[Q] What kernel and WebOS ver. Are you using?. - WebOS Software and Hacking General

This thread is for see What Kernel and WebOS version are you using, how buggy is it.
I use WebOS ver. 2.1.0. And I'm using SR71 Blackbird Kernel. I have to make resets every 2/3 days, and sometimes when i'm playing music it gets freeze!.
Patches: 25
App Installed: 34
Linux App: 13
Web Server running over 3G.
Windows 95/98 on Sleep mode.
Booting time: 2.4 mins complete.
Temp.: 22º-45º (Normally 31º)
Now let's see your WebOS Device

I've got webOS 1.4.5. I don't know what kernel, default one for my Pre- I guess. I reset only to swap to my spare battery, not because of freezes. I think that's usually once a week, although it has been every day at times of heavy usage.

Preware 1.7.0

I dont need to reset, but i do once a week just habit.
Would like to try 2.0, but seems like a big hassle for very little improvement.
Love WebOS! still waiting patiently for the Pre3

Nice =). My mom's Pre plus, she do a reset like monthly. And you should try WebOS 2.x.x, but well is your selection , Have a nice day.

Thanks
I would like to try 2.x.x but, according to internals, my pre + would still be registered as a 1.4.5 so i couldnt download apps for 2.x.x unless they were homebrew. I just read an article today about HP locking out palm devices upgraded to 2.x.x from accessing the cloud, back up, restore and other functions. I think i will wait for the pre3.
I will be getting a TP in the next month. very excited.

•Upgraded OS to Windows Mobile 6.5
•Added HTC Sense UI enhancements

I am downloading it now and will post what I find...
Looks like Sense 2.5
The image in the download shows Windows mobile 21889.5.0.87
AND
Manila 2.5.20121324.1
Sense 2.5, No 6.5.3, no Footprints
Just loaded the ROM, a little glitchy (veeerrry slow) on the bootup (i.e. calibration screen)
Confirmed:
Sense 2.5, no WM6.5.3 , no Footprints tab.
I'll post more if I see anything else
Sprint Touch Pro 2 Update is AMAZING!!!!
I just flashed the new ROM on my Sprint Touch Pro 2. It takes a little bit time to boot up but it's amazing!!!
Confirm:
-Sense 2.5
-WM 6.5 (not 6.5.3)
-No Footprints tab
-No enhanced landscape mode for Music and Photos (it does have full landscape support of course, just not the nice 'jukebox' look I have seen on some ROMs
No HTC Task Manager??? No longer in the upper right corner is the little triangle that brings the list of currently running apps.
Just loaded the new ROM and so far everything is very smooth.
Lots of extra's come preinstalled, the chef's will fix that
storage: 53.41mb in use
memory: 121.65mb in use
OS 5.2.21889 (21889.5.0.87)

Anyone know of anyone hosting this rom/image yet. I'm only getting 18kb/sec from HTC's website and i'm too impatient to wait 2 and a half hours.
yea +1 for a mirror please. Im dying over here I was at 98 percent and got an error. now a 5 hour wait.
Fast Mirror for the Image.
http://leetfx.com/HTC Touch PRO2 MR1.exe
I just downloaded it from there and flashed my device. I am still in the Orange Screen ( now about 10 minutes.)
credit the fast link to Nanoware:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=114747&page=9
OK! I reset the device by removing the battery after a 25 minute wait on the Orange screen and now the device is functioning well...
Thank you ronin for Fast Mirror
Direct from HTC website is currently approximating ETA of 8 hours 41 minutes. Sheesh!
Thanks to ronin and Nanoware the mirror says 45 minutes remaining!
Much appreciated!!!
Chuck
if anyone wants the "traditional" task manager aka HTC Taskmanager, Here is the cab....It works perfectly, i uninstalled it because i didn't like to see that after a while my memory is constantly at 80% with nothing opened. the phone is still responsive but i guess psychologically it makes me want to reboot! or clean ram.
So out of sight out of mind, which is probably why HTC left it out.
Of course they forgot to keep the 2016 fix in the new ROM as far as fixing the old messages that came in as 2016. So once you sync with MyPhone all the old 2016 timestamped SMS messages return. And of course they locked their 2016 SMS hotfix to only install on the old ROM.
Luckily as far as new SMS messages go, it works fine. So, not a big deal considering they are 2½ month old messages. It's just an annoyance considering they took 6 months to give us the update.

