Windows Mobile on a Blackberry?

Is it possible to flash a Blackberry and change its crappy OS for a nice Windows Mobile ROM? I mean, the Blackberry Bold is a great piece of hardware and it could be a great device if it would be possible to run Windows Mobile on it.
Any brilliant ROM cooker from XDA tried this already or thinking about trying it?
Thank you.
No, it's about impossible to do that. If WinMo were open source, maybe, but it's so complicated and device specific that you would have to make the bootloader and many other complex and low level portions of the OS from scratch. I've never ever heard of anyone porting Windows Mobile to an existing device that didn't come with it. Sorry, but it looks like you're stuck with Blackberry's OS.
And what about Android, or Maemo? There was a rumor about Android for BB...

Hypothetically it would be possible, but you'd need a large enough demand for the devs to get involved. First, they'd need to reverse engineer the device as to know what internal hardware it uses and if that can be compatible with Android/Maemo. Then, they'd need to modify the kernel to support the device. All the while, they'd need a Linux bootloader, like HaRET for Windows Mobile, so they could test and make adjustments accordingly.
Thank you Dave. Hard to believe nobody did it already...
And by the way, would you prefer a Nokia N900 with Maemo over a Tilt 2 with WinMo 6.5?
Maybe Maemo is more stable...

While Maemo looks very promising, and I'd love to one day get my hands on something comprable (maybe N900, or even xpPhone), I'm a pretty hardcore Windows Mobile fan. Plus, XDA-Developers is great, so I'd probably pick the Tilt2 simply because I like hacking these devices to their very limits, an area where Windows Mobile never fails me. However, I'd say that a person's smartphone preferences are extremely personal, so what may work for me may be disappointing to others. If you can play around with either in a store, I'd highly recommend doing so before purchasing either device.
After having 2 phones with Windows Mobile, I ended up with the conclusion that WM is very unstable, very slow and it crashes too much. Sometimes you don't get a call simply because the system crashed without you noticing. Maybe the processor has to be like 1000 MHZ+ to handle this very heavy OS.
I would suggest you to wait for the Omnia Pro with the sliding keyboard that comes with a 800 mhz processor instead of Tilt 2 with a 528 mhz which is a bit old now.
Maemo seems like a more stable OS and it can also handle VOIP. The only 2 OS that have a native skype client are the WM phones and the Nokia N series like the N900 with Maemo.

No, the iphone has a native skype client that only works over wifi, not over 3G, so its worthless. You can use skype over 3G only if you use Fring.

It's working just great with 3G Unrestrictor. I always conduct a lot of Skype calls over 3G.
All you need is jailbreak your phone and purchase 3G Unrestrictor.

Is there a way to do the same with a Blackberry Bold and make skype possible over 3G as a VOIP call?

Nope. Google Earth is only available for PC, MAC or Linux operating systems.
I doubt if it will ever be available for hand-held devices on account of the various hardware/software resources it requires to run. Maybe if Microsoft ever release DirectX drivers for Mobiles/PPCs...?
But, as ReneGoetz suggests, GoogleMaps for Mobiles is a pretty good substitute. Just not as much 'fun'...
There is at least one mobile device, the iPhone has an Google Earth app, not full fledged as the PC one but its there, full 3d. sadly as said before not on WM.

Apps you're dying to have?

I was wondering what upcoming announced (and a bit unannounced) apps you guys are looking forward to have?
For me all I care about right now is:
Trillian for Android
WhatsApp for Android
and hopefully a real Windows Live Messenger app. One that allow file transfers like on WinMo/BB and I can atleast change my avatar.
Grindr.
10char
It's a game I can't live without on the iPod - Jabeh.

Skype! Skype! Skype!
I'd love to have a WhatTheFont application on my Android phone. There is a version for iPhone (of course ).
I'd like to have a service like microsoft myphone

Skype usable on Wifi and 3G on any network.
Some more games.

NS Train time table thats stored on the device instead of the net.(Roaming 3G is a tad too expensive for me =P)
STEAM Community (Too bad this will probably never happen)
And finally something thats not really an app, Hotmail Live ActiveSync.
Tilt to live

Would be nice if one big company would come out with an Android app before an Iphone app.....Android so much better than apple...oh well Android still in its infancy.....
Is it too much to ask for a proper port for angry birds on the Android? Doodle Jump's port was hilariously bad.
I guess Skype / WhatsApp is pretty good. helps me and my girlfriend saves some money.
but basically anything that needs to be paid on the market, i wants it. not supported in my country for purchases yet ):
Well, I got the WhatsApp Beta. So I can kinda like cross that off. Too bad I only got like 6 friends that use it

[Q] Video chat

Wanting to do video chat with a friend of mine, and she said something about her using "Facetime" does that sound right? she has AT&T. looked up "facetime" for droid but can't find it. im on Verizon (Thunderbolt). is there an app that will let me video chat w/her but still let her use her "Facetime" app? or do we both need something like Skype?
I have the LG Revolution..you need GingerBread or 2.2.3 update to do any type of front facing chat
As far as I know, Facetime is a video-chatting application for iPhone / iPad only. It is restricted to those devices and won't work with Android, for instance.

damn! ok, thanks.
It also only works over Wifi, so basically slightly less useful than other video chat phones.
I've just seen that the new version of Skype for Android has a function like that. But I haven't tried it yet.

Dont get me wrong, if we could run Android games on our phones as an emulator, I would not mind it at all. There are a few titles on there that I was thinking about grabbing a used Android device just to play a few games (a year old model that COULD run ICS after rooting, I can get under $100).
There are a great selection of games for WM6 and if they can run at full speed, it could be impressive.
So I am fine with both....
