The ROMs load fine and the home, back etc buttons on the side work fine but when I touch anywhere on the screen it either doesn’t register or starts jerking back and forth slightly. I NVFlashed and tried several different ROMs and stock and nothing helped.
Anyone ever have this problem? I did search the forum and found one post that resembles this problem, but that person just took it back. I think the touch screen may be toast. I’ll have to see if it’s still under warrantee, I got it in Feb.
Yes its still under warranty. Call vs.
mine crapped out on me too for a bit. Since my warranty was already voided, I opened it up and unplugged the capacitive touchscreen wires and plugged them back in. There musta been a short or something cus it works fine again and I have had no further problems w/ it.

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind if I can't get it replaced.

Firstly, my screen does not show visuals. I can still touch the screen and make things happen, but it is just a back-lighted black screen. I have answered calls on it and such. Basically I'm returning it and getting a new one.
Since I am getting a new one, I want to see if anyone ever heard of this problem and to see what the cause of it is, for prevention purposes.
I didn't get it wet (the white sticker in the back is still white.) Though I have flashed PROven ROM to it a couple months ago (it's a great ROM by the way), but could that have messed up my screen?
I also wanted to know since I can't see the screen, would I have to, for warranty purposes, (blindly) reflash to the Stock ROM?
Thanks in advance!
Yeah, you probably oughta return it to stock configuration (good luck on that!). If you're really lucky, that might even fix the problem. Have you done a hard reset yet? Might be worth a try, although it certainly sounds like a hardware problem.
Sounds like the flex cable has gone bad
Exactly same thing happened to me this Tuesday. Luckly I backed up info to memory card using PimBackupV2.8 with remote control software on my PC. With the remote contol tool, I could see everything as if on my phone and icons are clickable.
Hard reset did not fix the issue. I then flashed the shipped official ROM and stock SPL for warranty purpose. Will send the phone to them today for repair.
mine also like that..
from vodafone also..
the things that make me panics is the phone become hotter and hotter.

Summer is coming...
Sometimes they make updating phones too easy......
The back of my phone often gets hot I have to use the edges to hold it even though it was not a hot day and it is in my pocket.
blank screen
ya so my screen is blank white
but everything else works
i've heard something about this being a faulty "flex cable"
how can i fix this?
thanks so much for your help
how do i fix this???
did you eventually find out how to fix this/???
u ever end up fixing that? how?
thankss
Mine was still in warranty so I rang Vodafone. They sent me a special delivery envelop the following day. I sent it back to them. The following day I got a text message from them saying they got it and was working on it to fix the fault. The next day received another message saying the device was on the way back to me and I should receive it the following day.
Actually they sent me back a replacement
So.. basically.. is this a faulty flex thing?
I had the same problem for the last week until today i was about to buy another one since i dont have any warranty for this one.. I searched google and saw somebody say that just putting a business card between the keyboard and the lcd and then slide it and it works so far
hope it helps everybody
Ack! my Fuze, which I got off eBay a few months back, just went black too.
I'm not exactly sure whether it's the LCD or the flex cable, but the fact that the D-pad backlight also has become intermittent makes me think it's the cable.
So has anyone attempted the flex cable repair themselves? I see you can buy the cable for around $40 and the LCD for around $80 from Hong Kong.
Maybe this is a sign I should just get an Android device.

Did you end up fixing it? I have the same problem.
same thing happened to me Twice.... in my sleep overnight. I LOOOOOOOOVe my raphael but man this was the last straw
This maybe of some help for those of you with blank screens. I bought a Touch Pro on ebay that had a very dark screen, occasionally you could just make out some icons being displayed. Using Mymobiler showed that the basic system was working, as was the touchscreen. Other symptoms were that the camera would not work and the keypad lighting was intermittent. Sometimes on connection to Mymobiler a dialog box would come up saying there was an error with Microp?!?
Despite cleaning all internal connections and ensuring they were correctly and securely made the problem remained. I then noticed that the small camera used for video calls (in a socket on the main flex cable) looked very dirty and corroded. I removed the camera module and, using a fibreglass brush, cleaned the contacts on both the socket and the camera module. These were very badly corroded with verdigris.
On putting everything back together I was most surprised to find the screen was now working, as was the main camera. Unfortunately the ROM that is loaded doesn't seem to have any facility for checking the front video camera. There are still problems with sound - both the loudspeaker and the headphones seem to be dead and I have not had the opportunity to test GPS, Wifi, bluetooth, buttons, etc, however I will keep working on it.
Hope this is of help to someone.
I don't know if this was ever fixed but I just bought the HD2 off a friend and i saw it work for him but when i received it, it boots up normally, but then when i try to touch the screen, nothing responds except for the actual buttons. It seems to be running fine, just the screen doesnt respond to anything. No warranty. Is there a fix?
It sounds like the digitizer may be busted... You could consider trying to replace it yourself but it's a tricky business, especially when some models of the Leo require soldering to get the new one on
You could also try a different ROM. To be honest though, I would ask for your money back, as it's not in the condition you wanted.
I am wondering if this truly is a digitizer issue. This happened to me the other day. I reflashed my nand rom, and it eventually "woke up" and started working fine after about an hour.
Very strange, indeed. I'm hoping it is a software issue and that my digitizer is not failing...
love to hear some more thoughts on this!
I also have this issue, but when I press the screen very hard (very very hard) or when I press the end call button continuously then it works all again.
Same thing here. I got my HD2 since last March. It works really well until recently. If I let it sleep, the screen would not respond at all when if I wake it up. Luckily, it still under warrantee so T-mobile will replace a new one for me.
Hey guys I'm posting today because I have a little problem or a huge problem I should say at this point. Anyways, I've owned a Captivate since they first came out a couple months ago. I've never had any problems with mine up until about 2 or 3 months ago when the phone started doing something weird. The bottom row of soft buttons on the phone will press themselves. Now only the back button and home button press themselves. The problem started out around the time I flashed Serendipity for the first time (not blaming the rom) I noticed the buttons would press themselves randomly at times and it started out slow, maybe once or twice a day and it didn't really annoy me. Flash forward to today and my phone is practically unusable because of this problem. Any time I wake the device from sleep the home and back buttons will rapidly press themselves over and over and over until I furiously tap either button to get the buttons to stop pressing themselves.
The problem will restart itself about 30 seconds after stopping it and It never stops. I've tried numerous re-flashes with no avail. At first I thought the problem was caused by a bad flash on my part because the problem started after I had just flashed a new rom. But I've known for a while now that wasn't the case. I've never dropped this phone or submerged it in water. This problem just popped up out of the blue one day and never went away.
Do I have a defective phone?
Thanks for the help.
Had the same problem, not to the extent your having more like once an hour they would go crazy. Placed the phone in some rice over night and the problem was gone. Im pretty sure, for me at least, was condensation had worked its way under the glass and was causing contact problems. Worth a shot for you. Never had the problem again after that.
I never even found out how it happened, though I suspect the steam from a hot shower did it.
how is your gps? if it sucks, go for warranty while you can, samsung has a 1 year warranty cross your fingers for a better replacement, or if you go through Att and you get a refurb who knows..... the board inside wont match the date under the battery and who knows how it will work.

