[Q] Splashtop Remote - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I recently purchased this and was attempting to set it up so I can remotely access my PC, using these tutorials:
http://support-remote.splashtop.com...er-outside-from-home-via-remote-network-or-3g
http://support-remote.splashtop.com...sys-wireless-g-broadband-router-as-an-example
And I'm a bit confused. On the page where I set up my router (Netgear WRN2000), I have the ports set up correctly, but the app will not connect. I googled an open port checker, and it says "connection refused". I could very well be using the wrong IP address, as it says in the second tutorial "If it starts with 192 or 10, you need to find the externel." it says you can use whatsmyip, but using that doesn't produce any results either.. does anyone have any ideas? If I'm being too vague please let me know I can try and explain a little more.

Yes, IP addresses starting from 192 and 10 are local area network (LAN) IPs, they are only valid inside the same network. For example in a home environment your router may have an internal IP like 192. 168.1.1 while all computers connected to that router will have IPs like 192.168.1.2 and up. These IPs uniquely identifies all the devices connected to your home router, therefore you can use it to connect to any computer on your home network with your tablet when you are at home (connected to your home router). However, your router will also get one external IP starting with a number other than 192 , 172 or 10. This uniquely identifies your router inside whole of the internet. So if you want to connect to your computer from a remote location (outside home) you need to connect to that external IP. You can find this external IP by going to a site like http://www.whatsmyip.org from your home computer.
This is all you have to do:
Forward 6783 on your home router to the correct LAN ip of the PC you want to connect to
find out the external IP of your router by going to www.whatsmyip.org from the home PC you want to connect to .
Add a new PC in splashtop (android app) with the external IP.
P.S: Most home internet connections have dynamic external IPs; this means the external IP can change from time to time whenever your router is restarted or if you lose the connection to your ISP for some reason. However you can use a dynamic DNS service to assign a name like joshnichols189.dyndns-at-home.com instead of always trying to find out the correct external IP of your home network. If you are interested in getting a Dynamic DNS name like that go to http://www.dyndns.com

Remote Desktop & "Administrator" User Name?

When I go to set up RDP on my laptop, it asks for "Computer" & "User Name". Well I think I found my Computer's name - when you go to System and click the Remote tab, it displays: 'Full Computer Name' - so I *think* I'm set there (right?) My problem is that for "User Name", when click the Start button, at the top it says "Administrator". So when I fired up RDP on my phone and filled out the information, it came back with:
"Cannot connect. Likely reasons are: 1. Specified computer name or IP does not exist 2. A network error occured while establishing a connection"
I will say that I HAVE checked the Firewall Exception box that allows for Remote Access and I have also allowed users to connect via remote access through my System window on the Remote tab. What I HAVEN'T done, however, is anything in the way of port forwarding for 3389. I'm more than familiar with networking and working with routers, so that's not my issue. My issue is, if I'm supposed to forward a port to my IP address, how can I do that when all I can change is the last number:
http://img9.imageshack.us/my.php?image=portip4.jpg
1 - Is my user name being 'Administrator' a problem?
2 - How do I forward the ports, or work with this end of RDP? I've read about the DNS, but don't know exactly how to go about doing it.
I've been in my router before and changed some settings for the Xbox, so I don't think that has to do with DHCP on my local machine here, but correct me if I'm wrong. My question/problem is that this is set to "Automatic Configuration - DHCP"...
http://img232.imageshack.us/my.php?image=configbz4.jpg
...is this a problem? Do I need to change this at all, as in, get in contact with my ISP and go through this setup? Furthermore, if I DO end up having to change this, will it affect anything else on my network? Some people just said they checked the exceptions and logged in without configuring a DNS, so I'm wondering exactly what all I have left to change?
When you try to connect to your computer or laptop from the internet you'll need your public IP address. (not your computer name)
Go yo http://www.whatismyip.com/ on your computer at home.
Second, on your router you have to forward port 3389 to the local ip address from your computer.
Then from outside your home network you start RDP and connect to your public IP address. Your router then will forward that connection to your computer/laptop.

