Today I had my sensation in my backpack for an hour or two. When I took it out, I realiezd it was VERY hot (Maybe 40 degrees, but not just in one place, all around the phone...) and the screen wouldn't turn on. I then opened it, removed battery and reinserted it. Then the device booted. I checked my battery status, and it had dropped by about 40%. Also, the battery usage shows that WiFi was turned on until the point where the battery dropped. But I'm pretty sure I had turned it off (Using the HTC widget). Have you experienced anything similar yet? Do you think this problem could be WiFi-related? I hope it doesn't happen again... Phone is only two weeks old. I didn't try any overclocking or the like.
never heard of this problem before

Ok I have searched and not found anything like this yet so I am going to ask. I know the phone has battery problems all around for a lot of people. Mine seems to be fine when it is on. It can sit and idle powered on all day locked and stay at full charge. It runs about 10 hours with minimal use and maybe 8 hours with some data use and a few calls and texts. Now I am experiencing a wired problem. When I go to work we cannot have cell phones. I leave my phone in my locker and power it off. After my 12 hour shift is up at work I come back to the phone with a dead battery? What could be causing this? And has anyone else noticed this issue?
defective battery? pull the battery and see if it still does it. If it does, gotta be a defective battery.. if it doesn't do it when pulled, you're not shutting off the phone maybe?
Yesterday I tried leaving the battery out. I took the battery out and let it sit 12 hours and it still had full charge when I put it back in. When I go to work I long press on the power/lock button and choose Power off then I watch it shut down and it just dies before I come back. I wish I could watch it the whole time. Today I left the phone off for around 6 hours and came back and it was fine though. Maybe it gets turned on some how at work. I have no idea. Or when I go to power it on it is just the issue where the phone isn't reading battery % correctly and it just says 0%
Seems like a battery driver issue or a defective battery? definitely call t-mobile and check if it's the battery. I've had some issues as well, but not that bad.
Weird.
So the phone powers off after you turn the screen on and it won't come back on? Try putting the phone in airplane mode.
Also, I'm assuming you are running the stock roms?
Might also want to check into a battery monitor to see if any 1 thing is pulling it down.
I think it might just be the battery driver. Sounds like the phone is in suspend so it doesn't power off properly until the screen is turned on and is revived, updating the battery % status, seeing 0%, and turning off.
CM7 fixed the wonky battery issue a few nights ago. Right now, I think a current CM based rom is the best bet as it has most of the drivers fixed. I'ved used mine pretty heavily today, unplugged at 8am and I just got a 15% battery warning at 11:30pm. It will usually last until I go to bed at midnight but I might want to play with it some more.
I have a Motorola Droid 2 Global running CM7. It works fine, other than the usual quirks of a custom ROM, but it gave me a bit of a scare yesterday. Here's what happened:
- Battery was low, 28%-ish, because I hadn't charged it for 2 or 3 days
- Plugged USB from the netbook to charge it (I lost its AC adapter somewhere in the junkyard that I call my home)
- Unplugged it after only a few minutes because I had to go out in a hurry, battery had reached 30 or 31%. Dropped it from a height of about 50cm while doing so; a bundle of wires cushioned the fall (the phone has survived *much* harder falls)
- Stayed out about 20 minutes, nothing unusual to report, phone working fine
- Came home, put it on the desk, went about my business for about half an hour
- Found it blinking red, only noticed because a notification (stupid Astrid Task reminding me I should use it) made the screen light up
- Grabbed it and it was *hot*, hotter than it had ever gotten before and way more than anything this small has a right to get. Battery was down to 1%.
- Fearing a short I panicked and pulled the battery, then left everything to cool down.
Well, a short it wasn't otherwise it would have stopped working entirely; rather I think for some reason all of the hardware was working 100% constantly, though I'm surprised at just how much heat that can put out. There was nothing weird about the phone's behaviour up until this. A software bug? It had a really long uptime, something like a month and a half without being turned off (I keep it in airplane mode at night)... I've heard that Android in general and custom ROMs in particular can freak out if they're left unrebooted for very long. Otherwise it would have to be a hardware problem, but it's a weird hardware problem that leaves a phone working even while it bakes itself.
I'm recharging it right now and no abnormal heating is going on.
W, I ask, TF?
I feel your panic. My HTC Sensation can heat up even from browsing the web to around 40 degrees centigrade Sometimes eve too hot to hold.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e
Got an Optimus 2x that gets way hotter when using than the Desire it replaced. It also has a cheap Chinese battery which I strongly suspect does not work as it should. Perhaps your battery is giving problems and needs to be replaced or there was a temporary problem with the charging circuitry?
Running CROMI 3.1 with no problems since it came out.
This morning, I unplugged it from it's charger, (it's in a leather case, with out the dock attached) & brought it with me to work as usual.
a couple hours later, I opened the cover, & found that it was on, & warm. (at the home screen)
checked & had no apps running.
Battery useage page showed that WiFi, & Bluetooth were the top two processes using the battery, with Screen next on the list.
In less than 3 hours, it went from a freshly charged battery, to 53%
I've always left WiFi & Bluetooth on before, & never had them use my battery like that.
I'm assuming they were going mostly due to the screen being on, but I can't figure out why the screen would stay on like that. It's never done that before.
Anyone seen anything like this before?
Could be a rogue app, or service, as the Android battery report is pretty bad. Install BetterBatteryStats from here and let it cycle for a bit. I suspect it won't happen again all that often, but at least you'll have something to work with when it does to perform some amateur forensics on.
Any specific installs you have done lately?
Hey guys, I've been experiencing some issues about my Tab 2's battery. It all started some hours ago.
I was chatting with a friend, then it suddenly turned off. I knew something was wrong, because it wasn't even near 4% yet.
Plugged it to the charger and couldn't turn it on before waiting at least 10 minutes. When I turned it on, I took the cable off and quickly opened an app to show battery stats. Something caught my eye.
With 17%, the battery had almost 3000mV, and that was really weird (I've heard it should be around 3370mV at this percentage).
What should I do? Calibrate my battery is a choice?
As of maybe a couple of months, my phone shuts off almost immediately after getting to 20% it turns off and when plugged starts charging from 16% or so. Any idea what may be causing this and how to fix it?
I have the same issue mate. It happened twice for me. Was using Snapchat and the battery drained down to 19% and then it suddenly showed 0% and the phone shut down. And then after I charged it for a bit, it showed around 20%
I have same problem here, guess factory reset might helps.
Same issue on my friend's Honor 8.
Mine turns off at random percentages. Sometimes it happens at 20%, 10% and most recently 67%. I'm wondering if changing the battery would fix the issue
same issue here disappeared for like 2 months and it happened today
This suddenly happened to me today, I was using Snapchat and I took a pic, was writing a caption to send to my friends and all of a sudden it dropped to 0% and shut off, even though it was already at low battery I know It still had enough life for me to be able to send the snap and listen to music. What sucks is that I didn't look at the battery percentage before It turned off but when I turned it back on it was at 13%, even though when I tried turning it on from before it kept telling me 0% and shutting off repeatedly
i noticed that when i plugged in the charger and checked the recents all the apps opened were showing up.....looks like its doing soft reboot but cant complete the reboot......smh!!!
Same problem here

