screen protector

should I just get the screen protector from AT&T store?

Go naked, All the cool kids are doing it.....

i bought the iVisor from the store. works great on fingerprints & glare, but kinda dulls the screen. definite loss of clarity.
took it off at lunch today w/ the plan to return it...
then put it back on, and don't mind it as much.
dunno.

I got it and I can definitely agree with argylesocks on the clarity issue. To me though, losing a bit of clarity in favor of anti-glare doesn't bother me so I'd recommend that if you don't mind losing a little bit of clarity then grab the one from the ATT store.

i got the ivisor after i ntices a micro scratch on my screen. garilla glass is hard to scratch but i work around stuff that can cut hardened tool steel. occasionally something winds up in my pocket.
the ivisor is one of the better antiglare protectors i have seen but in general antiglare will effect the screen image. well it is a trade off. some can deal with it and some cant. there are many that are worse than this one. i would recomend it to anyone that wants a anti glare protector.

that dont mean it cant be scratched. i never scratched my captivate and i had it since august, but i did get a micro scratch on the infuse already, just got unlucky. it is barely visable but i know it is there. garilla glass vs hss and carbide doesnt help much. most people wont need a protector though

I went ahead and got the screen protector they had at at&t when I get my Infuse, in fact it was given to me free of charge because I switched from T-Mobile. I was going to get the invisible shield but this was much more convenient and free. And besides, I just like that piece of mind that I know my screen won't get scratched even though it has gorilla glass.

I got the att branded (case-mate) screen protector and hate it. It's matte surface and just looks terrible, takes away from the beauty of the screen. I'm going out to BB and another att store later to see if I can find any glossy screen protectors, otherwise I'm just gonna take this thing off.

Just got the one from ATT and its a WRITERITE. Will post after i install.

I picked up the Zagg from BB tonight. Never tried Zagg before, some people love them while others hate it, so we shall see...

Well the WRITERITE is not bad at all.. still have a lil glare but can still see fine out side. This was bought at ATT at walmart.

My wife helped me to discover that gorilla glass does crack. Four hours after buying the Infuse, she dropped it on a corner and sent several, nice cracks through the screen. At this point in life, does anyone know if screen replacements are available yet?

As far as I know, Gorilla Glass is actually more brittle than regular glass and is easier to crack.. It's just more scratch resistant.

not true. it may crack with some stress risers(scratches in particular areas) but it is difficult to crack, though im sure some forms of plastic are more crack resistant.
it may be hard and you may think that makes it brittle but it actually has a huge amount of give before it breaks.

I'm using the iVisor screen protector, mostly to help my fingers glide over the touchscreen surface smoothly. It works well for that purpose and doesn't dull the image too much. Fingerprints are far less noticeable too. Dust does get trapped at the edges of the screen protector though. Still, it's worth using IMO.

I just put a Skinomi on mine a few days ago. Not just for the scratch protection, but this stuff resists finger prints and other dirt real well.
I find myself cleaning my screen a lot less with it on than before.

the soft screen protectors like skinomi and invisishield are great. we put prtectors on phones so the screen doesnt scratch, what about the screen protector? the film type screen protectors are basically imposible to scratch

I bought the ghost armor screen protector. Their screen protectors are, bY far, the best in my opinion. Been having them in in all my phones.

Anyone take original screen protector off?

I've left the original screen protector on my phone but now its pretty badly scratched up and looks just kind of icky. Anybody removed it and just using a naked screen? I know its gorilla glass so I'm not worried. I carried my Incredible around without screen protector for a year and it was perfect. Any thoughts before I Yank this thing of for good?

Gorilla glass CAN be scratched. I kept seeing all these clips of people scratching at their screens with various pieces of metal which doesn't seem to do it. But a lot of people have reported that sand or stones can and do scratch it.

why run the risk? I just took mine off yesterday because I received a screen protector in the mail. Had it on since I got it on 4/20. Leaves a sticky residue that is easily wiped off.

Just took mine off, rocking the glass all the way.

I used the stock cover for a few days and bought the Tmobile cover, which is crap and in my opinion worse than the stock cover. Just got the whole phone covered in Ghost Armor at the mall (no messy self-installation ftw), and couldn't be happier. Feels like the stock glass, but with better protection and lifetime warranty.
The reviews showing keys scratching against the glass are bogus. Glass is a mineral and keys are metal. Metal will not scratch glass, only a mineral. So you're safe from your keys but not from dropping it on a rock or gravel.
Get a cover.

