So Ive noticed there are a lot of threads on screen bleed, after I did some research and there are a lot of threads regarding pc monitors that are ips with the same issue. They call it IPS glow, and it seems very common. Granted some will be better than others. Thats why when you tilt the phone that bleed you see shifts so its not backlight bleed. Thoughts?

Can't really comment on what you're saying here I have no experience or foresight, I can however tell you my wife has an iPhone 4 with LG IPS and has 0 backlight bleed.
Well im sure the smaller the screen is the better it gets. But google ips glow and youll see it. Ive seen ipads with the same thing.
It is both.
Off angle you will see the white glimmer in the blacks. On older IPS screens the effect is purple. The G2x IPS screen is not the old type, its actually a great IPS screen, not a cost cut version.
Bleed is what is seen on the corners. Its a creep of light coming around, and its visible straight on viewing, and not really off angle so much. Another post seems to indicated that cheep dust protection foam around the screen is creating bleed....which depending on the torquing of the the screws could cause all the variations of the issue.
The G2x has both, the level of bleed is in question, and if its a big deal unless you are specifically looking for it....but it definitely has bleed, and all IPS screens have off angle black glow.

Well we know the DHD has LCD, but AT&T site says the inspire has SLCD... I compared mine to two MT4G, one has LCD, the other SLCD... and apparently my inspire behaves (saturation/view-angle) somewhat in between, leaning towards the LCD.
So how about yours? you probably get a LCD if a sharp view angel gives you wash out colors.
So AT&T is giving out misleading info then..
ripped a link about the MT4G good vs bad screen: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=863679
not really sure how accurate my judgement is.....but i can look at mine almost 180 degrees, basically until i cant see the screen anymore, and colors still look great. Doesn't seem to be washed out for me, but again, i have never compared a SLCD to an LCD.
Just as a side note....I have been MORE than impressed with this screen, even coming from a s-amoled on the Captivate. I was really thinking i was going to miss the "pop" from the captivate screen, but the colors on the Inspire have been more than pleasing to my eye. Although, the black levels on the LCD suck compared to the OLED....

Leaning towards SLCD over here as well.
Searching in the forum and saw someone saying the DHD in India are SLCD. Does anyone know how to determine it on the software side?

I have an HD2, which has a common LCD...with the washed out view angles and all...and my Inspire doesn't exhibit the angle washout as my HD2. The colors are a bit more intense also.
I'm with everyone else here. I can look at mine in a complete 180 degree arc and lose very little color and detail from the most extreme angles.

ditto, i'm leaning toward SLCD
Colors are not washed out practically at all, viewing from any angle up until I can no longer see the screen. I'm wagering SLCD.
I came from Vibrant, so maybe I expected a bit too much for the inspire then..
but I compared mine to a Desire Z's SLCD and its really different.
The colors when viewing at 45 degree on the 1-2 O'clock position of the phone is extremely washed out and showed a green tint.

Might just be your device, brother. I came from a Captivate (SAMOLED) and it's WP7 cousin, the Focus, and I see little to no difference in off angle viewing from either of those devices. The colors stay true, but obviously the luminance does decrease the further you move from 0 degrees.
Also, I'm using a crappy, AT&T store, anti-glare screen protector till my nice ones show up tomorrow. That further degrades the quality of the screen, so the true nature of the screen is better than I've even been describing it.
. This is surely sad.. did anyone try the Android emulator method (dmseg) in the my4g link and see what type of panel it is?

I looked at it, but this handset isn't a mytouch4g. That command shows a number designation that we don't have a key to for this device. They may very well be the same, but we don't know for sure. My number would designate that I had the "good screen" but I have yet to see any reply that would cause me to think that there were any bad screens, other than you. If you are unhappy with your device, take it back and see if the sales rep wouldn't mind you running the hardware check for the screen. However, if its as noticable as you say, you should be able to tell without it.
I tested my inspire against the atrix im currently using, and the qHD screen has significantly more color washout and bleed than the inspires panel. A 45 degree angle of the atrix tints everything a yellowish haze.
mine has a type 1 panel.. so I guess I'm filing a return.
Ok...so, several sites, all have different info. PC Mag, whom I trust dearly, say it's on LCD... Most other say its SLCD.. So..I have to call HTC tonight after work anyways... I'll ask them, and if I can get them to verify which one, I'll report back..
Hey guys, I have a question about our skyrockets displays. When I look straight at mine, it's kid yellow. But when I slightly tilt it at any angle it becomes whiter bluer. It's like going from warm colors straight to cold.
Is this normal on a super amoled plus? Never had one before and I'm coming from the ips display on an iPhone.
It doesn't bother me, but I'm just curious.
Mine does the same thing. At least in this app. I don't recall if I have ever looked at this phone or an iPhone before from that acute angle. I try to notice.