**EDIT**
Perfect, got it down 100%. Although as a side note.. does anyone know of a way to make the resolution/colors better? It works fine and all, but the picture is just a bit distorted with the colors all off.
I use Remote Administrator and I have found it to be the best! It will also allow you to use your native resloution that is set on the host PC you are connecting to whereas RDP won't and if you are tying to view remote camera's like I do or anything that has a specific resolution required, RDP will fail where Remote Admin will not.
The latest version is v.3.0 and it's only like $30 or even less if I remember correctly. A search of your favorite file dispensing forum may find a test version to try out and if I remember correctly, Radmin lets you use it for 30 days before you have to buy the reg key.
My original version V2.1 was upgradeable to V3.0 for free and works for Vista and allows me to connect to my PC at home which I still have v2.1 on.
It's a great app, real small and FAST!
There's also VNC which is similar to Radmin, but lacks the hidden view only mode... Great for keeping an eye on what the kids are doing on the internet without them knowing you are watching!
Hope this helps...

Guide!! Using your WM6.1 device as access point via your router

Hello This guide is made up from the knowledge i have build up from advice given on XDA and information on other sites.
I have found this very useful in my home and hope you do to.
First off, this guide explains everything you need to do to use your diamond as the access point to the internet at home for all devices. (PC's, PS3, XBOX360, Wii)
It is highly recommended that you have a unlimited data allowance!!!!! Otherwise you could have a hefty bill at the end of the month.
Right what you will need :
A WM6.1 Device (I used a Diamond) with an unlimited data allowance tariff,
A WiFi router (i have used an old router that was installed with Tiscali BB)
WMWifiRouter version 0.80 (please find this your self i will not provide it)
and some basic knowledge of networking on PC's and your devices.
Thats it. Please don't be put off by the networking side of things its really easy to do.
Right first off we need to get your diamond taking to your router.
switch on your router and let it do its thing for 2-4 mins
Connect your diamond to the wifi router by switching on your wifi in settings, communications on touchflow, when prompted, connect to your router and enter your network key.
THIS IS THE SAME PROCESS AS CONNECTING TO A WIFI HOTSPOT.
Its that simple.
Next switch off your wifi in settings, communications.
Install WMWifiRouter version 0.80 (Simple and stable)
once installed open WMWifiRouter and press connect.
This should then setup your phone to be used as a access point and connect to your wireless network all at once.
Once it says connected you can turn off your phones main screen by pressing the off switch at the top and put your phone where there is best signal! HSDPA is needed to get up 7.2mbps (little H in signal area)
Right now you need to setup your laptop or device to talk to the phone via your router!
So here are the settings you need to setup in either TCP/IP (manual connection) or a manual connection on your device (PS3, Wii, XBOX360).
I will use a laptops connection as a example because all you need to do is to copy the settings to another device using a different IP address.
If you use wifi or a hardwired connection, right click the telly with the wifi connection in the bottom right of the screen and click open network connections (XP only dont know for vista), Or if the telly is not displayed in the bottom righthand cornner of the task bar then click start, control panel, network connections.
Click on the connection you wish to use i.e local area connection or wireless network connection (you can setup both connections by repeating these steps on each connection)
this should bring up a general tab of this connection, click properties.
This will bring up another box with the network properties, all you need to do is manually enter your IP settings and DNS settings so double click on "internet protocol [TCP/IP]"
Another box appears.
Click "use the following IP address"
In IP address type "192.168.0.xxx" xxx being the unique 3 digit code of your choice, write this down for your firewall settings on other devices if you run a networked drive etc. Each new device will need its own unique 3 digit code ie PC = 192.168.0.100, XBOX360 = 192.168.0.200, Wii = 192.168.0.123 etc.
In Subnet mask type "255.255.255.0"
In Default gate way type "192.168.0.1
Now click "Use the following DNS server address"
In preferred DNS server type "192.168.0.1"
Thats it, press ok and ok on any other boxes still left open.
Your network device will rest your IP and DNS settings to the ones you have just entered, thus allowing you computer to access the mobiles phones internet connection via your router
On all your devices Manually setup all your connections using these settings and they will all use your mobile phone to connect to the internet.
Using DHCP to configure your network is not advised as its unreliable at finding your phones connection.
Now if you want to start using your phone as a phone again, open up WMWifiRouter again if its not already and click options Quit.
To get internet access on other devices via your phone again all you need to do is to start WMWifiRouter and press connect. Start using the internet!!!
If you wish to use your laptop on another hotspot, you will need to reset the TCP/IP settings back to automatic, otherwise it will not work.
Using this process sometimes causes the phone to disable its own internet connection, so a soft reset after exiting WMWifiRouter is recommended.
Have fun, im sorry if its all a little messy but i have never been very good at writing these guides.
If any modd wants to add or edit this post then please feel free. any persons wanting to add to this guide please do so.
Yes i know you can connect your phone to your laptop by USB, Bluetooth, but this method allows multiple devices to use the same phone to access the internet at the same time and via a access point at the highest possible speed, so games consoles can use it!!! Brilliant if you get a good HSDPA signal and live in the country.
Oh one last thing! if you are a youngster and wish to try this, please do so on other equipment, don't use your family's main router and laptop or PC unless its no longer in use!!!
Thank You

