MR2 or MR2.5 Radio? - Thunderbolt General

Any suggestions?
What works best?
Which had better battery?

MR2 to me had better battery life
But MR2.5 has better signal strength
MR2.5 drains my battery pretty quick and I've had more random shutdowns from MR2 but only have had one from MR2.5
LOL but with 2.5 for some reason sometimes its like my texts get stuck and when I reboot they come flowing in like crazy all at once and i didn't have that with MR2
I don't know if this helped and all this might not even stem from the radio version and have to do more with kernels and roms but that's my 2 cents
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App

I actually had that text message bug happen to me just this morning on the MR2 radio. I don't think it is necessarily a 2.5 issue or necessarily a radio issue for that matter.
Whatever the reason, I'm glad I have reports turned on, or I would have never known to try resetting my phone.
Running Bamf remix 2.1 btw.

Have this exact experience. MR2 rebooted daily. Running MR2 with gingeritis final and had two reboots total. The former being unbearable on BAMF 2.0+

You said MR2 twice lol, which was 2.5?

It's a bit give or take for me. Mr2 transitions a lot smoother and favors 4G even with lesser coverage which I like. Mr2.5 gives me better signal but the issue I have with it is the transition is a tad bit slower, and does favor 3g over 4g if you're on the edge of coverage. Also had issues losing data when my screen is off.

I noticed faster battery drain in mr2.5, but both caused reboots of my phone. I never had reboots until I upgraded to mr2.0. I downgraded back to 1.12.605.6 and now I have reboots. DARN play with something and you break it.

no GB rom yet, the perfect storm with mr2........works nice for me but do see data switch problem when going into somewhere the data dies (tunnel, elevator). it likes to sit on 3g for a bit.......not in NYC my friend.......not in NYC........I had not seen 3g since my old droid until this little problem......perhaps I will give mr2.5 a shot

I've had better luck with 2.5

Aren't they both the same? Im pretty sure jcase wrote it somewhere that their identical. I could be wrong. I didn't even bother with MR2.5 for that reason.

yea I decided to try 2.5 but I am probably going to go back to 2.0 because 3g likes to show itself more often with 2.5 so I had to go into the radio settings and tell it lte mode only to tell 3g to gtfo

So when do we get GB

Ok so we got our radio finally. When do our awesome devs get ahold of a real gb ruu leak. Then well really see some magic happening around here.

we have the GB leak... if your asking about the official release i say late summer or early fall.
Nevar!
I dont think anyone should wait around for the OTA anymore. the GB leak is quite stable now that the devs have gotten hold of it.

From what I've heard it won't be Sense 3.0 either. The only thing i think can really be improved is the crazy battery drain the GB roms suffer from. Everything else (to me of course) is golden now. Thank god so many great developers have the same phone as me haha!

I honestly hope it won't be Sense 3.0. That is one huge thing keeping me away from gb roms. 3.0 turns android into sense and it loses its identity I feel. I think 3.0 is just too much...
im just wondering if we will officially see an OS update after gingerbread? i cannot see the tbolt just being abandoned like that.

I didn't like it when we first started getting roms based on it as well (it was so choppy), but now that they're smooth and almost bug-free, I love the transitions. Oh well, to each his own.
If they went through all the effort and bandwidth for this last ota fix update... I wouldn't hold your breath for a quick GB release... Its sad they should have skipped it and just pounded out GB IMO. That is just my thoughts.

What are you talking about? I can easily get from morning (9am) to night (12am) without needing to plug my phone in.
There is no difference between froyo and GB when it comes to battery life. If you leave data on (4G) then you're going to suffer in terms of battery no matter what rom you're on.
Just turn off mobile data when you're not using it.

Htc has already stated that single core phones will not be getting sense 3.0.
Here's a screeny from the other day. Notice how I was on Wifi for a good amount of time, but also my signal was poor all day long as well. Disabling mobile data goes a long way trust me.

I'm talking about the fact that I personally didn't need to do that with froyo like I do with GB roms. I also turn of my mobile data when I'm not using it, and it doesn't bother me at all (wouldn't go back to froyo if you put a gun to my head). I get about the same results as you with turning off my mobile data when I'm not using it, I just got the same results with froyo with 4g on all the time. My 2 cents.
I've heard that GB won't be released until maybe around Christmas. I'm in VA & also heard that LTE won't be here until as well. Any insights to any of this? Would greatly appreciate any info.

well i just flashed the new update reflashed cwmr then nandroided cm7 and the new base band puts me at full bars in my house where before i only would have 2 and not only that but when i did speedtest i got 7mb dl and 1.5mb ul which is almost double the speed increase than before

One area of variation to note, is that the speed tests I did today seem to be accessing a server MUCH further away, yet results are faster. Not sure what the deal with that is. Maybe one of you with more knowledge in this area can educate me.

well with the newer baseband your cell data isnt constantly searching for network, if u go into ur about settings u will see that, well mines isnt like the old baseband was so thus equals better battery life also see quicker speeds
I'm sure the new baseband makes some contribution to the improved battery life, but its not the whole story.
I flashed EB GB 2.3.3 several days ago and am also experiencing insanely improved battery life without the new baseband.

