Samsung focus Mango issues? - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I have read everything and feel I am ready to make the jump but I have seen a few people say the Samsung focus is stuck in 16bit color mode when you update to Mango and at this time no root access so we can't make it 24bit color again is this true and does anyone have a fix for this yet? Also any other issues I should know about before I make the jump to mango?

There are no issues. Just read (carefully!) forums first. This guy http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10619966 also will be helpful ;-)

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1155853
The main walk through is the one I was going to use posted by Hx4700 killer is that good to use, or is there a better guide?

Use this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1152422
P.S. Where are lot of mess and noobs guesses and comments on these topics. Just mark some important keypoints:
1) U need a correct version of Diagnosis
2) U need to copy a file unlock.xml (you may also add a lot of other reg hacks to that file) to the root/provxml folder (root is the main "/" folder, don't create a folder named root, just create folder provxml) before updating to Mango

Actually after updating to Mango on my Samsung Focus and HTC Trophy, the display got way better especially on the Trophy. It was a huge improvement.

I also notice MUCH brighter more vivid colors after the upgrade. Not sure if the video driver was improved, or if they tweaked the colors a bit to just show better, but definitely a marked improvement.

Focus Mango update working great for me I even restored to make sure backup worked. I've HD beta since day it came out with SanDisk 32gb sd card and mugen 3200mhz battery and 0 problems have happened...knock on wood :-D

Thanks marios, I've already got the Diamond Service Manual and I noticed the positioning of the sim card and screws are different so it wasn't useful.
If I don't get the service manual by this Friday, I will attempt opening my HTC Touch pro without it. (Not the best outcome but I can't resist myself from using my new toy daily! ;-))
Thanks anyway!

Well, just an update, I took apart my HTC Touch Pro today and removed both cameras. It was slightly easier than doing the same on my HTC Tytn II previously.
I didn't encounter any tricky parts at all. I think HTC are manufacturing the phones in a really mass production factor so it makes it easier to produce.
If you want some photos of the opening up.. then reply here and I will post them here.
Glad to hear that makuk.
Having the pictures would be nice for other users as well...
Yes, makuk, please post the pictures.

My workplace does not allow any cameras on the premises, including camera phones. Max one warning is given and phone/camera can be confiscated for good + criminal record if you do naughty things with the camera!
Disabling/covering up/removing lens doesn't count. Since the cameras have now been removed, they can't do me for bringing my HTC Touch Pro phone into the premises as there is no physical camera(s) inside my phone.
You can't find a cool phone nowadays without cameras!

I occasionally visit facilities that do not allow camera phones. When I ordered my HTC Fuze from AT&T Premier I had to choose between "with camera" and "without camera." I ultimately decided that "without camera" would kill the ebay value if I didn't like the phone and needed to sell it. But I was happy to see AT&T offer the phone without camera because that has been a selling point for some BlackBerry devices.

What's the bad?

Wow,,,, the touch pro forum is saturated with a wide variety of complaints! Can my fellow xda'ers tell me what is the Touch Pro's universal drawbacks? I know that most consider the screen to be a tad small. I think real user insights are much better than "Professional" reviews.
just sold my omnia and got a Touch Pro
I'm totally happy, this keyboard is awesome!
keyboard is the best, 5 rows including a row for numbers.... excellent.
I don't see that many complaints.
Here are the main problems with the Touch Pro:
!- GPS lags!
2- Camera application is buggy! Slow zoom, touch and focus works only after a dumb picture, after some focuses the auto focus stops to work. I tested it with 3 phones.
4- virtual keyboard(SIP) keeps popping up when using the real keyboard.
3- HTC don't replay to support emails and don't have a ROM update to fix these bugs.

