HTC ThunderBolt and EVO 4G price thoughts? - General Questions and Answers

I wonder...the ThunderBolt is almost identical to the EVO 4G, and yet it costs $249.99, the EVO 4G, is now $99.99, and 1 GHz is now considered low-mid range. WTF? Same with the DROID Charge, $299.99 for a fake S2? Don't get me started with the Revolution...

The TB and other phones have newer Gen processors so you know.

Does that make them worth $150-200 more?

Verizon also has higher monthly rates and no longer offers unlimited data.
If you can get good Sprint coverage in your area, it's no contest.

Thunderbolt has more RAM the newer snapdragon and newer 205 gpu

The Evo 4G is sluggish and slow at everything, its processor is much older and not near as good as the Thunderbolts. I use a Evo 4G daily and have played with friend's Thunderbolts. The thunderbolt is incredibly faster at everything. I can't wait to ditch my Evo... It should not take 10 seconds to open the messages app.

Adreno 205 vs Adreno 200. 65 vs 45nm process. LTE 700MHZ > WiMax 2100(?) with better building penetration, speed, and latency. Verizon is priced darn high though

Can you really tell that much difference,, between a thunderbolt and inspire?? i liked the 99$ fo sho

If you could use both side-by-side on the same network, the difference would be negligible. But you would definitely notice the difference between verizon LTE and at&t's "fastest 4G network in america"

Its Verizon.
They are insanely overpriced.

Tough deal.
Thunderbolt hardware is better for sure but not worth that much extra in my opinion.

I think its BS then they come out with a new phone every month

Evo fanboy. Samsung devices are 10x more smoother, and the screen is definitely not over saturated. But I have to agree, the tbolt is way overpriced. And the revolution is a wannabe g2x.

Need help picking a phone?

I previously had a Vibrant, and loved it. Unfortunately I had a pretty intense water accident with it (sat in a jacuzzi for 10 min before realizing it was in my pocket). I am eligible for an upgrade and am torn on phones. I have to get a phone by the 25th, so I can't wait for the Hercules, so I'm wondering, should I look at the Sensation, SGS4G or G2X?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I would recommend that you go to a T-Mobile store and check them all out.
All three of them are different, out of the three though I preferred the G2x since I like it stock.
I had the SGS4G and although it was a good phone I think that the G2x is a better phone all around. Tetra Dual core, HD recording, unlocked bootloader, stock, great screen, hdmi port, and build quality.
Hope that helps

I'd recommend waiting on the Hercules IF you can.

I would recommend that you go to a T-Mobile store as well. If you are not good with dealing things, do not go for the g2x. Don't get me wrong,I love my phone. It's an amazing phone,but you have to do little work on it. If you like sense, go for the sensation, if you like games? I would suggest to go with the g2x.
But it all comes down to you, buddy. Go to a store and try them out to see if you like which better.
if you cant wait for the hercules than get the g2x because its almost the same price as the sgs4g but daul core, since sensation sucks its only using one core but good gpu. G2X ftw because of performance and price.

I was pretty upset when I found out. Especially since I was planning on selling my Charge to buy the GSII, then selling the GSII to buy the Prime.

Is it really? I've only used a single core phone before(they load perfect on the Charge with those godly 4g speeds) and if cores on phones are anything like a CPU then they are wasted. Cores are used for multi-tasking plenty of applications or single-tasking core intensive applications and as far as I know there aren't any apps that would require both cores.

Where did you get that info? I'd say that the Charge is probably the best selling 4G phone on Verizon, and if it isn't, then it is definitely the 2nd best selling 4G phone.
The Charge is selling perfectly fine. Its not a blockbuster, but its not a flop either. Its expensive, so that's one thing to consider when looking at the Tbolt. I think the extra money is worth the gorgeous screen on the Charge. Considering I spend a heafty percentage of my time staring at the screen while I use my phone, I consider the screen the second most important component of the phone nipping at the heels of the radios. Motorola has the best radios.... but they don't have an lte device on vzw... yet.

