[Review] Minimal Reader pro (~70p) or (free) - HTC Sensation

I have decided to do a few reviews to fill the void in my day, these reviews will be exclusive to the sensation XDA forum, but feel free to repost wherever, though credit where credit is due
Todays review is for Minimal reader pro, I simple but beautiful looking rss reader for your android home screen.
I have personally tried a lot of the rss readers on the market in order to find something that suited my simplistic taste. Minimal Reader is a home screen widget that is just that, minimalistic and simple.

SetupThis widget took literally seconds to set up, this is mainly due to its link to Google Reader which allows the importation of RSS feeds saved to the google service, selecting a feed is as simple as checking a tick box and selecting done, with that you are good to go. Minimal Reader also has the ability to add RSS links to the home screen on the fly yet these ‘New’ links are not saved to Google Reader which is a bit of a bummer if for some reason you remove the widget containing a new ‘unsaved’ feed, expect a visit back to the site to reclaim your RSS link. This is an area that I personally think could be improved by allowing the user to add links to Google reader for future use.
Visuals and Interface
Visually the widget is pleasing, with two built in styles Dark Glass and Light Glass, both looking good on the default sense launcher. There are several options that edit the look and feel of the widget which can be done on the fly. ‘Text with buttons and arrows, text with arrows and text only’
Text with buttons and arrows gives you a visual indication on where to press (obviously) for settings and refresh and also displays the arrows to flip between pages. Text and arrows displays the feed and the page arrows, and text only…. Well you get the idea.
Using text only, for the first time I though, Woah! I cant refresh move pages ect, but, these options are still available. Using ‘text only’ clicking where the icons are, have the desired effect. Tops left refresh feed, bottom left Settings top right page up, bottom right page down…… and for those pesky lefties… these buttons can be flipped…. NICE
The Popup feature of this app (which is just as customizable as the main app) is one of the features I like most. Unlike most of the apps where the clicked link will open in the phones web browser, Minimal readers opens the link in a convenient pop up box, allowing you to read the whole article (feed permitting of course) from the home screen. From this pop up you can open in a web browser, share to social networks and add to favourites.
Foot Print
I have 2, 2x2 widgets running on my home screen using a manual refresh,. At current they leaving a 0.99mb footprint, not bad yet being a total noob in the area of Memory management I am happy to be corrected.
Verdict
I feel there are things in this widget that could be work on, the main aspect of that is adding links into Google Reader, in future versions the developer will be adding a ’Scrolling’ feature which would make the widget much more like a news ticker. I personally feel this would be a welcome addition giving the phones home screen some life.
I would defiantly give the free version a try, and see how things look for your phone it’s a very nice looking easy to use RSS ready with plenty of features!
That concludes my first review for you guys, constructive criticism is welcomed, don’t forget to say thanks is you found this review useful

I love the idea! There should be buttons to scroll through the through the feeds though. What happens if you tap the news feed?
Servus,
Charlie.
That looks like an awesome widget! As for the last post, well I'd probably do something better than just one story with some next/previous buttons. If you could make 5 icons or so along the bottom of the clock, one for each rss category/feed and switch to just the top story of each when pressed then you could avoid loading huge amounts of data for just a widget. This would still give the user some variety and the ability to see many types of information from the home screen, something I'm very fond of.
Looks pretty slick. Maybe you could add some navigation buttons and a refresh button. Does it auto scroll through the headlines?
Thx, for the valuable feedback!
Currently the rss content get refreshed every 30min, the widget switches every 10sec the item that gets displayed.
When you click on the text the browser opens to the responding page of the current rss post.
If you click on the watch you get into the config activity where it is possible to change the loading / refresh times and also the rss feed xml http link.
I'm not sure about the buttons, because there is so less space in the widget, if i show the datum, category or buttons, i have to remove at least two lines of the rss feed. But maybe two lines are enough, because if you wanna know more, you can open the web page...
I test the app for the next few days, i'm not sure if it is stable right now. If everything works out, i'll might post it here.. but i'm not sure if i should do that, because the manipulated images are from HTC...

