[Q] Facebook for Android unable to load Profile over WiFi - HTC Sensation

Hello there,
I've stumbled upon a problem with my new Sensation & the Facebook for Android official app.
Basically, certain parts of the app - namely the Profile page (would be your Wall in a normal browser) will not load/refresh over a WiFi connection.
Facts I have established are:
- Entire app works when WiFi is switched off & handset just uses 3G/mobile bb.
- With WiFi on, Newsfeed works, contacts work, everything works but your Profile feed. You can look at your info & your photos no problem, and changes are reflected. You cannot post status updates.
- Several different WiFi hotspots used, same result
- FB working fine on laptop clients using same WiFi hotspots
- FB for Android working fine on my gfs Desire using same WiFi hotspots
- m.facebook.com & full site work flawlessly
- FB for Sense (Friendstream, Sync & Sharing) works fine
- Exact same problem noted with Friendcaster - login screen wont show with WiFi enabled, once on 3G - login page shows up fine.
- Multiple clearing of accounts/cache - uninstalling update, testing, reinstalling update & combinations thereof - all fail.
- Checked FB Privacy & Account settings - made sure HTTPS is off etc.
So, essentially various parts of FB are not contactable using some official & unofficial apps over WiFi, but operate fine over 3G.
This is a Sensation from Singapore - just had an OTA update - 1.35.707.1 - which didnt make any difference (problem existed out-of-the-box..and the box was opened last Tuesday).
I've seen other threads vaguely pointing towards this issue on other handsets with various rom revisions, but nothing concrete with the testing I have done above.
Anyone got any bright ideas - or is it just a bug in a common API used by these apps or something...?
Has anyone else even noticed this issue?? Or am I just going mental...?
Cheers

After much mucking about, I traced this issue to a NAT translation problem with my wireess router. Effectively transacting the mtu down to 1100 for some reason. It was a glitch.
Saving config + Factory reset + loading saved config was the solution.

I had same problem. After change setting of my router, problem solved. Try change dns to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

I got the same problem. Done everything but its useless 'n I 'm going to mad just like the initiator of this thread.

MTU
wasi99 - check the MTU on your internet interface on your wan router; I have seen this problem several times now and always has been due to incorrect MTU for the internet connection in question.
For me, in the original post, I was on an ADSL2 connection, and the modem had its MTU set at 1500 (which is correct), however, my router internet interface was set to something weird like 1400. Once I changed the router internet interface to be 1500, all was well in android app land
Some things are more sensitive to incorrect MTU than others. You might be able to load www pages fine, but not be able to ftp to certain sites - for example.
Hope this helps, and saves some hair!

Probable long shot - cisco wifi no internet

Probably a long shot with the lack of activity on this forum.
I have a cisco wifi access point on wpa-wpa2-tsk at work. It has a simple wpa key and no additional logins needed to connect.
Laptops and iphones connect fine to it with absolutely no problem.
However my desire connects but has 0 internet connectivity.
Any ideas on this? ive read alot of issues with getting through additional security authentications on other android devices but theres no further authentication or mac filtering on this hub yet theres no internet connevtivity.
Ive checked the Ips dns and gateways and it retrieves them all from the DCHP fine also.
Hoping anyone can shed some light - other wpa networks such as my home network work perfect - i dont have any access to this router config but as i said iphones work fine on it lol.
Thanks
Have you tried enabling "Best Wi-Fi performance" in the Advance settings within Wifi Settings?
indeed i have however i thought that was more of a signal power booster rather than anything else and the hub is on my desk and giving me a full signal (just no data connection).
Its funny the desire actualy holds the wifi conneciton at a greater distance than the iphone 4 yet cant access the internet rendering it useless lol.
i think this is a deep wifi driver issue.
wired
did you try change security level (eg only wpa, not wpa2 - or for testing: non)
My desireS works on wpa2 - but had problems with an win-phone in former times with wifi - and that helped...
Or did you lock any ports?
Tried to update the router-firmware? (that helped a friend with an iphone)
its a work router so unfortunatly i dont have that kind of access to it. I guess a firmware update or muddling about would work, but its frustrating that iphones connect fine and super duper android doesnt know what to do with it.
I dont expect a fix any time soon on this.
Here the same problem with using my desire on a speedtouch modem. Nothing worked I switched off the modem and turned it on again. It works very good now.

