OTA Update - HTC Sensation

Did anyone else get an update message today?

No. What update? Proof?

That's a big no here, and checking for an update doesn't give any results either

i sense tmo us will be the last one to get =/

There has been OTA updates in Europe. I'm from Denmark and I have received it. Also heard that UK has got it.

I'm from Germany and I received it, too.
It's an update from the Vodafone Stock Rom 1.27.162.1 to 1.35.162.1

are the ota updates dependent on the kernal and not on your location or the mobile network?

I got an update notice (t-mobile, Missouri), but it was just some silly application update. Nothing cool. My wife got the same one at the same time. Maybe this is what you got?

Same here - just some application update. No sort of FW push if that is what you mean.

Holland got ota too.
Here in Holland we got the OTA on branded and unbranded phones too.

Same in France a few days ago. French people using Sense say it improved Sense. Some with touchscreen issues say it's better.
As I use Launcher Pro and never had touchscreen issues, this OTA is just a vast joke for me, nothing new.

This reminds me of the South Park episode where Randy Marsh kills an alien, galaxy police ask him if they've seen anyone,
France: "Nope can't say that we have"
Germany: "Anyone? Nope nobody."
followed by a bunch of other countries.
Offtopic, apologies, hilarious how ironic these threads are, specifically this one...

I'm in Cambodia I've got Asian version..., I just updated to 1.35.707.1

Nope. No update here in California.

No updates in Hong Kong. HTC often skips over Hong Kong altogether unfortunately...

same here in Indonesia, i also got this update
anyone got this update and having trouble with perma temp root?
i cant root it ever since i update my htc sensation with this.
i tried removing superuser and reboot, and run the perm temp root again, but still not working

Not sure what my version is as I bought it in China and comes with all asian language versions (so maybe a generic asian version), but I'm on 1.28 and tried an update check which came up empty.

I just got updated to 1.35.707.1. I am from South Asia- Bangladesh

[Q] Is the ota only available in the states?

Going to get my grubby hands on the NS sometime next 2 weeks. I am not in the US. Would I be able to get the OTA? I guess the questions is the OTA device dependent or T-mobile dependent or location dependent?
Happy holidays guys

good question, the N1 seemed to have separate OTA packages
I have it with Mobilicity and I haven't received the update yet.
I'm in the uk. Upgraded yesterday and not received ota yet... including trying the "checkin" numerous times.
Not got the new market yet either.

I don't know for sure, but I would assume the answer would be yes.
Good news is that you can always manually update and that is a fairly straight forward process. See here for more information: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884097
I'm in the UK and picked my SIM free NS up yesterday evening. I got the OTA within an hour of switching it on.

Turned my phone off for about 5-6 hours ( charging), booted and bam right there it popped up...

bought the phone in the US and I'm in Belgium (on Proximus) and I got the OTA yesterday evening.
Sweet, so I guess its device dependent, instead of country or service provider.. nice Thanks guys and happy holidays to all
I'm reconfirming it is not location or provider dependent.
I'm in Montreal on Videotron and I got the update this morning.
it's device ROM dependant not provider or location
they could, but at this stage i doubt they will enable IP filtering
Ahh, so how would google know to send the ota? Each time the rom is switched on, it sends a check update to google?

+ 1 to the auto-update. Once I had the NS linked to a WiFi connection, it asked to be updated. I'm in the southern UK.
I am extreeemely eager to get the nexus s - but I am based in Dubai.
Cud somebody please confirm if the update will be available regardless of country / location?
[or better still, if someone from the middle east has already gotten the update on their N-S?]
i am dying to get the NS and chuck my iPhone out the window...but i need a bit more confidence to jump on board and buy it esp. b/c it has not been released in this country...
I got the notification a few days back, in India.
I guess i could rename this thread to the non-us nexus S club I am in Brunei myself.. waiting on mom to arrive in 4 days from LA

[Q] Will uk vodafone be locked?

Ie Could I buy sim free and put O2 sim in it??
You won't be able to buy simfree from Vodafone, but once it's out at places like Amazon, you will be able too put any SIM card in you want, yes.
It won't be sim locked. they say none of their phones are.
I thought all of Vodafone's devices were locked. Great news if it's unlocked.
I bought my HD2 directly from the Vodafone UK website about 18 months ago and it's unlocked.
But my DHD is locked to t-mobile
Vodafone haven't locked Contract phones for years now. PAYG however...
I ordered mine from Vodafone today, are we expecting this to be a standard version or a Vodafone infected version.
Vodafone rom, with their super fast update schedule- not. Without doubt.
Thanks for reminding me on that one. Im definately waiting till when I return from honeymoon in mid june. If I buy it, definately getting it sim free with maybe a 3 mobile ayce sim. Vodafone lag way behind official updates.