why won't HTC have a ROM update? They offered an update when diamond first came out, I hope they'd offer more updates as TP rolls out in more countries.
100% of that complaint can be fixed with a rom update, those aren't even that many complaints and remember the phone isnt even out yet in the US, most of those complaints originated from users in the US with unlocked european versions that were never meant to be used in the states. Now thats not to say the phone doesn't need work but all those problems could be fixed easily with an update.
I agree that all the complaints could be solved by a ROM update, but I am holding to use it as my primary phone, till a firmware update comes, but I am really disappointed with HTC support.
I am not an USA user...
And I am still using my old P1i as my primary phone, at least the camera works very well, the alarms always work and I don't need to reset it all the time as the Touch Pro.
So maybe the touch pro isn't a fat brick with a tiny screen, a lousy dpad, lagging GPS and half buggy apps? A good keyboard and a high res screen doesn't redeem these issues really.
I sure wish there were something better out there for us. So far a shocking 80% of users are happy.
I am over all very happy with mine, yes it is slow at times and buggy. It will get better over time. My iphone was rubbish I could not restore like I can with my pro. Also having the sat nav is fantastic. I use it purely for emailing, phone and sat nav nothing more and it does them all great.
Well I'm happy with my TP, helped me find this place and managed to pick some great advice and tips up on the way
I think how much you paid greatly affects your satisfaction with the phone. I was very happy with my Fuze, but not happy enough to keep it for the $1,000 I sold it for. When it comes out for $300, it will be well worth the money. It will even be worth the $550 it will sell for without contract with AT&T, but not $1,000.
the mentioned buggy issues in earlier posts are indeed a bit annoying. but overall it is a very nice and goodlooking phone. The keyboard is absolutly brilliant, specialy for me as a former HTC touch user. So, although i am waiting for some updates from HTC, i really am happy with this phone.

Why care for support emails when you have a great device?
Hey jamespaulritter, I've started a thread with most frequently TP issues (and solutions/work-around):

Because TP out of the box has some annoying bugs. And the fix for this issues should come from htc.
I remember reading somewhere that the Earphone volume was very low and an issue. Surprised no one mentions that in this thread.
I am contemplating buying one once it is available in my country but I want to be doubly sure before I buy one because I will be using it as my primary phone.
I would love to hear your experiences.
Most of the problems dissapear when I disabled touchflo, only thing still there is the gps-lag witch is a big problem.........so I am not very happy.
Best Phone I've Ever Owned...can't Wait For The Hd!
I am very happy with my phone overall. All of the performance issues were solved with a few minor tweaks, I know I will find it even better once i get around to loading up a cooked ROM.
GPS does lag, but there seem to be a number of tweaks to help this and personally i find the gps does work, just not that well. My last phone didn't have a gps. Future roms and cooked roms alike will fix these minor issues, the phone hasn't even been out long, give people some time to work with it.

That's definitely a software issue, my Fuze had the AT&T ROM and I can tell you it had no GPS lag at all. It was as good as any GPS unit I've ever used, no less a phone.

Awesome G-sensor animated lock application

Hmm doesnt work.Error.....
This is what the site says about S'Skin Lock
S’Skin Lock Application has 1 setting menu to set locking time and screen backlight.
Currently they are working on Samsung Omnia only, I have tested them on HTC HD2 too but they aren’t running. If any of our readers got them to work on their devices let us know.
it's on
http://www.wmskins.com/blog/sskin-lock-new-animated-lockscreen-application-for-windows-mobiles
must have hardware detection inside, even on samsung it only work on certain model.
i would like to have that 2
i checked and it requires the flashlite_mmi.dll
it is available in Omnia2 dump OS.nb.
Dont know if it uses any more sensors from Omnia. I would like also to use this one on HD2. Any more advance ppl could help maybe?

has anyone contacted the developers regarding a htc compatible version?
We can try to install the adobe flash lite 2.1. Now I can swtich on the setting button in the startMeun. But the srceen lock still can't run. >_<

Whether I have sent an e-mail having asked there will be a support of other phones. I look forward to hearing. And program YellowMan, Butterfly I have started on the HD2 but G-sensor does not work in the program.
But the blocking picture is displayed also an unblocking works correctly. In Butterfly the butterfly flies at a touch to the screen as is shown in video, but the back background is static.