What is the Radio version?
Was it kept the same? Or updated?
Thanks.
Thanks for the mirror link. I started this at 10 AM and was only half way done at 2:30 PM
Huh, guess I got lucky - saw it last night on Pocketnow and hit up the HTC link.
Had the file in 18 seconds.
I like the eye-candy - going to drop my TP2 as soon as my corporate IT picks up the HD2, which unfortunately takes a few weeks.
But this will tide me over nicely till then.
Mirror Savior!
I was bout ready to cry when I found this mirror Finally! Two attempts and failure at 80% when the server reset on me...terrible.
This really is great news. I'm hoping now someone can get me the working Sprint Picturemail app...
Just some FYI for those having problems flashing. These are my experiences.
1. Make sure you don't have a ROM image file on the root of your SD card. Flash installer will give disconnected error and phone will continue to flash, but with the ROM image file from your SD card.
2. Also, look out for it windows installing the HTC USB drivers. You will get the disconnected error again and phone will stick on the rainbow page with SPL info. Just wait for drivers to install, soft reset your phone and try again.
Upgrades
OS Version: 5.2.21889 (21889.5.0.87)

Dual booting Witstech tablet supports Android 2.1 and Windows CE

The Witstech tablet allows you to run both Android 2.1 and Windows CE. The A81-E is based on last years A81 sporting a 600MHz ARM Cortex-A8 and a seven-inch 800×480 touchscreen.

just ran into this and i think i'm hooked.
Something like this is the missing link in my arsenal.
Has anyone purchased tested? What do you think?
Hi there, this looks interesting anyone using this device? would like to hear
a hand on report
btw where can we buy this device and price??
ive been researching this tablet for a few hours now and from what i can tell theres no market app...which wouldnt be so bad because you could download all the apks to your sd card, but theres also no file explorer which means that plan is moot. everything though, is a dream!
I purchased one of these little beauties with 2.1 on it. When running 2.1, the bluetooth, audio and gps are broke. Audio works but is very quiet, bluetooth and gps simply do not work. I used adb to install apps, most fc'd after install. There is a new ROM out for it that fixed most of the fc's, but did not fix bt or gps. When I contacted support, I was told that if i wanted to use gps I should install wince...
Otherwise, the device is very sexy, very fast and feels to be quite durable. If they can get the 3 issues listed above worked out, this thing will be awesome.
Well? Where is the update. Have you made any progress with the wisitech? Access to marketplace at this point?
Thanks for keeping us updated!

ViewSonic is releasing a 10.1-inch tablet that will dual boot Windows 7 and Android 1.6.
http://technolog.msnbc.msn.com/_new...nics-10-inch-tablet-boots-windows-and-android
My question is, why ONLY Android 1.6??? Android 2.x has been out for months and they can't have it integrated into this device? Bad decision in my opinion. Although the article does say ViewSonic has another tablet that has Android 2.2, it isn't one that dual boots. Just thought I'd share.
Witstec A81G
I just ordered the A81G (supposedly everything is working), with 2.2.
I ordered it because (in theory) it dual boots into WinCe and 2.2, GPS working in both operating systems, removable battery (most do not and most do not have very long battery life, makes the product virtually useless, as a mobile device) once the battery is dead) and a matte screen.
If all the above is true then it is one heck of a deal at $205, shipped (ordered it from Hotmid). It is it not then it will make a great paper weight.
The videos of the product on YouTube seemed very promising.
Once I get it (I was too cheap to pay for quicker shipping), around Jan 151011, I will post my review and indicate whether I accomplished the dual boot.
I even saw a video on line showing it with Multi-touch. Hmmm.
Problem with Market solved
This is the solution.
Android market setting
1) Press Home button
2) Click settings
3) Chose Applications / Manage applications
4) click Running TAB
5) Find Market program in the list and click
6) Click :
a. Clear cache
b. Force stop
7) Press back button On 81
8) Find Google Services Framework and click (Running TAB)
9) Click
a. Clear data (DELTE warning will appear. Click OK)
b. Force stop
10) Go back to Home page of A81
11) Try to Run Market
12) You should see new window with following message: An error occurred. Please try
again. (this is good message telling that all steps was done successfully)
13) Turn OFF device
14) Turn ON device
15) Make sure you have Internet connection (WiFi or other) and SD card is inserted
16) Run Market
Now its working fine.