Rooted stock
I realize that it happens when it's really cold outside. It happened to me a second time today when I was outside in the cold, so I guess the phone turns off to prevent anything from happening internally, because it shut off at around 50% of battery and when I turned it back on it wasn't 0% like it had told me
I'm switching out the battery today I'll let you guys know if it fixes the issue
No root till now fully stock.
Well replacing the battery fixed the issue. I also deleted battery stats once it was charged to 100%
Same issue here. My device goes from 20% to 1% in about 2 seconds. And then when i charge the phone, it shows charging from 19%. It happens all the time.
Hi, had same but my first time died when I was flying drone with it, it was at 17% of bat. I was so nervous that I lose my drone that I forgot to check what was the problem with bat. Now when I was trying to film my daughter skiing after 2min outside of my pocket it turned off although bat. was at 78% and tem. outside was -3*C. Yesterday I've send it on warranty, I let you know what they say (if anything). Mine H8 is stock no root.
Wander is there any app than can check number of cycles of battery, this way I will know for sure if Service replaced battery or only told that it was replaced

Did you guys need root to delete the battery stats?

Did the service center fix the issue?
Yes, they replaced battery, screen and frame, actually they only left old back panel and MB. Screen was replaced because of dead pixels (but I didn't saw any before). After a year, I think I have same issue with battery again but this time no warranty anymore ;(
