I was think to buy it and when I was 1 core....daaamn no

Dont worry about the single core. Its still super fast. Its basically the Galaxy SII with a less powerful CPU and older version of android. I mean its a complete monster though. Its a great phone but 4.5" is just a bit too big. I think 4" is perfect size for me unless they can start getting rid of capacitive buttons then a bigger screen would be nice. Its amazing how thin and light it is with it being so huge.

perfect screen size

What is your prefered screen size?
In my opinion 3.8 is perfect. I like 3.7 but the problem is that it is not as wide as the 3.5 screens on the garminphone, iphone, huwai ascend, and that's the only thing I don't like about 3.7 screens and the new motorolla cliq too its ridiculously long and thin, I did a side to side comparisom and it is less wider than the 3.7 inch screen on my G2 but a little bit longer. It was a dissappointment the cliq 2 of course why would they make the screen less wide that makes no sense to me anybody else feels like this about 3.7 screens?
The 3.8 on the mytouch 4G is wider than the 3.5 screens we know on the phones I mention and I like that. Btw I think they could've squeezed a 3.8 on the G2 at the size it is, that's one of the things I love about the G2, the size overall is nice.
3.7". I don't really feel like the 3.5" on my iPhone is any wider than the 3.7", but I never measured. I know 3.7" phones themselves are usually the same width as the iPhone.
something between 3.7 minimum to 4.3 max
3.7" is the best size for me (at least from what I tried, it depends on the size of your hand, I don't realy own a touchscreen device currently, tried friends').
The width of the screen is affected by the ratio, there are wide screens, 4:3 screens etc.
Depends on resolution.
4.5" , but 4.3" is minimum , anything else is unmanly and is a toy phone
3.7" is good -- i find much bigger than that ends up being too big for a phone..
4 inches is definitely the minimum; I have tried an iphone but it just isn't the same.
Captivate 2.2.1 Paragon
4-7inch anything under 4inch is unmanly and just a joke

I measured them, the iphone and huwai ascend, screen is 1.94 inch wide, the 3.7 on the G2 is 1.90 wide, also I notice the cliq 2 screen is longer and less wide than the G2 screen being the same size. I prefer wider screen than longer, don't get me wrong I'm good with the 3.7 inch its not that big of a deal
i think the sgs has the right dimensions of a display
I love the 4. 3 maybe bigger.

I think I would like a 5 inch screen. A little big but, I think it would be good for me.
The EVO you wish you had
I've tried a few, and I think 4 is the best for me. Anything too much bigger starts to get clunky.
Minimum 4. Max 4.5. Depends on the overall design. Extremely thin bezel? Fine, give me 4.5

4.3" in minimum, would love to see some new HTC phones with bigger screen, perhaps in the 5" area.
4" is perfect for me, but i have smallish hands. I'm happy with the 3.7" i currently have though.
What worries me is that all the top end phones are coming out with 4.3" screens now, meaning i'll have no choice but to go bigger in future
Do you guys with bigger screens have any trouble with them fitting in your trouser pockets? Is it comfortable?
I like the 4" screens on the Captivate and stuff, but even a GOOD 3.5" like on the iPhone 4 is a great screen, and likewise, the 4.3" and 4.5" screen are tempting. I do think once you go above 4" it's harder to keep a phone from being a big ugly brick (think Droid X) but I'm looking forward to seeing what Samsung does with the 4.5" Super AMOLED Plus. That promises to be a nice screen - none of the PenTile checker boarding, really thin, Samsung's great at design. Too bad they're so bad at the updates thing...

trust me I doubt most phones would come out 4.3, it seems 3.7-4" its getting to be the rule now most phones launching are withing that range I doubt the new sidekick will be anything bigger than 3.7 lol some sidekick feens are actually I would say dreaming about the sidekick having a 4.3" screen imagine a screen that big flipping how big the phone gonna be lol. And the samsung 4G as we already know is 4". I also think 4 is nice but they have to do it like they did it with the motorolla defy waterproof the phone is incredibly small much smaller than the G2 with a nice 3.7 screen. I think they could've squeezed in a 3.8 in the G2 and could've made it smaller. I mean just look at the garminphone it is ridiculously and unnecesarily huge for a 3.5 screen. Just the front is about 55% screen and 45% buttons.