What's the best Android ROM for Polaris?

I am sorry if a thread like this exists but I didn't managed to find it.
I tried different Roms but I can't remember from all which is the fastest.
I am mainly using my Polaris for:
- phone calls
- wifi browsing: Opera Mini/Skyfire
I want the fastest Android Rom that will suit my needs. From your experience what ROM would you recommend me ?
Thanks.
Try to use froyo 2.2 RLS 12, right now i use it on my phone, it is fast naught to do all the usual things without wait. I overclocked my CPU to work at 540MHz (this says Rogue Tools) but it is working at 520MHz really. The market it is working fine, bluetooth also, wifi can be solved to obtain ip, everything is ok. If you wanna more details, PM and i will try to guide you in romanian

how can I flash froyo 2.2 RLS 12 to my Polaris?wifi is ok?
1. READ POST1 HERE - FOR THE INSTALL PROCESS INSTRUCTIONS and download the install-seq.sh .
2. READ POST1 HERE - DOWNLOAD THE Latest FroYo NBH or ZImage (POLAIMG.NBH) for your panel type, and the RLS12 All Languages Themed (androidinstall.tar).
3. READ POST1 HERE - FOR THE NBH Editor v3.5.2 YOU CAN DOWNLOAD AND USE THIS PROGRAM TO CHANGE THE PANEL TYPE FROM 1 TO 3 OR FROM 3 TO 1.
After you read all the 3 posts from the 3 thread and you download all the files you need you can proceed with the install using the steps described in the point 1.
For solve the WiFi obtain IP adress, after you install successfully the Android on your Polaris, restart it and press the volume button up when booting Android, you will see a menu with some options, select FIX PERMISSIONS menu and wait... after the fix WiFi will work just fine and it will obtain the IP from the network.
Hope this post will help you.
Indeed, I am using since yesterday RLS12. It is pretty ok, some freezes here and there but nothing really important. Sometimes in Market the phone restarts. I thought about overclocking the CPU but I was affraid not to broke it. Is it safe? Is there a performance improvement ? What about battery drain ?
In my case i don't have any problems with freezes or restarting in the Market, but when you change the camera settings application from photo to video then the program stops. About overclocking the CPU, i use it in this way (540MHz) from some time, all is ok, the phone is fast and the battery is not drain, in my case work from 3 days ago and i have use it my phone to calls, WiFi (browsing), Bluetooth (send/receive files).
this last several days i've spent time to try a lot of android build for my device polaris100. here is my opinion about the best adroid build i've tried :
1.Incubus26jc's Super Froyo (RLS13)
the best build for show off to your friend in reality my device's 128 mb ram can't run it as smooth as it should be. too many frezes it work but with limitation. you need to tweak it a bit to make it bearable : 1 launcher page, keep launcer on memory, kill all windows animation. try to move the installed program to your sd might increase the cache files. uninstall those you never use. minimal widget. you might want to overclock your procc at the risk of your beloved polaris.
2. Kallt_kaffe VaniljEclair RLS11 (CM5.0.8)
It has the bling bling as the froyo build but it works generally alot of better than the froyo one. it work fast out of the box. and if you do the tweak i mentioned above it work alot of more faster. but not as fast as it should be if compared to those official device that came out with eclair.
3. [ANDROID] Myn’s Warm Donut - [RLS 5 - 04/24/2010]
this is the oldest adroid of the two above. but it has the least hardware requirement, in other word it really work as it should be (compared to the device that officially came with it). it just some glitches here and there but it is bear able. I'm having alot of fun with this build.
there is alot of other build that i tried but IMHO those 3 above are the one worth to mention.
hope this help.