so is it working now on speedtouch? what did u do more than restarting the modem ? please
I have the same problem with my speedtouch and I did return the modem to Factory sittings. There was no passwords or anything, I did also disconnect all devices on the network and Nothing seems to work with me ( the same problem I got on 2.3 on my Desire HD) , so that give me a little hope in solving this problem by updating or downgrading
And Since no one manage to root the desire s (with s-on), that just leave no options for me right know :/
___
I did contact HTC care but still waiting their response
___
EDIT: HTC responded to my problem by simply asking my to "reboot the phone and trying again, if problem exists contact us again" .... Are they serious ??!!
I have a speedtouch modem also but no sucess with reseting it .
WiFi problem
Hi there,
I'm experiencing the same problems with my Speedtouch router at home while the routers at my office (Sitecom and some other brand) work fine.
Connection gets established, but no data will be transferred.
Before my update from Froyo to Gingerbread, all was fine...
Hope some solution will be found soon.
Regards,
Guys ..
I've just got one ( using speedtouch 585 )
what I did is:
1. connect to network, then go to the network sittings and use Fixed IP for the device u want
2. on the phone go to: sittings > wireless & N... > Wi-Fi settings > Advance
3. check " Use static IP " and fell in ur network infos
* IP address ( u can find it in your router or long-press to get ur network info from ur phone)
* Gateway : 192.168.1.254 ( I'm using this one from the link above " don't know way" )
* Netmask: 255.255.255.0
* DNS1 & DNS2 from ur ISP or u can find it in the router
4. Save then u can go online .. working so far everywhere including market and maps and should work with everything else
Hope it helped ( my original post HERE )

Got my GT7+ yesterday and have a couple questions. Brightness? WiFi?

Edit: This is the Galaxy Tab 7 Plus 4G w/ TMobile...
So far I am loving it. I have had a plethora of Android tablets, including the Galaxy Tab 10.1 (until yesterday), and the original 7" Tab. Here is an issue I have not run into thus far...
Issue 1: I like my brightness settings to be %100 all the time. I always (almost) have a power cable with me, so I'm not worried about the drain. I have the auto setting turned off as to keep it from adjusting on it's own. However, everytime I open the status menu with the brightness slider, it is down to about %90-%95. I can't get it to stay on full. Also, and even more annoying, every time I open the browser, the brightness drops to like %30'ish and I have to open the status menu and slide it back up. The browser is where I REALLY need the full brightness the most, and it's the biggest issue.
I noticed this out of the box, adjusted settings, nogo, so I factory reset, and same issue. This is leading me to believe this is just a setting or something I am missing. Any ideas?
Issue 2 (THE BIG ONE): This Tab 7+ can't see my work wifi. It connects to my wifi at home just fine (did last night at least), which is also WPA, but it doesn't even see the one at work. It acts like it isn't there. In fact, and this is probably important, it is not seeing any networks up here, and there are at least 10-15 that should be visible from my location in the building (all but a couple from other companies). My G2x (Android 2.3) is connected to my work wifi just fine, and it sees all the others around us, the the Tab 7+ right next to it sees none. I also turned on the wifi router on my phone, it will not see that one either. I've verified the wireless is enabled, as well as turning it off and on multiple times and many reboots, nogo... I need it to hit the wifi at work and home so it isn't sucking my 4G data, so this is a big issue for me.Any ideas? I'm at a loss...
Also, to answer before it's asked: Nope, it's not rooted. I may do this at some point (as I do most of my devices), but for the moment I want to leave it stock and not mess with it. These issues seem like they should be resolved/nonexistant in the stock ROM, so I shouldn't have to root to fix them. Please tell me if this is incorrect...
Thanks for any help, sorry for the long post...
(pardon typos, I'm at work and multitasking, no time to proofread)
on the brightness broweer tip. use a different browser. its a known issue that the stock browser automaticaly dims the screen.

Thank you... You're right, it doesn't happen in Dolphin, however I am one of those weird people the really prefers the stock browser...
The biggest issue is the wifi not showing up. I am updating that issue with more info now...
what channel is the wireless network on? i had a similar problem on my windows laptop, it cannot see the wifi.. turned out that my wireless card(the driver actually) cannot see any wireless network beyond channel 12.. who knows you're having the same problem, might worth checking.

Ours is on 6... Thanks though
for me it was the opposite, it could see my home wifi, but not my work.
only was to solve it was to setup a static ip at work for the GT7...
I called samsung, they said its a problem with some routers. No eta on fix other than static IP.