I completely understand: The iphone is a toy, the HD2 is a powerful device with endless productivity possibilities... But why does that have to mean that the opposite is also true - Only the iphone can have cool toys? Never understood that argument...

O2 Upgrade 1.72.xxxx

Morning All,
Just a quick question to those who recently upgraded to the new O2 Rom....
The Manila version is 2012, but I can't for the life of me see any of the talked about differences (extra tabs, ability to reposition contacts etc...) At present I looks and feels like o2 / HTC have just renames 1920 to 2012.... Can someone prove me wrong?
Also whilst I'm on the line.... I've lost the home screen icon for the taskmanager and can't find (and believe me I've searched) for the right cab / tweak to get it back....
Finally, (sorry) way before o2 got their act into gear there were masses of modifications to the 2012 version of Manila.... Have these all died out?
Thanks for your pearls!!!
Interesting...
I've just sent my HD2 back to O2 for repairs (batt/charging problem)
Wanted to know, will they update it to the latest Rom/Radio/Manila?
Not sure if I want them to now....
Going to mess up my ready to go back up.... sigh... I feel a new build coming on...
I believe that they will - happened to me previously....
Does Manila 2012 support landscape? All I get a blank screen.....
I've never been so confused... thought I knew the phone well........

Since ive had it, it hasnt slowed down at all or needed a soft reset. Noticably faster.
Can anyone tell me how to find out what hotfixes are included in the Rom so I know what I still have to install?

don't get sad dude, now it is possible for all phones,
using this amazing trick from giammo you can change your OEM manufacturer as HTC and install any HTC app, I think most of them will run on most phones,
at least the Sound Enhancer reported to work correctly,

Thanks for this insightful info. But the thing is I am not dev unlocked and don't even know how to. Will the new Chevron unlock work?
I have read a little bit about dev unlocks, but still confused about the concept. Will you clarify the procedure right from the easiest way to Dev unlock and finally installing sound enhancer?
Btw, why can't any developer make a similar app like sound enhancer and put it in market? I am ready to pay for it and many more will also be willing. That's what market is for!
Is there HTC enhancer xap available as a standalone app? And, can it be deployed after Chevron dev unlock. I am on unlocked at&t Samsung focus with official mango in India.
I am asking this because I believe we can't sideload apps unless we are dev unlocked. I also believe we cannot change registry values unless we are dev unlocked?
I am having an Android phone as well. Once I am able to deploy this xap successfully on my Samsung focus, I am gonna sale my Android.
Kindly guide me?
Cant get sound enhancer to show, or any other HTC app for that matter...
Could someone be so kind and upload the xap to xda?

I have both HD7 and Dell Venue Pro, unlocking them is different than the Focus,
Here is the link how to unlock the focus, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1271963
And I'm sure in its Forum you will find a way how to modify the registery and proceed,
To make an application like this you will need a licence from SRS Laps Co.
I think it is difficult to find official app to do this, try to unlock your phone and sideload the xap.
good luck

Just out of curiousity, has anyone tested deploying this enhancer on Samsung Omnia 7 or Focus?
It's probably not actually the audio chip, it's the driver. The chip might even be the same, but without the driver interface the app can't actually control the chip's behavior.
@mrkillah: I guarantee you it won't work. I mean, you're welcome to try, but the app isn't going to be able to do anything. You guys are asking if installing the nVidia Control Panel on a Windows box that doesn't have any nVidia display drivers will let you adjust anti-aliasing. No, it won't - computers don't work that way. The Sound Enhancer app isn't magical - it needs to talk to a system component that is only present on HTC phones before it can do anything for you.
I'm getting Error 0x81030120 Anyway, thanks for the info scoobysnacks
I went to this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1271963 provided ihabsad
And found out the phone needs to be interop unlock. Check the thread for more info.
It's a big hassle for the 1st Gen HTC phones but... he said that he'll find a way