We had to wait and see, if not better to ordered it directly expansys.com or over the net. dualcore and 4.5 inch its a MUST.

That device is going to be pretty big.
EDIT: Also a 4.5" qHD screen? I wonder how this will compare to a 4.3" WVGA screen in surface area. I haven't done the calculations on this one but I did between 4.3" qHD and WVGA screens and a 4.3" WVGA screen has a noticeably larger surface area than a 4.3" qHD screen.
General question...does 0.2" actually make a difference???
The question is why not 687.3" screen? At some point it becomes ridiculous always increase screen size.
There's also the question of WHEN it's coming. Something better is always in the pipeline, but how long are you willing to wait for said advances? I was willing to wait for dual-core as it's a big jump in capabilities. 0.2" is not really (I would like the 1GB of RAM but I do need a phone now and can't wait too much more).

I'd say that getting this generation of phone is good. SO the Sensation and GSII will last you for quite a long time. But if you really want, next year, the EPIC resolutions will be integrated into phones + AMOLED - that sort of thing.
Hit a brick wall in terms of size, any bigger than 4.5" and it's becoming a tablet (not complaining, I'd certainly use a 5" phone as my everyday device) but for many, 4.3" is too big, let alone bigger.
The Holisay looks like a beast. 3D too? Amazing.
Rumor is a September release. If it's on AT&T IMO it won't show up until after the new iPhone does. Don't want to wreck the hype.

I had my Captivate next to the Galaxy 2 in an ATT Store, is the screen identical?

It was hard to tell the difference, but it could have been subtle.
I am mostly asking as I had some movies on my phone I watched, but some of them were very thin, so I was wondering if the Galaxy II was as wide, but longer. This way, it wouldn't be as thin!
No, the screen on the ATT SGS II is a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED Plus screen while the Captivate is a 4.0 Super AMOLED screen. They both do have the same resolution (800x480) but that is really it.
The + means no more pentile matrix
That's curious, why hasn't Samsung updated the Resolution, or gone with a widescreen display? Are they common on phones? Must make for an unusual shape.
The "resolution" may state that it is the same but getting rid of the pentile matrix means there are 30 percent more subpixels on the screen resulting in sharper text, and better everything really
Except the movie will still have the same amount of black bars around it.
It is a bit lame that the resolution wasn't bumped up, while 800x480 is great, it's starting to show it's age.
I have a cappy for fun and an Infuse for work. While the Infuse did not get the SGS2 name it is basically the same thing. It has the larger screen with the AMOLED"+". I agree with the above statement that the "+" just makes everything a little better. I find reading web pages or looking at Maps easier on the Infuse. And it totally blows away any iFone screen! There is not much much difference in video though.

I have both the cappy and the att sgs2 and the SGS2 does have a bit better looking screen for sure. And as far as the difference between the SGS2 and the infuse is the speed with the SGS2 using dual core cpu while the infuse is single core CPU. My cappy does STILL work really well and running CM7 never seemed slow or laggy. I am now running CM7 on my SGS2 and after a few days of using it then picking up my cappy I can feel the difference in speed easily. I STILL LOVE MY CAPPY as it was my first Android device and it kicked ass. It is THE ONLY reason I would of upgraded to any other phone as I did its newer big brother. I feel bad when I don't use my first love lol.

Galaxy S3 got leaked -- crap, what to do

So the Gal S 3 jsut got leaked:
Quad core Exynos
12mp rear
2mp front
1280x720 Super AMOLED
16gb expandable to 32
This is gonna be a touch one. 4.7in screen on the S3 is gonna be big, so I'm totally on the fence now.
http://www.techshout.com/mobile-phones/2012/25/samsung-galaxy-s-3-gets-benchmarked/
I was thinking about holding out for the S3 but I think 4.7 is just too big for my tastes (and hands). The 4:3 of the One S seems about perfect for my hands. Bought one today figuring I can return it in the 15 days if the S3 turns out to be killer but I think the size alone has me sticking with the One S.