its the way the phone is. It doesn't have a true white display due to Amoled screen. Do a search and you will know more of other people complain about this.
Huh. I hadn't noticed this until just now. It's not intolerable but yes, seems to be true.
However, no one does true black like Samsung, and the positive aspects of the screen far outweigh this as well as the lines you see when not in full bright mode (I usually keep mine on full brightness anyways).
Got a HD Maxx last week, and things were great the first few days, but lately I've noticed a pretty annoying yellow tint on anything that's supposed to be white (webpages, email, etc.). Should I expect this to go away over time, or is it something that a replacement unit wouldn't suffer from?
I tried a color adjuster app from the market, and while that helped, it slowed down the phone quite a bit.
Are any of you having similar issues?
It's called PenTile screen technology that makes it appear yellow sometimes.
I get the same thing and have heard this remark/complaint many many times. Assuming your talking about the same thing.

Yup, pretty sure what you are mentioning we all see.. Whites definitely don't look white.
The Razr series uses a Super AMOLED display, which means there is no back-light, each pixel "ligths up" as needed. In general, AMOLED displays are not considered to have a white as good as the traditional LCD displays with back-lighting. On the other hand, black is really good, and it does not look as "dark grey" (especially at high brigthness setting) as most LCD screens do. That is because in a AMOLED display a black pixel is completely off, is not just blocking the back-light as in a traditional LCD.
Received my pixel earlier this week.
Immediately after opening the box I was quite disappointed that the display noticeably shifts towards a blue hue even at the slightest change in angle other than straight on.
I have looked at a bunch of phones on display in stores since, some of which are showing similar symptoms to varying degree.
I understand that AMOLED displays are more susceptible to color shifts at different viewing angle but this seems very extreme.
Anybody else notice the same or bothered by it?
I notice it a little bit, but it doesn't bother me until at extreme angles. I figured it was just a characteristic of AMOLED displays, I see the same shift on my watch.

I have noticed the same on my device, 1/3 of the display at the bottom has a blue tint on light screens while holding it regularly, facing me. If I tilt the phone forward (not facing the eyes), it is better, but a very small angle change and that third of the screen is blue again. I have compared my device to another one and on the other device, it happens a lot less. Instead of just a third of the display it's the whole display that changes slightly color but in positions you wouldn't normally hold your phone. I am considering returning the device...
What have you done yourself? Do you think it is an issue?
Didn't notice until this post. That's probably because I had the same issue on the Nexus 6P. In fact, it ought to be better than this when Google are charging extortionate prices for this!

After 4 days of back and forth with play support they have finally agreed to exchange. I looked at a lot of other phones in stores and mine certainly seemed to be worse than most of them. Worth a try. Luck of AMOLED draw I guess.
AMOLED actually has the best viewing angles of ANY display, really. My 4K LG TV's look incredible from any way I look at them.
Pentile AMOLED as seen in today's phone screens is different and the cause of this issue. The color shift occurs because of the inconsistency in sub-pixel layout... RGBGR rather that straight RGB.

I have received a replacement phone and the new device hasn't got the problem as much , I guess the first device was slightly imperfect and I was noticing the amoled blue tint more coming from a LCD display before on my previous phone.
The viewing angles and hue shift on my lg v10 ips screen is worse..
It's the luck of the draw most manufacturers source hardware from different vendors resulting in slightly different variations. Ie the different ram used in pixels, making some slightly faster than others.
I am wondering how are your units in regards to famous AMOLED pink shift?
Mine seems to be a bit more pink on the side making whites and darks looking uneven.
Looked at display units around shops and all units had it to some degree, also YouTube videos shows a pinkish screen nature.
How is your one?
To me pink shift implies that it turns pink when tilting the phone or viewing off angles. I don't have any problems with that however the regular OLED color uniformity is an issue on my device. Nearly ever OLED phone I've had has had some issue with this and I think some people are just more sensitive to it than others explaining why it's a non issue for most people and a huge issue for others. My Pixel 2 has a pink tink at the top 20% of the display which is minor and think most would either not notice or find acceptable. It bothers me a bit but it could be worse and I'm not sure I want to go through the trouble of RMAing the device until I get something better (OG Pixel took 3 tries and then I gave up and accepted the problem, but then my 3rd OG bricked itself and they sent me a 4th with a nearly perfect display yay!). Pink on the side or diagonally across the display is the worst I think as it's really noticeable when reading text on a white or grey background. At the top is the best case scenario for me as it's only really annoying when reading content in landscape orientation.
I spoke with a Google Tech at length today regarding the different color tints on our devices (mine is blue) and he assured me that the tinting was intended with the new screens. On a side note I notice while out in the sun when it's hard to see my screen, if I tilt slightly my device, the Blue tint actually helps me to see my screen better. Not sure if that was intended or not.....
