[Q] unlock HTC IS - General Questions and Answers

Hi, I can not unlock my IS. I have followed different procedures for release including those posted in this thread. Nothing to do. I state that I did the latest update on fota HTC, the one that updates the radio. I report the data on my phone:
Base band 20.2808.30.085.AU_3805.06.03.03_M
Software number: 2.30.405.1 CL88716

[Q] updated to Gingerbread (via Kies)

I've been doing a search to see if its worth updating my stock Galaxy S 4G to Gingerbread via the official update with Samsung Kies.
Does anyone know of a specific list of all the pros and cons to do so?
I've been pretty happy with my phone these last few months, but if the update can truly improve the performance, I'd probably give it ago.
I'm hoping to develop a little game plan for doing so, perhaps updating to Gingerbread, and then rooting the phone to erase a few programs like TelNav.
Any know the best way to root the phone once its been updated?
I'm also curious if anyone knows if the Gingerbread update will allow me to install Skype, because as of now my phone can't even install it (it just reboots with a failed install every time).
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Yes. Worth it. Do it.
Here is a guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21954884
what about Skype?
Thanks for the links. I will tread carefully.
Do you happen to know if Skype with video will work once the Gingerbread update is installed?

my phone is using a chip from another company (movistar-peru). would there be a problem if i update to gingerbread trough kies? i guess they might have changed the configuration of the phone. any advice?
A chip? Do you mean a SIM card? If so, and you have a Galaxy S 4G - SGH-T959V you can update.
Wont his phone be relocked once he upgrades?
I'm not sure if it will re-lock. If so, he can use FB's unlocker script to re-unlock it.
@migueltr14 as lumin stated if you have that model of phone then yes you can update. Be aware tho it is possible to have to unlock the phone. If you dont have the unlock code I suggest getting it first.
Or you can root the device after and use the method in the link below.

Sent From My Rockin' Galaxy S 4G
Oh thanks for the infor!, but when you say that i might have to unlock the phone, you're talking about paying for a web site to give the code or there's another way of getting it?
You can go that route. Or if you root the phone the link in my previous post will tell you how to get the code yourself.
Thanks a lot!, i updated my phone, SIM card works fine (didn't need the unlock code)

[RADIO SPARK_W] SparkW Radio Collection (Verizon Trophy CDMA) [Updated 04-14-2012]

The following radios are for Spark_W (Verizon Trophy CDMA) only. Do not attempt to flash these to a GSM Trophy (meaning any Trophy NOT branded by Verizon Wireless).
To flash these radios, you must already have HSPL installed! Click here to find out how!
You only need to pick the radio you want, and flash it. That is all that is required.
I have been able to successfully extract the original shipping radio, and the radio update for Mango (v1) to files that can be flashed to the Spark_W (Verizon Trophy CDMA) without flashing an entire rom. This is really nifty for when you downgrade your SPL to 1.03 using the method described in my downgrade thread, and you are forced to use the shipping radio. Now you have the option to flash a newer radio (and for myself, the v1 Mango radio works much better than the shipping NoDo radio).
To check what radio you currently have installed on your phone, you can either enter the bootloader by shutting down your phone, then pressing vol-down + power when starting the phone, or by navigating to Settings=> About Phone=> More info.
In my own personal testing, I did not get any factory reset by flashing these radio files. If your phone factory resets flashing these radios, navigate to Settings=> About Phone=> More info and post what hardware version you are using. All testing on my own phone was done on hardware revision 003.
The flashing software included with these radio's is a newer version that doesn't ask a bunch of questions! Once you have put your phone into bootloader mode, run the ROMUpdateUtility.exe and it will automatically start flashing the radio to your phone!

If you used the SPL downgrade method, you will probably have this radio.[/B]