can u tell me, what works and what didnt work, in these androids???
Most stable for Polaris
Hi,
I always testing any incoming releases.
I vote for Incubus Froyo (RLS13 yet). If you don't use lot of screens, widgets, than it is the most stable for daily use. These things are the most important for me and they are work:
- Incoming calls come fast
- Data plan works: Task, Calendar, Contact
- BT carkit works
- Battery: I use sometimes pcarvalho lastest winmo and it drains battery more, than Android.
I think the most freezes are about the low free memory. But I'm on it to get more memory. If I use app and data on SD, I got max 40MB of free memory.
Hey, I got the same impressions of the Incubus RLS13, very stable BUT suffers from a memory problem... well, can't expect too much from the Polaris RAM when compared to the new devices in the market.
However, can u guys tell me if the Launchers (PRO and ADW) should make the phone slower (choppy)? I decided to stay with the stock launcher, apparently works better (apps, screens in/out), but I checked that PRO and ADW don't use a lot of memory.
For example, Tjahjo07, when u say keep the launcher in memory and 1 screen only, which launcher are u referring to?
Cheers!
@grgomes
he means launcher pro.
Tks Phyt. Yeah, I did try the speed-up suggestions, my Pola100 is much faster now.
2 screens LP, keep in memory, people widget and weather only. Minimal freeze and FC so far.
I did however go back to Liquid's 16/07 nbh, the 26/07 from DZO was giving me a lot of charging and booting issues. Seems much more stable now.
Im waiting for a Pola version for the 24/08 nbh from DZO, read some good reviews from people using Vogue...
I flashed Incubus26jc's Super Froyo (RLS14), Kallt_kaffe VaniljEclair RLS11 (CM5.0.8), Myn’s Warm Donut - [RLS 5], but there is no-one can run in my Polaris smooth.
My suggestion is don't install Android in your Polaris for business. Otherwise, maybe you will loss order or job.
Good Luck Everybody!
VaniljEclair
Use the VaniljEclair an reduce the pages of ADW.Launcher to 1! It works really fast!!! Ive got Pola200. If i flash Incubus Froyo WLAN dows not work. Running the other ROM everything works fine!!! I had 1.6 myns warm donut before. It had benn run from SD Card. By flashing Eclair I got a 2.1 which works as fast as Donut from SD card. Try it! Its great!!!

i installed android NAND on my pola200 and worked. but after some days it goes crazy and according to this forum thresd i could remove old version and now i want to install another stable version, so i read wiki page but all links not worked! or say file not found. so i'm going back to read threads again to find what version is good. but another problem! ; many of this guides uses haret.exe to install android but i cant do this, because i don't have WM on my pola200 to run it. so can you help me for that? how to install new android ?

A nice experience with froyo

Afters 2 monthes on windows 6.1 and 6.5 , i finallly came back to the excellent android, windows is so boring
I had give up because of bad development cycle with .32 kernel and a lack of news on polaris android forum and the abandon of martin
So I downloaded atools, compiled the last .32 kernel and installed
HTML:
Thoughtlesskyle's Not So Super Froyo [RLS18] [12/4/2010] Who Invited This Guy!
both on nand and of course the last but not least update.tgz for polaris
The first impression was very very good : everything was well sized, smart and faster than fast, wifi and bluetooth did work
After my first installation, i went to the market and i did a mass update of stock application : that was my first mistake (maybe because of odexed stuff... i 've never understood this that's a shame) - everything went corrupted after this point until a big crash of the phone
So i did a second attempt and after two days with this configuration, i've a very good feeling, good stability and not so bad battery life after having installed "Data on demand" from the market
The most important point has ever be the battery life for me (not this fuc$''(ng camera - kids !!) and i've noticed that sleeping state is very odd for month, sometime the phone is entering sleeping state, sometime not and this must be battery hungry
my radio is 1.45.xx.xx
Some credits : i want to thank all the historical from HTC and the upcoming Liquid who do so much hard work replacing marginz if i've all understood
I wish i had the skill to help the community but i know my limit, everything that i can advise you is to work on battery life
Liquid : what is the problem with battery life exactly ? is there a way to work on sleeping state ? on windows my phone could handle 4 or 5 days without recharging... i know this have been asked so many times
I agree with you...
Hi,
Yes, I totally agree with you. I tried the first versions of cyanogene and after versions of thoughtlesskyle (fat froyo).
I admit that this is the most stable version ever tested.
Many thanks also to all those who have advanced Android for us.
I use my phone for business reasons but I always want to test the latest versions but there, I stop for the version of thoughtlesskyle as it works perfectly.
Thanks to all Polaris users
Cheers.
My phone is also running on Thoughtlesskyle's Not So Super Froyo [RLS18], and so far it is the best release I've ever tried.
Big thanks to l1q1d, who helped me with to switch from WM6.5 to Android. Tools and threads are always updated and support is both fast and relevant.
Thank you guys.
The problem with battery is due to several fatctors:
Radio firmware is not designed for android so it doesn't handle connection correctly
The sleep mode is not handle correctly by the firmware so the sleep mode is only a low consumpition mode
The battery calculation alghoritm is not perfect and there is no information on windows alghoritmation
good explanation liquid
Do you think there's a chance for you or another to ameliorate the situation ?
... and gingerbread is coming

