[Q] 4.4.3 update help? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I've had my nexus 5 for the past couple months and was recently prompted to download the latest update, 4.4.3. The thing is, when the update is finished downloading and I'm told to reboot my phone to install it, I get an error message- the green android dude is on its back with a red exclamation point above it. I've reset my phone and attempted to reinstall the update, but no luck. Anyone else have this problem? How do I get around it and download the update?

I had the same problem but i was rooted so i thought that rooting messed something up,so i unlocked the bootloader and installed manually. But if you're running full stock then i don't know what causes the problem.
PS:I'm sorry if my english is not perfect,i hope you understand what i'm trying to say.

If you're rooted with a custom recovery, the OTA will not work.
See this OTA help thread...

Or you can flash 4.4.4 with fastboot and not worry about the OTA....guide for that here....

Good luck!

Guess I should've mentioned I rooted my device right out the box- I had a feeling that had something to do with it, which is why I reset my phone.I'll give your suggestion a shot.

[SOLVED] Soft Brick on rooted N5 running 4.4.2

All,
I got myself into a bit of pickle and could use some advice.
First, device information:
Nexus 5 Hammerhead D821(E)
Hw version rev_11
Bootloader version HHZ11k
Secure boot enabled
lock state unlocked
I think it's 4.4.2 or 4.4.3. I haven't installed KitKat.
Also running some xposed modules and Teamwin recovery but haven't flashed a rom or kernel
The issue
About an hour ago I got into the com.android.systemui. The screen keeps flashing and I'm lucky if I can power off the device. No chance of starting an app or getting into settings. When the device is powered up I can not access file folders through Explorer, in bootloader the device is not even recognized.
I figure I need to do a factory reset but seeing that I can't reach settings I don't know how to do this exactly (I assume it's OK to do with a rooted device that's still running the custom ROM?) Should I do it through TWRP? And if so, how do I proceed? I've read a few threads that deal with similar issues but I haven't found a manual that I feel fits completely which make some uncomfortable to try.
Thanks very much in advance,
T
Also, I just found this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...l-06-03-14-one-click-factory-restore-t2513937
Would that be the right way to go?
First of all there isn't such thing as a "soft brick" It's either bricked or it's not.
You said you haven't "installed KitKat", well 4.4.x is KK. You sure you know what you're doing?
I suggest you see the first link of my signature and read some threads before you proceed with doing anything further to your device. You should be able to reflash factory images.

Thanks for the swift reply Lethargy,
I referred to softbrick as in I can still boot but it gets into a loop I can't get out of. Apologies for the confusion re KitKat, I meant I hadn't installed 4.4.4.
I actually just ran the One click recover in the thread I mentioned and it worked like a charm, can use the phone again so marking this as solved!

That would be a "bootloop" or non-boot, not a "soft-brick".

Cool. But I do still suggest you have a look at various threads in the first link of my signature to learn a little more.

[Q] It's been 4 days and I still can't fix this bootloop!

Okay I had an L rom for about a month maybe less. Then Friday night, it just turns off and now all I see is flying colors.
In the ask any question thread I asked and some really awesome dudes were trying to help me but all of their solutions were in vain.
I used method 1 and 2 of the return to stock.
I made sure I followed EVERY step. Still nothing, it's been trying to boot for far far too long.
I really need my phone, and I'm not sure what else to do. I can't jump because I'm broke and that tamper flag is up.
Can someone help me? I have teamveiwer if it helps.
Also I should say I get several errors I think, like no recovery.sig or boot.sig when I clearly just flashed them.
Why do I get these errors? Is nobody else having the same problem as me? I'm getting really frustrated and to anyone who helps me solve my problem will get my oatmeal raisin cookie recipe (Not kidding, that's serious).
Please somebody help me. Ill be constantly refreshing this page so if you have any questions I will answer them.
Have you booted into the bootloader and used a Google bat file to flash the device completely clean?
Sent from my Android 5.0 Nexus 5
Yes
Follow http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2513701
Download "15 second adb installer" if you're having issues with adb or fastboot commands
Ignore the .sig errors
Worst case scenario flash each file one by one if flash all.bat doesn't work
Post up what happens after you run flash all.bat too
Have you tried flashing the KitKat factory images instead of Lollipop?

Either the op fixed the phone and is now celebrating by getting very drunk, or he smashed his phone out of frustration and doesn't care anymore lol.
Either way he's not refreshing this page constantly like he said
I didn't get the insurance or the warranty or nothing
No its still broken but I end up having to help my friend cause he car broke down all day.
No I didn't really want kitkat again, I really wanted to keep L. Ill try it when I can though.
I did both ways, flash all and flash manually but neither worked.

