These couple of days, my battery drain has been abnormal. I just got a tablet and have not been paying much attention to my nexus S, but strangely enough, the nexus S battery drain seems to be more now than I am using it less.
I have been pouring over my logcat for the whole of last night and this morning but I cannot seem to make head or tails with it.
Could any experts have a look at it and see where the problem lies, I don't know if I have caught myself one of those malwares or some app is misbehaving?
Much appreciated.
Could some please help me have a look at this because its driving me insane, trying to figure out the misbehaving apps.
Would really appreciate any help at all.
You seem to be using a lot of activities/Intents without stopping any of them.
Maybe try downloading an advanced task killer from the market and make sure to stop several tasks as even leaving ur phone idle with them running drains the battery.
So yeah, try getting one of those and stopping the tasks running at times.
I don't recommend atk it will season the same if not more if you have run away activities and keep killing them you need to get to the root of the issue. What does settings say about your battery use?
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
On the settings > phone > battery, it looks normal. Thats why I went into logcat. However over night I am losing about 30% whereas I know with my current settings, i would only lose 2-3% maximum.
Really no one? I got a Google plus invite for the person who is willing to help

I really do not know what to say. Initially, the battery was fine. Then I am not sure what happened, the battery life became adnormal. Pouring through the logcat file, I was not able to find anything wrong. I tend went to try another rom Miui to be specific. Found that that was not my cup of tea. I could not install swype to save my life. I reverted back to my backed up ROM, which is really a rooted stock build number GRJ22 and now the battery life has gone back to what is was before but now its giving me too much battery life??!!
My usage is very light at best, because I am still playing around a lot with the new tablet that I got.
Sorry bro dropped the rom and was busy I got time today but did you get rid of the issue?

do a fresh wipe and freeze bloatware, you will see a difference, i get 17hrs plus on my phone.
id say my battery is tough!
can last me all day and maybe enough for the next.
moderate use - lots of texting, phone calls, internet use, and some apps.

What rom?
What kernel?
How long of a life do you get?
Post your battery usage statistics. Settings-About Phone-Battery Use will tell you what's been using it since last charge, the app Spare Parts will tell you overall usage.

Thanks for all the feedback sarcasim and all. I've never had a battery issue before I installed the recent apk of the new android market. That is my only guess.
Is there a way to revert back and wait for the official update from the market? (I'm still new to android so I'm feeling my way around)
I am running stock rooted. Nothing special on this end.

I pulled the SIM outta my G2x last week after my N1 came back from the dead.
With the G2x just sitting there without a SIM, being used occasionally for Riptide or Pinball HD and some web browsing/email while watching the tube I get a solid 3 days of battery life. I forget the stupid thing is even on until the alarm goes off every morning at 6:45.
Just don't use the phone part of your $500 phone and it will work great!
solution
it was the downloaded apk for the market. i did a complete reset so this should fix my issue.
I updated..must restore stock recovery and unroot...wow everything works great...lets talk about positive changes this update has done to our beloved g2x's.
Plugging in a USB cable the mass storage notification now pops up so fast it startles me.
Finally a positive thread.. My phones doing good as well.. No update will be bugless..
Everything I use works great. But there are some tiny things...... but its the best gingerbread build I've ever run on the g2x that's for sure.