what can we excpect from this ???

Did someone try gingerbread on polaris ?
I'm a little bit anxious about performance on our devoted device
I'm now trying Thoughtlesskyle's with data on sd, i have read that it can improve sd card bug and data loss on reboot; The fact is that i'm not convinced by system speed with such an installation
I'm not really sure system is well installed since i've read that you need a special rom to install on fat32/etx2/ext2
we can find everything and it's contrary on xda forum, that's annoyin and androidon htc site need to be improved
First experience yesterday :
- easy to install but I use with Haret
- fast and like the Nexus S... Hum...
- But a lot of problems : wifi ok but impossible to connect by authentication, impossible to access to date/time parameters, ... And when I reboot, impossible to get Android ! Just a lot of messages and that's all I've to reinstall again...)
I think we have to wait for a new kernel with this new build
I return to my Froyo by thoughtlesskyle
Cheers.

- But a lot of problems : wifi ok but impossible to connect by authentication, impossible to access to date/time parameters, ... And when I reboot, impossible to get Android ! Just a lot of messages and that's all I've to reinstall again...)
I think we have to wait for a new kernel with this new build
Cheers.

I going mad with my Touch Cruise. I just crashed it on the wall and I'm quite surprise it is still working...
I am experiencing lots of issues. It's so slow that the phone freezes from time to time. Even after rebooting, applications are crashing... because Android says that the SD card is missing (I moved most of the apps using app2sd).
I feel desperate because Android seemed to be a great OS, but not on a Touch Cruise.
I will try to chillout, and wait for new kernel releases and setups...

you don't have to wait but just follow this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10137836&postcount=115
this setup is amazing and very stable, none can't beat it for the moment
The app2sd technique is maybe at the origine of your problems, try with update3 and tell us if it's work
Thanks, I'll give it a go.
My telephone is also running on Thoughtlesskyle's Not So Super Froyo [RLS18]
I'll let you know if it works better (hope so!).
Hi everybody, I want to share what I 'm experiencing since last week. I made a BSE ( EDIT: using 1.0.6 atool ) flagging advanced mode then install system, fix permissions and clear dalvik cache and location system auto as well as data. In nbh editor I setted last L1q1d .32 fstab on auto. I have installed not so super rls 18...
Now in andboot I have a system.img and a data.img and here is my result : I have never had a reboot, no data loss and also I can turn off the phone without problem on reboot. I only must wait about 2/3 minutes before all is ready.
maybe L1q1d can explain what I have done?
I have a mirco sd class 6
P&L
It's quite interesting.
The answer is: you install both system and data on file on sd, the sd is quite fast so you can use it.
Does the camera work in this configuration?

camera will work with 2.6.25 stable kernel

[ROM][HTC G1/Dream 32B/32A] Android 2.2.2 AOSP R6 (wifi Fixed!) [8/3/11]

