I have the amzer rubber case, it may be a coincidence but it seems as though when I have the case on my back button goes crazy and goes back on its on, even the backlight will turn off in the back button. Drives me crazy, not sure how or if its the case or just my nexus 4g.

I sometimes have the outer buttons "missfire" when I grapple the phone too hard (eg checking if I applied the backcover correctly, cleaning display etc). That'd be home and back buttons.
Yea it will do what your saying but never the home button. Sometimes I can lay the phone down when it starts and you can continually here the vibration feedback as if some was pressing the back button.

1. Is there any app that allows using the volume down button to turn on the screen instead of the power button? The few that I've tried don't work.
2. I don't like how the 4 bottom buttons don't always stay lit up when the screen is on. They go off fairly quickly and I can no longer see the buttons when I'm in a dark room. My old phones buttons stayed lit up as long as the screen was on.
Thanks for any help.
That's some good questions.
The second one drives me crazy. Sometimes.

I'd be interested in both of those things as well. Coming from a MT3G I'm still getting used to the power button on the top. For as large as the phone is, and being left handed, it is pretty awkward to hit the power button then slide to unlock without having to readjust my hold on it or use 2 hands.
Also, it does get pretty annoying when the lights turn off and I want to hit a button. Sometimes I'll try to go back a page in the browser and I'll just hit Home instead.... just something that dims it to a very very low light would work, or kept it at that same low light all the time. Those are pretty damn bright, and I dont see a reason for them being so bright.
My power button stopped being reliable two days ago. It acted as though it was always pressed. I could hear/feel the mechanical clicking but the software acted as though the button was never fully released.
I followed a teardown guide on another thread and took the plastic button insert out of the outer chassis. I cleaned that whole area with alcohol and a qtip. Put it back together and it's been flawless since.
Not sure if it'll help anyone else but it sure makes my phone less frustrating.

Haven't seen this one anywhere here on XDA yet, but I did find one other person through google that has my same issue. So, here is the problem, when you slightly press on the screen just below where the power button is, either the screen turns off or the power menu comes up. This just happens to be exactly where I put my thumb when holding the tablet, so I constantly get the power menu or turn off the screen on accident. This is an extremely frustrating problem, it happens non-stop right now. I've also noticed that the power button itself is messed up too, in that I don't even have to push it. If i just barely touch it with my finger it turns off the screen, it's like the button is stuck. Of course, I have already unlocked so getting a warranty replacement is out of the question. Just wanted to put this problem out there so other people know about it.
PS. anyone know of an app that will disable the power button? If not, I guess I'll open it up can physically disconnect it or something, just make sure it never gets turned off!, lol
How would you implement it?

how are you going to turn it on/off if you disable that button?
Well, I seem to have fixed it for now. The power button is actually three pieces, the plastic button, a small sticker with a tiny piece of foil on it, and a tiny contactor on the circuit board. The button pushes down on the foil, and this connects the two piece contact on the circuit board together to complete the circuit. It looks like the piece with the foil was too tight over the contact on the board, so anytime any pressure was put on it in the area of the power button, it would make the connection. I simply pulled the foil piece off (the sticker), and stuck it back on, but more loosely than before. For now everything works correctly with no accidental power button pushes. However, all the little plastic tabs that hold the back on the tablet are apparently one time use, because they are all broken now, and the back is barely hanging on. Guess it's time to find a case that I can use with the dock so I don't lose the back off this thing!

Good fix, perhaps some glue?

its half way down.. i can lightly touch the power button and it will turn the screen on/off.. really becoming frustrating. id like to fix this on my own. any one been through this and have a fix? if i send it back through insurance, will it be completely covered? thank you.
Sounds like the tab the battery button connects to is either broke or simply undone itself. Taking the phone apart is the only way to find out.

Hello all:
Today my power button has become nonresponsive. I've done nothing unusual with my phone but I do remember early in the morning it rather strangely vibrating 3 times while I was browsing something, and it wasn't a phone call nor an incoming text, and I'm wondering if that was a signifier of what was to come. In any event, the phone is functional otherwise, for I can still slide out the keyboard in order to wake the screen. However, I dare not let the battery completely run out, lest I not be able to turn it on anymore, and I can't do a reboot of the phone (or screen shot, for that matter) since the power + volume down button combo doesn't work; it just lowers my volume. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I had that happen once - just pop the back cover off & re-seat it, make sure it aligns properly. See if that fixes it.

good advice.
before closing the back lid, try to push the button with your finger nails.
if you don't feel the click and just feel mushy, then you are screwed. I lost my camera button in that way from day 1 and I thought it's the way it is.
You have to expect a tactile feedback with every buttons.