I no longer use screen protector on my phones. I like the feeling and look of the glass much better. I got a very small scratch on mines after going to the beach so I can confirm that sand is able to scratch it. But this scratch is so small that it's only visible with the screen off and holding it at certain angles, even then you need to really look for it.
Why do we make such big deals about scratches anyway? You should see all the scratches on my Palm Pre (plastic screen easily scratched), yet when the screen is on, you can't even see them.

Took my screen protector off. The screen feels amazing and more responsive. I will just keep it protected near sand.

I kept the stock "screen protector" on for a few days until I got a real protector. I immediately put a Skinomi screen protector (only $8 with free shipping on Amazon). It retains about 90% of the smooth glassy feel and the screen is still extremely responsive. I highly recommend these. You can get it here

Rocking the naked glass baby! I'd use a case but then I'd have to take it off for the car mount. Forget it, why hide these pretty eyes?

i running zagg screen protector and the screen doesnt seem as responsive...mainly when text and trying to hit the space bar...wasnt like that with a naked screen...never had that issue before and always use zagg

I will keep using the one that came with the phone until it no longer looks as clear as it does when I bought it. It has held up quite well. However, with the G2x's reliability I might not have the phone long enough for it to matter.

I took the original protector off and have been running with the glass only, no drops, keeping it away from things that might or might not scratch it.
If I look at the screen at an angle in sunlight I can see two hairline scratches which don't show up otherwise, so I'm happy

Zagg invisashield on whole phone. Had to adjust my pressure a bit afer I first put it on but its not the end of the world.
I've no confidence in gorilla glass anymore after my friend accidentally dropped his atrix off his nightstand and the screen shattered after a height of 3-4ft.

[Q] OK with no screen protector or case?

I've had my Infuse for 4-5 days and really love the design and all the cool stuff here on xda (as usual). Does Gorilla Glass mean that I don't need a screen protector? I've never been a fan of them. Also, I'm pretty gentle with my phones and would like to keep the stock look with no outer case. What do you guys think, am I flirting with disaster?
EDIT: bought a case-mate pop case in white/gray. Very happy with case and still no screen protector.

The glass is extremely hard. There are videos of people online taking razor blades to it. The plastic on the outside, however, will be more prone to scratches. It's really up to you, but I've had mine for a few weeks, and there are no visible signs of use. I don't baby my phones, but I also am not too tough on them.
There's my 2¢. I hope it helps.

I like using my phone naked because I haven't found any screen protectors that I really like yet, and I like the device without a case. That being said, I bought the moshi screen protector and casemate pop case, mostly for when I am going to be somewhere or doing something that could put my phone in danger...like when I'm drinking and prone to dropping my phone haha. Gorilla glass is scratch resistant, not scratch proof, so it's a good idea to have a screen protector in some situations.
The moshi screen protector is a tad expensive, but I think it's totally worth it for high risk situations. You can take it off and reuse it as many times as you want, and it's really easy to do so. That allows me to put it on quick when I need it, and take it off when I know it's safe. I don't like using it day to day because I love the screen on this phone, and the matte finish on the moshi makes it a bit pixilated. However, it's a life saver in many situations, and I can stand it being on there for the peace of mind while I'm doing something that requires it.
And it's always a good idea to have a case on hand just for rugged situations, and I find the pop to be very nice. It provides a ton of protection in not so huge of a package. While it's not as rugged as an otterbox or ballistic case, my phone has taken quite a few spills from 4+ feet off the ground in my case, and it still fits in my pockets just fine. Another good case that I would recommend is the body glove mirage case. It's a rubbery tpu case that is very pocketable and also provides a lot of protection. All of the accessories I've mentioned can be found at At&t stores, but you can find them cheaper elsewhere, as they mark them up a bit.

What are you doing with your phone up that high?

my plastic is all in perfect shape, but my screen has a couple of scratches on it
i try to keep it nice, but it's not easy with this big of a screen..

I didn't think you could scratch the Gorilla Glass unless under extreme punishment, what did you do to scratch it?

I'm 6'2", 4 feet off the ground is standard usage height for me while I'm standing. Haha. And gorilla glass can be scratched, I have a micro scratch on my screen from throwing my keys in my pocket.

it likely rubbed against the keys in my pocket, doesn't bother me though. just letting you know that gorilla glass is not invulnerable

We must have different glass or something for our screens. I took a razorblade to my old nexus one which was sporting gorilla glass, and there was no visible sign that anything had even happened to it. There are also videos of people online going absolutely nuts on their screens with the same results.

just need something harder than gorilla glass to scratch it. a diamond or maybe some other jewels will easily scratch as well as concrete and maybe some hard steels. keys or gold aren't likely to scratch but some key rings are made from a hard spring steel and might scrach. there is also a coating of some type on the glass that may show scratches.
the plastic definately needs protection. it is break resistant but it is way soft and the lame shiny coating can scratch off.