Just to chime in - I also have the same problem connecting to my work wireless network but I think because it uses a SEPARATE authentication scheme.
The way my office WLAN work is like this:
1). Connect to the WLAN with SSID "Office", no encryption password required
2). Once the Tab is connected, it WILL receive an IP address
3). Open up a browser (Dolphin, etc.) and try to go to any website (Google, etc.)
4). Instead of going to the website I typed in in no. 3, an authentication page will show up
5). I need to enter my Windows AD account and password
6). If its successful, then I can start browsing the Internet (but not going to the Internal network, that requires VPN access).
Step 3 is where the Tab FAILED to do so. It just doesn't want to get redirected to the authentication page.

Yep, same way for me at work. OP did you try to manually add the wireless info vs letting the tab "find" the access point?

Also, here is a strange thing. About 2 hours ago it notified me there were wireless networks in range, and then showed me 2 random networks from another office. Suddenly, it saw nothing again. Then about 5 minutes ago, while I was in the bathroom ( ), it suddenly showed me ALL of the surrounding networks. Yay! I tried to connect to the one I use, it took my password, but never even attempted to connect. Then, they are gone. Now it doesn't see them.
What. The. Fuuuudge.

WiFi connectivity issues

Just received my Nexus 5 today and I'm noticing some strange connectivity issues while on WiFi. Some apps would complain network is unavailable, Facebook would load with no pictures, etc. This happens randomly, sometimes after few minutes others - an hour(s). Rebooting the phone or even cycling WiFi off/on usually recovers it, until it happens again. Cellular data works fine all the time. It can't be the WiFi network I'm connecting to as I have a myriad of devices that have worked and continue working without any problems.
I tried 3 other WiFi networks (different routers) with different configurations of encryption as well no encryption, switching between 5GHz, 2.4GHz, no matter what, problem occurs sooner or later.
Noticed on Google support forums few users describing exactly the same issue, surprised I didn't find reports here on XDA. Maybe not many people got their phones yet.
Anyone else getting the same "treatment" from their new Nexus 5?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
I am seeing exactly the same thing. Wifi will work great, then all of a sudden, nothing. Stays that way for a couple of minutes, then all of a sudden it works again.
How many bars does the sifi icon show ?
Number of bars doesn't matter. I can have full bars sitting a meter from the router and issue would happen anyways.
I tried playing with WiFi optimizations in advanced settings to no avail unfortunately. Hopefully this is a bug that Google can quickly fix with a software update

Same here. Got my N5 yesterday and experienced the same at home. Same for my brother.
Hope that gets clarified soon. Not the nicest feeling having a new phone with that (or any) kind of issue...
Yes, my N5 started doing the same on my home wifi connections (using Apple's Airport Extreme 2.4/5GHz router).
The Playstore or Youtube apps would not display images or take forever. When I switched wifi off those apps worked fine.
I got it working again when I "forgot" my wifi setting for the 2.4 and 5Ghz channels then reconnected to the 2.4. I'll let that run for a day or so then try activating the 5Ghz.
Hmmm... This may have been what was going on here...

Nah. Its no connection issue. We can connect easily and have full signal bars, but still no connection randomly for a couple of minutes.