Maby you can integrate it with google reader official app?
where do we download it from
Haha, Nice idea! Waiting for a download link or something!
Give it to me already! :-D
Looks beautiful.
Yeah, arrows or something to look att next post would be great, altough i see your point in less space...so perhaps a slide-function? slide down for more posts/se more text from the feed.
If you want a Beta tester im willing!
send me a pm och mail me. (Ill promise not to share it if you dont want to )
very nice......can you provide one with the original sense clock theme?
Just what I need!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great idea, let me know if you need testers.
It should be like the default htc sense clock white, not black.
Also it will be perfect if it will be possible to connect him with your google reader account and to show the news from google reader
Where can I download?
I think that you should have an option of rotating weather and RSS. I would love to have weather too as my phone is my only source. SO it could be like a rotation between the two every 30 seconds or something. And then maybe you could integrate it with the News app that comes with 2.2 and up so there is an option of updating from google?
Maybe you can have it "themable" as someone^ said you should make it white
Can't wait!
This looks SO AWESOME!!!
I don't know about looks but have something like this on my Symbian home and find it very handy. The big clock is useful and easy to read (prefer it with the original HTC font) and the rotating feeds are always useful and informative.. now and then I pick a useful one and just click on it. Useful and pretty good.
To use the space better only adding well, another layer with a little weather symbol, but that's another story.
In any case, good work I'd say. Do refine it.
nice..but it will be great if background color can be changeable
djbrutale,
Wir warten um etwas vom dir zu probieren. Lass was mal uploaden.
come on man! stop teasing us with it and just post the widget please! i want it so bad!
I would really love to try it as well!

I want!
I put in my $10 yesterday, think I was the 24th or 25th backer
Really just want it for my Prime now
The widgets are really, really nice, though Tasker can already do the event based homescreen switching. I'd put more emphasis of the look, less on the automation
Contribution made! Hope it leads to something..

Don't know what you mean by "detect" but if you mean actually switch them, the "go home" feature has a page system that works with a select few launchers, alternatively you can simply use different launchers altogether and use the load app feature to load them at different times. The latter is probably better, since then you can truly have different launchers and not be stuck with a single homescreen per "profile" like Chameleon is

Ah, i understand, thank you.
Will there ever be a smart-phone version? This looks absolutely stunning and I wouldn't mind chipping in if it was coming for smartphone.
Also seems like you're making good progress. I opened this thread and went to kickstarter, saw 893 backers and 7980 something $, posted this comment, went back 896 backers and 8008$
WOW its already 8018$
Wow, I can't believe how much money this has got in just one day. I think it was at $50 or so when I checked earlier.
added my $10 -- this looks very interesting....can't wait!
Sorry, but we don't allow people to come here looking for donations up front, before producing any work.
This is clearly stated in the forum rules.
Thanks.

[THEME] Opulence - One-Click Downloadable Home-Screen

PrecieUX: Opulence is a one-click-applicable home screen decoration pack for BuzzLauncher users. Even if you have never used BuzzLauncher before, you can easily apply this beautiful home screen on your own device (whichever phone it may be) with a few clicks. If you do find it appealing, how-to-apply procedures are prepared for you at the bottom of this post.
Before moving on, please watch the teaser video I've prepared for you. I took time and care producing this video, so please watch in HD!
As the video read, certain privileges are available to only a number of special people. . . people like you. Opulence will bring the luxurious life-style that you deserve to your phone.
Ground up photoshopped matching pixel-to-pixel accuracy, tile-icons boast elegant details in even the phones with the highest resolution available in market today: Full HD (1920 x 1080). Designed and developed using Samsung's flagship Galaxy S4, Opulence is compatible with devices with other resolutions such as but not limited to HD (1280 x 720) or WVGA (800 x 480). Do not worry whether Opulence is going to look the same on your phone, because BuzzLauncher will automatically adjust layout and size of icons for your phone, whichever screen-size or resolution it may have.
Opulence is composed of 3 tabs: Main, Media and RSS. When you're in each of the three tabs, bottom of the tab you're in will glow to indicate the tab you're in. To switch to a certain tab, simply touch the tab you wish to switch to. Switching tab-to-tab is simply gorgeous: it feels like turning on a light-bulb by pressing on it.
The first tab of Opulence is "Main". Graceful widgets intuitively deliver to you information regarding date, time, your schedule, location and the weather. It has never been easier to see the important information so conveniently and so tastefully. Bottom third of the screen has short-cuts to the most necessary functions of your smartphone: downloading new applications, contacting your friends through social network services (folder containing short-cuts to different apps) and using your telephony services. The bottom dock is constant in all 3 tabs. Left tells you the percentage of battery you have left, and right tells you the time. Pressing the "Apps" icon will summon your phone's app-drawer that has all of your applications.
The second tab is your playground. It is worth a lot to live up to tight schedules, but sometimes you should enjoy good music or watch sensational movies. A big album-art of the album you're listening to decorates your second tab, so this tab will be automatically personalised to you individually according to the music you prefer. Without having to leave your home-screen, you can control your music player using the stylish control-icons already prepared for you. The Internet icon connects you to Google Chrome (but the short-cut can be directed to another application if you prefer another browser), and the Multimedia icon is a folder that contains apps most frequently used when listening to music or viewing your pictures and videos.
The third tab, as its name implies, has a gigantic RSS reader widget. Just pull out your phone from your pocket and unlock; the information you want to read will be updated and ready for you. (Press the bottom right corner of the RSS widget to add/remove RSS feeds). If the website you like does not support RSS, you can also choose to make bookmarks to your favorite websites and store them in the Bookmarks folder on the same screen.