I'll try the rice thing, can't believe I've never thought of that. I've never dropped water on the phone but it has been in the bathroom with me when I've taken showers or what not. Thanks for the idea.

My GPS does indeed suck, It takes about 5-10 minutes to get a lock on anything sitting outside. My phones still under warranty until this November so I think if I don't solve the problem soon I'll just get a new one.
Does ATT upgrade the phone to a newer version if you replace it with the warranty? I might hold out until ATT releases the Cappy 4g or whatever they're going to call it.
Hello...I'm really not sure where to post this question so, if I'm in the wrong place I apologize! Anyway, I have a Samsung Transform that the touch screen completely stopped working on and I cannot figure out what to do with it. The qwerty keypad works and allows me to partially get to things but, like I said the touch screen does not work at all (including the menu button, home button, etc). The screen is in great shape cosmetically and the phone has only been used a few months. The only questionable thing that has ever happened to the phone was that my baby got a hold of it about a month ago and got a little bit of saliva in the back. I took the battery out and thoroughly dried it and it has worked fine since so I don't think that's an issue). If anyone can steer me in the right direction or knows how to repair this issue please let me know (private message is fine too!). Thanks!

Could possibly be a software issue, but it sounds to me like the digitiser. It's an overlay for your screen that registers the presses. You can get replacements, and it's not uncommon for them to just stop working randomly. It may be as simple as opening your phone and reconnecting the digitiser cable (or even giving the plug a wiggle), but this will void your warranty if you have one.
Good luck!
So for a few minutes after boot the touch screen works fine, if I use the keyboard to navigate I can keep it alive for about 30 seconds then it won't respond, lights for the home, back, menu, and search keys flicker on and off on their own. Running Cyclonic, never had an issue with it before, just started a few days ago. Any ideas on how to fix it? Or should I just get a new phone?

try restoring a backup then flashing the newest touchscreen update in the development thread
Still pretty buggy, it works more, but still not too responsive.
I had a problem that started like this. Eventually it just stopped.. Took it to Sprint because they claimed they could "fix" it. Nogo. Insurance covered it for free tho.
= Free phone. Just took two days. bam. Still frustrating run around. Fat chick cut me in line at the store. >:-(

Might just do that, Although I have been thinking about just getting a new phone since my contract is about up.
I've been having problems with my touch screen recently, it is just randomly unresponsive.. I also have a dead spot about 3/4 of the way up the screen, about as wide as my pinky all the way across the screen. It is quite annoying and frustrating because I have to constantly rotate my phone to be able to touch certain links or options. Isn't the Shift EOL?

Yes the Shift is scheduled to be EOL. But for everyone having touch screen issues. If you try a few different fixes, and they do not work. Then your next step should be to RUU back to stock. If it resolves the issue your golden. If that still doesn't resolve the issue, then it's time to take it back to Sprint. But at least this way your Stock Unrooted so they cannot blame it on something you did. Some Sprint centers, or even third party centers will not touch the device if it's rooted.
Actually there's been a dead zone for touch in my shift since I got it. And because of a whole bunch of crazy mishaps I got screwed it off insurance.. It's been less than a year, does HTC have a one year warranty like most phone companies?
Yes they do. But make sure when you take it in it is NOT ROOTED. Or they will insist it was something you did.

Thanks, I'm going to RUU back to stock.
Let us know how it goes.
It didn't doe my dead spot the last time but I'll give it another try tomorrow, if it solves some of the other weird problems I'm having I'll be happy
back to stock last night, and today the screen completely failed

Damm that sucks. Time to take it back to Sprint.
Well I had the opposite effect, I RUU'd back to Froyo (cuz it was already on my computer) did all the OTA updates and rerooted, and my problems seem to be fixed.. Should have done it awhile ago but my laptop is sketchy right now.. Easiest way to know if you gotta take it in or not plus you're back to stock so you can take it in.. try it if you're having touchscreen problems
