Fastest way to charge? - Samsung Infuse 4G

I know Samsung limits the charging on the infuse but is there a certain charger that is faster than the default?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA Premium App

I heard if you plug it in and hold it in your left hand, stand on your right leg, and sing the Macarena, it charges much faster

TRUE! move your hips harder to gain faster charge.

Sweet!! Cant wait to try!!

Pfffft. Everybody knows you're supposed to use vodka.

U need to buy a rapid AC USB adapter
I have a rapid car charger and it works faster than my stock AC one. In your local radioshack they have a rapid charger made by enercell that will do the trick, but its designed for the iPhone and includes the apple sync cable.

Vodka... obviously you haven't tried tequila...

Lets get fancy and go with some courvoisier...

I put mine near my laptop fan output area. The heat helps charge it fast.

Don't forget the pepper and chilli powder, more spice, more bang for your buck

What you want to do is plug it in (using your iphone charger) while holding it in your left hand, then stand on your right leg, then sing the Macarena, while moving your hips around. Then, unplug it, and leave it in a cup of water on your night table (vodka, tequila, 30 year old malt liquor, or courvoisier will work as well). After an hour or so, place it near your laptop fan output area (the heat helps to charge it faster at this point). After about 15 minutes, put it on a pan on your stove at medium high for about 20 to 30 minutes. You can salt lightly (for added charge, add some pepper and chilli powder). At this point, microwave on high for about 2 minutes. Your phone should be fully charged (and then some) by this point!
I actually heard this from my friend's mom's cousin's neice's friend's uncle's cat, who visits this thread quite often!

My phone smells like it's burnt as well. Even when I take the battery out, the phone smells like burnt where the gold connectors are. As well as the battery itself smelling. I can smell it through the USB connector on the bottom with the battery cover on.
I purchased a new battery and it still does the same thing... I don't know if it's the phone or the batteries.
The phone works fine and I get great battery life. It's not even hot. So idk if I should be concerned or not.
RELAX man ! your electrical outlet gives the not stable amplitude of voltage....thats why charger is getting hot sometimes., and smells.

After having the phone unplugged for hours, the area around the gold contacts of the phone/battery connectors smells like scorched metal/plastic.

Yeah I'm using Faux's LGE Stock Froyo kernel v0.0.4 with ext4 undervolted.
Stock LG Froyo rom
The smell never goes away as long as the phone is on. It has been doing it since I got the phone about 3 weeks ago before I installed the custom kernel.
Like I said, everything works fine, and the phone and battery aren't even hot. I even bought a new battery and it still does it.

Can ROM be edited to make the INFUSE charge faster??

I'm heavy user because I always do nothing at work because I can do my thing in 2hrs and just pretend I'm doing something for the remaining 6hrs of my work, hate it when you have to charge for 4hrs, why the heck Samsung did this long charging, iPhone 4 charge like 1hr from 15% this really annoys me, even when driving using navigation while charging, battery still draining what the **** Samsung.

Physisc lol seems like you cut. Physics class, haven't you heard about rapid chargers?
I just called Samsung they told me even if I buy fast charger it won't work because the software design to regulate the amount of current when charging is set to a certain amp to not damage the battery,
So it is not physics it is just common sense because they told me that it is software. And the software has nothing to do with your 1750mah and your physics knowledge dreams of yours. And stop reminding me of physics I hate that class is too boring for me so I just sleep on my physics class.

LMAO at this thread.
Butt seriously, this guy has a perfectly valid point. The Infuse charges MUCH more slowly than any previous android phone I've had. It's not even close, and it can't all be explained by a bigger battery. The battery in my Droid X was very close to the number of mAH of the Infuse, yet it would charge 3 to 4 times faster.
Does anyone know the maximum amount of current the Infuse is set up to use when charging? That way at least we'd know if it's pointless to get a new charger beyond a certain number of amps.
If you use a OC kernel, you can set it at 100mzh max speed while charging. Not sure if this will charge faster.

According to comments in the kernel code, 600 mA. Unfortunately without the MAX8998 datasheet, I only have comments to go by. Unlike most of Maxim's products, the 8998's datasheet does not appear to be public. That's battery input current, then there's the current needed to just keep the phone running which is ???
It's possible to increase the current, I'm running a test kernel that does it. However before unleashing it on the public I need to do some testing, such as:
1) Figure out whether it gracefully handles input "voltage droop" from weaker chargers such as the AT&T car charger and many other car chargers out there. All of my new 1A chargers are actually not 1A chargers, good thing they were just over a buck apiece. (The MC34063A used in them can't reliably output 1A at 5v when off of a 12v supply.)
2) If it doesn't, if there is a way to make it do so.
3) What sort of battery overtemperature protections there are, if any. If there aren't, the current needs to stay where it is.
Hopefully this can be tweaked in the kernel... My 2100 mAh car charger could charge my Captivate 20% in a 15 minute car ride. The Infuse? Not so much...