Idea for futuristic all inclusive android launcher

I was looking through different android launcher apps, and I realised that none of them really were futuristic enough for what I was looking for haha
so I'm posting on here with some very basic designs and explanations in the hopes that someone who is good with app developing will pick up the project.
please note that these are very basic designs so I apologise if I don't explain it well enough, please feel free to ask questions.
I reference Next Launcher 3D in this quite a bit when explaining animations or graphics as that is the launcher that has come close enough to what I'm looking for, but not quite.
Basically this is a simplistic, minimalistic yet futuristic launcher
open onto a screen with 4 Buttons; apps, Phone, SMS and Widgets

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
(if that didnt work then the sharing URL is drive.google.com/file/d/0B8rTbu0kCCptMFNJUlNFR0o3Nkk/edit?usp=sharing I'm using google drive to store the pics, Ill post the link after the image from now on just in case
this will be very simplistic, but effects preferable as I'm going for the futuristic look
upon double tapping the big empty space on the right of the screen, a smaller screen will slide in from the right:
(drive.google.com/file/d/0B8rTbu0kCCptaTVMVHJiRVc4ckU/edit?usp=sharing)
this contains notification bubbles for social networks, a quick post option (without opening a new window) and quick access to media apps
swipe to the right to get rid of it and return to the first screen.
Upon clicking the apps icon, the other 3 icons shrink to the right (but remain clickable) and the apps 'shoot' out of the apps icon into the app drawer (like the folder shoot effect in next launcher 3d)
(drive.google.com/file/d/0B8rTbu0kCCptX0Q5YVNXUFFRT1E/edit?usp=sharing)
click the apps icon again to close it and the other icons return to normal size
upon clicking the phone icon the other icons disappear, the icon moves to the top of the screen, a back button appears next to the icon and an integrated dialler 'shoots' from the phone icon
(drive.google.com/file/d/0B8rTbu0kCCptUUJ6VDhRdXhzbUE/edit?usp=sharing)
I realise it's very different to have an integrated dialler but I like the idea of it and I'm surprised it hasnt been done much before
upon clicking the back icon, the dialer goes back into the phone icon and the other icons return
upon clicking the sms icon, the other icons disappear, the icon moves to the top of the screen, a back button appears next to the icon and an integrated sms inbox 'unfolds' from the sms icon (think window blinds)
(drive.google.com/file/d/0B8rTbu0kCCptTGxmV2o4emZBVTQ/edit?usp=sharing)
upon clicking the back button it folds up again
upon clicking on a sms thread it opens and allows you to message people
clicking back returns you to the main screen
upon clicking on the widget icon, the screen slides to the left, revealing a standard customisable widget grid (default 4X4) and you click the home button on your device to go back.
I Hope I've explained this well enough and I hope someone picks up the project as I would love to have this launcher
That sounds pretty cool. I'd test it out for sure.
Nice ideas
I hope some developer takes on thins, looks nice.
I think the icons shrinking to the left can be replaced with a slide menu like the one from the play store.
come on people
come on developers please haha this is a good idea, the end product could end up making money on the app store, im not even selling an idea here I just want it done haha anyone?
First of all, you should add ok Google now bar. Your ideas are really cool and something I would try out. Also, for users running cm, you should also make you re launcher compatible with cyanogenmods theme engine. That way people can have a futuristic look their own way . and use moonshine icon pack
Futuristic is kinda modern Space...which I prefer!
themer beta best

