So when do we get GB - Thunderbolt General

Ok so we got our radio finally. When do our awesome devs get ahold of a real gb ruu leak. Then well really see some magic happening around here.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk

we have the GB leak... if your asking about the official release i say late summer or early fall.

Nevar!
I dont think anyone should wait around for the OTA anymore. the GB leak is quite stable now that the devs have gotten hold of it.

From what I've heard it won't be Sense 3.0 either. The only thing i think can really be improved is the crazy battery drain the GB roms suffer from. Everything else (to me of course) is golden now. Thank god so many great developers have the same phone as me haha!

I honestly hope it won't be Sense 3.0. That is one huge thing keeping me away from gb roms. 3.0 turns android into sense and it loses its identity I feel. I think 3.0 is just too much...

im just wondering if we will officially see an OS update after gingerbread? i cannot see the tbolt just being abandoned like that.

I didn't like it when we first started getting roms based on it as well (it was so choppy), but now that they're smooth and almost bug-free, I love the transitions. Oh well, to each his own.

If they went through all the effort and bandwidth for this last ota fix update... I wouldn't hold your breath for a quick GB release... Its sad they should have skipped it and just pounded out GB IMO. That is just my thoughts.

What are you talking about? I can easily get from morning (9am) to night (12am) without needing to plug my phone in.
There is no difference between froyo and GB when it comes to battery life. If you leave data on (4G) then you're going to suffer in terms of battery no matter what rom you're on.
Just turn off mobile data when you're not using it.

Htc has already stated that single core phones will not be getting sense 3.0.

Here's a screeny from the other day. Notice how I was on Wifi for a good amount of time, but also my signal was poor all day long as well. Disabling mobile data goes a long way trust me.

I'm talking about the fact that I personally didn't need to do that with froyo like I do with GB roms. I also turn of my mobile data when I'm not using it, and it doesn't bother me at all (wouldn't go back to froyo if you put a gun to my head). I get about the same results as you with turning off my mobile data when I'm not using it, I just got the same results with froyo with 4g on all the time. My 2 cents.

I've heard that GB won't be released until maybe around Christmas. I'm in VA & also heard that LTE won't be here until as well. Any insights to any of this? Would greatly appreciate any info.

2.3 Doesnt have that many new things, but still awesome. I know you can get it through CM7 and other roms, but an official rom will help future ports and increase stability of user created roms, possibly the stability of CM7 on mt4G.
HTC rep told me it was coming end of feb, then saw her again and she told me it was definitely coming middle of march. So while not exactly a lofty goal projecting an entire quarter of a year for a release date, I'll just acknowledge that it's probably coming. someday. definitely maybe.
Sweet! I cant wait for this update!!
It should be in June when the evo 3d comes.

Remember Folks,
Those of us who are brave enough, have had 2.3 for a while thanks to Cyanogen, etc. I will not wait for HTC, they seem to take their time. Not to mention they still haven't put out 2.2 for the MT3G Slide... Besides this will be the last update from HTC if the buyout goes through. Why support a phone that will be a paperweight in a year or so...

The only reason an official 2.3.3 is good, is for the kernel source and the new lib files for sense and 2.3 that are native to our phone. Makes future ports that much easier.

I know, Ive been using CM7 for a while, but the official 2.3 from HTC is still big news for those who prefer the stock rom. Ill probably go back to stock once the OTA's start rolling out. Also, as stated before, native and official kernels and code will make future ports a lot more easier and stable.

MR2 or MR2.5 Radio?

Any suggestions?
What works best?

MR2 to me had better battery life
But MR2.5 has better signal strength
MR2.5 drains my battery pretty quick and I've had more random shutdowns from MR2 but only have had one from MR2.5
LOL but with 2.5 for some reason sometimes its like my texts get stuck and when I reboot they come flowing in like crazy all at once and i didn't have that with MR2
I don't know if this helped and all this might not even stem from the radio version and have to do more with kernels and roms but that's my 2 cents
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
I actually had that text message bug happen to me just this morning on the MR2 radio. I don't think it is necessarily a 2.5 issue or necessarily a radio issue for that matter.
Whatever the reason, I'm glad I have reports turned on, or I would have never known to try resetting my phone.

You said MR2 twice lol, which was 2.5?
It's a bit give or take for me. Mr2 transitions a lot smoother and favors 4G even with lesser coverage which I like. Mr2.5 gives me better signal but the issue I have with it is the transition is a tad bit slower, and does favor 3g over 4g if you're on the edge of coverage. Also had issues losing data when my screen is off.

I noticed faster battery drain in mr2.5, but both caused reboots of my phone. I never had reboots until I upgraded to mr2.0. I downgraded back to 1.12.605.6 and now I have reboots. DARN play with something and you break it.

[Q] CM7 - does it help signal reliability?

First thing's first - I can honestly say I love this phone. I've had it for almost 2 months now and have never had a complaint... Sure, the signal doesn't always look good on the bars, but I've yet to drop a call and reception has always been good .... I thought...
Two days ago I noticed that under the battery consumption it showed that I was without signal 92% of the day while in the office. I had never been told that anyone was unable to get me on the cell until I asked around after that. Slews of people said they call me but it always rolls to voicemail.
I did at least 2 dozen test calls yesterday and what I'd say that it was alarming at best when only two of those calls actually rang through.
When I got home I watched the signal meter closely and reset the % of time without signal by fully charging the battery. At home I have 3 bars consistently. Come 9PM, which was about 3 hours off the charger, I was without signal 58% of the time. Again, I asked around to my usual callers - four people had tried to call me and all went to voicemail. I severely questioned that, until I called my voicemail and each of them had left messages - and I had not received a voicemail waiting indicator.
SO...
All of that having been said - is it any better with CM7 ? The phone is rooted and ready to play, but I am hesitant to install a pre-beta build on the phone when I depend on it for work.
Thanks so much for any feedback!
If you want a better phone, install b_randon14's mod. I wouldn't recommend cyanogenmod quite yet.

