I have had the same problem. My wife gets frustrated with the tiny microscopic pics she receives from me.

I believe there may be third party apps in the market that will allow you to do that. I'm not sure though. Can you do so with a google voice number?
There is an app called Skebby Free MMS in the market that says it sends text and mms messages via wifi. It's only free if you send it to someone else that is using the same app though. Otherwise, it will cost you money.
There is also WhatsApp and it is free for a year.

Maybe you should begin learning how to form proper question then. Do a search on the Market for WiFi MMS or pay the 10 bucks a month.
thanks everyone for your help I'll. let you know how it turns out.

[Q] Cannot Text Past 160 Characters

Problem: The stock 2.3.5 messaging app stops me at 160 characters because that's when it is suppose to automatically split the text, but it stops me and will not allow me to type anymore. I cleared the messaging app data and it still does the same thing. I have to send 2 separate text messages, which I may ad is very very very annoying.
Situation:
1. I'm on full stock Nexus S 4G 2.3.5. I'm not rooted.
2. I am using Google Voice and I have updated to the latest version, and I have set it to use my messaging app. I am using the stock 2.3.5 messaging app because that's the one I like.
3. I have isolated the problem to the 2.3.5 stock messaging app. I unported my number from Google Voice, and uninstalled it, and still the messaging app will stop my at 144 characters.
Help me? Is this a known issue? I haven't tried restoring to defaults, doing an RTN reset, or going back to 2.3.4 yet, but I will if that'll fix it. I do not want to use third party application either. I like the stock app and I find this very stupid that this is the only phone that I have encountered this on. I remember this working before, but for some reason I can't anymore. I think I was still on 2.3.4 before though.
Please? Help me out...
You can find a modified mms.apk from cm7 here that allows over 160 characters with automatic split.

I don't think so. My stock mms apk splits messages just fine. Only I have i9023, don't know if it's different with SPH-D720
This is a known issue and one of the things I hated... As stated above there are some flashable mms files that have the limit removed.. But of course I think root and recovery would be needed.. The file I am using works awesome.. So they def do fix this issue.

Then it isn't splitting correctly.

put that in your system/app/ folder with root explorer or adb shell

Okay thank you for your help. It seems that sprint isn't built it automatically split for the nexus, and when you remove the limitation it can't handle it causing the corruption. The messaging program itself had to have a built in thread splitting setting.

Mine did that too at first.. If you change the setting in the messaging app to split the text or add the split counter, it works.. Mine now show 2 of 2 at the end, but it works without the jumbled letters...

You come back and tell me that when six months later you still don't have Ice Cream Sandwich. Why not wait for the Nexus Prime.

Try unistalling and reinstalling chomp.
Sent from Soundwave aboard Nemesis.
Ive tried that and when i reboot my phone will be fine for about a day and will then again stop recieving the texts

Are you using Juice Defender? Just a shot in the dark but I've had issues with it before.
Did you change any settings for data, apn, or anything phone related? I'm using CM7.2 RC1 and have no issues at all. I am not using Chomp.
Maybe unistall Chomp for a day and see what happens. Perhaps it isn't compatable?
Actually i am using jd and i just uninstalled it which freed up alot of space and my texts are working fine now thanks

Question about messaging

Does anyone have any insight as to why the stock messaging app would have me download just a regular text message? Doesn't happen every time but enough to get on your nerves.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using XDA
Never had that happen unless it was a mms (picture)
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA
One thing that did come to mind is it seems to happen when someone sends me a text from an iPhone. Could it be that the Android knows it's superior and rejects the text from the inferior iPhone?

+1000000 hahahaha
mine does that but when its a txt over 160 char long
then it will promp me to DL and comes out like a regular txt
other txts less then 160 char are fine tho
I've never had that happen but if its a problem you can try go SMS, chomp, or handcent.

Check with them if they are using iMessage or something like that. I remember hearing about a texting app on iPhones that uses data and allows iPhone users to text for free.

Alternative SMS?

So I've been thinking about dropping my SMS/MMS bundle plan to safe a little money. There are some free apps in the Market to text for free with data. Which do you recommend? I am currently testing Pinger, which is great. The only flaw I see is that I'm not able to text with the original number I also use for calling (which creates confusion with my friends and family.) Also, when I'm on Edge the app doesn't load/refresh for new messages. Any body find a (near) perfect alternative?
Thanks

Doesn't that require people to use the app as well? I use it for international texting with my brother but he also uses the app, can you send to a dumb phone and receive from the same person?
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Nope. The other end should have whatsapp too. But its better than juggling two numbers, one for calls and the other for text.
I have free global texting so I hardly use whatsapp even.

Doesn't that app also require the person receiving the message to have it installed? And does it use the native number? Hmm. Google voice seemed nice, but I couldn't understand how it worked and doesn't support MMS.

I use Viber. It's an all in one and it's free and no adverts!!
People that you message do require it though as of course it uses Wifi or your Data Plan!
Also this allows to MMS/SMS in one shot also your can call people with this app. Again all using data so it's a VoIP app.
I tested the calling feature and it comes in quite clear! SMS with it is good also.
Hope this is somewhat of what you were looking for...