The majority of the juice used by your phone is for the radio. Then the screen, and then the processor.

Battery life with latest ruu(2.11.605.0)

Is it just me or is the battery life from the the latest ruu(2.11.605.0) amazing? I'm at 16.5 hours with out a recharge and I still have 40% battery to go! I'm not sure if I just didn't install some random app that drains my battery like crazy or what but as far as I know all my settings are consistant with my normal setup. Its also worth noting that this is the second day with mega battery as the same thing happened yesterday but I shrugged it off as a fluke.
Please don't flame this thread, as I'm only posting this to see if others have had the same success. My guess is that HTC finally fixed what ever was draining the battery like a brick.
My setup
Latest Stock rooted ruu
3 hour weather sync
4 hour Facebook and twitter sync
2 Google accounts full sync on(ie. Docs, reader, gmail, cal, music, etc. One is business and the other is personal)
Once a day rss feeds
Wifi turned all day connected for probably 60% of the day.
My phone is mostly used for data and text messaging since I only talked for about 15 minutes today.

I installed the 2.11 update this morning. After getting things configured I jumped in the car to run some errands and noticed I did NOT have landscape mode after exiting the dock app. This never happened to me on MR2. After the first errand I rebooted the phone hoping it would fix it but no dice!
Anyone else not getting landscape mode on the homescreens (outside of the dock app) when in the car dock? Hoping it's just me.

CL3ANTH3ORY 1.2X is based off of 2.11, and from what I've heard, Revolutionary will still work. If you upgrade and have S-OFF, just flash CWM and then SU.
While we're at it, why stay rooted stock? Seems the OTA will be out shortly and that will cause all sorts of problems-- or at least be an annoyance
Thanks. I may give Revolutionary a try this afternoon.

[Q] CM7 - does it help signal reliability?

First thing's first - I can honestly say I love this phone. I've had it for almost 2 months now and have never had a complaint... Sure, the signal doesn't always look good on the bars, but I've yet to drop a call and reception has always been good .... I thought...
Two days ago I noticed that under the battery consumption it showed that I was without signal 92% of the day while in the office. I had never been told that anyone was unable to get me on the cell until I asked around after that. Slews of people said they call me but it always rolls to voicemail.
I did at least 2 dozen test calls yesterday and what I'd say that it was alarming at best when only two of those calls actually rang through.
When I got home I watched the signal meter closely and reset the % of time without signal by fully charging the battery. At home I have 3 bars consistently. Come 9PM, which was about 3 hours off the charger, I was without signal 58% of the time. Again, I asked around to my usual callers - four people had tried to call me and all went to voicemail. I severely questioned that, until I called my voicemail and each of them had left messages - and I had not received a voicemail waiting indicator.
SO...
All of that having been said - is it any better with CM7 ? The phone is rooted and ready to play, but I am hesitant to install a pre-beta build on the phone when I depend on it for work.
Thanks so much for any feedback!
If you want a better phone, install b_randon14's mod. I wouldn't recommend cyanogenmod quite yet.

Well never mind my suggestion, looks like the mod was pulled. Data with the phone has never been perfect exactly, but that mod was theoretically meant to improve on those things. You'll probably have to ask b_randon14 himself whether it'll be re-uploaded in full or in part...

Not really an option for me... When I'm at work, our wireless network here requires EAP-FAST, which is not available for Android. I've got a way to connect in, ONLY if I bring in my Win7 laptop with me, and that's using an app called Connectify that turns my laptop into a WiFi router, then again, I'm a slave to the network nazis here in the office. They have the ports here locked down - HARD.

Great to see ya! If I can get things rolling right, I'll be staying with Virgin - can't beat the price and it felt great to give the finger to T-Mobile!
Any plans on any awesome rom cooking like you did on the Vibrant? :-D

Not sure yet. Don't even know what base roms are available for this phone yet. Don't even know if there's a 2.3.x available for this. Still too new. But, probably going to be based on official firmware for the triumph.