[Q] Error with OTA update on Stock Android

So I'm running completely stock, never rooted Android 5.0 on my Nexus 5. I got the 5.0.1 update today and when I go to install, it gives me the dead android pic with "error". Anybody else having the same issue? Also, would me enabling developer options have anything to do with it?
P.S. Already cleared my cache partition and it's still giving me the error.
Oh sweet jesus, how many more threads like this we going to have.

Except, like I said, I didn't. I did not root or unlock the bootloader or play around with the phone at all, strictly for this reason. I didn't want to go through the struggle of factory resetting my device every now and then. The closest thing to "modifying" the phone was me unlocking developer settings and I was asking if that could have something to do with it.
Every other thread on the forums has to do with people rooting so no, it's not like one of the millions of other threads.
Describe more.
The best way to update is by flashing the factory image in fastboot, i don`t trust/hate OTA`s personaly
I updated from kitkat to Lollipop with no issues from the OTA update. That was really recent and I haven't changed anything having to do with the system since then. Yet the 5.0.1 update is giving me the error message.
I'm trying to avoid doing a factory reset as that was the main reason that I've kept the phone completely stock. I figured not rooting the phone would let me update in peace and, since it's a nexus, it's been enough to handle my needs without any customization.

Just double checked and nope, bootloader is locked. Yeah :/ I was trying to see if it's an issue with anybody else on completely stock devices. So far mine is a no go, even though the 5.0 update worked flawlessly. Why would the 5.0 update go through, yet the 5.0.1 believes the system has been modified..?

Well, there's a way to get the ota but it is going to be tedious. It involves rooting with towelroot, then using bootunlocker from the play store. That'll allow you to unlock the bootloader without wiping your device. Then you'll need to flash the system, boot, and recovery image with fastboot from the 5.0 factory image. Then do the ota.

May as well skip the ota if you're going to go through this process.

Or wait for the next time the question is asked.
Should be any minute now.
Thanks! I may just wait until the next update and see if there's a chance it'll work. Or I may just have to do a fresh new install which I am not looking forward to at all Lol. But thank you for your help!
Uhhhh, ok. So I'm not exactly sure what happened. I figured I'd give the OTA another try because why not...and it worked I noticed it downloaded a bigger file too, 30ish mb as opposed to the 13mb OTA that would give me an error. Not sure if I got sent a wrong update file or what, but if your issue comes close to what I experienced, just keep trying the OTA update. I'm also on T-Mobile (phone bought directly from T-Mobile) in case that makes any difference.

Hey, I got you. I had the exact same problem yesterday... It was infuriating.
So boot to TWRP, plug your phone into your computer, then in TWRP go to advanced and hit enable MTP. This should allow your computer to access the G3's files after you've connected it. If you can't, google for the LG PC drivers for your model (it's easy).
Here's the zip you need to place on your device:

Then just flash it and you're golden!

@Jaison33056 Which OTA update caused the boot loop, the KitKat 4.4.2 D85010F or the one for Lollipop? If the one for Lollipop you may have inadvertently found a way to have a custom recovery installed with stock Lollipop firmware! Sorry if this is already general knowledge. Just got my D850 LG G3 and trying to learn all there is to have it running a custom recovery with a rooted stock Lollipop ROM ).

The OTA bootloop was caused by the 5.0 Lollipop update. After using the fix from citizen insane it was clear that I was still on 4.4.2 KitKat. The phone quickly attempted to force me to update to lollipop again, so again I was forced to use citizen insane fix again, with the addition of shutting off OTA updates after the fix was completed through the hidden menus in the phone app. Then I quickly flashed Cyanogenmod 12 nightlies to avoid the dreaded OTA update yet again! What a pain in the ass, but on the bright side I absolutely love CM 12! My phone has never performed better. Thanks for everyone's help on XDA!
Hey Jaison does your picture messaging work after flashing CM12? Mine stopped working but texting and phone calls still work.

First, you posted in the wrong section! This section is for development projects.
Also, have you installed a different version of CM12s? The zip is not flashing because it sees a modification to the firmware you're running, or it's a bad download .

Here try this, flash cyangen's recovery and try updating again. I don't know if that will do anything but it's worth a try!
It was told a zillion times. Either cyanogen recovery or download the full rom update instead of the delta OTA (full can be flashed via TWRP).
Look around the oneplus forums, I had the same problem. I managed to find the file and flash it with twrp without having to do the whole rom. The battery got better along with touch screen fixes