On my 3rd G2x and it has been solid cept for a few things, such as GPS taking up to 20 minutes to lock, apps being unable to be moved to SD-card, whenever adding an app or widget to the homescreen would lock up the phone for a bit and would take up to 5 minutes to pull up a list, eating through a battery down to 40% after a full charge within 3 hours of light use.
Granted I fixed almost all those issues by rooting it and applying fixes I discovered through this wonderful forum. From the GPS fix (it locked within about 20sec-3minutes, much better than before) and the pre-opt-dex patch that was put up here which totally helped when adding apps/widgets to the homescreen(3-10 seconds compared to the 5 minutes). To some battery monitoring apps and charging techniques that helped me get the best out of my battery, which saw a full charge last about 9 hours before it squealed to be plugged back in.
Now with Gingerbread finally installed the GPS lock is virtually instant, the apps/widgets are likewise, almost instant. The battery seems to be a bit better. I took it off the charger at 4pm and its still at 25% at this time (12:49am).
As odd as it seems, I look back and am thankful for the buggy G2X. While I really liked my Nexus One, I never really delved into the community much. It was a solid phone and never had any problem, save for the complete lack of space to put apps on it. The buggy G2x lead me to this wonderful forum which was full of people with helpful opinions and great tips. Through the assistance of everyone here I learned a lot more about the Android system and about phones in general. Coming from a big PC background (I like building and fixing them) I liked that the Android OS provided me with similar work around that I did when working on PC's.
So, while the initial experience with the phone was nightmarish, in retrospect I really learned something, it's good to know that there is a group of people dedicated to making sure we get the best out of our phones and freeing us from the shackles of the providers limitations on the phones (rooting rocks!!)
A note to T-Mobile and LG. Why did you rush this phone?!?! I would have gladly waited till July for a fully functional phone. Without Gingerbread this is one of the most powerful phones in the universe, with Gingerbread it can now take advantage of that power. It's not like the competition was putting out anything much better than the MyTouch4g at that time, yes the Atrix, but that was a buggy nightmare too. So what if the Sensation beat this to market, this has stock android, an arguably better (supported at least) GPU, and is rootable. I would have waited. Look right now, for my criteriahttp://blogs.computerworld.com/16755/android_user_interface for a phone my options are currently the G2X, Nexus S and....can't really think of anything else... So seriously, coming from a Nexus One, the obvious choice is the G2X. I would think that a decent chunk of the people reading this would agree.
same here
I was one of the lucky ones to have a G2x without issues
stock phone not rooted, update went thru without problems and the phone feels snappier; I do miss the original LG camera app though
It's good to hear everyone is happy with their phone...now I won't have to read about everyone jumping ship to the sensation.

uhhhh try restarting the phone first and see if that fixes it... otherwise you are going to have to throw CWM on there and restore to stock and try doing the update again OR wait until there is a flashable bootloader posted up which is likely to be soon...

I tried Super 1 Click Root 1.9.5 but no go. Has anyone succeeded in getting root after updating to 2.3.3? Please share your root info.

Hi,
I would just like to know if there's a fix on my phone's long wait on bootup. It's taking about 3 minutes when I reboot (Using Quickboot App/or if I do a battery pull).
So I would just like to know is there a way to make it faster (except installing a custom ROM). I'm using the default ROM BTW, I never installed a custom one like CM7 or anything. I just rooted my phone using the Advanced Ace Hack Kit.
I heard installing a custom ROM helps with that but I'm trying to find a more simple way to fix this problem. Well it's not much of a 'problem' really, more like an annoyance.
So anyway, if someone could help me, I would highly appreciate it.
Thanks and have a nice day.
P.S. Here's a video of my phone booting up. Sorry for the poor video quality, my BlackBerry 9700 isn't much of a camcorder.

Sorry, I might have misunderstood, but your phone takes 3 minutes to reboot?? that not much at all. You can delete the bootanimation and that will make the start up faster...
Yup, as you can see from the video. So are you telling me that a 3-minute boit up is normal? That's not good LOL.
And yeah I tried with the default bootscreen and it wasn't much of a difference.

You're going to get a different answer from everyone who responds. I'm really happy with it for the most part, except that Google + and Chrome will randomly start running really aggressively in the background and killing my battery. It doesn't happen often, and a reboot seems to fix it, but it's definitely a problem I've noticed.

Yeah, at least get a birds' eye view of owners who has experience. Did your problem occur after 4.4.2 update? and is it on a custom rom? I don't wanna venture into another fiasco wherein I didn't do my research properly and get a lot of problems with the phone. At least getting some insights from other people will solidify my stand whether or not I will get it.

