[Q] TTS for web browser/VoiceOver equivalent for Android? - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
I've been looking for a way to have my Android phone read to me similar to iOS's VoiceOver feature. I'm running Android 2.3 but can't seem to find a way to accomplish this easily.
A couple quasi solutions I have found is to use a RSS reader, such as FeedSpeak or Web Talks that support TTS (Text to speech), however this only works for RSS feeds. Another method is to convert websites into PDF's using Dolphin Browser's "MyPDF" Add-on and use ezPDF's voice reading feature to read the PDF back.
Am I missing something that is inherent in the Android OS? Does anyone have a better app to accomplish this?
Thanks in advance for your help!

gTen from over at the PPCGeek's forum recommended
Voice Browser Lite: https://market.android.com/details?i...from_developer
This is an excellent example of what I'm looking for, I just wish it was a little more refined. Hopefully this will help someone.
Does anyone know of any similar apps?
Thank you

jquery drag actions on android browser

I'm trying to figure out how the android browser handles click and drag actions with jquery.
Here is an example of what I'm talking about:
http://interface.eyecon.ro/demos/sort.html
The site works with a mouse but not with your finger in Android.
I want the same effect inside the android browser.
I searched these forums, but did not see anything. Can someone point me in the right direction?
That sortables demo does not work on my iPod touch either.
I wanted to see if something like this was possible in the android browser:
http://www.sitepen.com/blog/2008/07/10/touching-and-gesturing-on-the-iphone/
If you go to the demo site http://tinyurl.com/sp-iphone in your desktop browser it doesn't work but on the iPhone/iPod touch it does. This is because the iPhone Safari browser can handle the special touchstart, touchmove, touchend JavaScript events. The Android browser doesn't handle these.
I wonder if it would be possible to modify the Android browser to handle them?
Yah I've been browsing a couple jquery groups and it looks like they got this about working on the iPhone. I found how to move items using click-to-click but that is not what I'm going for.
I'll post here again if I get a response to anything.
Ok sounds good

Android PDF Print Driver

Hello,
My phone is the HTC EVO Slide. My question is relating to whether or not there is an application that would give the phone the ability to save or convert word, text, excel documents into PDF documents. Something similar to the ability of the Cute PDF driver on the Microsoft Windows operating system? I have Quick Office Pro installed on my phone and it cannot do this. I am willing to pay for this functionality. Any input would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Peter
I'm also very interested in it.
Somebody who can help us?
+ 1on this.
I really need something like this, but Primo PDF kind of product as I often need to send a doc from my google docs to someone, if and PDF is the best way.

there's an app on adroid market called pdf converter. It takes documents in almost any format and converts it on a server in the internet to a PDF file. hope this helps.

[Q] Possibly switching from Android, have some OS/app questions

I really love my Android phone, but I also love the WP7 interface and I think it has great potential, especially after Mango has been released.
Since I am on Verizon, I am possibly looking to get the HTC Trophy, but I wanted to first ask some questions I hope you all can answer. I apologize in advance if some of these are stupid questions, but any help you all can provide would be greatly appreciated.
1) Is there a good Remote Desktop app for WP7 that uses native Remote Desktop functionality? i.e., I don't want to have to install a VNC-type server on my machine for it to connect to. I also want to be able to set the machine resolution, much like the Windows-desktop based RD application
2) Microsoft Exchange app - the native Android mail app sucks, so I purchased Touchdown for Exchange, which is a MUCH better MS Exchange client. Does WP7 have something similar? Or, is their native Exchange mail app good? (I want to be able to view HTML emails, and if possible, send HTML emails)
3) Flash- I know Flash is currently not supported. From what I read, Mango was supposed to bring Flash to the platform, but I see that it isn't the case. Will Flash ever be supported? Or, is there a way to hack the phone so that we could add support for Flash?
4) Sideloading apps - Android allows to sideload apps without unlocking/rooting the phone. Can this be done with WP7, or do we have to unlock/jailbreak the phone first? I read somewhere that up to 10 apps can be sideloaded... any info on this would be great.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
1) There is only 1 at the moment and it's called Remote Desktop and it's a little pricey at $5.99. There's only a few reviews on it so far but people seem to like it.
2) The default email client is excellent and can view html emails with no problems at all. There isn't any rich text editing when composing an email.
3) We can only guess but I don't see it happening. I don't know of any browser that supports flash and hacking IE9 to support it is extremely unlikely. Perhaps one day it will happen but don't expect it any time soon.
4) You have to dev unlock the phone to sideload apps. There are free methods or the official method by paying Microsoft $99 for a dev account.

[Q] PDF reading on Wp7

Why isn't any good pdf reader out there for windows phone 7 devices.
There are very less no of apps regarding pdf reading.
What all apps for pdf did you find other than the adobe?
I think there are two more apps.........
1. PDF viewer(DotNetNuzzi)
2. Amazing free pocket.
But both are pretty dumb apss.
Is developing pdf viewer on wp7 that much hard.
Developing a PDF reader on *anything* is hard. It's a complicated format. Developing one on the phone is harder still, because you need to write it in .NET unless you get special permission from Microsoft. The official Adobe Reader app uses a native component (accessed via COM, much like many homebrew apps) to do the actual PDF rendering.
Is there some specific feature you need that the current PDF reader apps don't offer? I don't enjoy reading PDFs (on my phone or anywhere else) but I've found the Adobe Reader app to be sufficient for use on the phone.

Ok, but Adobe Reader on WP7 doesn't have important features like: searching, "go to page" and it's little slow!

how about sending them a feedback or just a simple review telling them.
I feel the most important feature the PDF reader lacks is its inability to open "password protected files"
All card statements and mobile phone bills come with password via email and its really handy to open it in mobile instead of PC or lappy.

[Q] Newbie: simplest way to make Phone apps Android TV compatible

Hi - I'm a newbie and frankly knows next to nothing about Android app development. There are lots of great apps out there that would be great to use on the big screen via Android TV (the only device out there now is the Nexus Player), but unusable on Nexus Player because they requires either gesture or mouse. This leads me to think that there must be a relatively easy way to take the APK and update the code so that I can use the d-pad remote for the Nexus Player.
Can anyone point me the way?
Thanks!
Frank