The concept looks ideal but it still needs some work. Any developers you have contacted regarding this project @JayBlayk?

[INDEX][APPs][Material Design]List of Apps with Material Design.

Hey, Welcome to the thread which contains some apps rha have material design.
First i want say that this thread doesn't contain any Google Apps(Gapps).
So Lets go
1.Action Launcher 3 Here
Sure, there’s the Google Now Launcher if you want the Googliest home screen possible, but Action Launcher gives your phone or tablet a Nexus-style look with more customization. There are plenty of icon pack choices and the QuickPage, which is a custom home screen you can get by swiping in from the right edge.

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
2.Cabinet Beta Here
It’s had a long go in beta, but Cabinet is a pretty stable and desirable file manager with a slick, material design look. It uses the floating button well, letting you create a new remote connection, folder, or file.
3.Swift keyboard Here
SwiftKey has gone all-in on with themes, with choices ranging from the minimalist to the ridiculous (Frozen, anyone?). On the material design, front, however, there are two excellent keyboard choices that match the new design of Google’s keyboard but add in more functionality. They’re $0.99 each, but well worth it.
4.Field Trip Here
Field Trip is a clever app for when you’re traveling or just out and about and want to discover more about what’s around you. It will ping you with details about restaurants, sites of historical snippets, or other places that you wouldn’t normally pick up through just a Google search or perusal of Yelp.
5.WEATHER TIMELINE Here
It’s too rare to find a great “Android only” app that shows off the best of the platform. Weather Timeline has done this with its weather application. It also has excellent Android Wear implementation, pushing out weather alerts and putting the forecast on your watch. It’s only $0.99, so grab it and support great development efforts like this.
6.NUMIX CALCULATOR Here
The stock Android calculator does the job, and it too has a new material theme if you’re running Lollipop. But if you want something that looks great and has a few more features then go with Numix Calculator Pro. It saves your calculation’s history and swings in with additional capabilities when you swipe through the keyboard.
[/SIZE]
7.Source News Reader Here
Feedly is still undergoing a material redesign, so while you’re waiting, or if you just want to explore another alternative, check out Source News Reader.
8.LUMIFIC-Pic Gallery Here
Lumific is a beautiful photo gallery application for anyone that isn’t happy with the stock photo gallery app that comes preinstalled on their device. While there are many great features within Lumific, one notable feature is the ability to order photo prints from Lumific through Snapfish by HP. Now you can have any photo taken with your camera printed out to keep and to share. Lumific also takes similar photos and recreates them into GIF images automatically, and it now integrates with Dropbox to sync photos for backup.
9.PLAYER FM PODCAST Here
Podcasts are a great way to consume the content you love if you don’t have the ability to read it, and Player FM Podcast adds in loads of useful features for anyone looking to start listening to podcasts. To start, it’s cloud-based, which means you can listen to it across devices. It’s also equipped for offline playback so you can still listen to stuff even without a data connection. You’ll also never have to worry about not being able to listen to an entire podcast all the way through, since play history will let you resume from where you left off.
10.NOVA LAUNCGER BETA Here
Nova Launcher Betas include new features and fixes before they are released to all users. However they also are not as well tested and may not be as reliable. Betas are best for people who don't mind when things temporarily break a little bit.
11.WHATSAPP (MD)(OFFICIAL)(BETA) Here
If you've been waiting for that special day when messaging app WhatsApp could be updated with the Material Design of Android 5.0, the good news is that day is here. You won't find this update in the Google Play Store yet, no matter how hard you try.
great! thanks