Well never mind my suggestion, looks like the mod was pulled. Data with the phone has never been perfect exactly, but that mod was theoretically meant to improve on those things. You'll probably have to ask b_randon14 himself whether it'll be re-uploaded in full or in part...

Not really an option for me... When I'm at work, our wireless network here requires EAP-FAST, which is not available for Android. I've got a way to connect in, ONLY if I bring in my Win7 laptop with me, and that's using an app called Connectify that turns my laptop into a WiFi router, then again, I'm a slave to the network nazis here in the office. They have the ports here locked down - HARD.

Right now the only 2.3 ROM available is the pre-alpha CM7...
That having been said, this phone's GSM cousin has a 2.3 ROM available from it's carrier, but I'm sure it would take a TON of work to re-work that into something we could use.
Finally got around to taking a screen capture of the miserable amount of no signal that I get...
I apologize for the crappy screen cap - guess DroCap2 doesn't like this phone!

Uh.... you can't jump "bump" the megapixels up. The hardware has to support it. And as far as we all know, the G2x has an 8 megapixel camera. The only phone that I'm aware of with a good 12 megapixel camera is the Nokia N8. I think that's actually the only "mainstream" phone with a megapixel count that high.

And Megapixels aren't even important, it all has to do with the camera sensor.
I think the G2x has a sweet cam. I get compliments all the time. I also take lots of shots in dark places and typically come out better then expected.
And the Dev section was never abandoned. I think the Sensation hype is over and lots of people have returned back to the G2x (told ya so). There are tons of Roms ranging from Custom Stock builds, CM7-Kangs, and MIUI builds.

Agreed. The only issue I have is no auto focus (for video), making it hard to take any close-up shots in video mode. I finally have a great camera to record with, but no close ups of text (which sucks if you're doing reviews).
As for development, i'm glad to see it. I've been rooted for a month but haven't tried any ROMs yet because while I may love testing software out on my computer, testing out ROMs on my life support (aka, smartphone) i'm a little more cautious. I gotta get over that fear. Been leaning towards Weapon G2x and the new CM7 stable release. Just gotta find somewhere to get that extra push
Always had buyers remorse ever since day one. Still did when the whole reboot issue just exploded.
Also figured out this device even with all its fault, is still great. I am glad that device ironed out all the bugs and fixes. Still, the phone was great overall and got back to CM7.
The one thing I miss is myTouch 4G stability. That was my previous phone. This one is getting there. Glad development is alive and well.
Yea BOY! The G2X is alive!
Its even more active now with all the ports. Someone is even porting LG optimus 2x layout.

I recently got into flashing ROMs, and it's been awesome. I tried a few, and settled with Weapon. It's freaking awesome.
I think the G2x has more advantages than most of the recently released phones. It's got an awesome speakerphone, screen is not so big that it draws a lot of batt., but not small either, all the ROM devs making stable, mature ROMs to choose from, and I'm getting some amazing battery life (at idle, about 1.5% drop, per hour).
Keep up the good work guys!
It's ALIVE

Keep in mind, we don't actually have the galaxy s 2, we have the skyrocket version, plus we have att's draconian certification process to get through. I'd love to see it on that date but I'll believe it when I see it.

Actually, with AT&T already giving the Vivid the ICS update, I'd say that this could be pretty realistic.
At least we know if it doesn't come soon, it's not AT&T, it's Samsung.
ICS has not been released for the Vivid. That is someone talking out of turn (a dedicated tester or volunteer tester). That realease would be all over Android Central and our website.

Yeah, and why are they able to check for updates, and get it?

Love how they mention that leaked roms from Samsung are showing signs of progress. My question is, WHERE ARE THE ICS LEAKS FOR THE SKYOCKET?!?
When I had my Captivate we were getting new gingerbread leaks almost every day for several months. Who do we need to talk to to get some leaks for us? Anyone know???

Oh, and had to hit the thanks button on Fortune and Silver's posts above. Needed a good laugh!

How do over the air updates with AT&T's work? Isn't just a pop-up box you can cancel or are they forced or what? I rooted my mom's phone but left in stock. Not sure what to expect.

It gives you a notification saying you have an update available, if you want to install it or not, is your choice.
Sometimes you'll even get a text informing you that your phone has an update available.
Another question for the updates, is it only for carrier sold phones? I bought mine at the US but I'm at Israel and I still haven't received the 2.3.6 update.
Very good news, will open development of some nice ROM's. Maybe it will keep me from flashing once or twice a week.
I doubt it. We'll see though, hopefully they surprise.

To throw my two cents in, the fact that SGSII international is getting it soon and supposedly Vivid is getting it now is a good sign for us.
However, I really don't like TouchWiz's overlay of ICS. To me one of the main features of ICS was a revamped and slick look. TouchWiz 4 just kills that. So what do I, personally (and anyone who feels the same) have to look foward to with ICS?
This is coming from an Android noob btw, so if there was extra features besides the FaceUnlock *useless imo* and sleek UI please enlighten me.

The real benefit will be the Kernel getting into the hands of the Devs. In time, they will do many thing with it including a non-Touchwiz version ROM.

From what I understand ICS is completely redone. There are alot of new code and things done different from previous versions of Android. I can understand why nothing has really been released yet. I know there is a couple versions of ICS over in the development section but there are very few things that work.