I'm pretty sure the Exynos 4212 is a dual-core chip (that's what google says, at any rate)

Hmmm youre onto something here. The 4212 is indeed a dual core, so something's up with the reports. But I cant imagine a dual core 1.4ghz destroying a 1.5ghz dual core S4 chip, atleast not by 2x. But I just ran Antutu and got about 7500. S3 is at 14000
Also haven't the previous GSIII leaks been of quad core chips?
Edit: also the 4212 is clocked at 1.5 ghz, why is this reporting it at 1.4?

Seems like AnTuTu didn't know what to label it as so they called it a 4212.
Built quality on One S is similar to Nexus One and its the best on the market....S3 will be plastic probably, 12m camera means ****, display is still pentile (probably)
I took care of my dilemma by unlocking, rooting, and ROMing my One S.
I cant be convincing myself that 4.7 inches is acceptable size for me. It just isn't. And to be honest, there's only so much you can do with a phone's speed before you're at the mercy of your data connection. I can't honestly see what I'd get out of the SGS3 that I wouldn't on the One S. Sure, a better screen maybe, but even then, there's only so many pixels you can fit before it doesn't matter.

My motto is unless its a RUU, leaks are rumors! Lol i have saw the S3 Having 12- MP with 2Mp front, 8M with 1.3 front and the updated eynos or whatever. What will be funny is when they release it and its dual core because LTE can't handle quad core. Or when it comes out with the same specs as the one S.
ERASED
S3 will kick ass of 95% of the phones out there when released but bottom line will be how practical it will be to use on a daily basis, size and overlay wise.
S2 was the same...spec wise it was awesome but the size let it down for me, thin yes but not comfortable to hold and touch wiz overlay was rubbish compared to sense.....s3 will be the same.
If you want to get caught up in the 'specs race' then go for it but you will no doubt end up in the same boat as the one x with either poor battery and the device will not last a day or once the novilty is over realise that 4.7 inch screen is just too big for 90% of people to use.
Just my opinion.
The One X was too big just as the Samsung S3 will be too big. Looking at the One X section it didn't bother many people so I guess its going to do very well.
At the end of the day the One S is just the right size for me, I experience no lag and I don't really know when I'm going to use all the power as is?
Super Super Battery
I played with it today to test it out (im with sprint so i have to resort to the beautiful Evo LTE, damn) and wow!. Camera is awesome and best of all it had 27% battery after 1d 16h! WTF! wow. Cant wait to get mine where I can turn off the 4g! Cant wait for root!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just remember though, no community = no good ROMs. We've got 3-5 ROMs so far, but no AOSPish projects except CM9 in the works so far. The One X community is doing pretty well, although their community is in a tough position with the US AT&T version being a different architecture. Here's to hoping that a lot of dev on the Snapdragon-version One X will carry over to ours. I have a feeling it will....

The one S has been out for a while, but remember its not a flagship phone, so it may take a while for it to pick just as it has done other phones. It just came out in the USA so I would expect it to pick up soon. The desire had the same issue but they got dev. We also have 4 AOSP projects not 1.

Hehe. So, I am not the only one using that tactic.

Note 2 worth it? (AKA ****ing really, Samsung?)

My infuse has pissed me off enough and I'm looking to upgrade ASAP. I was looking at the note 2, but then I realized the ONLY upgrades are quad core and 2GB of RAM. Almost everything else is DOWNGRADED. Did samsung have pothead 12-year-olds on the dev team for this one?
Note: If you're going to read past this point you're not allowed to comment on how much I hate my Infuse. You live your life, I'll live mine, k?
I guess my question is should I just get the original note since it'll be much cheaper once they release the note 2, and I don't need a quad core?
I would get the note 2 if I wanted to but I don't want to kinda because when samsung does crap like this:
Development dies quickly
Nobody buys it
It ends up like the Infuse with the best xda devs quickly leaving for real devices designed by people that clearly understand what they're doing
When it loses xda dev support, it starts pissing me off like the infuse does
The original note would be a very good choice. It seems several people have used upgrades for the SGS3 and are very pleased. I have the international (quad core) SGS3 and will be keeping it for quite sometime.