Another wifi problem.

Hi everyboy, I have an Blue Angel with WM6.5.3 from sun_dream. I can't connect to my home wifi or any wifi. I configured my router like this:
DHCP off
Wirless all
WPA-PSK
TKIP
64bit
I can't connect even to open wifi accespoints(hotspots).
I start the wirelss manager, tap on wirelss on and after that the wireless network appears. I click connect and nothing happens. In the network manager the connectios is available, i click connect, it says connecting and than again it says available.(any hot sopt or the home network, for that at home i entered the mac into the router and have written the ip an dns to the phone wirelss card)
Pleas help, it is a great phone i like it but this is the only problem i have.
PS: I even commanded an bluetooth gps unit. Is there any way to change the hardware and install an "g" wireless card?
Shouldn't DHCP on your WiFi router be set to 'On' and also for the phone as well. It will select an IP address for your device, which will then pick it up.
Otherwise you will have to allocate an IP address on the router, and then set the phone to the same address. If they don't match it won't work
It's a lot easier to let DHCP do all the donkey work. In most public areas DHCP is used as it is a 'Start it and forget it' system.
I set dhcp off because i assign an ip adress to every pc manualy and even have an mac filter where again the ip is written. I set the same ip on the phone as i had written it in the router config.
I can't acces even public wireless spots. I have the problem that it says the connection is available and then it says connecting and instead of connected it says avaialble.

RDP Setup

I am not sure if its the right forum to ask this question, but knowing the smart ppl we have here i hope i am wrong!
I just downloaded Remote RDP Enterprise 3.2 and i am trying to setup so i can connect to my home pc. I am using a router model WGT624 netgear router. I tried the port forwarding (had to setup custom PF, because it wouldnt let me add 3389 as a port on the services which offers through the router) as it was suggested but i think i might be doing something wrong because it just wont connect at all.
my PF on my router looks something like this:
# Service Name Start Port End Port Server IP Address
1 RDP 3389 3389 192.168.X.X
And when i goto whatismyip.com i have a different IP address: 67.234.x.x
on the app on my phone which IP address do i connect through?
Anyone use the same app and has a netgear router and knows how to set it up? or any documentation on how to get this thing working and can share it would be extremely helpful, its for my work!
Thanx so much in advance
Hi iknight8. I don't have that app but I'll try and help.
You need to connect to the external IP address (67.234.x.x) when you are on the internet and the internal IP (192.168.X.X) when you are on your internal network.
A good troubleshooting step would be to try connecting to you PC on the internal address when you are connected to your wifi. This should work with any of the port forwarding you have setup so if it doesn't then then you know it is a proble with the setting on the pc itself. Remote desktop has to be enabled in the computer settings and allowed on any firewalls you are using.
i tried connecting both but i get a Socket is not connected message!
if u can use it and let me know of the setting to make it work would be nice
Thanx again
p.s. wen i am on internal wifi network, same as pc and i put that PF ip addess, i get a mesage "no route to host"...
Do you have allowed RDP connection on PC?
I downloaded the app and the first time I tried it on my wifi I got the same error as you, no route to host. The problem was that I didn't enable remote desktop on my PC. Once I set it to allow connections from computers running any version of remote desktop it worked straight away.
This is what I did.
1. In the app, press the menu button and add.
2. I put in the IP address of my pc and port 3389.
3. On my PC I disabled the windows firewall.
4. Also on my PC (I'm using windows 7), I enabled remote desktop by going to start, right click computer, click properties, click remote settings and check the allow connections from computers running any version of resmote desktop radio button.
5. finally I connected my phone to my wifi and tapped on the connection I created in the app. It gave me my logon screen.
If you can get this working hopefully your port forwarding settings are corect and that will work too. Hope this helps.