Hmm - no I don't think that's the one. Phone connects fine, just over time randomly does this thing with the connectivity issues.
--EDIT
OOPs my mistake...
I looked in Setting/Wifi/Advanced ...
I turned OFF "Avoid Poor Connections"
and everything seems to work the way i want ( when i tell it to go to Wifi, it does that )
--EDIT end
i added star to this issue because of same problem . If enough stars get added Google may get on it.
(Didn't know if I should create a new thread for this as it is a wifi issue but seems to be soemthing different than what the OP decribed, my issues are related only to playstore app downloading)
I too am having terrible wifi issues on my new Nexus 5. But mine are different from those described here I think. Whenever I cycle through the wifi, turn it off and on again it doesn't fix the problem (not temporarily and ofc not permanently)
When browsing the web, the play store and mostly everything it works great and is very fast, BUT when downloading or updating an app the wifi speed is practically non-existant.
Sometimes showing that it will take 25 hours to download a 25mb app :S
This while my Galaxy Nexus on the same wifi network is as speedy as ever.
I have tried factory resetting my Nexus 5, I have cleared the cache and data of the play services app and of the play store app, I have tried changing the wifi bands (from auto, to 5 to 2.4 and back to auto), I have turned off the wifi optimization, but none of those things helped. I even tried some DNS HSPC wifi settings thingy I read here
That didn;t help either.
I have unplugged my router and replugged it in but that didn't help either.
I literally had to leave my brand new Nexus 5 downloading all night just so that it could install the apps I wanted on it. So far for playing around with the phone on day 1
What makes it even weirder is that occasionaly the wifi issues resolve itself and I can get good download speeds for several seconds or sometimes up to a few minutes, but then right after it is straight back to crap speeds. Some other reported that only while making a portion of the map available offline in Google Maps their app download speeds were great, but that didn't work for me either.
I don't know what to do and if it is a hardware issue or a software issue. Please help me.
Below some info that might be useful to helping me solve this.
White Nexus 5 32GB
Bought from US play store
Shipped to and using it in the Netherlands
Currently does not have a SIM card inside (that is still in my Galaxy Nexus till the wifi issues are resolved)
Unrooted, only installed the mandatory update during the setup
All apps downloaded are apps that are also on my Galaxy Nexus which works without a hitch
Any and all suggestions/ideas/help are welcome
I think the problem somehow related to DNS. I found that if I configure static IP settings and point DNS to Google's instead router's, things work normally. I reconfigured my router to advertise 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as DNS servers for the DHCP and now for over 24 hours I haven't experienced the disconnection issue.
If your router cannot be reconfigured, try assigning static IP settings and Google's DNS to see if it helps.
I still believe that's a software bug on the phone, we can't blame a device (the router) that has worked for years and works fine with everything else but the Nexus 5, being at fault.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
I currently can't reconnect to my Wi-Fi at home as it's stuck showing the last scan I did some 40 miles away at a shopping centre earlier today.
Of course none of these networks are now present, yet all mine are shown as not found!
Guessing a reboot will fix it as toggling Wi-Fi didn't. Mobile data is working fine.

Not as tech as I want to be, so could you explain to me what the difference is in setting the DNS to Google's instead of routers? I have no idea what DNS is/does so what happens when you point it soemwhere else?

DNS stands for Domain Name Service. What it basically does is to translate those easy to remember names such as www.Google.com to the actual numeric address (also called IP address) of the server that serves that site on the Internet. Home routers almost always sport built-in DNS service to speed up name translation requests from internal devices. What I figured is going on on the nexus 5 is it "doesn't seem to like" some DNS servers. Works fine with some, doesn't with others. What happens is at one point, for whatever reason, it stops being able to translate names to addresses and as result "decides" there is no working connection as it fails to connect to the corresponding servers. Google hosts publicly available DNS servers with the easy to remember IP addresses of 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 which apparently Nexus 5 doesn't have problem working with. Once it gets "instructed" to use them instead router's, everything works fine.
At least that's what I figured is going on so far.

BTW, just found one small and very useful app that can display information about WiFi connection as well as DNS servers associated to it.

Thanks, but that wouldn't fix my issue right, because it doesn't explain why only play store downloads are terribly slow while the rest works fine.
Gave it a shot and at first it seemed to work, but after a short while the problem re-arose
DNS has nothing to do with weak or lost WIFI connections...
You can be perfectly connected, at full n speed to a WIFI AP without getting proper acces to Internet : THIS can DNS isue.
But in no way a DNS isue can leads to lost or very weak WIFI signal.
2 solutions are possible with Nexus 5 :
- WIFI module has the same badly coded shape as camera one...
- its hardware related wich, no need to say, could be the worst case...
I am having the same issue since day one. In fact it just occurred as I was replying to this thread. Mostly occurs when the phone comes out of sleep mode. However it will occur often and at random.

Facebook/ Instagram apps wont load photos on wifi??

Anyone having this issue. Not exactly sure what changed in my wifi setup but in the facebook and instagram apps photos in my feed wont load. When i switch over to mobile data or use the web page in the browser over wifi they load fine. For some reason my wifi does not play nice with instagram and facebook apps. This is on my galaxy s4 but have tried several different devices and they all have the same issue.
Has anyone run into this problem? Tried searched and found some people who had the opposite issue with it not loading over mobile data but havent found a thread on this. Thanks for any tips.
I am having the exact same issues. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am having the exact same issue, its seem to be a router problem, my newsfeed load fine one 4g and other wifi (i have a galaxy s2), but on my home wifi the newsfeed for facebook or instagram won't load, my sister is also experiencing the same problem with here galaxy S......any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
FYI: i've tried restarting the router, upgrading the firmware which didn't work. also before i realized it was just the router i've tried force closing, clearing the cache and restarting the phone, i've also uninstall and reinstall the app several times.
I had a similar problem but I sorted it out today on my Nexus 4. My problem was, the default gateway on my phone was different from what it has to be for that specific wifi network.
In windows one can check the default gateway by running command prompt (cmd) and typing ipconfig.
On your phone you also have to check the advanced settings for that wifi network that you have problems with.
I set the Ip settings to static from DHCP and entered the default gateway values from my pc to my phone. You can also get another ip for your phone in that advanced settings tab if you think there may be an ip conflict but as I told, my problem was the differing default gateway values. I haven't changed the DNS which was google dns by default.
Key thing was the default gateway values for me and I'm hoping this will help many of you.