Given the speed it's coming out, I kind of expect a stock ROM.

Having said that mate, Vodafone have an EU release clause with HTC, so when an update goes live in the EU, it goes live in the UK too. Not like other carries. Vodafone got the official GB release before anyone else on the DHD

I'm also betting on them sticking to stock ROM to get the initial batch out as early as possible.
Even if it's a branded ROM I won't mind too much as Vodafone have recently been getting HTC ROM updates out before unbranded updates (as crazy as that sounds) and their bloatware seems to be reduced as of late too.

The only 'bloatware' my original Vodafone HTC Magic had was a Vodafone Live! app, which only ran if you wanted to use it.

If my new Sensation arrives with no bloatware, I will make an effort to thank them on the Vodafone eforum. I like to let them know I appreciate it

Given how fast we are getting them, I bet they will just be direct from HTC to the customers! I hope so at least!
Re: rom updates. Can only go off when hd2 got released. We had to wait a fair bit for updates. Cant comment on other handsets. Sorry

Silly question perhaps, but even if the vodafone handset is unlocked, will we still have to wait for vodafone to release updates or will we get them straight from HTC?

Pretty sure if this is the case then the updates will come straight from HTC, but I'm no expert.

With the Desire, it had to come from Vodafone unless you debrand it and flash a WWE RUU via Goldcard. The initial batch were unbranded though. There was much noise made when Vodafone delayed the Froyo update and initially released firmware which had a branded splash screen and various other useless bits and pieces (eg links to dating services, Vodafone Live, etc etc). It was then retracted and an unbranded Froyo was subsequently released. This whole fiasco was even reported on TechRadar UK
I think Vodafone pay monthly phones are all unlocked. It says so on their website. If I remember correctly, their phones did used to be locked but you could request an unlock code once your contract was up (or I think pay a small fee). The only exception was the Blackberry Storm, but let's not reopen old wounds I think I threw mine hard into a brick wall

Will an Unlocked T mobile One S get OTA directly from HTC?

Hi Guys,
I tried searching the web for this but just couldn't find a concrete answer.
Do carrier related phones still depend on the carrier for OTA updates when unlocked or they receive timely updates directly from the manufacturer?
I am buying an Unlocked T mobile One S here in India obviously because of the superior S4 processor. I read in the forums that the T Mobile Jelly Bean update really messes up the battery life. Hence I was wondering if even I would have the same problem.
So my question is, will my phone in India also get the T Mobile update or the HTC one. Also in the future, would it be receiving all OTA updates from HTC?

No
T-Mobile does not send the file themselves. Your CID, which is probably T-MOB010, is used to decide whether to give you world-wide, unbranded updates or something else. Yours will get the update from T-Mobile, but it will be released from HTC's servers
If you mean a SIM unlocked T-Mobile HTC One S, then yes, it will still receive OTA updates. Mine is SIM unlocked and still got the JB update.
Yes, would the unlocked T Mobile HTC one S have to wait for T Mobile JB update as per United States or since I am using it on Vodafone and in India, it would get the JB update as and when any other HTC One S in India gets it?
Glad if you could help.
Thanks.

Yes you have to wait as T-Mobile modify ota update and test again over there network then release it
It lags 2-3 months
I purchased my s4 HTC One S black
2 month ago from USA but not T-Mobile version it is factory unlocked European version
My opinion try more & you will find same as mine don't buy T-Mobile version when you update them they can be lock again 3g net frequency problem also there
From HTC One S

When will carrier locked devices get 4.2

It's been like 2 months since the update was rolling out. But i still didn't get it. I'm from the Philippines. Anyone know when the update will come internationally? Or at least when will carriers roll it out?
Sent from my HTC One SV using xda app-developers app
Update started rolling out on November, 4. So it's even not a full moth. I understand, everybody wants it, but nobody from us will know, when HTC gets the permission to start. This is not the fault of HTC, this is because of provider locked phones. Only after provider finished testing, they give their ok for release. And One SV is not in the top list of providers phone testing.
And you are not alone. Boost don't have it and a german provider also don't give it to their customers (4.1.2 where 2 months after first release).

HTC Alexa (Updated)

I had previously raised this post because HTC Alexa was installed on my phone but could not use it and unfortunately did not get a response from anyone. I noticed that only US, UK, and Germany are supported. I live in the UK but I got my phone from Hong Kong, does anyone know how we can make it work here in the UK?
I was looking forward to using it too and have an official UK version from HTC but honestly Alexa isn't worth it at the moment, maybe in an update or two...it's very limited functionality wise and assistant can do so much more..