[B]Third Mango shipping Radio from official 8107 rom. ([U]Mango v3 Radio[/U])[/B]
I hope for those of us already testing custom HSPL roms on Spark_W that this will be a huge help. I personally get much better reception all around with the later radio (at least in CDMA). Please feel free to comment on CDMA/GSM reception of each radio, etc!
I am surprised no one has created a thread like this for Spark GSM radios. The method of extraction is simple. (Use OsBuilder to extract rom image. In settings put SPAW1000 ID and check radio.nb and uncheck os.nb. Build rom.. on other phones you'd replace the ID with whatever is required).
Now, get testing these radio's out and give feedback!
*edit* I'm not sure if Mango v2's drivers included a radio update. I will have to flash back to stock and confirm sometime this week, unless someone running and up-to-date stock rom can tell me?
*edit 2* [04-01-2012] It's not joke, I added Mango v2 radio. Best radio I have used so far.
*edit 3* [04-14-2012] Added Mango v3 radio from 8107 official Verizon rom (RUU_Spark_W_S_VERIZON_WWE_2.04.605.02_Radio_NV_0215_NV58008_RELEASE.exe available in football's rom thread). Yes, I know the version number is lower and it isn't a typo this time! That is the reported version! It's also notable that this radio is larger in size then previous versions!
Yes there is a newer radio with the Mango V2 Drivers.
OS Verison: 7.10.7720.68
Firmware revision number: 2305.13.20110.605
Hardware revision number: 0003
Radio Software Version: 1.53.00.12.01_23.17w.05.13U
Radio hardware version: 3.23.D4
Bootloader version: 2.1.230513.10
Chip SOC version: 2.3.0.5.13
It's no joke, I added the v2 Mango radio today. I didn't realize that Football had released a Mango v2 official rom, so I extracted it from that.
Thanks for these. Bumped my phone up to Mango v2 yesterday without any problems. Whether my reception improved or not, I can't tell, but it certainly didn't get worse so hooray!
Minor thing: you typoed the version number of the Mango v2 radio. It's 1.53..., not 1.52...
Fixed on both link and filename on mediafire. Thanks.
football just released a brand spankn' new stock rom. I'm going to see if it has a new radio (Mango v3 radio?).... lets see.
SPL downgrade
If you do the SPL downgrade, do you have to install the radios in order or can you jump right to mango v2?
The radios' flash just like roms, so you do not need to install each one at a time. Pick the radio you want and install.
As a side note, I have attempted to install the Mango v3 radio using this method recently, but no luck. I'll have to take a closer look this weekend when I have time.
Newest Mango v3 radio posted from official 8107 rom. I have no clue why the versioning is a lower number, i checked and rechecked to make sure it was correct!
My personal experience so far, is that this radio performs similar to Mango v2.
Yeah, I saw that lower number and wondered why I would want that, but if it's from the official release, I guess I'll try it. Thanks for your work.
Yeah, worst case scenario is that you can switch back. Since flashing a different radio is easy, no biggie. I'm glad we have THIS many choices for radios even though only one carrier carries SparkW.
Thanks for this !!!!
I would like to add that 1.53.00.02.15_23.17w.05.13U Manga v3 radio may also be part of added support for CMAS or Commercial Mobile Alert System. CMAS was added to the operator package of the Verizon Mango v3 driver:
From: 438ABF0C-B691-4259-A742-1F224FA3B5BA.rgu
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\ShortMsg\Settings]
"CmasOperatorEnabled"=dword:1
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ShortMsg\Settings]
"CMASAlertOption"=dword:1
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\SMS\Broadcast]
"TestPort"=dword:4370
These are the new registry settings, and they did not exist before.
1.53.00.02.15_23.17w.05.13U might be required for this to work, but I have no idea how to tell. It's an interesting feature so you'll need to check your registry to see if it is enabled. I know DFT Freedom doesn't have it (yet), I'm not sure about ansar's roms since I haven't tried it yet.
I updated my wife's park_w to Tango via Zune (bone stock phone) and she has a even newer radio on it, in-case you want to find it and add it to the list
Still no official stand alone rom from Football. Unless he or someone else releases one, I have no easy way to extract radios.
I looked into finding the radio files in the rom update.cab files... but its a bit dangerous even if I could find it. :/
Unlock
My phone is Verizon Trophy with locked sim, If I flash any of those radios will I get carrier unlock?

Need to unlock SIM

I have a Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000M which has the SIM locked to Bell Canada.
Firmware: 2.3.3
Baseband Version: I9000UGKG3
Kernel Version : 2.6.35.7-I9000UGKG3 [email protected] #2
Build number: GINGERBREAD.GKG3
I have tried flashing a half dozen to a dozen different ROMs using the latest version of ODIN and following the given procedures. None of them have led me to getting the SIM lock removed. They either brick my phone, or just leave it still SIM locked to Bell Canada. Fortunately the download function continues to work and I have been able to get the phone unbricked by applying I9000UGKG3_I9000BMCKG3_BMC, or I9000UGKG3_I9000BMCKG3_VMC. One doubt that I have is whether I am identifying the correct ROM files from this XDA web site.
Could someone direct me to the right files and procedures for getting this phone SIM unlocked so that I can use my SIM from Public Mobile?
Thanks sincerely.

One S rooted and S-On but can't update software

Hi everybody
I have One S with unlocked bootloader, rooted with supersu, S-On at present.
What I want to do is to update the android software, but as you'll be aware, is not possible on a "tampered" device. The software update utility says there is an update available "3.16.61.11" for my Orange UK One S (which is actually network unlocked and running on EE sim).
Is there anywhere or anyone that can help me to update the software as the phone is running terribly slow and very sluggish, and can't use the device to it's full potential.
I have read a number of the xda threads about changing/checking and matching baseband (radio) and other things but with varied successes it seems.
Any help will be greatly received!!
Android version 4.1.1
Software number: 3.16.61.10
Baseband: 1.12.50.05.05_10.28.50.08L
Build number: 3.16.61.10 CL 139042 release-keys
Thanks!!!

Clarification on Firmware Versions

Hello,
I have an unlocked Sprint SM-G930P S7 and I am using it on an AT&T network. I would like to change the firmware to match the network and/or remove all of the sprint bloatware. Currently, when I boot the phone I get a service error asking me to contact technical support. Everything works, I just get a single error at boot and have unusable sprint apps. My options appear to be G930A (AT&T) or G930U (USA Generic?). I want to remain on a stock rom.
I have two questions:
1. If I flash my phone to the AT&T version will this lock my phone? My understanding is that all US hardware is the same but I keep seeing threads on how the AT&T phones are locked down (maybe this is no longer the case?). Will this prevent me from changing firmware or carriers in the future?
2. Is G930U the correct firmware for me to flash? From searches, it appears that the G930F (International) firmware is much more popular, but I am pretty sure I should stick with the "U" version in the US. Is there a specific "U" version I should use? Some threads discuss a boot loader requirement and I have no idea what version boot loader I have.
Phone Details are as follows:
Model: SM-G930P
Software: G930PVPS4APJ2
Baseband: G930PVPS4APJ2
Security Patch Level: October 1, 2016
Thanks for the help and clarification