Right now the only 2.3 ROM available is the pre-alpha CM7...
That having been said, this phone's GSM cousin has a 2.3 ROM available from it's carrier, but I'm sure it would take a TON of work to re-work that into something we could use.
Finally got around to taking a screen capture of the miserable amount of no signal that I get...
I apologize for the crappy screen cap - guess DroCap2 doesn't like this phone!

Download screenshot, the rooted app if you have root. It takes reliable ones .
And forgive me again, looks like b_randon14's rom is back up and better than ever.

[Q] Canadian Users -- What Radio/Modems work the best for you!?

Hello fellow Canadians!
I just wanted to collect some information on what Radios/Modems you are using on your Galaxy S2 LTE. The reason is because I am using the UCLF6 Radio and I am having some performance issues on LTE and tethering on LTE so I wanted to know what radios are working for you. This is my current set up. Thanks you for your help!
ROM: Official CM 10.0 Stable
Radio: UCLF6
Carrier: Rogers
Happy Holidays!

Canada is pretty big I would recommend narrow it down a little as modems performance for me vary from west side to north east on the island I live (and thats just a 2-3 hour drive) I can't imagine the difference in the whole Canada.
Try UCLI3, it might work better for you. Really though, there isn't much harm in trying them, since switching is pretty painless.

What network are you using UCLI3 on? I just switched from Rogers to Telus and I'm wondering if I should flash a different radio, but I can't seem to locate a Telus radio for JB/CM10. I've found a few links but they're all dead, including the TeamChopsticks one.

I'm having great results with RUXLF3 here in London. I get around 30-36 mbps download and 10-12 upload depending on where in the city I am.

I'm running stock Rogers ICS RUXLF3. Is there really any performance improvements by using any of the other radios? I noticed some people mentioning that the AT&T or Bell radios worked on Rogers - what is the purpose behind flashing another carrier's radio, is there actually an improvement?
I've switched from UCLF6 to UCLI3 but I still get horrible battery performance while in LTE...I've been using CpuSpy to check if the phone is going to deep sleep when not being used, and it is. I get 15-20% drop in battery within 2 hours when phone has an LTE signal. I live in the GTA in Ontario, I get full LTE signal so the phone shouldn't be boosting the amplifier to get a better signal.

I have the AT&T version of the S2 but I am presently in Ghana West Africa and will be here for at least another 6 months...in some places there is 4G I would love to know more about adjusting my radio/ modem...any advice?.....I am using Vodafone as my carrier I am running stock everything until I learn more about ICS or Jellybean
Hi, sorry I didn't notice your question until today. I believe when I posted that I was still running cm9.1. Since that I've been trying a few different jellybean Roms, since learning that they are compatible work ics radios.
They seemed ok at first. On RUXLF3 I've tried liquid smooth rc9 and sky jellybean. They both seemed to work ok at first. Great speed on the data. After a while I kept having no call audio and sometimes missing calls. Trying out UCLI3 on cm10. The data seems way slower, but if it's more reliable that's more important to me.
What is anyone else finding? It may have nothing to do with the radio too, I'm trying to figure it out.

I have been using the latest UCLK4 since yesterday and so far it seems a bit better, especially signal strength. I did some speed tests but they were inconclusive.

That's pretty awesome! Now how about for actual phone calling? Do you find it pretty reliable? On UCLI3 with Cm10 I'm only getting about 10 mbps download, but the phoning is working reliably. I work in deliveries, so I'm on the phone probably 20-30 times a day, I was having trouble actually making or receiving calls with sporadically on RUXLF3 with two different Roms, so I'm inclined to think the radio may be the cause. It would connect the call, but just have silence on both ends.

I havent had any complaints so far. This radio just came out a few days ago so I havent had many calls.
Ive probably made 5 or 6 calls at about 10 mins each and theyve all been good.

That sounds pretty good. Any chance after a week or so you'd be up for updating how it's working for you? I've just flashed so many Roms and radios in the past week. Flashing restores on the way to a delivery because my phone would stop working and I couldn't call for my next orders, haha. It wasn't fun.
I'm a little hesitant now that something is working, to put another one on it right away, unless people are finding it pretty stable for a little while. Are you up for doing that? Please and thanks.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
Sure man. I'll check in again in about a week.

Awesome information! I've been using RUXLF3 on Official CM10 Stable and found it to be ok, haven't had any issues with voice calls. I am going to try UCLK4 and report back as well.
Cheers!
well guys i couldn't do it...
the speed was awesome but the problem i had appears to be caused by this radio
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35417100#post35417100
was nice to have mid 50Mbps speeds but i had to switch back and i hope the super speeds didn't spoil me and that i don't start thinking 40Mbps is slow now. haha
seems it's not just isolated to me because i saw someone else posted they had the exact same problem happen in the leaked jb thread.
