Why would you download the OTA over 1x? You couldn't have waited until you were in a 3G area at least? I swear that some people lacking patience will be their downfall.
^Agreed with the poster above me. Sounds like you were rooted.

Only took 5 minutes on 4G.

I was rooted is that the problem?
It wouldn't let me download it in any other service. I had to use Lteonoff to put it in CDMA only mode just to get the update to pop up.

Umm... Yeah...
Can you boot in to recovery? I would just DL the rooted update from the dev section and flash that if you can get in to recovery. If you installed the new update you will lose root. You may have already fubar'd something. Try to reboot in to recovery by shutting the phone off and then hold volume down + pwr button to boot into Tue bootloader. Then select recovery from the options.
If you have a "P05IMG.zip" file at the root of your SD card it may not let you boot in to recovery.

I can boot into recovery that's hoe I pulled up my recovery from a month ago.
Which process is better? Unroot then download the update? Or use the leaked version which I am sure that is the same as the ota.

go stock, not with the NEW OTA, then root using the auto root method on android central... then install the pre-rooted OTA rom posted on here. FYI you cannot ever do an OTA while rooted.

All you have to do to stop the update from forcing a reboot and trying to install (in which case it will fail because you are rooted) is boot into recovery and wipe cache only. Then you can make sure all your stuff is backed up. Then d/l the prerooted update and flash with clockwork.

Just had a friend (not rooted TB) try the update but he phone kept going into 1x instead of 3G. So then he restarted the phone so he can regain the 3G connection to dwnload the update, but now phone says it cannot connect to server...any ideas what it could be..!? Ive been trying to convince him to root lol but wont budge....thanks in advance

Start a separate thread since his issue is different than the OP.
If he's not rooted tell him to call VZW or go in to the store. They can help him if he's not rooted.
If he roots then you can DL the update from the dev forum and install it.
If you need more help please start a new thread.

Went back to stock then downloaded the firmware update from my computer and flashed it on my phone. All went successful.

Oh man. I heard from the other members that it improves wifi performance and stuff ???
Nadeem, are you running stock unroot? If so, you must download the update that sais : gri40 from grh78c. Then, rename it to update.zip and put this file on your sd root.
Turn off your phone. Enter bootloader mode by pressing vol up + power button at the same time. Choose recovery. Press again vol up + power till a menu shows up. Select install update.zip. reboot afterwards

That's because of the baseband update.
Mikhail is wrong. 2.3.3 is perfectly fine
The OP said it has stock root and unlocked boot loader.
I've read something about the update doing some directory CRC check and only continues if the ROM hasn't been tampered with.
I think that installing SU and BusyBox is considered as tampered.
But, If the OP has its bootloader unlocked, maybe editing the upgrade script to remove the check and flashing it via CWM would work.

[Q] HTC/att update will not load after buddy 1 clik

I rooted my Inspire 4G using buddy's 1 click, and it worked fine. I went to update my phone and it said it had this update OTA_Ace_Cingular_US_1_84_502_11-1_80_502_3_P_release_186225z4g9g65j9b7kolus. I tried to install it and Rom Manager starts the process and the I end up with a black screen with a triangle with a ! in it and a little green android standing in front. I can get the phone to restart (power button or removing battery) but the phone still says that I have to install the update. Do I need it? Or how do I install it.

Rooted stock rom getting ota update?

I'm sorry for being a noob at this. But will I receive the update automatically to my phone without having to flash anything especially since I'm rooted? Or is there something else that I have to do in order to get the update?

Yes you will. Do yourself a favor and wait for a rooted version. I didnt and am regretting it.
Why exactly are you regretting it? Did you download from the ota and it mess up the phone? Cuz i've tried flashing the 2.3.5 update in the thread that says link straight from google, and I go to flash it and it aborts. I even uninstalled rom manager but it didn't work. Am I doing something wrong?