DEAD
I will try it today and let you know
thank you for the ROM
Sorry for slow download guys! When I finish my build, I upload to ge.tt which allows end users to instantly download while I upload. R3 is also broken -_- ; will upload fixed again
Please stick with r2 atm until r4 is done uploading.
Why the mandatory 96MB Swap and 512MB Ext4?
Wow...this rom is so horribly slow. Amazing how Roms can still get worse.
Slow UI, no improvements over 2.2.1, Market doesn't download anything. No Superuser installed. No busybox installed either. Commands such as a simple "cp" doesn't work.
Horrible.
Honestly with EzTerry's odex'd Asop and Richies F4T 182 de-odex asop build you are a long long long way off lads, nice effort but there is a lot better available already. And as for it being Danger SPL or custom mtd patch needed for what 90% of people are using 2708 with 14mb extra ram then this is a massive home goal.
Sorry just speaking the truth.
No, thats allright, I haven't applied much stuff to it yet.. I just uploaded it the day I compiled.
i'm impressed, just needs a little work. Also, those figures you have for free ram is with or without swap??
do you include a 2708 kernel? is that the default one? that could be a little clearer.
Sorry for the bugs, it is my first native phone rom.. Those figures are for free ram (physical) with the stock system without google apps with 2708 kernel. I did not include 2708 kernel yet but I will very soon! With the google apps and without the 2708 spl/radio, i got around 30 mb of free ram.
The mandatory ext4 partition and swap is for the R5 (uploading now) with a2sd but su still does not want to work. The "su" file was not included in the aosp compile for some reason and it messes everything up..
I like the fact you have changed the OP now about it being fast or faster
Look forward to see where you go with this fella, maybe a look at EzTerry's Froyo Parts.apk if it can help you out. I ported it with Terry's permission to F4T 182 and may be a useful additional update for your rom in the future to add additional functionality.

Yeah sorry I overestimated
35 MB of free physical ram with market, pinyin IME, and google messaging running DangerSPL and stock radio, no 2708.
Well, I'm curious to see Froyo 2.2.2 on my G1 anyway. I have it on my TP2 and the major difference I noticed is that 2.2.1 doesn't have wifi tethering in its Wireless and Networking settings but 2.2.2 does. (Not really a big deal I suppose, since I already have a tethering app.)
I'm kinda curious about why Lazlo or the others haven't merged 2.2.2 yet.

Simple answer - Go ask them
My guess is nothing more than a reduction in memory footprint??? And Wireless tethering is so easy using the google code website (just for those that don't know) http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/ last time I remember wireless tether included in a rom was back in Donut days.

Nothing wrong with the link, works fine. I suggest taking a closer look at your pc
i was using an adblocking hosts file. who the hell doesn't? especially on xda... LOL i guess some people like ads
Ok, R5_Stable released. It is COMPLETELY STABLE with 97% bugs fixed. The UI is smooth and fast after all dalvik-cache has caught up on first boot. I have already messed with odexing and it works but will be in next release(s) because I still like my themes!
Note:
-DO NOT use QuickBoot application as it shuts down android incorrect (at least on this build), it works, but after you press "reboot" and android loads, up, android immediately crashes, and then reboots again and works fine..
-Now includes Live Wallpapers
-Launcher pro is default launcher
-seperate google apps for legal reasons (yeah again)
-On first boot, please wait until dalvik-cache has caught up (about 2 min) or until the phone has received radio signal for rom to run at full speed
-Pershoots .11 kernel added now
- 30+ MB of free physical ram with danger spl!! 60+ with 2708+ radio/spl/kernel.
-Requires Danger SPL now
- battery life is good but does not last 2 days
- setCPU recommended with ondemand at 122mhz-614mhz s (lower if you want to save battery but still runs fine @ 528mhz)
- usb tethering does not work unfortunately (the one built into rom)

Fella just because you use a host file please don't blame the links or assume no-one else is using them when links work for them. Not my fault you blindly use the host file and have no clue of how to configure it to allow certain things. The fault is the user because a computer works on a simply principle of it can only do what YOU tell it too.
smooth but on the mytouch wen using any other kernel it breaks wifi and the stock kernel doesnt support the new radio
