I've forgotten what a froyo based rom was like since I've been flashing CM7 based roms for about a month now.
I'm trying to remember...what are some of the benefits and deficits of running a CM7 based rom as opposed to a froyo based custom rom (seeing as roms like EB and Sinister have a lot of the stock bugs fixed and speed/battery optimized)?
benefits: theme choices, cm settings (including screen-off animation), dsp manager, lockscreen choices, led notifications, notification power widget
deficits: no a2dp, no high def through hdmi, low quality camera shots, battery life
Can you think of anything that would add to this list on either side of the fence? And if I'm incorrect about something, please let me know.

Are there any particular reason to flash into RevoHD or LeeDroid or any other custom Rom, beside the factor of being able to o/c the cpu?
a list of reason would be nice.
Virtuous because of the advanced quick settings and ram optimizations. You have the option to turn off auto rotate, adjust screen brightness, media volume, and ringtone volume all from the status bar. Can't tell you how much of a time saver it is for me. It's stable, and they are always developing new kernels, though stock will be your most stable option until source code is released. I'm sure this thread is about to flow over with other opinions but if you are looking for speed and stability in a Sense ROM, you should atleast give Virtuous a go.
Likewise with Android Revolution HD.
Speed is much better than stock, no stupid bloat, the option of a 'sense-less' install (not exactly stock, but an alternative nonetheless), in-built auto OC (if you're into that kind of thing) and forced GPU Acceleration (smoothes some animations), as well as very good battery life.
Coupled with the UNITY kernel, I find it a good combination for everyday use.
NOT MY WORK
Galnet MIUI ICS (2.11.26) is our experimental builds for the Ice Cream Sandwich framework being introduced into MIUI. These builds don’t look any different, however they do come with some of the ICS benefits such as power management and ram management.

Power management fully implemented from ICS
Repair to Sensor management in Debug mode
UI Improvements
Implemented Extended Settings
Implemented 4 Way Reboot
Added ICS lockscreen to default theme
Added ICS transaction effects
Improved Sharpness and Display quality on I9000 and I9100 builds
Added ICS Keyboard with Vibration Settings
Improved 3D support throughout rom (All Devices)
Correct issues where lockscreen clock would randomly freeze (Defy)
Improved camera response (Shutter) speeds
4 Way Reboot Included
Other Information
The battery calibration will kick in straight away once flashing this rom, therefore you will find that the battery drains quicker than before. Please allow it to drain to around 5% before recharging fully back to 100% for the perfect calibration.
Updater may FC on first boot, don’t worry about it, as it will work correctly once this occurs.
Phone call recording (This is something that we won’t support due to legal issues within the UK, please don’t expect it).
File Size: 116.87MB
Languages Supported: English
Note: These builds are only a framework merge, they do not contain any APKS from the ICS builds.
1. Boot into bootmenu by pressing volume down when device flashes a blue led at bootup.

how do you install this?
Its zip file and install it using Recovery ... same procedure as we use for MIUI and CM7
I just installed and everything works fine, the only downside is that being MIUI is not ics interface
Yes I agree but its a good experience to use ICS
downloading now. some screenshots would be nice too
Has anyone tried it yet. I am in the office right now so couldn't try it by myself. Need some valuable feedback on this rom. Is it stable? Does every thing works alright? Whats the difference?
nothing related to ICS, its a local MIUI version, with some updated features. Not bad, except galery app FC
But the Black Ice theme is sweet
You mean it is no different then the regular MIUI rom???
You guys already migrated to ICS and still you dont support 720p recording which GB supports.. This is one of the reason I dislike CM7 based roms.
Can you please upload the stock-version of the port or isn't it working actually?

You are wrong. The Defy doesnt support officially HD recordning with or w/o the GB.