After using the google link to flash the update I can no longer access recovery. It gives me a box with arrow to an android guy then goes to an exclamation point, so now I cant even nandroid back. My tethering is now gone too. Anyone know of a fix so I can get past the exclamation point and do my nandroid?

Push in the power button and hold, then tap the vol + key. Your custom recovery is gone, that will get you into stock recovery.

You need to either delete or change permissions to 000 /system/install-recovery.sh. This file rewrites stock recovery upon reboot. If you get rid of it, your custom recovery will stick
Can't you just flash clockwork thru fastboot dude?

Yes. Flash thru fastboot. You also need to delete or disable /system/etc/install-recovery.sh so your recovery will stick even after reboot

T-Mo update

T-mo is pushing an update but when I try to install it the phone goes into recovery mode. I can't get the update done.
Any suggestions?
Are you rooted?
Clockwork or stock or the little arrow on your phone or the open box kinda thing?

I'm pretty sure you have to be unrooted & on stock if you want the update.
And installing that update could cost you S-OFF if its packing a bootloader.
You don't want the update if you are rooted! Anything tmo wants to send to your phone is old crappy software that you don't want on your phone. Why are people so worried about what the carrier's are trying to send through ota?

Royal Glacier Rom.
It's probably because you are on a froyo based rom. Try a gingerbread rom and the notification may go away.

I'm almost certain you need to be un-rooted for Tmo to be able to detect your system.
Try un-rooting the phone first and check for system update.

I meant to say that I am rooted and am getting the system update from t-mobile. I have been rooted for over a year until recently I did a factory reset and started getting the system update.
How do I disable or get rid of the annoying system update?

Flash a new ROM, or extract from cyanogenmod the fotakill apk. Put that in the system/apps then reboot.
Thanks for the FOTAKill info
I am a noob in this community and used to manually kill that process every time without realizing what it was for.
Thanks.

(SOLVED)[Q] how to tell if phone is already rooted.....

So I just picked up a skyrocket and I went to update OTA and it downloaded the update and when it went to restart to install the update the phone booted into clockwork. I wasnt able to find a thread for this specific device about it so I am asking here now. MOD if there is one please point me in the right direction. I did notice that there is no att bloatware on the device. Thanks.
Terminal editor, type su, press enter, see what happens.
Other clues: presence of Superuser app.
You have a custom recovery also which will need to be ODINed away.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
Yes, it does have superuser. As far as Terminal editor/ODINed i'll be honest I have no idea what you are talking about. First sammy device that I have had long enough to keep and want to keep. Use to HTC branded devices. But thank you I think it is rooted because of the superuser app.
Questions should be posted in Q&A. Moved.
Side note: I recommend you read a lot before you mess with it. Although this device seems to be very difficult to hardbrick misusing ODIN can lead to one.
Cheers
Go to market download root checker. Run it. If a super user prompt appears, that's a good sign.

Yes it does, superuser prompt comes up. I really would just rather have this back to completly stock running 2.3.6 until the 4.0 update rolls out. Not sure which is better. Rooted or unrooted????? Also am not sure if it has ODIN....I tried to boot into recovery to run ODIN3 and upgrade to 4.0.4 but when trying to power on into bootloader it just vibrates and will not boot until I release the volume up rocker. Other than curiosity the phone works and performs flawlessly. With superuser being installed and after installing titanium I am sure it is rooted. Still not sure what ODIN is (like I said used to the HTC branded phones and never cared about root) Thanks for all the information. Also I am not sure if I will be able to update to 4.0 when the OTA update rolls out, im not concerned about it being rooted or not (have not found a reason to have rooted yet). Anyone know if it can be updated OTA even though it has root?

You need stock recovery. You need to read the stickies for a few days before you do anything.

Or just keep your phone as is, and wait when ics officially drops, just wait a day and someone will have a flashable zip of it for cwm. Might as well learn the perks of being rooted now and learn your way around the phone