Dual core makes browsing better because it can multi-load 2 things at once on web pages. For example it can load the web script on one core and flash on the other all at the same time. LTE and dual core combined make browsing spectacular. Go try the new Galaxy Tab. It's awesome.

Well, it's not EXACTLY like that, but you get the point. Dual cores just beat the crap out of single cores. My dad's X2 scores like 2500 on Quadrant bone stock with little ram left. My Charge and OG Galaxy Tab are both single core Hummingbirds...and they have NOTHING on the X2, even OC'd and with Voodoo. If you pick up a dual core device you will instantly see the difference. It's smooth as butter.
However, manufacturers had an early problem of the LTE radio toasting dual core processors. My bet is the interference of the 800mhz radio, but i'm no professional. I believe this problem is pretty much solved now.

IMO the sensation really isn't anything special. The screen on it sucks and its not that fast for it being a dual core phone. I played with the epic touch gs2 yesterday....and now that's a phone to drool over. That right now is the only phone out that's worth an upgrade from the mt4g. Again this is just my opinion.

I've heard some bad things about the Sensation, but I think the sluggish speed is caused by the async Snapdragon that Qualcomm made. Both CPUs won't be on unless they're both needed and I'm guessing that doesn't work really good in Gingerbread, so perhaps on 1 core is active. When the Exynos or Tegra 2 the cores are both on all the time, so they should be faster, although they still clock up and down as normal. The screen in lacking, but it's no S/Amoled or IPS or Retina. HTC doesn't really produce nicer screens like the competition, they use S-LCD or LCD in their phones, not sure if they have any other tech ATM.
Well, I can agree on this. I've never been a fan of MyTouch models, but T-Mo forced me. I've been from a T-Mo G1 (Dream), to a T-Mo G2 (Desire Z), then to a samsung Galaxy S 4g and when it got stolen, the assurant would only leave me with a MyTouch 4g. Really can't compare the screen, but hey, I'm more than pleased. I'm quite impressed this phone doesn't have that much of a great feedback from T-Mo. :/ Oh well.

Sorry was it hard for you to comprehend?
DhD = Desire HD (GSM)
TB = Thunderbolt (CDMA)
2GS = Second Generation Spandragon
So technically Inspire HD (GSM-US) is equivalent of Desire HD (GSM-EU). Since we real pro die hard SmartPhone user know HTC owns Moto and SamSUX, so that's another subject of its own.
Now the point I was making is as you being home user you yourself do not need or dual core mCPU yet. So MT4G is same spec as Thunderbolt (yes I'm aware of the screen and nand diff). Thus last of its kind not failed attempt to upgrade us to dual core when Android framework so far utilizing only cpu0 as cpu1 thread is most not used as OS and App is not using it yet.

Most likely, never had the chance to check. The phone got stolen a month after bought so I could barely play around with it. It's not usual of me to root a phone the same day I get it; I stay with root for a few days, and in this case, a month. Now with the MT4G, no way I was gonna stay with stock for a month, no way. |: hahaha.

And any upgrade would just be an upgrade to the sgs2. So by your logic it would just be a vibrant+++. The sgs2 is the best phone I have owned. And I have had a lot of them. Bigger, better screen, much more storage, nfc, dual core, better camera, possible future lte capabilities, and the list goes on. How are these just tweaks here and there?

I used to own the S 4G, then the S II (T-Mobile), now the Note (International). My advice is to skip the S II and get the Note. The Note international version is expensive and won't work with T-Mobile 3G of course, or you can wait for the Note to come to US (it will likely be with ATT, hopefully T-Mobile).
The S II T-Mobile version isn't a worthy upgrade at its full price, unless you are in a contract and get subsidized of course. The reasons are:
-Lots of people with the T-Mobile version it has screen problems and imperfect screen, including me.
-It's still 800x480 res, the usage experience will be the same.
-T-Mobile version uses Qualcomm S3 cpu, which is no longer considered high end. I could not play HD MKV videos with it smoothly.
If you look around the Note forum there are lots of praise for this phone. The only thing that could hold ones back is the size of the phone and maybe cost.