Strange Connectivity issue

Well, another strange issue with my brand new MM3.
Global rom there.
I noticed that two (and only two) apps ("Ip cam viewer" and "Vera Mobile") are perfectly working when connected to WiFi but as soon as I switch to LTE, they stop working.
The apps are launching, but says that there is a connectivity issue. Of course, I checked the regarding parameters (i.e. ip public adress, port, password...) on booth apps but as those paramaters perfectly works with another phone, I really don't understand what's this issue.
No problem with youtube, or gmail, or any other app...
Anyone can help ?
Thanks
Am I the only one facing this issue ?
This is probably to do with your Vera app settings. I don't use the Vera Mobile app, I'm still using Home Buddy, but the app communicates through the external MIOS servers unless you're in local mode (on your home wifi). Also, check the IP address of your Vera (you really need to make it static, or reserved on the router), otherwise you'll have difficulties in local mode if the IP address ever changes.
The other thing you can try is logging into MIOS through a browser session and check that it works, if not then you know you have an issue between the MIOS servers and Vera.

Thanks for your reply !
It works while logging through browser.
My vera's ip is fixed.
Furthermore, my ipcameras also have fixed ip adress, and the problem is the same with the "ipcamviewer app".
Every other apps are perfectly 4G working so... WTF ?
As I said, it's nothing to do with 4G or the Mix 3, it's because the MIOS server is unable to reach your Vera through a remote connection. I can't log in to Vera Mobile to take a look because I don't have the login credentials for the account I created when I tried to "upgrade" to a Vera Plus, but to resolve the problem you're probably going to need to talk to MiCasa Verde support. If you want to prove it, try connecting to a wifi network other than your home network and see if you get the same problem as when on 4G.
Maybe I'm not correctly explaining my problem.
First, I've got a Veraplus.
Regarding Vera Mobile app :
- local wifi : no problem
- other wifi network : no problem
- 4G with web brower : no problem
- 4G with VeraMobile app : issue
--> so I think it means that the MIOS server is able to reach my VeraPlus through a remote connection, right ?
Second :
Ipcamviewer app
Local Wifi : no problem
Other Wifi network : no problem
4G : issue
So I really really think that the problem comes from the MM3, especially since I previously owned a Mi Mix and there was no issue at all with both apps Ipcamviewer and VeraMobile...
All my apps were restored from my google account, so is it possible that the problem comes from a "cache" I should delete (restoring apps include ip adress, port, login and password).
If so, how to "clean the cache" ?
You can clear the cache on the apps by long pressing (not sure if this works on MIUI) and clicking info, then clearing storage. Alternatively, find the app list in Settings and do the same thing that way. This isn't going to be a MM3 problem. I have the same issue occasionally with Home Buddy and it's always a MIOS server issue. The connection to the MIOS server is actually the other way round, it's an outbound connection from the VeraPlus to MIOS, so you may also want to check that the Vera unit can get out. I couldn't live with UI7 on the Plus, so it's still sitting in the box and I stayed with the Vera 2.
Ok.
Let's suppose that there were a problem with the MIOS server.
BUT :
That does not explain why there would be a connectivity problem with the IpCamViewer app...
There have been tons of IP cam related problems for months, on all devices. I use YiCams and it works perfect on iOS. But on our MM3 and also Note 8, they don't work right at all. I see the same issues with all the major IP cam services. Xiaomi told me it has been some sort of persistent server problem, but why its taken 2 months so far to fix, I don't know.
My "best" guess is maybe they are all using the same push provider and/or 3rd party framework, and it has **** the bed (they all seemed to upgrade their apps around the same time, too, and they all look suspiciously similar)

Very strange answer from Xiaomi considering the fact that I never had this issues with my previous Mi Mix... Which is still perfectly working in 4G with both IpCam and Vera Mobile apps...
Still unsolved.
Am I really the only one facing this issue ?

What does that tell you?
More than words, this is what happen with wifi (first pic) and with 4G (second pic)