Scratched my screen with something. Always in its own pocket. Get a screen protector.

For myself I don't use a screen protector (had the phone since it came out). The Infuse's screen behaves just like my ole iphone4, if not better.
As others have said, the side chrome plastic will scratch easily so a case is warranted.

I actually have never dropped my phone or anything and I have two micro scratches. Samsung is willing to fix it for free the problem is you have to send them the phone and be without one for 7 days.

I work in construction, I use the Ballistics case and a screen protector on the phone, I dropped it from 10ft off a ladder onto concrete, no damage to phone or case. Best money I ever spent

No screen protector or case on my Infuse, and it's been that way since I bought it two months ago. I have one tiny, tiny scratch on the far left side of the front, but it's so far over that it isn't actually on the screen. I have no idea how it got there, I think there must have been a tiny rock or something in my pocket at one point the scratched it. Who knows. My phone has unfortunately been dropped maybe 5 times, and this never caused any damage. I think your phone will be just fine naked.

I decided to get the Case-Mate Pop case. It makes my phone look like a stormtrooper! Still no screen protector tho.

Hi guys im debating weather to put a screen protector on this baby or not, just got her yesterday. Has anyone experienced scratches? Also would someone recommend a good screen protector other than Zagg or invisishield. I'm done with those types. Also I got a casemate today but it kinda sucks, gonna return it tomorrow. Any recommendations on cases? Thanks.

I've heard from a few people on here that they've experienced scratches. I think if you are really careful you can get away with it. Some of the better cases have a lip which will protect it from falling flat on the screen.

just the normal fingerprints on my screen. you didn't just change the oil on your car/bike did you?

They do put a coating on their screen protector to keep bubbles from showing up like they did on the old iPhone 3gs cases. Me personally, I take the screen protector out. I know some people are anal about screen protectors but for me I don't see the point nor do I like the feel of them.

Screen Protectors?

Are screen protectors worth it? Or do they just leave smudges in the future when you take them off? I found a nice case on amazon that I'm going to buy for my infuse, I'm trying to figure out if screen protectors are worth it?
Anybody?

The Naked Shield screen protector came highly recommended by a folk here on the forums. You can either get the full cover or just the screen (I got the screen with the body glove TPU case)
and it won't leave smudges, affects screen quality, but not by much if at all.
edit: Got mine for $3.75 on ebay ($7.00 for the body glove case)

I'm just going to get the Amzer Silicone Skin Jelly Case, looks nice enough for a casing. I'm not going to use a screen protector though. I just don't want to leave any marks on the screen if it does.

I've found that unless you put your phone in your pocket with keys that you don't really need a screen protector.

I find it better to be safe than sorry. I remember getting a big old scratch across my iPhone just for putting it in my pocket. I know this is gorilla glass but I like the peace of mind that it offers.

These thread are kind of pointless. I can understand the value of asking which screen protector or case protector is or are better.
It will cost you $5 to protect a $400+ piece of equipment.
What happens if your phone does get scratched...too late for a screen protector.
Gorilla glass DOES get scratched.
Apply a matt screen protector or a good quality one done the right way and you wont even notice it.

Your assuming that there are no downsides of having a protector. All though screen protectors are cheap and work well. They do affect the screen quality regardless of how well you put it on and its quality. It's personal opinion on how much it affects it though.
IMO it doesn't hurt it too much and I have one on.

I'm sorry you feel that this thread is pointless. I apologize for creating it.
I should've restated my question better I guess. I know that some screen protectors leave smudges and stickiness on the actual screen when taken them off. I was wondering if there where any high quality ones out there that are worth it.

Thanks for the response.

If you're still looking for a screen protector I have the naked shield one. I just put it on my phone and it is great. It adds a rubbery finish but still slick when sliding. Unless you do a perfect application the screen does get imperfections that are noticible when looking at off angles (head on in low light it is not noticible)
I have an application with no bubbles and no dust and it looks great. But it is noticible.

No, i've never had a logo on my screen protectors and i've gotten many for the iphone and then for my infuse. Mine is starting to come up around the bottom of my screen now but Zagg offers lifetime warranties.

Hmmm, very interesting features of Zagg's protectors. But is it glossy or matte? I really don't like fingerprints on the sun, so matte protector may reduce this paintbrush effect

They may offer a matte finish i'm not sure, but mine is glossy so it does pick up fingerprints.

I have the zagg screnn protector too, and no it doesnt leave smudges if removed (only those cheap ones leave smudges/marks when removed) the zagg i got was supposed to be scratch proof...it got a scratch and since it has life time warrenty...i got it replaced-thats the only way i know that it leaves no residue