What about the note 2 is a downgrade? Haven't really looked at the two in depth...but by a quick Google search it appears the only downgrade is that the note 2 has a 720x1280 resolution vs note 1 800x1280 resolution... but this is kinda expected when increasing screen size
Besides that most things seem the same or better...mainly the CPU and RAM
I don't see the note 2 being like the infuse because the note 1 was a huge success and still has a thriving dev community with some of the best devas
Plus being one of the first quad core, 2gb RAM, lte phones for Att...you can be sure it will attract the devs...only thing I can see making them leave the note 2 in the future would be for the sgs4...when ever that comes out
If you don't care about CPU and ram then don't get the note 2...stick with the note 1
But if your so concerned about dev community, why would you get a predecessor? Where the logic in that? Any of the big devs of the note will likely jump ship for the note 2...

.1mp is not much of a difference and likely won't be noticed (personally I rarely use the front cam anyways...)
I like 16:9 better then 16:10 anyways...it better for videos since that's what most HD videos are set to
PPI, again 20 isn't much...and likely won't be a noticeable difference
I personally would choose the note 2 over the note 1...but it really all comes down to personal preference
But still...you kinda make a big deal about dev life, so there is still no logic in choosing a predecessor over a new device if you want the best a good dev scene -as I said earlier...a lot of the note 1 devs will likely jump ship to the note 2
But again...all personal preference

I'll see what happens to the price of note #1 after #2 has been out for a day or two. If it goes to like $100 or $50 I'll definitely skip over the $300 PoS with $10 worth of hardware difference.
I'll be upgrading to the note II as well. I don't think you've done enough research if you are saying everything is a downgrade.. What exactly is a downgrade? In regards to decreased screen resolution, the subPPI went up and the screen is no longer RGBG. The US Note II's are also getting Exynos + LTE... Its also skinnier than the original note which isn't a bad thing.. IMO at least.
OK you've convinced me that it's a sidegrade.
You think it's worth $200 more (probably $100 on N1 and $300 on N2 for release) for 2 more cores (which still power many phones flawlessly) and another GB of RAM when Android has the best RAM management in the world?
side note: http://www.att.com/shop/wireless/devices/samsung/galaxy-note-carbon-blue.html note #1 has LTE too bud.
the rated ppi is deceptive. you are looking at pentil matrix rgbg vs real world resoloution. pentile matrix is a little weird they are geting away with high resoultion ratings by comparing it to crt tecnology. there are situations with different colors and contrasts that rgbg can create the number of lines it is rated as but it's not what is actually underlying. when you look at rgbg screens you may see a weird diagnal screen door effect depending on the colors on the screen since the pixels wind up being a little spaced out. high contrast stuff is not nearly as crisp, in effect text readability suffers. pick up an htc one x which has near iphone pixel density on an ips panel lcd and scale the text down till you can't read it, try the same on a gs3 which has a close enough screen size and the same rated resolution and you will see the ips is superior in this regard to the pentile matrix amoled. i would pick up an i777 gs2 before i got a gs3 for the size and i honestly think the i777 screen is clearer at the much lower resolution because the samoled+ is not pentile matris but thesamoled and samoled hd are.
also the older samsung devices are a 16:10 (i think this is what he tablets are, i dont feel like looking it up.) or 15:9 (most phones were this for a while) aspect ratio. this is good if the horizontal resolution is whole number scalable to hd video so there isn't a lot of estimations going on (1920x1200 would be ideal) because there is room for subtitles or the black bars just get bigger but it's often not. i'd look at horizontal res (in landscape) and compare it to common video resolutions over reading pixel count or density or vertical pixels or aspect ratio. and the .1 of an mp is nothing to worry about, i'd be more concerned about optics and firmware. i'm sure the pictures are actually improved.
about the dev community, right now the infuse is better than it's ever been. a lot of young talent is out there and guess what, they can't afford new phones, so yea dev drops off but it picks back up. if you want more dev buy a nexus or international device. the note 2 being exynos might see more dev as it may be more compatible with the international versions. i wouldn't worry about core count, watch the market, if the exynos 5 gets into a phone it's a dual core that runs with the ideal performance of the quad core, but the real world performance is much better since parallel processing isn't directly scalable. the snapdragon s4 chip (dual core) in the s3 and one x is also a beast. i'd be getting the most furture proof device. specs are almost meaningless since they don't relate to performance as directly as we would like them to.
in the end it's up to you, both great devices, the n2 will be more powerful but if the cost is a concern the n1 is still very good by any standards.
Yey finally an opinion I trust (ok I trust the rest of you but dani is an xda deity)
