[Q] install-recovery.sh

Hi all I just rooted with su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip and flashed CW 3.0.2.4 crespo everything went well. When I booted out of CW recovery and am looking for install-recovery.sh in etc file to rename it, it is not there !! I used this method http://jaxov.com/2011/02/how-to-root-android-2-3-3-gingerbread-on-nexus-s/
Im on GB 2.3.4 on my new NS4G Sprint
With that said I have rebooted twice since into CW and it stuck not going back to original recovery which from everything I read was supposed to happen.
Any suggestions? I am concerened if I have to go back to stock recovery that ill need that file.
When I mounted USB in CW to flash the su zip to my phone , for some odd reason my computer did not recognize the NS as an external storage so i did reboot out of CW , USB mount and placed the su file on my NS and then rebooted back into CW and flashed the su root. Everything seems to be working perfectly

Maybe the NS4G doesn't have that script. I think there is one other version, maybe i9020A, that doesn't have it either.
If you ever need to go back to stock recovery, well I guess someone will have to grab the stock recovery image and make it available!
Yes, some versions don't have that script like my i9020a so CWM is permanent. I got a stock recovery image from here. Might not work for the 4g since it was dumped from an i9020a.

[Q] cannot boot in CWM recovery

Hello,
I have rooted my phone yesterday. Now I want to instal a custom ROM. I flashed the phone with ROM manager. Then I select the option: Boot into clockwork recovery. It reboots into recovery but the wrong one. It reboots into the android standard recovery. When I press on apply update.zip it will say signature failed.
I really have no clue what to do, please help me.
Try re-downloading the update.zip file again to make sure that one isnt corrupted
I have the same issue can't boot into clockworkmod. The samsung stock loader shows up
Select update.zip and it should load cwm
Sent from my mind

Select "install zip from sdcard".
Select "choose zip from sdcard
the whole menu option does exist all my CWM says is

i downloaded voodoo pb&j and left it in default file name "0602_charge_voodoo.zip." and copied it over.

ALso my CWM says "manual mode" is this the problem?
thx.
anyone? i really want to root but i am stuck =\
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122657
that is the exact guide i am following, but i am having the problem i described above. within CWM i am unable to load the kernal.
When yo ugo into recovery mode what color is all the lettering on the screen?
Secondly after flashing CWR did you fully boot the device up before trying to flash a kernel? If so that is your problem. Reason being is if you DO NOT flash a kernel right after flashing CWR before boot the device the recovery image gets overwritten. You MUST install a custom kernel right after flashing CWR before fully booting the device up the first time.

He's right. You have to flash the kernel and rom before you boot. If your recovery is yellow your good to go. If its blue then your flashing the recovery correctly. Redownload the recovery file and try again.
hey thx works now, comes down to the first reboot. they should add that to the guide.
Great glad it got worked out for ya.

[Q] Need some help!!

Im trying to flash the Clockwork Recovery mod to my sidekick but every time I boot in recovery I keep getting the stock recovery screen. First of all I rooted my phone using the latest version of SuperOneclick Root. Once the phone was rooted I installed both root explorer and rom manager.
I downloaded the modified binary recovery file and replaced it in system/bin using Root Explorer. I used Rom manager to flash the CWM and it supposedly intalled it (it says version 4.0.0.2). I tried to reboot on recovery but it doesnt boot the CWM recovery screen. I the tried donwloading the CWM and placing the update.zip file in the root of my SD card. I then rebooted into recovery and selecte reintall packages and i get the following:
E: signature verification failed.. installation aborted?
Im guessing its the binary recovery file that's causing the problem but I've tried replacing the file again and it wont work. Anyway, does anyone have any idea whats going on and how I can successfully install the clockwork recovery mod??
Yes that would say that it isn't using the correct modded recovery binary. use my modded oneclickroot script to push the correct recovery and update, and it should work.

Thank you so much it worked like a charm!! One question, every time I boot in recovery now, it boots in the stock recovery. In order to boot CWM i have to select reinstall packages every time is this normal??
Currently that's normal. I've got the same thing on mine.

Yes that CWM is a fake flash and doesn't actually replace your stock recovery so you would have to reinstall packages everytime, unless you flash bali kernel which has the red CWM that replaces the stock recovery when you boot into recovery mode
Sent from my SGH-T839 using XDA App
EDIT: sniped by ayoteddy.
That is normal, as that script uses the "fake flash" instead of having CWM built into the kernel.
A fake flash technique uses a modded recovery binary that doesn't check for signature verification, allowing us to boot into CWM from a stock looking recovery, even on a stock kernel.
In order to have recovery boot straight to CWM, you need to have it built into the kernel, which currently only exists on the Bali kernel (as there's no need to build it for another kernel).

Boots into recovery after installation, then gives triangle exclimation

I've now flashed the recovery using both rom manager and fastboot 4 times, and each time it works fine the very first time after, but then the 2nd and succeeding times after lead to the little android and then the triangle and exclamation point. This is with the latest clockwork 3.1.0.1 on a Nexus S 4G. I have no idea what the problem could be and I'm hella frustrated.
Thanks for any help you can provide in advance.

Trying this, will update with results after I just try flashing cyanogen.
EDIT: UPDATE problem solved after flashing cyanogen. Sorry for taking up extra space. Here's the fix incase others were searching.
-Flash recovery
-Enter recovery while it's still working, nandroid backup, wipe, flash cyanogen.
-Done
If that doesn't work use the commands from that link.
The problem is solved cause CM fixed it for you.
If you don't have a ROM fixing it for you (eg stock Android), you need to rename the install-recovery.sh inside /system/etc to something else to make a recovery stick through reboots. Renaming system data requires root/super user.
The order would be:
Flash recovery
Flash su.zip
Boot into Android
Use a root explorer (eg Super Manager or Root explorer) to rename the file above
Flash recovery again