A weird restriction to access internet from wifi

Ask Question
I had a small quarrel with my stepfather, and then he didn’t let me access the home internet. When I try to connect to our home wifi normally, it says "obtaining ip address" and loops for minutes until it says "failed to obtain ip address." But when I try to connect by setting static ip from my phone, it connects immediately but says " no internet." I assumed he might have blacklisted me, but I am unable to connect even my laptop and other phones. Suspecting that my stepfather had enabled whitelist or MAC filtering, I tried to spoof MAC address using kali linux, but I couldn't connect to the wifi with spoofed MAC. I need internet but my stepfather won't listen to me. Since he is not in home right now and won't return for a month, I don't have a connected device to access the setup page and see the settings of our Digicom ( DG-M342T) router. I am also unable to physically access the router but I have the password( Authentication type - WEP). How do I fix this? I would really appreciate your help.
You could download the router's management app and then view the connected devices list on your phone. Check your router's setup guide to see which app you need to download.

I can't access the setup page by typing 192.168.10.1 in the url or from other Router management apps on the play store. It says " Can't reach the page." I also checked the guide where it says to open admin page by typing 192.168.10.1 on the browser , but there is no mention of any management apps.
Making changes to your router you’d need to know the IP address of the router. A list of wellknown router IPs here:

Thanks for your reply jwoegerbauer. As I mentioned earlier in my post, if I connect to wifi just by typing password, it loops "obtaining ip address" for long period, and therefore I have to set static ip address through the advance setting of wifi just to connect to it. My router's local ip address is 192.168.10.1 . I used to access the admin page before the restriction through this ip address. But now it says "Can't reach the page." The problem is about not being able to access internet and admin page after connecting to the router.
Clear your local DNS cache to make sure you have the recent version from your ISP for 192.168.10.1. For Windows machine, you can do this by going to Start > Command Prompt > Type ipconfig /flushdns and then hit Enter.
Assumed that router's IP really is 192.168.10.1 and it still doesn't work then maybe ISP is blocking it. You may try to use an alternate DNS service such as Cloudflare for example.
I flushed the dns in windows. Now I can connect to the wifi without setting statip ip (in windows), but I still can't access internet. If I try to open any website, it says "
Hmmm… can't reach this page" and then says "You are not connected." I installed cloudflare WARP in windows but it was no use , since it requires internet access to function.
These are the screenshots of my android to explain what exactly happens:
1. When I try to connect to wifi just by typing it's password (loops at "obtaining ip address")
2. Setting the static ip manually
3. Instantly connected after setting static ip
4. Connected but No internet
5. Can't access router setup page
Cloudflare Warp? Confused.
How to change DNS Server to Cloudflare is explained in detail here:

I downloaded an application( Cloudflare WARP) form the cloudflare website linked below. I checked the website you linked and changed the DNS accordingly, but I still can't access internet. Well thanks for your help jwoegerbauer. Below is the screenshot of ipconfig command after flushing dns. It looks like I haven't been assigned an ip address, the subnet is different, and the gateway is blank. Do you have any idea what this means? What could be a valid ip adress to connect manually with static ip?