Not officially but it is possible on the GB ROM's with RED lense. That is the only reason i allso do not use CM or MIUI yet. I would love to use CM or MIUI when they have 720p recording.
there are no changes .. looks like the same rom..
I need a Froyo SBF to use this? Anybody notice any battery improvement?
Thanks!
So it's a rom-based ICS or Gingerbread?
The ROM isn´t available in SPANISH?
If anybody could translate...
Another question: Could I use the "Pack de traducción" from the beta deodexed?
Thanks!=)
Only framework added i think. They say that haven,t added any visual things
Tried this rom. Didn't find anything different from regular Miui rom. According to me this is a fake ICS rom. Only the build number is being changed which I think can be easily done by editing build.prop
Sent from my MB525 using Tapatalk
installed it, but it doesnt show any networks???
nor does it connect to wifi
what to do?
Hi,
I know that I should probably post this to the specific developer thread, but I am new to this forum and do not have enough posts to do that. The problem that I have is with all the CM7 based roms (Eagleblood, Hellfire, MIUI, etc) Whenever I am recording a video with my phone in the vertical position (portrait), the video always come up side way (for both front and back camera). However, this is working correctly with 2.3.3 OTA based rom (Weapon, Bionix, etc.). Does any one know there is a fix for this on the CM7 based roms. I really like the customization with CM7 based roms.
Thanks,

My last device with an unlocked bootloader was the Sholes. Therefore the last version of CM I am familiar with is 7. There were several features that I thought made CM stand out that are not included in the current CM10 nightlies:
Custom shortcuts for the homescreen
All-out precision control of the auto-brightness behavior, and a feature to define the brightness of "Dim"
Render FX for potential battery savings on LED screens (Render only the red channel for eg.)
User agent selection in Browser menu
Are these features obsolete? Were they deemed too esoteric for CyanogenMod?
CM10 just came out, they will get devices stable before adding bells and whistles...
i would prefer a strong RIL over any feature right now
Are you implying that the features I listed are all present in CM9? If any of them were cut in CM9 it's probably safe to assume they're out for good. I never used CM9 which is why I must ask.
Hello,
I don't know if it's a question or just a complaint.
Looking at all threads, I see a billion ROM based on CyanogenMod or AOSP. But for stock, there's one thread: The one from Lost101. Fortunately, these are good quality ROM, with the essential (debloat, little bug fixes, some optimizations, root).
But it's too bad there are not others ROM, which add some customization: statusbar icons/clock, LED notifications settings, volume key behavior for example. These options are available in CM indeed, but CM is not usable for everybody because of some bugs that only power users can deal with. Stock ROM is more stable and uses less battery, several reports confirm this.
I know there's a module called Xposed. But I'm not convinced I should add another libraries layer (Linux layer + android layer + Google layer + Motoroga layer) just for some optimizations.
So why nobody (I meant developer/cooker) wants to personalize stock ROM ?
This is the reason why I started the Stock ROM Collections; for people to use as a base for their own ROMs.

because there's no source code available for stock motorola rom. It's very hard to modify code that already has been compiled. But still some guys do this for example @xpirt and his gpe modpacks are contain a lot of modification in addition to stock gpe rom.
But customs aren't so bad if you find stable build. I've been for a couple of months on euphoria rom and now I've flashed CM 12.1 snapshot and it's incredibly stable in my opinion. No bugs I found so far. And it's definitely better then stock one. Battery life the same, performance is higher. I had always face google start launcher redraws and music playback stopping when using chrome on stock 5.1 roms. That's the reason I moved to customs.
Xpirt mods look nice indeed. Too bad he did not do that for stock roms (no GPE).
I remember of my Galaxy SII, based on stock, despite being already compiled, there were a lot of customisations.
For CM, I already tried it, without success.
It's possible to port Timescape (Xperia UI) to the Moto G 4G ?
C'est possible de porter Timescape sur le Moto G 4G ?

What would be the point if opportunities exist to build a ROM from source code?
Because stock ROM = stable + good battery = good for grandma
CM or AOSP = some problems + less battery = NO good for grandma.

You missed out qualifiers...
Code:
[Some] stock ROM = stable + good battery := good for grandma
[Some] CM or AOSP = some problems + less battery := NO good for grandma
There also exists..
Code:
[Some] CM or AOSP = stable enough + good enough battery := good for grandma
[maybe BEST for her]