I've only noticed it since the 4.4.2 update, and I'm just running stock rooted. Maybe it's just me though because I haven't seen anyone else mention this specific issue. In any case, it doesn't detract from my enjoyment of the phone. It's still the best device I've ever owned.
I personally think 4.4.2 ruined the battery
Team Nexus 5 sucks
^really bad? Like S3 rooted battery problem bad?
Never owned an s3 but this battery life is bad because I rely on it in my business. I literally have to carry a backup phone since the nexus 5 's battery is non removable
Team Nexus 5 sucks
They'll release a fix soon though, this problem won't be overlooked by Google by the looks of it. A lot of people are complaining on Product forums at Google.
They will but it's taking so long. I've had problems with this phone since early November
Yeah, can I get away with it by NOT installing 4.4.2 and just install 4.4.1? since 4.4.2 has problems?
I think you'll find the majority of users are happy with their N5s. I find the phone to be a superb device. I'm stock unrooted 4.4.2 and have no issues whatsoever. Battery life is perfectly acceptable, I regularly go 2 days with 3½ hours SOT a charge, obviously more SOT if using the device more heavily in a shorter time frame.
If you read available threads you should be able to find all the info you want, and you'll see dicecuber is always complaining about how the N5 sucks and how much better Galaxy devices are. Most of us still can't figure out why he kept the N5.

Great phone, well worth the $350. No lag whatsoever and just buttery smooth. If u like pure android without laggy touch wiz or sense, then this is the phone for u. Camera is very decent, not the best but very acceptable. Battery life seems a little worse on 4.4.2 but still able to get a days use out of it. I have a screenshot of my n5 going 5 days and 6 hrs off the charger, with light usage of course.
Overall its a great phone. For that price, it can't be beat.

Half the fun of owning a phone these days is complaining about short battery life on xda. The other half is trying to fix it. You can install all sorts of utility apps, flash custom roms and kernels, tweak this and that, and then go on one of the dedicated threads and talk all about it. It becomes like a hobby.
That being said, I agree that there will be better battery life on the next KitKat. In the meantime, get an N5 and join in the fun! The phone is awesome.

That's a perfect fix if you don't use either of those apps. If you do, not so much. I'm looking into options to ditch Chrome, and after finding Dolphin to be really fast but crash-tastic as ever, Firefox seems to be working out pretty well. It might be a decent Chrome replacement.
As far as Google+, I'd rather not disable it because I use the Photos app quite a bit. If worse comes to worse, I might have to do it though.

Hi,
I bought my Nexus a week ago. During the first day the battery life seemed to be ok but since 2 oder 3 days it is really bad.
I didn´t really use the phone today (checked some emails and used for 2 or 3 really short calls) and the battery is emtpy after 11 hours...
Phone is rooted stock rom (CF) 4.4.2 since the first day. Any ideas?
Need much more information to get an idea what you do with your phone and how its setup. What features are running and stuff like that.
Rooted?
And do yourself a favor and get Gsam from play store, as well as gsam root companion after, if you're rooted. It has much more detailed information. The stock battery usage screen says very little to help find an issue.
Also, read through some of the following thread...start on last page and go back a bit. Tonnes of good info and tips there. A better place to discuss issues as well.

i see this too often, but not as much on xda, more here in real life.
OP...there are threads about the possible battery issues with the N5 and how they can be fixed all over the N5 forum. Perhaps you could've checked those out first before opening a thread. However, I do agree with the assessment that it takes a bit more investigating on your part to figure out why you're having battery drain issues.
The picture you posted is just a microcosm of what things could also be draining your battery. Do you have apps running in the background? Are your apps syncing too frequently? Are Google apps running or syncing too often?
What fixed my drain issues was going into my Accounts settings and ticking only the Google apps I used on a regular basis (Gmail, Calendar, and Contacts) and unticking the others.
Seems just another post a question, then don't bother to return to see responses....or at least not comment on any of it...kinda thread. Lol
You can lead a horse to water, but can't make it drink.
Hi, I didn't have any more issues so far. Right after creating this thread the issue disappeared without any changes except installing the battery app mentioned in the first reply (and maybe a reboot).
