was just bothered the device doesn't function properly**
I guess now even the tablet will have to be manual updated OR eventually use custom rom :fingers-crossed:

Yup. Assuming you're into the stock experience and have the keyboard (thus appreciating the shortcut keys), CleanROM is eyeing you. Your 700 is behaving normally, so that's one problem out of the way.
When I come back to home, i saw that update is available. But I forgot temporary disabled root (ota root keeper). My device started update, but it stoped in bootloader (deat android with red triangle) My tf started without update, and now I can`t OTA (update is not available for you). Can I redownload update, and update soft one more time? How can I do this?

I had something kinda weird happen just now.
I originally unlocked and rooted the moment I got the tablet, and manually installed 10.4.4.16. Everything works great.
I just finished manually updating to 10.4.4.18 and after a reboot, it said I have a system update available, which was 10.4.4.16.....
[/doublerainbowvoice] Does this mean I still got an OTA even though I'm unlocked and rooted?

[Q] rooted droid maxx boot loops after ota attempt

I have a droid maxx on 12.15.15 update and rooted it using the telnet and adb way. I kept cancelling the last ota update becasue I wanted to make sure root was available. Anyway this morning i aciddently hit install now ;( It didn't install but now its stuck in boot loop. It powers up fine, but after everything loads a bout a minute later it says Power off...Shutting down.. and restarts and keeps boot looping. I've rooted all my other fons, but this is getting tricky. How can I fix this?? I don't mind installing ota if there is root availalble, but I just need my fon fixed! I'm on vacation 1400mi from home, but fortunately I have my old fon along. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You are bootlooping because the root method used on this phone removes the stock recovery, thus the phone keeps trying, and failing, to install the update. As far as I'm aware the only way you can get out of the bootloop is to boot into fastboot and re-flash stock 12.15.15 (luckily because the 4.4 update has not installed on your device you will be able to keep your lower firmware, and thus re-root). However I am not 100% sure this is the only solution, and this would wipe your phone as well. I recommend waiting for more responses or looking around for a possible other solution if you prefer to try to not wipe your phone....

I haven't had time to look around and find the thread, but I was able to find a thread that allowed me to FXZ using fastboot to restore 12.15.15 and restore everything, leaving your data intact. Worked like a charm when I was stuck in the bootloop. So, it's doable.
@droidrepair do you have titanium back up installed and are you booting into the os even if momentarily?

Bump, this problem is an exact replica of what I am currently experiencing. You do get to boot into the OS for a little while, but after about (maybe) 1/2 a minute, it says powering off and reboots.

Yes, but it was only to delete bloatware, there is no actual backup of what's on my phone. Additionally, I don't really care about recovering lost data, I just want to bring my phone to a working state.

That's ok. When you get to your os quickly go into titanium back find apk MotorolaOTA and freeze it. That should stop your bootloop. If it doesn't you may need to freeze an app called updater. Lemme know how it works out.

Don't take 4.4 OTA as there is no way to root it. You need to start the process on rooted 4.2.2 using the slapmymoto process nicely outlined here.

[Q] 4.4.3 update help?

So I've had my nexus 5 for the past couple months and was recently prompted to download the latest update, 4.4.3. The thing is, when the update is finished downloading and I'm told to reboot my phone to install it, I get an error message- the green android dude is on its back with a red exclamation point above it. I've reset my phone and attempted to reinstall the update, but no luck. Anyone else have this problem? How do I get around it and download the update?

I had the same problem but i was rooted so i thought that rooting messed something up,so i unlocked the bootloader and installed manually. But if you're running full stock then i don't know what causes the problem.
PS:I'm sorry if my english is not perfect,i hope you understand what i'm trying to say.
If you're rooted with a custom recovery, the OTA will not work.

Received an OTA today, any idea what it is?

I had an OTA update available this morning. It's only 51.3 MB so it can't be anything major. Maybe a stagefright fix? Anyway, I pulled it just in case anyone wants to check it out. I'm already on D80130B. I'm rooted with TWRP. Is there any easy way to install it without losing TWRP?
Here's the link for it: https://www.dropbox.com/s/5ast6zoe514ikjk/update.zip?dl=0
Is it 878 TMO/T-MOBILE(USA) V30c?
D80130c_00.kdz is 1.05 GiB as usual.

I thought stagefright fix too so I let it go for the heck of it. It installed fine and I didn't seem to lose root or anything. I ran a stagefright test and only 2 are blocked which I think is what it told me a couple months ago. I didn't see any obvious changes.

I do. I just ran it right from my running phone. I was in the middle of some work so I wasn't watching it but as far as I know it installed fine. If I check for updates now it says there are none, up to date.
Just tried to install the OTA (51.3 MB).
Phone rebooted, tried to install it and showed error.
Have to hold power button quite sometime to reboot the phone.

I noticed that it fixed all but one stage fright vulnerability.
I also just realized that it patched many of the current root solutions.

Oh really? So you lost root then?
I just switched to TMO and got a refurb LG G2 a couple of weeks ago. I stupidly took the OTA before rooting and then realized that many of the root exploits didn't work afterwards. Thanks to the brilliant devs at XDA, I did find a method that works: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/guide-root-method-lg-devices-t3129197
I'm a happy camper running CM 12.1 now!
I am half tempted to unroot using SuperSU unroot tool, see if I can apply the patch and see what happens... or has anyone tried this yet?

I'm not sure that would work. Being rooted doesn't usually prevent the manual installation of updates. The problem is whether or not you have a custom recovery. I believe the OTA needs the stock recovery to install.

Ok since you rooted yourself it's going to show the update. Roms like https://forum.xda-developers.com/sp...g900p-pk1-stock-deodexed-marshmallow-t3521415 the developer disable the update notice for that. Think there's a rule you can flash through twrp to disable that too but idk where it is. A it's somewhere I this forum but it's been a while since I could remember where

No you can't take the update unless you unroot. All the new updates for this phone are all security updates and that's it. There's no new features of your on 6.0.1. Anything past pca roms were just security updates. Sprint has been releasing new updates every month for this device but it's all security updates.