I'll take a look at that at some point. Unfortunately he includes source in a tar file, not on github, so I can't just browse to it from wherever.
As I mentioned above, it IS possible to increase the charge current in our devices by setting the MAX8998 PMIC's current limit differently, and I do have a kernel with the change integrated running on my device, but before publishing a kernel for public use I want to spend some time investigating possible negative side effects.
I personally couldn't care less. I easily make it to an overnight charge and then it can take as long as it wants (I'm on my third day of uncharged use right now). I'd rather the battery charge slowly and preserve it peak charging capacity (or as close to it as possible).

I think that *most likely*, other than the fact that weak-ass USB chargers abound and that could cause issues with higher charge current settings, it is safe to bump up our charge current 20%, since our battery capacity is 20% higher.
i.e. charge current up by 20% (which is what my current kernel tweak does) compared to other phones keeps our charge rate in terms of C the same as other phones.
I won't be porting any of the other charge tweaks from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=996631 to our kernels myself - in fact if anything to keep the battery from getting abused, I might pair the increased charge current with a more conservative topoff/charge termination threshold.
One thing that's interesting is our kernel seems to claim some sort of "step charging" code, however it seems to always go to max charge rate even when the battery is in the 90s. I still need to make sense of the stepcharging routine - it looks like it would just cycle between 4 different current settings constantly, but in reality it goes right to the max in all situations except for when the battery is in constant-voltage charging (near charge termination).

Yeah that's great for you, but for those of us whose phones die in 12-15 hours, not so much. In addition, the fact that the battery discharges while being charged in the car and running nav is kind of ridiculous.

well, it all depends on what your after. are you looking to charge your phone by using this thing in the sun? in which case forget it. while the capacity is there, the PV panel that is on there wont charge the battery it's attached to for about 4 days in bright sunshine, it's simply not big enough.
if you're looking for just a portable battery to plug your phone into, then ok, it should do something like 3 full charges of an empty phone battery, before you have to plug it into usb to charge it up again
if you're looking to charge your phone only by using the sun (like going camping or something) have a look at this instead

Got a similar pack as relation gift. It is stated to be fully recharged on sunlight in 6-hours with full (summer) sunlight. In reality, it will probably be closer to 2 days to get a proper refill. Anyway, with some 3000-4000maH on board is is a nice emergency battery solution to have in your bag. Mine can be charged by normal electricity as well.

An important thing to note is that if your phone has a 2100mAh battery and you have a 2100mAh portable charger, you will not get a full charge out of it, as some is lost in transition. You will usually only get between 2/3 to 3/4 of the capacity of the portable charger transferred to your phone.
I have this for my Atrix 4G and will use it for my Nexus 4 when my back order ships. The Atrix 4G has an 1880mAh battery, and I get about two charges out of it. It is about twice as thick as the Atrix, but about half as wide and about an inch shorter. It also functions as a laser pointer and flashlight. It is rugged enough that I bring it camping with me and don't treat it with much care and it still works fine. Very solidly built.
I bought something like this from a seller on ebay, it came from china. It broke right away, but it seems people are having better luck then I did.
I really like the first one in the OP. I like that it can easily be plugged into the phone while using it. I just wish the capacity was a little bigger.

I just ordered this for $23. It looks really thin and has a retractable micro usb plug, which is huge for me. This may be good for the person who just posted before me too:

I will say that my phone does get a bit warmer than I am comfortable with while it charges. I even take it off sometimes because I feel it gets too warm once its fully charged.
I wont leave it plugged in overnight unless my room has the AC going, I can finish off the charge in the morning before work.

Get something that can monitor battery temperature like Gsam monitor, you will see that the battery don't get over 40C when you charge it in a 25C room. Plus once the charging is done the the temp goes back to near room temp even if the phone is still connected to the charger., Li-ion battery don't get damaged unless you push them beyond 50C so nothing to worry about leaving it plugged in overnight.
I blame it on the MF3 update. Just turned the phone into a big boom!

Funny thing... last night my phone made a strange tone that I had not peviously heard. When I looked at the screen the phone had a warning that battery temperature was too high pausing charge. Battery was on 60% when it happened. I reached to unplug it and the phone was extremely hot.

These batts are prone to catching fire! You know the recent problem with batteries in aircraft catching fire, etc? Same type just a whole lot bigger. Were at a point were we need new technology but its just not there yet. I see in the future smartphones having tiny fans in them like laptops lol.

Ya but the Boeing issue had to do with something causing the batteries to overheat and not the battteries themselves
